[Q] HELP WITH INSTALLING CUSTOM ROMs!!!!

ok...first of all i am a complete newbie at this rooting and installing custom ROMs...
i rooted my galaxy fit last week and installed stuff like Link2SD,ROM Manager,RAM Manager,SD Booster and stuff...but all this is talking up a lot of my RAM and my phone memory is almost full with around 20-25 mb left...
1...so will installing a custom ROM increase my phone memory and my RAM??i have a 32 gb class 4 SD card...so i can partition 4-6gb out of it...no problem
2...i went through a lot of tutorials and forums regarding using SD card as phone memory(partitioning it)...but couldnt understand anything...so could someone please explain to me properly how to do it??
3...and finally how to install a custom ROM...i do not have internet on my phone+no wifi on my computer...so i cant use Clockwork Recovery on my ROM manager...so whatever i have to do i have to do it through my PC USB port...so a tutorial on that would be highly useful...
4...lastly i cannot decide on which ROM to use...im a a fix between...

1) get cwm using this link just cwm not cm as its cm7....www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWc9hYEzMlM
2)flash it via odin as shown.
3)now just go to the thread of the stock rom i like cm7 music edition and rc5.5 ....
4)switch off phone press power + home key..
5)u shud hv copied the files by now to your sd..
6)gotO MOUNTS AND Storage clear data clear sysytem clear cache ..come back and wipe data and reset got to chooze sip frm sd ..selectthe file and go back reboot wait for sometym der u go... tada yu just got cm ... u can just follow d steps in video instead of using cm7 file using ne cm u want.....best of luckk

But don't forget to update to gingerbread using Kies. If update via Kies don't work u can find stock rom here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1533380

what if i do this without the upgrade to Gingerbread...as in with the Froyo 2.2 i try installing the custom ROM as it shows in the video??
my kies is saying "connection error" when i click on upgrade firmware...so should i go for the custom ROM in my froyo 2.2??

u need internet connection, cuz when u update via kies its downloading the frimware

You can try to install over Froyo, but some features you can't use (like cam, wifi, bt etc) because customs roms are build in most cases on gingearbread

so i will do this??

1st option::
install the custom ROM on my Froyo 2.2
then add fix for the camera and wifi
will that work??
2nd option::
since Kies is not updating my firmware...i manually update my firmware and then root it and then install the custom ROM
i would really prefer the 1st option if possible...

I don't think it will work the first option, but you can try on your own risk.
Rather this second option would go. You have everything you need here if you want go with the second option.

there is no custom ROM for froyo in galaxy fit, cuz all custom ROM made for fit is based on gingerbread

updated to gingerbread>>installed CWM using odin>>installed CM Music 7.0

boot into cwm and select partition sd card from advanced menu.
Be careful as this will format your SD card.

okay..i partitioned my SD card with 2GB using CWM...but still when i open phone i see 180 mb internal memory...but SD card memory reduced by 2 GB :O

you need to flash the memory hack. check android development section.

1.boot into recovery mode by holding power button+volume up button+volume down button.
2.then wipe data/factory reset ,wipe cache partition.
3.go to advanced menu and wipe delvic cache
4.then go to mounts and storage and select format system
5.now select install zip from sd card.choose zip from sd card.
6.locate and select the rom's zip file.
7.after flashing reboot the phone and enjoy the new experience
THOUGH VERY RARE BUT... If in case you get only 150-160mb ram free after 2 days of usage than pls take backup of imp. things like contacts, apps and simply reflash the rom. And i assure you an awesome performance. And if you can then spare about 10minutes to increase the performance of rom via swap and kernels...all mentioned below in 5th and 6th posts....they are simply toooo easy.

Open seeder app.
Give su rights when prompted. Then tick the following things
~enable Seeder
~suspended rng service when screen off
~extend i/o queue
~start automatically on boot
THEN SET THE PROFILE TO AGGRESSIVE
Now close the app. You are done with seeder....
After this open xposed module and select install/update. Then go to right tab(i.e. of modules) and tick app settings.
Reboot your phone now.
After reboot open viper4android.
It will ask you to install drivers.
Select cortex a8 with neon and reboot.
With this your phone now has ever more better performance and more cool transitions and all plugins are properly installed.

