Button prob fix? - Optimus One, P500, V Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have my O1 for 2 years now, unfortunately i pressed my off button and up volune too hard when soft brick my phone about months after buying. Its still functioning if i pressed hard enough. Now its worsening, is there any way I can fix it? I have tools to open it.
Just a thought. Sorry if there is a previous thread as this, but i search already and theres none.

This might help.

Buttons do have the maximum amount of clicks. Thats why they degrade. If you want to fix it (hardware) u need to replace the switch (the one connected at board) which is hard.
There is a mod somewhere that replaces (or use both power and search key) as powerbutton. It wont replace the power button when booting up the phone but atleast turning off the screen using the search key.

But mine degraded just 4 monthaftrr using O1. I pushed the power button too hard as i was panicked that i hard brick my O1(does not enter cwm, just a few character on the uppwr left corner). OT, sorry.
Thats my main prob, i always flash rom, and if i got stuck in bootloop i have to enter cwm manualy (3 button combo). And it took me of average 3 minutes or more as it didnt detect the power button in the combo.
Have to live with that i guess.
Thanks for all the help. .
But i still hope tht i can repair it. :/

Haha, my power buttons is also very bad. When I got stuck on bootloop I replace the battery and quickly put it on(very quickly) and the I press vol. down and home to enter in recovery, that's the difficult part, but at least it's easier than turning it on with our damm power button

Your method works because you are holding the power button. The volume keys have nothing to do with it you don't have to press them.

Power Button Problem

Hello guys, I just want to know is there any way through which I can increase the sensitivity of the power button? My phone is now one year old and I've found that the power button is very annoying. If any new person happens to use my phone, he is to be taught to apply a bit more force to the power button to lock the phone.
Also, long press is difficult! It's very difficult to take screenshots (with CM ROM that has power button screen shot option).
When I long press to take a screenshot, after releasing the button, the phone sleeps and gets locked. It happens several times and to take one screenshot I have to face it almost five times. I think it is because of dust that gets collected below the plastic button, is there any suggestion from you that can make my finger's life easy??? :banghead:
Uhh, and do not suggest opening the phone body and clean it!!!
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
And how does a topic come under 'favourites' section of the xda premium app??? Such a stupid question but I am really not finding a way out!!!
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
Same problem. Isn't much you can do with the power button. It's mechanical so to fix the actual button you would have to open up the phone and fiddle in there. (don't try this if you don't know what you're doing)
I, for one, am using this mod. It works on the rom level, not the phone itself so it needs to be flashed every time you install a new rom (even when it's the same one but different version) and it won't work when the phone is completely shut down, you still have to use the power button.
Oh yeah! I knew that mod but forgot!
Well then, for now I use a screen locking widget... but still to unlock power button is required...
Will have to stay with it only.. :banghead:

Oh, and yeah, that same widget allows to lock the phone by long pressing search button.

I need help!!!!!

I bought a phone called Samsung Captivate from craigslist. The bad thing about that is the power button did not work. I knew it didn't work thinking I could fix it. I took the phone apart to clean the button. I read that a "CRC QD Electronic Cleaner" would help. I used that. It didn't help. I am think that software is the issue. I want to return it to a stock ROM becuase this phone is rooted. In order to do that I need the the power button to work, to enter it into download mode. Ive tried apps to shutdown the phone, Nothing would help. If anyone can help me that would be awesome.

ya use adb or you could always buy those dowload mode micro usb things on ebay
If you want to turn it off just pull the battery. You don't need the power button for download mode. hold both volume buttons and plug in the usb from the computer

There are thankfully multiple ways to get into the recovery and download modes. Definitely get a handle on the ADB command line to, it's the easiest in my opinion.
If you can't fix the button don't sweat it, I've used my cappy for the last 6 months without it. Use ROMs that have a "volume rocker unlock" feature and learn to use the soft buttons to navigate recovery mode.

Power button problems [HTC Explorer]

