What version of Nexus S do I have? Please help.. - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

good day guys! please help me with my problem.
i have recently bought a used nexus s. i have acquired this phone because i know that it uses the wolfson audio chip and i want to make it a music player by using the voodoo sound app (this app needs root access). my problem is i don't know what version it is hence i can't root it for fear of flashing the wrong kernel and bricking the phone. i'm in the philippines so if the phone was bought here, it must be an i9020 international version. besides, there are no korean apps or characters present. i took a picture of the sticker under the battery and saw texts in korean and then it says SHW-M200K at the end of the first line. i know that this is the code for the korean version. so is it right for me to assume that i have the korean version? but then again in the fourth line of the sticker i saw text that says FCC ID: A3LGTi9020. this is the code for the international version so i'm confused. when i checked the settings, about phone, it showed android version as 4.1.2 and baseband as XXKI1. lately i saw a korean version of the nexus s and the baseband starts with M200..... however, my phone's baseband is XXKI1. i'm really confused please help me.
here's the pic of the sticker under the battery:

Go to settings>about phone
The screenshot you provided shows korean characters but i can't be sure if it's the korean version unless you provide a screenshot of the settings>about phone.

thank you for the reply. here's the screenshot of about phone. only option missing is the System Updates above the screen.

it is the Korean version. M200.
100% sure.

[Q] What the heck is an LG-P999WA?

LG and T-Mobile in all their wisdom have yet unleased another G2X model number upon the world. It is being supported by the LG Update program for rom updates also. Some people reported that TMO was giving this model away at a Chicago trade event and on a Twitter contest. Is the illusive white model? Or is is just the same same we have now with another label slapped on its insides? It would be interesting to know what the actual differences are between the model numbers. I will begin.
LG-P999DW - Original released version that most people have.
LG-P999DWP - One of the units reportedly a refurbished unit. But how does it differ from the LG-P999DWDU?
LG-P999DWDU - Another reportedly refrubished unit. Again, how does it differ, if at all, from the LG-P999DWP refurb units.
LG-P999WA - The new mysterious designation supposedly given out as freebies. Is there any hardware differences between previous models. Why oh why another hardware designation for the same device? Any of you with one of these bad boys/girls (gender neutral device for the PC crowd) let us know if you have discovered any differences between what you have and what we have.
Any other model deisgnators out there for the same hardware we have all come to love, loathe, adore, hate, etc.
Thanks TMO and LG. You gave us something else to talk and ruminate about while we are waiting for you to step up and give us 2.3.6 and then ICS (we love Ice Cream).
Thanks for this. I was wondering which was which the other day buy didn't feel like reading through other threads
how am i supposed to tell which one mine is...

The battery cover tells you nothing. They are all labeled P999, even P990s. The only way to tell is to connect your device to the LG Updater. It will connect to the device and tell you which model number you have. You are okay as long as you don't press the "start update" button.

He didn't mean the actual battery cover, he was saying to look just below where the battery is placed and it shows the id.

That doesn't help either as the "DWP" and "DWDU" units are labeled "DW" on the sticker. The only way to tell for sure is to use the LG Updater to identify the device.

I wasn't aware of this, and yeah I was referring to what was printed under the battery after taking the battery cover off.
So anyway, how can I find out which model I have under the updater tool? I plug it in and it detects it, but doesn't tell me which model I have anywhere. Should I be looking somewhere specific?
-edit-
Nevermind, I guess you need to be running stock or OTA firmware for the updater tool to tell you what model you have. I tried with Cyanogenmod flashed and it told me there was an update but it wouldn't say what I have

Here is a screengrab with the area circled in green where the updater tells you what phone model you have. This appears after the updater connects with the phone and checks the current software version.
Yeah I know, did you over look my edit somehow?
sorry to bump such an old thread, but i got my mits on one of these 999wa phones and was wondering if anyone actually figured out what/why the white case and model #?
was it really an uber rare prototype as engadget put it? whats the mystery behind it?

GDR2 Bugs Fixed

I had recently updated my HTC 8X (Unlocked) to GDR2. But I got the freezing issue when I played music.
I got a new update today which has apparently fixed the bug.
Too bad I have the bell version and will probably not see the update for a long time

I hear they took it out on pretty well every model.
TBH, microsofts update model sucks. It still goes through the carriers and some models will never receive updates (or never receive them until months after other models/carriers... Like Portico for Bell, getting it months after rogers.)
Guys, Data Sense is part of GDR2 but it depends on your carrier if you see it on your phone. Thats been said about 100k times. Thats what Microsift wrote in the update description.
AFAIK most european carriers dont suppprt it. =P

So which mythical models support it?
Who is talking about 'models'? Its not about phone models.
It's about your carrier. If your carrier supports it you will see it on your phone with GDR2. If your carrier doesnt you dont see it.
If in doubt ask your carrier.

But can we plz stay on topic? Its about the latest update which came out yesterday. Can somebody plz check the numbers i posted?

