Hi,
to install CWM Recovery and root the tab, you can follow these instructions (point A) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722745
Then if you want to install a custom rom, follow these instruction (this is for CyanogenMod 10.1 but I think it is the same way to install other roms) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052290

Are you purchasing new ? Or are getting this second hand ? The only reason I ask is because 4.2.1 is not the "stock" software at this time.
Mine came stock with 4.0.4, and I have read that they are now shipping with 4.1.1 installed
The only 4.2.1 version currently out is the custom CyanogenMod 10.1 ROM.
May just be a typo on your original post - but figured I would ask just in case

yep your right its 4.1.many thanks for all your imput everyone very greatfull
Change the title of your thread to reflect your question. This will help others in your situation to quickly find and learn from your post, in turn hopefully preventing more 'how do I root/flash' threads.

First of all, let me just say I`ve been admiring the work of the whole comunity for a long time. I am very glad to be a part of it at last.
Now, I`ve been dealing with android phones for about one year, in which I`ve learned a lot with my Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000B. A huge part of that process involved failing and trying to fix what I had messed up and one thing that really helped me was that I always had a "full recover" stock Gingerbread rom to flash in case I messed up real bad so all I ever had to do was to reboot my phone in download mode and flash that recovery rom so I could start over.
I just got my hands on a Galaxy Tab 2 7" (GT-P3110) and I am eager to flash a custom rom into it, but I would be much more confortable in doing so if I had a full recover stock rom to rely on in case anything goes bad, just like I`m able to do with my i9000B.
So please, could anyone tell me where I can find such rom? I know the P3100 and the P3110 are quite similar, but I`m not sure I can flash the same rom on both.
Thanks in advance for all the help and please forgive me for any mistakes I might have made writting this, since english isn`t my native language.
You can get the latest stock ROM from Sam mobile.
Just make a full backup if your existing rom first then you can always revert back to that.
I tried all the popular custom roms and stuck with the paranoid version. Its quick and I have had no problems with that one at all.
Best of luck
Thanks a lot!
Is this the one you are talking about? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915065
By the way, I was looking around and found this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1876482
It seems to be about an official Samsung Jelly Bean ROM which has leaked for indian P3100 owners. Can you please tell me if I can install this one on my P3110? I`m afraid to do anything wrong because these are different models and also because my tablet was purchased in Brazil instead of India.
Thanks and sorry for the noob questions!

Please review these links for your initial answers these links are in the Galaxy Tab 7.7 General thread section. Searching these threads can be very helpful before you do changes to your Tab. You can then ask very specific questions and should get lots of help. Lots of the people who post to these threads provide superb help if you show and can explain what you did or want to do after a little research on your part. Hope this helps you some.

Hi, I am fairly new to this forum and did the read the noobie section first, so I hope I am abiding by any rules.
Firstly, I have a Samsung Ace Plus S7500 on EE Network running gingerbread. I am fairly good with computers and have had experience in some basic things so I should be able to hold my own with the lingo.
Basically, I want to root my phone and put Jellybean with 'Softkeyz' as my O/S, however I read that a lot of ROM's are faulty or neglect aspects of the phones features, is there a very basic simple O/S that I can have? Perhaps even staying on GB like I am but just adding superuser abilities.
Please help me someone! I can supply more information if needed.. Thanks in advance!

CM 10.0 is Jellybean 4.1.2 & CM 10.1 is Jellybean 4.2.2
Gapps is a package that contains Play Store and other apps required for Rom. You must flash Gapps after flashing Rom.
Don't just say thanks Hit thanks.
I have a galaxy note 2 (SPRINT)
My details are
SPH-L900 GALAXY NOTE 2 (SPRINT)
Android version 4.3.1
cyanogenmod version 10.2-20131214 snapshot
kernal version 3.0.64-CMg9d16c8a
I am simply trying to learn where to go from here. I tried getting a new rom from room manager premium but it always says download error. I was trying to get 10.2 rc2 stable. But none of the other work either. I think I might need a new kernal but am lost on which one is right for me. Any help is appreciated. So basically I'll take the Eli5
Approach and go from there. How to get the right roms for me, kernels etc.? Thanks guys
Hi!
Easy, here's the forum section for your device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-sprint
Now you need to go through the development section, and original development section. Read about the ROMs and kernels in the opening posts. See what appeals to you...and flash away!
Do a nandroid backup in recovery first...in case you need to restore.
And read the flashing instructions very carefully.
Good luck!! ?
Hello everyone,
I'm new to this platform and to be honest a bit overwhelmed. Apologize if this thread is in the wrong section.
I should also mention that I'm not too familiar with technical points.
I own an old Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (P5110) which claims its Android version 4.2.2 is still the most recent one for this device.
So I'm looking for a way to update to a newer versuon, at least Android 6.
My first question is which Android version you suggest?
Second one, how exactly do I do this (is there a step by step tutorial)?
Third one what are the risks? I read something about data loss and completely broken devices?
Thank you in advance.

Mate, I'm on the same boat. Same tablet, also overwhelmed The only response to your post points to some custom ROM page but the instructions are not detailed. I thought I had to throw my tablet but it seems like it still has some life to breath if I can get it a newer ROM (many apps are not supported anymore with Android 4.2).
I think the first thing to do is root the device but where to start? I'd prefer using linux with adb, etc.
There is a lot of stuff here. Is there anyone that has taken the time to write a detailed step by step guide somewhere?
BTW, my intention is not only to revive the device but to ditch all Google crap apps. In an ideal world, I would have installed a ROM from /e/ Foundation, but they do not support the device so I guess my next best bet is some custom ROM that uses LineageOS?
Hi,
First you need to root your device and install TWRP recovery:
More info here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...final-root-single-step-twrp-recovery-t3404779
It's an old thread but you'll get the idea.
See this one as well:
https://www.getdroidtips.com/twrp-recovery-samsung-galaxy-tab-2/
You'll need to find the correct version for your model otherwise you'll and up with a nice paperweight.
After this, you'll be able to back up your current ROM and install new ones. Unfortunately, I have a different model of Tab 2 that has no available custom ROM's so I can't say which ROM is better than other. I would read more in the link provided for slim roms.
To get rid of the installed bloatware and even Google apps I used SD Maid. See my thread below with what's left on my tablet (Disclaimer: it's a barebone setup and not all things work so I don't advise going that deep unless you're willing to take the risk of having a bricked tablet. You were warned!):
