[Q] G2x Gets Hot - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hi guys,
I new to this, so don't be mean. I installed MokeeOS-R.282 01/08/2013 and it looks and feels great but my phone started to get hot. I put on the Trinity ELP which i had on my previous Rom (HFP 2.4.2) and that runs very good, but the mokee looks promising. Can anyone tell me what i need to do to sort out the heating problem?
thanks.

Try undervolting or lower your CPU speed. Could just be your phone not working well with the kernel.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk 2

Ok I will give it a try, also can you tell me what's the best known kernel for that rom?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app

Try different kernels and find out which is the best for your phone. HFP 2.4 didn't work very well for me with its base faux kernel, but trinity ELP made it very smooth and stable for me. I still don't know why, but different G2X's have varying results with different kernels. Harsh kernel has also worked very well for me, btw.

Favorite ROMS and kernels

Just curious about what ROMS and kernels people have liked best so far.

Right now I am devoted to using the Das_BAMF series of ROMs as well as the kernel by Adrynalyne. I find it works very well for what I need.
I like debloated stock personally, using my own kernel.

me too. staying with this until CM7 comes out.
I'll definitely be switching to cyanogenmod when it is complete, much prefer it to anything else.
Das_BAMF, perfect for me so far.
Das BAMF as well with the 1.76ghz kernel. It's a beast.
boLTEd 0.3. Drods 1.8 kernel running like a champ.

Virusrom, testing out several kernals using adrynalyne 2.0 ATM. Liking it. Better battery life than running OC'd all the time. Bolts still quick at 768mhz. Mo Batry!
Tbolt - VirusRom_rc1b2-drod1.8ghz
Das bamf with the newest kernel 1228 on CPU perfect light OC.
Tbolt seems even more snappy, battery seems to be better also with smartass CPU setting.
My first Android my first ROM and kernel and I could not be happier.
Ive been rocking Virus Rom also for like a week. Extremely solid rom with Adrenalines 2.0 kernel.

Running boLTEd .35 and the 1.8 kernel, drod is a solid dev. I was with him on the dx. And will stick with him on the thunderbolt. If you want speed and stability drod and b16 is where it will likely be.

Amen to that.
1.3.2 with the 1.2ghz smartass kernel is a dream.
Perfect storm and drods 1.5 kernel. I got liquid sense on the sdcard but Havnt tried it. I'm probably the only person who likes recent apps in the pulldown lol. Kinda limits my Rom choices.

ok, ya i have tried most of the roms and i really like bamfs rom, i have tried the 1.8 ghz kernel and 1.2 right now. i'm just interchanging the kernels with roms right now to find a good combo of speed and battery, but i'm definitely going to get cm7 when its released

Ultimate setup. Post what your setup is on your captivate

Hey guys I just wanted to start a thread where people can post their setup including rom kernel modem or anything else that seems fit. This does not mean that any are the best but it may give other people cool ideas on how to make theirs better.
Here's mine and its nothing special.
I have cm7 with a kernal that allows me to overclock it to 1.7 (its a beta and is version 12 or something) then I use voltage control to overclock to 1.2 and undervolt. I also just use the stock modem. Some cool apps I use are widgetlocker which allows Widgets on your lock screen and circle launcher.
I am definatly not an expert so sorry for any mistakes.

I also wanted to add in that I do not think mine is the ultimate setup cause I'm sure its no were near it. The title is just there as a subject.

I'm running latest Miui with stock kernel and modem. Overclocked to 1.2Ghz with voltage control. Work has been crazy lately and I've been too lazy to experiment with different modems and kernels
Im on Cog 5. No overclocking, no nothing. Just stock Cog 5.
I am using the gingerbread launcher, though, instead of touchwiz. I prefer its simplicity.
This is the best my phone has ever worked.
Victory rom2.0 here with go launcher ;-) like butter

Currently Apex 10.1 with the KC1 modem and the latest Talon kernel. Runs great.

Well, I just got my Captivate (old version), and I'm loving it!!
I've switched ROM's a lot, but now I'm on Dlev 4.2 - Talon kernel.
I'm pretty sure this is overclocked, given the Quadrant scores. Battery life is pretty good - a little more than a day with regular use (games, browsing, talking, texting).
So if I went to miui would I have to reflash my v12 kernel that you other guys have to? I like the way miui looks but I wish it had touchwiz

Smoothest basic ROM?

My dad just bought the wind mobile version of this phone. What is a smooth basic ROM you guys would recommend for him? he doesn't need anything fancy

I like weapon but you could always start with the basic rooted stock rom and go from there.
I suggest eaglebloods latest rom, which can be found in the development section of the g2x. It is extremely smooth and stable. I would also use faux123 4.6 kernel with that rom.

Must try Tsugi. It is a pretty basic rom but is blazing fast and reliable. It has never crashed on me as long as I have been running it. Can't say enough good things about it.

I've heard great things about Tsugi! So +1. I've tried Weapons, wasn't my cup of tea. Froze quite alot in the early builds.