Enable swap and increase ram--an easy way
SO GUYS ASSUMING THAT YOU HAVE JUST 2 MINUTES FREE FOR THE PERFORMANCE OF YOUR PHONE....WE WILL HEAD STRAIGHT TOWARDS THE MAIN THING THAT IS ENABLING SWAP IN BLACKPEARL WITHOUT RAMBLING MUCH..
***PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MUST HAVE INSTALLED BUSYBOX TO ENABLE SWAP.IF YOU HAVEN'T THEN DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL IT FROM THE ABOVE POST.

1.first of all download this app from here
2.put it in your phone and simply install as normal apk.
3.now turn it on and select 98_swap_cache_v300 from the scripts shown below.

simply close the app and roar to show your excitement because with these two simple steps you have increased your ram and made a swap memory in cache partition.NO NEED OF GIVING ANY WEIRD COMMANDS THROUGH TERMINAL EMULATOR TO ACTIVATE IT..
TO VERIFY IF YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY ENABLED SWAP SUPPORT YOU CAN SIMPLY DOWNLOAD THIS APP FROM HERE.

The cache partition is now not used by android system.though our canvas 2 has got 504mb of cache space but out of it,hardly 10 mb is used...so we can create a swap file there without disrupting the android system.
sd card read and write speed is less than the read and write speed of system. THEREFORE SWAP IN CACHE PARTITION IS MUCH FASTER AND EFFICIENT THAN SWAP FILE CREATED IN SD CARD.
there is no use of sd card in this type of swap.HENCE NO MEMORY CARD DEGRADATION.IT DOES NOT AT ALL EFFECT THE LIFE OF YOUR SD CARD.
this is not even disrupted even while unmounting sd card or while connecting phone as usb mass storage.SO FEEL FREE TO UNMOUNT IT.

Hey make 4.2 rom based on canvas 4 rom

The topic says its a 4.1.1 rom and ur benchmark result says its a 4.1.2.... Why is that?

I have simply edited the build.prop to increase the compatibility of some games and apps.
Its is basically 4.1.1 stock b based only.

i installed the rom successfully very nice ui and animation some times i get chinese letter notification otherwise awesome

first of all congrats on your new ROM! great looks.. will download and try out and give feedback soon.. but just some suggestions..
1.Windows Music Player (this one looks really great)
2.Windows Calculator
3.Windows Email
4.Windows Keyboard (you should obviously have windows keyboard in windows style ROM)
5.Windows Notifications (this one looks great too)
and last of all windows style Gallery.. (though it has one major bug.. gets FC every time you press the back button)
please add these features too! i have a totally Windows looking phone.. but will still try out your ROM!
just ask me for any of these things mentioned above.. or if you have them yourself.. just upload them in the next update!

1.Windows Music Player (this one looks really great)
2.Windows Calculator
3.Windows Email
4.Windows Keyboard (you should obviously have windows keyboard in windows style ROM)
5.Windows Notifications (this one looks great too)
and last of all windows style Gallery.. (though it has one major bug.. gets FC every time you press the back button)
please add these features too! i have a totally Windows looking phone.. but will still try out your ROM!
just ask me for any of these things mentioned above.. or if you have them yourself.. just upload them in the next update!

Actually i didn't prefer Windows keyboard etc.. because i thought 4.2 keyboard with swipe feature was better.

Here is a short review first
| HARDWARE |:-: Talking about the Lava Xtron+’s hardware, the tablet boasts a dual core Cortex A9 CPU with each core clocked at 1.5Ghz and a Mali 400 Quad Core GPU.
Well, for the proof of graphics power, see the benchmarks by fonearena.com ,63.9 fps in nenamark, and the most important thing according to me, RK3066 IS THE BEST LAST GEN GAMING CHIPSET BETTER THAN TEGRA 3...I am a true geek and after searching for 20+ hours came to a conclusion that this is the best piece of android till 12-13k,(except Lumia 520 but it is windows)..
| BATTERY | :-:Coming on to battery, When I opened the battery stats page I find that Cell standby had consumed nearly 60% of the battery.WHAT!? Cell standby is the battery used by radio cells for mobile networks. This tablet DOES NOT have cell radio! The engineers working on this tablet didn't even bother to setup the OS properly and instead chose to simply download Android 4.2, flashed it in the tablet and have put it up on sale.
The Flipkart page reports the battery capacity to be 3,700mAh, which is probably wrong since the official specifications page on Lava’s website reports it to be only 3,000mAh. I can't be sure..:silly:

