Your question would better be answered in Ray's section here. And I think you need your firmware to be 562 instead of 587 to be rooted as 587 could not be directly rooted. Also, rooting would not make your phone faster by allowing you to remove bloatware, overclocking CPU and installing custom roms

I confirm. But just the kernel is enough.
1. flash kernel 562
2. root with DoomLord's method
3. flash kernel 587
4. (optional) Install xParts from Play Store
Cheers.

[Q] x8 android

what if your x8 is basic completely new do you still need to root it so that you can install new android versions?
Yes. The only way to install a new android version without rooting it, would be getting the software update from your service provider/manufacturer (if there is any official update available).
Yes you need to root X8 but it is really easy, there are graphical tools to do it so you just plug it in and click root it basically.
Here is a good howto and the one I followed to do it when I first decided to root X8:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/root-sony-ericsson-xperia-x8-with-superoneclick/
Then I would recommend using GingerDX ROM on it which you can get here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188486
Don't forget you need to install Xrecovery to backup and restore roms to your phone and please make sure to backup your original rom before installing/restoring a new rom.
It is totally worth it as another X8 user. Checkout the Xperia Active Launcher too.

yes you need to root your phone first even if you have stock rom 2.1

it's cool!

[Q] is it required to unlock bootloader to flash many types of kernels??

iam using xperia X10S v8.2 rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516960
there is rom installation setup for unlocked and locked bootloaders.. mine is locked bootloader.. i saw many types of custom kernels ..i want to kno to change kernels require unlocked bootloader?
got few bugs.. i tink it may b som kernel related issues.so need expert advice.
som of the bugs iam having is already present in those posts but saw no solution to it. i had som suggestions regarding the bugs wich i like to discuss with developers here..
Absolutely. It's recommended to unlock the bootloader before flashing custom kernel/rom just to be safe.. those bugs may be present if you had locked bootloader and that could potentially brick your phone..
What kind of bugs?

yes .. !

Moving to Q&A
mine is locked bootloader... using custom doomkernel.. actualy wat i did is there is old august 2011 post on how to root xperia x10i.. i followed the procedure ( downgrade kernel and upgrade kernel) and thus rooted.. rebooted into 0.3 xrecovery wiped data and installed custom X10S os zip along with addons.. X10S v8.2 is nw iam using in my phne..
i told u abt the bootloader bcos i felt to many stuckups and almost lags during scrolling so thot of overclocked kernel.to increase performance.. i tried to install different kernel and got error..and dats how i noticed abt the bootloader..
my question is wen rooting is done a custom kernel is geting installed rite??? that enabled xrecovery??? and after doin that for again using another kernel unlocked bootloader is required..am i rite???
during X10S installation i saw wifi modules for custom kernel.wen tried to install it gav errors.. so my custom kernel is based on stock kernel that dont require extra wifi modules????
the bugs curently iam having is nonresponsivenes durn browsing in photo galery..somtimes- (usually occurs if der is a big list of pics)
then music player crashes leading to battery pullout and restart....(solved by using 3rd party player)
main bug is when new app is installed, the app icon is not shown in app drawer..
(this bug is posted in that thread but saw no solution) i had missing 6 to 7 app icons.. ( to access them i hav to alter app sort out order option like alphabetical, recently installed, last viewed...lik dat its somtimes views missing icons)
ringtone bug: normaly digital phone ringtone used to repeat wen call comes but nw in my phone it rings one round and stops, its not repeating again..
remaining bugs r almost avoidable..
Those problem might occur because u still had a locked bootloader.. not many people today keeping their bootloader locked, for an obvious reason.. As many custom kernel and rom doesn't fully support locked bootloader..
I've been playing with my friend's Xperia arc.. unlocked their bootloader then installed and tests many custom kernel and rom, never run to a single problem..
So unlocking the bootloader might solve most of your problems

Custom ROM, Official JB ROM is not released for 2011 Xperia phones. Moreover, ICS is damn too slow and hence wanted to try out Super Jelly Bean. Don't know what should be the exact sequence of events.
Appreciate any help!
No ROMs I could update

And if you all believe I did not search the forum, I downloaded almost 5-6 custom ROMs, kernels and flashed them but the phone doesn't just boot up.
ICS 4.0.4 did not allow for rooting hence went for 4.0.3 and rooted. Since, last 2 days, I flashed my ray more than 10 time with no success.
No Jelly Bean ROM I could find which would make it workable. Hence, settling for 4.0.3
Thanks.