Really? This poor horse...
I use Weapon 3 which is based on stock Android 2.3.3 with Faux123-0.1.3 recompiled kernel. It has very good battery life, is fast, and very stable.
Galnet MIUI, it really is impressive
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
After trying both Tsugi and Weapon, I personally prefer Tsugi. It seems to work slightly better for me, and I overall seem to have fewer issues. The LG Camera also seems to work slightly better on it although I can't point to any definitive area, other than the fact it has a panorama mode (which only sort of works).
Weapon is great if you want to run Touchwiz, which I find makes more sense to people who don't know what they're doing. Another big deal is that Tsugi doesn't have the shutdown issue where when the phone runs out of battery instead of turning off the screen just goes black and drains the battery more. This may or may not cause damage to the battery, but it's not worth the risk.
Just my two cents
i would say eagle
Jboxer's 2.3.4 LG Colorized is what I settled on after trying pretty much every current ROM.

I would say leave it alone. usually the one originally on there is the safest and most stable. I have installed the latest nightly build 201 from cm. Its for me and I know what to do if something is wrong.
My wife's android phones I always kept at stock for her so whenever there is an issue its easier to fix.
Just stay stock bud and your dad should be fine ok?
Miui.us is Da best so far with trinity kernel, axura, then tsugi? There's a mess of them? Lol

[Q] recommended kernel ?

HI guys
Im currently using MIUI US Rom ver 2.4.6 with stock kernel. can anyone recommend me a fast and stable kernel compatible with this rom?
Will these do the trick?
I've heard only good things about Trinity, but I stopped using MIUI a long time ago, it's pretty outdated at this point.
I personally use the Trinity kernel when running MIUI but some prefer Faux123's kernel. It tends to be you choose which ever one is the most stable for your phone as not all are created equal. The other thing to note is that if you flash the kernel straight from morfic it will cause you to loose the ability to set themes and keep them after a reboot.
I have the modified Trinity Kernels that you can get to try and they both are flashable from CWM and have the theme fixes.
They are both found here >>Trinity Kernel<<
If you want to know the difference between them go to morfics thread and the explanations are there.
thanks for the elaborated explanation and the Trinity builds. but what stability lose am i to experience? i flashed 4 hours ago ELP build and i have no problems with the themes.
You aren't necessarily going to experience stability issues. It is just a possibility you could. If you aren't then you will be fine.
I do suggest that you get setcpu so you can set the clock speed to the 1.1ghz that the kernel wants to default to but the os pushes it down to 1.0. But it is not a nessecity.

The Destroyer
I would use The Destroyer16. I've seen many MIUI G2x's run stable and decent battery life (with a little UV) with this kernel. Plus 1.6ghz max will rip benchmark scores like crazy. Only good for gb 2.3.7 MIUI IMO. You can find it in the huge Trinity thread under g2x development.

dont do this unless you know what your doing. it works on any CM7 based rom, but its very unstable and really only used for testing and benchmarking.

Poll: Trinity vs Faux

Just gauging how many of you are still using Trinity kernel considering it hasn't been updated in months, while Faux is continually working on his kernel.
I've noticed freezing/overheating issues with Faux but I like that it's updated often enough.
Edit: By no means am I putting down Trinity kernel, just interested in the numbers

Trinity has been solid for a long time. My phone works much better with it. No need to update for the sake of updating.
Harsh is far better for.both of my g2x

On GB:
I prefer Trinity. It's been stable for some time and I can run my G2x for 35+ hours on moderate use. I've used Faux, but somehow I came back to Trinity.
On ICS:
I used Harsh when I was on ICS. But my experience in ICS generally has not been good (LG/NVidia not releasing drivers). So I came back to GB.
I prefer Faux
Trinity works better on my g2x. I think faux is a bit more aggressive, and my phone just acts better with the more conservative kernel.

On stock based 2.3.4 I like the stock kernel or Faux 014b2. On CM7 based I prefer TrinityELP for stability and batt life. I do find since Faux's 050 builds battery seems as good as ELP, and Faux has seemed to make scrolling super smooth. But Faux is still just a bit unstable on my phone. I am currently using the djvoleur adaptation of Harsh for CM7 roms. Its good too. I've had no probs with flashing between any of these kernels other than LED touch keys cannot be set to off when using Faux or Harsh.
I am a fan of all 3 - really...
Trinity ELP for GB
I tried everything out there and always go back to that. Fast, smooth, and good battery life. Plus it seems to be the only one that my phone's bluetooth can stay connected to my car's stereo. with other kernel (maybe coincidence), the two refuse to connect after a few connect/disconnect cycles.
also, many people say 24+ hr of moderate use. Is that with stock battery?
to me, moderate use = 3-4hr screen on time. 1hr phone call. wifi, BT, 4G, GPS always left on. 50% screen brightness. I typically get 12-18hr with trinity.
Heavy would be 5+hr screen on and more
Trinity gives me sleep of death, faux overheats and freezes I'm using the kernel that came with cm7 without any problems. Though I did get the SOD before I installed the build.prop tweaks
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
I've always been a big fan of morfic's Trinity ELP kernel (dated Feb. 6th, 2012). Unfortunately I don't see this kernel linked on his old site (just the ones dated in 2011).
faux all the way!!!!