| SCREEN |:-:The front of the Lava Xtron+ holds a 7-inch sharp IPS LCD display having a resolution of 1024 x 600. It’s a bright screen and with a pixel density of 170 PPI, it is pretty sharp too. The best part about the display is that, despite being an LCD screen, it’s not a battery consuming monster. I always found its battery usage to be lower than processes. The screen is prone to scratches though and is highly reflective.
We can enable the biggest advantage of PC gaming in android now, i.e 4xMSAA in deveoper settings, makes gaming experience even better than tegra 3

Before starting i would say that i am not responsible if any guides here bricks your device ( it should not happen at all if u follow all steps properly as the chances of permanent brick of rk3066 is very slim but boot loop is a possibility) I made this thread to collect everything I've done in one place. This should make everything very straightforward and basically most probably n00b-proof.
| ROOTING | :-:
Pre Requisites-Working drivers (if not then no problem), OEM USB Cable, LAVA ETAB XTRON+, 2 windows apps and PATIENCE
{Screen shots of important steps is in the attachements}
(i) For Drivers download and install moborobo

(ii) In tablet go to in Settings >developers options and turn it on and enable USB Debugging & before connecting it to your PC go into the tab's
settings again and click on storage.In it you will find 3 dots in top right hand corner.> USB computer connection >Enable Mass storage
Note: DO "NOT" TURN USB STORAGE "ON".(When Connected to PC)
Note: Remove your external SD card before rooting.
(iii) Connect it to your PC and click on refresh and install/find drivers and it will download and install them..(there might be a security warning
about force install) Now, it may not recognize the model no, IMEI and other things and say that the device is JB7+ but the only thing you
should look for to make sure it is the right device is the total size and usage of internal Memory and NAND Flash..
(iii) Now drivers are securely installed and the tab is connected in the right way (there is no OEM (LAVA) drivers anywhere)
Download the zdm (Chinese software) in the attachments (For Every Step first see the screenshot)
Note:IT MAY INSTALL SOME USELESS SOFTWARE ON UR PC AND TAB , BUT IT CAN BE UNINSTALLED.
(iii)) When it detects the there will be something written like this in the bottom right corner :??ROOT : ONE or something like that (not in screen
shots as the tab is already rooted ) but it must be in green colour.This is the confirmation that the device can be rooted.
(iv) Now click on the Root Button in left hand side
(v) Click twice on green (thingy) first where it says ROOT then again for the confirmation popup (says something else but in green box)
(vi) Rooting Process has begun and the tab will restart (my PC is quite fast so it was almost instantly restarted and the Super SU was flashed it may or may not take 2-3 mins)
Note:IT WILL INSTALL SUPERUSER , WHICH IS OUTDATED BUT BEFORE DOWNLOADING OTHER SUPERUSER APP , USE THE ONE PRE-INSTALLED TO UPDATE SU BINARY.
DEVICE IS ROOTED WOOT! WOOT! you can also check by using Titanium Backup or root checker.

How to fix battery:-:
Get root explorer open system/app and rename phone .apk and telephonesomething.apk to phone.bak and telephonysomething.bak, you are good to go..
Also, you should change the WiFi scanning interval to 500 I.e 5 min as you really just require one scan when connecting to a known network..change the wifi supplicant scan interval to 500 build.prop

There are 2 methods one is tested by me(both are the same recovery created by the famous user "fun" at androtab.info), it works on our tab because when I opened the kernel.img with a hex editor (like Neo Hex Editor) the first line started with "KRNL" so I have a dedicated kernel in the kernel partition and I can just use the generic CWM. You can also follow this procedure just to be sure..make a online nandroid backup find kernel.img and open it up in pc in hex editor..
(A)METHOD TESTED BY ME
(i) Firstly you have to get the arctools apk,either by registering at their forum..

(ii) Click on download and select RK3066 CWM fun androtabinfo 6.0.3.1, there is only one option like that so it may or may not be in order.