Hello. How come you didn't get an answer yet? To flash any custom rom all you have to do is to unlock bootloader. Just google the phase "Unlocking the boot loader" and the first link will lead you to the official website with all the instructions (I can't post links since I'm new here). The only problem is that your warranty will be void (if it is a problem). Some roms can be flashed without unlocking, but Super Jelly Bean is not one of them (as far as I know).

Actually before I used SJB 7 for my ROM on my Ray.. I used ICS 4.0.4 Stock ROM from SONY, but ICS stock ROM too laggy.. So I decide to change to custom ROM and I use SJB with fusion kernel 5.4 and it works fine... ICS 4.0.4 can root.. just follow instruction on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2135918

Hi, maybe am late or maybe not, anyway
I recommend using test point method to unlock your bootloader so you don't lose your DRM data. Proceed with caution do not attempt this if you don't know what you are doing,** I take NO responsibility if something happen to your phone, you are doing this at your own risk.**
here is the links: www[DOT]androidflip[DOT]com/unlock-xperia-phones-bootloader-without-losing-drm-data-track-id-working/
sorry am a new user i can't post links replace [DOT] by .
And also i recommend using Super Jelly Bean 8.0 as its a great ROM very smooth and with nearly no issue.
hit thanks button if this help.

Thanks everyone. With so many help options provided by you fellas, I could flash custom roms. After trying virtually everything, I've settled with SJB 8.
Thanks,
Jitendra
Tried various ROMs and I must say this forum is very helpful.
Not sure how do I close the thread, incase there is any need for it.

Xperia TIPO kernel upgrade questions

Hey guys,
I have the xperia tipo with the Free Xperia Project tapioca FXP 246 and i want to know if there is a newer Kernel for my device, i'm no expert but i've flashed many phones, some samsungs,2 or 3 xperias and an LG...so i can handle some tools...
I Don't want to overclock my Tipo, i want to know if there is a way to avoid the heavy lag, FXP is stable for my, but it lags a lot sometimes, like when you want to answer a call and it hangs a lil' bit...
Some data:
Kernel
3.0.8 FXP - g22c38de5
baseband version (unknown)
android 4.1.2
cyanogen mod version: 10-20131127 unofficial tapioca ss
Also i use CleanMaster and move some apps to the SD.... Xperia Tipo doesn't have much problems with the app storage, i have a lot of free space, but it's not as fast as i need it...
And finally, is there another good app for the managing calls?...
(Sorry if my grammar isn't good enough, i'm Uruguayan)
Cheers,
And may your crotch find its way to a vagina.

Currently there is only 4.0,4.1.2 and 4.4 rom for Xperia J
If you want a 4.2.2+ rom, there is only one 4.4 rom,You may want to know that it's still in alpha version, laggy and camera not working

Sorry for late reply,
I suggest you to use PA rom made by lozohcum,it's base on cm10
PA ROM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2326477
As you tried a few custom rom,you may notice that the screen won't light up when someone dial-in, you need to press the lockscreen button twice in order to pick up the phone.
also, the illumination bar isn't working normally in cm10,you can try it first and you can disable it from setting page after you flash the rom.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You might want to use walkman to work on your phone,I am using this,
Download : http://d-h.st/HOJ
Original link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43100933&postcount=229
Since album and movie app update a lot, google yourself "album for 4.1.2" and "movie for 4.1.2"
It's better for you to use CM10 or stock JB since the CM11 is still buggy
If you fell your phone is laggy, use vengance kernel for the stock JB 4.1.2
Here is the list of tweaks, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1947926
It works for all phone.
Hopes it help you!