So, I thought I was the only one affected by this but turns out I'm not. I noticed two other people with this issue in the development forum. I'm creating this thread for discussion and possible solutions and workarounds.
EDIT: So, some people have the opposite problem. Nothing happens when the power button is pressed and two are three clicks are required...looks like there are plenty of problems with the explorer's power button design...
Overview of the issue:
-> On affected phones, pressing the power button registers a second press that was not made.
-> It is inconsistent but get progressively worse, happening more frequently.
Summary of effects:
-> While trying to unlock the phone, the phone's lockscreen turns up for a moment before switching off again as the second press is registered.
The same thing happens while trying to lock but in reverse.
-> Second presses register in the HBOOT menu and in recovery, causing a variety of issues.
-> Power menu options are also affected. The long press opens the power menu but the second press is registered when you let go, which causes the phone to lock.
Some observations:
-> This problem occurs even when using the power key with the back cover removed. It has nothing to do with the power button appearing recessed.
-> The second press is registered when letting go, not when you press the power button.
-> Your choice of ROM doesn't matter. Seems to me that this is clearly a hardware issue.
Solutions and workarounds:
-> Performing a quick tap instead of a regular press seems to help.
-> On CyanogenMod 9 or ROMs based on it, using the option to have the volume buttons wake the device is viable. Downside is that you lose music quick controls.
-> To use the power menu, press and hold till the power menu appears but don't let go. Make your selection with the power button pressed. As mentioned before, the second press is registered when letting go. Don't keep the power pressed too long though.
There are several ways to perform the same actions as the power button menu, depending on your ROM. That works too.
-> For screenshots,
On stock or stock based ROMs, press and hold the power button and then tap the home button. Don't press the power button long enough to open the power menu.
On CM9 based ROMs, press and hold both the power and volume down buttons for 2 seconds.
-> HBOOT:
No real issues here as you usually need only one option
-> Recovery:
Depends on what recovery you are using.
On ClockworkMod 5 based recoveries such as CWM 5.0.2.8 or yannou90's variant, you can use the capacitive keys. The search button performs the same function as the power button. (Also, the home and menu let you move around, and back is, well, back).
On touch based recoveries such as TeamWin Recovery (TWRP), there is no issue.
So, do you guys have a similar issue? Any ideas?
sometimes when i press the power key to light up my phone, it remains locked (the screen doesnt turn on)...
this happens twice...
then when i press the power button the 3rd time..the screen lights up and displays the lock screen. this happens almost everyday.
i dunno if i can say u and i are facing the same prob or not
It's common with HTC phones. It just happens with any trigger(falling, strong pressing and even the unusually high usage of the buttton in recovery).
The only real way to fix it is to send it to service. If they reject because your bootloader is unlocked, well, then consider a Samsung next time.

Um, so, they won't fix it even if you don't claim warranty and you are willing to pay?
Also, why not relock the bootloader?

At least in my country they don't want to. They just told me to go to an unofficial repair shop.
Relocking the bootloader usually doesn't work. They're just lazy and don't want to repair anything, and that pushes them to find excuses.
Here also htc gving poor services..

If any of you guys get it fixed, let us knew how it goes. xpmode says that HTC doesn't like fixing an unlocked phone even if you are willing to pay and have relocked the bootloader
This is a dumb harware fault by htc
Reason is that we have power button under back panel and a plastic piece in shape of a button that presses that button

It does wake the device - I mentioned that in the first post. The quick controls also become annoying. It's only a real problem for the device to wake up if you have disabled the lick screen as there is potential for random touches...
i try my best to use the volume rocker wake button...rarely do i use my power button for waking up my device .... im giving it a rest 24/7
I sent the phone to 2 repair shops, and they refused to repair because of the bootloader(we pay them???) and said it's software, because there's no way to tell if the button is faulty without opening the phone.
What I did was to remove back cover, get a pen with a small point(0,4 or 0,5), locate the pen's point in between the power button, lean the point outside the device and punch the back of the pen with everything I got. Obviously, the button popped off, creating an obvious hardware faulty.
And I was right. I sent it to another(3rd) repair shop and they said hardware, and it was fixed next day. Well, it's a temporary fix, at first day it never double pressed, the second day only one, after a week more frequently but it was far, far better than what it was before repair.
What's the permanent fix? Buy a new device, preferably not HTC.

[Q] Help Disabling Power Button?

My GS3's power button is jammed and i rebinded holding the home button down to turn off the screen. If I move the device or slightly touch the power button it thinks its being held down. I'm running a CM11 nightly, is there anyway i can edit a file and disable the button all together?
Try the xposed module Xposed Additions - you can rebind press/long press of the power button to do nothing.
Alternatively, you could edit the key files directly - check system/usr/keylayout, and open sec_keys.kl with a text editor and put a # in front of the power key line. You might have to comment out the power key line in generic.kl too, then reboot and power button will be totally disabled.

I had this same problem on my gs3 a few months ago. It is a hardware problem, not caused by your rom.
What I did, is I found a guide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867253 ) that walked me through flashing everything back to stock. I then took it to the store, and they hooked me up with a replacement.
The guy at the counter had never seen it before, but it was clear that it was a hardware malfunction, and therefore not my fault.
Maybe you can do the same

I read it some where on this by ThePagel, he smacked his phone button against some hard plastic object and it fixed the button issue. I suggest to wrap your phone with a towel then smack the button against a wood table....do it at your own risk!! and ThePagel can chime in if you like..