Regardless, not one carrier (carrier's "model" i.e. - different carriers versions may have different capabilities) I have heard of included it yet (I think people on wpcentral with unbranded "models" didn't even get it.)
I was under the impression that Microsoft were not going to get strong-armed by carriers, like Bell getting portico months after rogers.
Also, talking about a feature being left out IS talking about the update.
This is about the update AFTER GDR2. I had it for weeks. Still there was another update today. HTC 8Xs had some troubles and this 'after GDR2 update' seems to fix the issues (like the overheating of the sound chip).
Please fin youself a thread about GDR2 not one for updayes to it. And for your information. This is not about 'bullying' - Data Sense like Visual Voice Mail depends on technology employed by the carrier. It is part of the update. And yes i do t know any carrier who uses it. But if you are from Europe i can by now confirm you wont see it. Please ask your carrier about when or if they will deploy Data Sense.
Cheers

Viral phone need to flash stock firmware

My girlfriend bought a S7 off craigslist which she was told was for T-Mobile.
It kinda works but is very slow and she gets these random popups with half naked chicks, and you cannot close them until you click on them it takes you to a webpage that never works and then you can back out of it.
I ran virus software and factory reset multiple times. the virus software will keep the pop ups at bay for about half a day.
As a last resort I am going to reflash back to stock with Odin.
In my search to find the stock firmware looks like the software on it is European or something.
Should I try to flash the USA firmware? What version should i flash?
That's NOT the T-Mobile version, that's the international version. T-Mobile's is the 930T, not F.
Keep in mind that that model will not get wifi calling or VoLTE on T-Mobile, nor access their extended range band (LTE band 12) for voice calling, which could potentially be pretty bad depending on your location. You also have no warranty whatsoever in the US.
Your about device should look like this. Also download "Genuine Galaxy-Phone Info" from the play store. It looks like you got a clone.
Thanks for the replies.
First things first i want to fix the virus issue. Should i just flash back the firmware version it has?

A clone has different hardware, flashing something from Sammobile which is believed to be the correct version could hard brick your device. Flash anything at your own risk.

How do i know its a clone with that app? It says its a Galaxy SM-G930F
Well dude, sorry about your luck. That is definitely a clone aka fake galaxy S7. A real galaxy 7 has 4 gb of ram, not 500mb and definitely not a 32bit Mediatek processor which is why is so slow. Also your device has a modified version of lollipop android, a real one come with marshmallow out the box.
-edit-
The "F" model should have a Xynos 8890 Processor in it, not a Qualcomm like mine.
I even went a step further you you . Here is the firmware page!!! Good luck, your on your own from here.

How to know if the phone is new and never used or not ?

How to know please if my phone is new or not? Knowing that the box was opened and unsealed when I received it?
I installed the application "Phone INFO" but apparently since Android 6.0 it is only possible to know this "counter informations" (Number of times of the USB cable and headphones have been connected) by rooting the device before.
But my Snapdragon-based model is not yet rootable, so it's not possible to get this counter informations via the "Phone INFO" application.
So, how to get this informations otherwise? Or what other application can give me this please?

Not sure, but why did you accepted unsealed box?

Exactly you shouldn't had accepted it.
Take it back to store and get replacement.
You can give a try by calling Samsung and giving them the IMEI number and could figure out if has being activated or not.

I live in France, and I ordered it on Internet at a Ebay UK shop apparently known and serious, which themselves received the product from HK.
Following my question, they sent me this answer:
"All items are brand new, original and unlocked.
Some of the items may not be sealed in Asian market.
The item will be undergone quality assurance process, original box and
Seal may be used as a warranty.
But the answer does not reassure me, and I want to check if the product is really new?
How to contact Samsung please?
Is there any other way to know if the phone has never been used?

It's best to return it, I'm from Asia and i never bought unsealed phone, I've even been to HK and even bought Moto Milestone few years ago and i got it sealed, i even bought an iPhone 5S from Singapore once, i got it sealed pack and i live in India, even in India i always got sealed phone
Sometimes it can't be sealed because some phones are region locked and need to be opened to place a 5 min Phone call to unlock the region lock
Use the app "charge cycle counter" to read how many times the battery has went through a full cycle. It will read the info from a text file on the device that will survive any reset to the device.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.cerebrum.ChargeCycleCounter
I know the screenshot says it only counts since the app was installed, but that's not the case with Samsung phones as the battery stores the info
Thank you all.
The app "charge cycle counter" is not reliable.
It would be a shame to return the phone if it is really new. I want be sure...
Other solutions please?
Shuthefrontdoor is correct, they are opened to remove the region lock then repackaged. You could also check the tires for wear to see if it was driven around...

The SM-G9550 model (HK) already factory unlocked. Why to open the box then ?
What is "Shuthefrontdoor" and "the tires for wear"? I did not understand...
Shuthefront door is the name of the member that replied to the thread, it also could be customs that opens the packages and the check the tires is humor.

Since the latest firmware of Samsung, it needs root to read the Usage Counters, as well as the Original CSC.
It is due to the fact that Samsung has strengthened its security policy. It is NOT the app's mistake.
If you have root, you still can see those info.
Please read the FAQ #01 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49425630&postcount=3

Scammed !! Please help - Samsung S20 region locked

hello,
yesterday i purchased S20 SM-G980F/DS on a local facebook marketplace from what seemed to be a reputable seller based on his FB profile. We met and he showed me the phone and i had forgotton my sim card removal tool so was unable to put the sim in straight away however the phone was booted up and looked good. It was my fault i should have check but after we made the deal i found a pin and put my sims in. One 3 ireland and the other VF ireland. It took ages for the sims to register on the network and call setup and quality was awful, I kept dropping calls.. At this point i was home and attempted to contact the seller as i suspected something was wrong and then realised he blocked me on both Facebook and the phone number was switched off. I contacted Samsung Ireland and they had a quick look and told me the phone is actually panamanian !! and it could be region locked!! I have began trying to change the CSC code using the *#272*IMEI# but the dialler doesn't let me into any menu to select an Irish network. I'm not even sure this is the issue with the phone and i'm hoping that any experts on here may be able to help better than Samsung who were of no help at all. Thanks in advance