(iii) You should also see the log right in the middle of the apps to verify that the flash and push thingy worked correctly with no errors
(iii) Select Reboot to recovery or Turn the tab off and press power button+vol up and the recovery should open
YEAH! YOU NOW HAVE COMPLETE CONTROL OF YOUR TAB
(B)METHOD NOT TESTED BY ME

Ext4 support
Can somebody tell me if ext4 is supported or not, when i try link2 sd it says not supported but I am pretty sure that the system partition itself is Ext 4, (I'm the one who made the guide)

Try ext3. It will be supported.

Well, I have tried it there are some problem in link2sd, but according to an nandroid the system and data are ext4 , I have set up everything in ext2 and would hate to do it all over again, is there a way to verify support of ext 3 or 4 acc to wiki, kernel above 2.6 support ext4 and the kernel here is 3.0... One more ting, when I tilt the tab, I think that something heavy is moving around inside slightly, probably battery should I ask for a replacement? I have 4-5 days remaining I bought from flipkart, I do have a complete SD and nandroid backup..
EDIT: in d/tracing events ext4 there is a file called enable and the value inside is zero should I change it to 1
I think I found out the culprit, the first partiton that I tried was ext2 so link2d created a script for that..now, when I try to use ext3 or 4 ..it still tries to use that same script..so I willl delete the script then try again...

Successfully Rooted..! Sorry for the delay..!

Alright I know this is a stupid question but..Does it continue to scan when it is connected to a WiFi network..I have also disabled the network norification and enable WiFi optimization...and thanks for the tip..ideally you should only turn scanning on when you want to connect

bro i have installed riley rom for lava xtron + tab but now i came to know that wi fi hotspot is a major bug for this rom and the rom is actually the copy of stock rom so i want to flash the stock rom again but cant ,,, so plz help me i have the stock rom zip file , now what to do ?/

Well you are familiar with cwm or do you even have it installed, if you do then just go to install zip from sd card and select the zip file...secondly if you have a cwm nandroid backup (recommended) just go to backup and restore select resotre or restore from externel sd and then select the date of the required backup file then click restore..If you do have a cwm nandroid backup then it MUST work...if you don't even have the recovery then, ist step is to install it through THE guide then, try to do the ist (not recommended) option...

hey i hv got a bug sstorage bug it is how to change my storage default to sdcard
pls help or how to unmount internal as it is too low onspace 400 mb only i cant download apps from playstore any idea??? provide me sdcard fix zip or something or help me nmounting internal storage thru android sdk or terminal emulator and wheneer the apss r moved on sdcard de disappear

I removed internal storage to make sdcard as the default path, but can still be used as a storage for apps.

SD card bug
I know sir u HV removed internal storage but apps are being installed in system storage dat is internal storage I suppose DAT apps shld be installed on SD card like
Cus out of 4 gigs 2 gigs r occupied by system 2 gigs for apps wtf?? Internal Storage :/
Can't access the internal storage through any explorer, Can anyone help. ??

Since no one replies to my help thread regarding CM 12.1 and Lenovo A536 dual-sim that uses MTK6582M, I'll put it here: no SIM is detected by the device, even though it's inserted. Tried both slots, no bueno. Tried SIM on other phones, it works.
It might be CM 12.1 is not designed for Philippine users since it's either the radio (because 'Baseband version' is "Unknown") or the ROM itself is USSD locked. IMEI test shows nothing at all as well.
Network and SIM I use is Globe Telecoms.

Nevermind, I fixed my problem by going into root/data and deleting the 'nvram' folder while the SIM is inserted and doing a normal reboot. Works perfectly, USSD is identified, IMEI numbers show up and Baseband is now recognized.

So, like before...
This ROM is from my #phone, it was #modded by me and for now everything is working fine.
My version still #Kitkat #B370 but very diferent from Stock #ROM.
Please read all to understand and see what you need to do and how to do it!
The best things in this version is the data partition was increse from 2GB to 4GB and if you have a ext4 partition in your external sd card it will install the all apps there automatically!!!
Advantage of this? You will have a huge store space for the apps!!! And the "#low #storage #space" advise, you will never gonna see it!
If you don´t have it, it will work like default ROM.
To create a primary #ext4 partition in sd card with the size you want, you can use mini partition tool (for windows OS ).

This video shows how this ROM works with a external ext4 partition in sd card what means that all apps go to sd card and let internal storage free, the example shows how to create a 8GB partition but is to big...6GB i think will do the job:

Or create the partition and flash this ROM!
It have Rashr from #XDA, it is a app that easly can change/flash your recovery and do some other things.
When you flash this ROM it will create in your sd card a folder called recoverys, inside you will find #TWRP ( modde by me to ) and the default recovery.
How to use it? Open #Rashr, give root permissions, select recovery, search in explorer for sdcard1, open recoverys folder choose the one you want and flash and flash it! Is that simple.

My device is working properly with out any problem so far, some times bugs only be noticed with use and i will update this post with the ROM fixed.
Install it by your own free will, I am not responsible for any damage that may appear in the device.
Lets start!
If is your first time in this page start by unlocking your bootloader, if is already unlocked skipe this step:
STEP1: To Unlock the #bootloader, first try this site, but if you don´t have you need to create a account ( free ):

Insert your data like this example for U10:

U10-G6, huawei G6-U10, etc..., DON´T WORK! Insert it like image shows.

Be sure from the data you are inserting...
Now, with the code, use G6SKnife to install the drivers for Huawei, option ( d ) than turn off the phone, press volume - and power at same time, it will boot in bootloader mode, plug the usb cable, wait if is installing the phone, use G6SKinife again and use option 18, read what is in screen. If was done right the phone will reboot with factory reset and bootloader unlocked.
Step 2: You need B118 ROM #Firmware or a new one than B118 ( B119, B120, etc ) because old versions don´t let to install TWRP...
So lets flash B118:

Extract the dload folder to PC desktop, paste in external sd card and with the phone OFF, press the volume KEYS and power at same time, hold it, and release power on boot, if don´t turn ON release only power, than volume keys when flash starts.
This video shows the flash from B118 than to Huawei_Ascend_B370_LTE_BB ROM but we gonna do it a litle easy, OK?

STEP3: Install TWRP but ! you need ! this version, or your flash will fail!!!...

Boot in bootloader ( must say unlocked in red ). Do you remeber how to do it? Turn off the phone, press vol - and power at same time! Plug the usb cable and execute the file you download!
It will reboot.
STEP4: The ROM!
Download the ROM:

Copy to sd card, DON´T UNPLUG THE USB CABLE, why?
Power off the phone, it will boot in TWRP!!!
Now go to install and flash the ROM!
READ ALL WHAT IS WRITE IN THE END OFF FLASH!!!
It will say to GO BACK TO TWRP MAIN MENU -> REBOOT -> ! RECOVERY!!!!!!!
You will go to FACTORY #RECOVERY!
Do a factory RESET!!!
I advise to use a cat10 extreme sd card - normally used for 4k movies and go to settings -> #STORAGE and change main storage to ->SD card.
Done!!!!

This ROM was edited to vodafone pt but can be changed to your provider.
When you flash it, if you are not from Portuguese Vodafone it will show a bootanimation that say " Change Cust after settings than do a factory reset ".
This is how to fix it with Root Browser, that you can find in ROM, go to folder /DATA and seek the custom.bin file, open it as a text file, you will see something such as example zt/rt, now we left the folder /DATA and go to the folder /CUST , we open it and we will find a folder with the name vodafone, we will change the name of it to the first name that we saw in custom.bin in our example will is zt, use small font, now we entered the zt folder and we will find another folder that his name is pt, let's switch to the second name of our exemple which will be rt, use small font!
Go back and exit the app, do a factory reset. Done!
The ROM images is the same than tutorial bellow!

On video you can see one of the advantages of external partition, factory reset or flash don´t delete the apps you have it in phone before, it will be installed in first boot! Some times it will take longer if you had to many apps.
The app on video is STORAGE SPACE, was in external partition like you will see on video, and was installed in flash!

I have been searching for a custom rom with repartitioned app storage for months. Trying it now

EDIT: There is one issue. Obb files or Game data are using phone storage instead of app storage. How do I fix this so that those files count as app data and don't cover my phone storage?

The rom works fine. I have one Problem. When i restart my phone or update any aps the arrangement of the apps are in basic settings and my created folders are deletet.
What can i do?

i dont know a fix. but there is another way: Use another launcher, for example Nova Launcher.

I just flashed this ROM and looks like it works perfectly!! I will check it for some days and report any possible bug.

It would be nice resizing data partition and update firmware with a good ROM, but it seems that for U10 there is nothing...
