Today my i815 downloaded an update from Verizon. Although the update failed even though I am running stock 3e (with Electron's ICS).
According to the file name sitting in my cache, it updates LP10 to LP11 (RC4).
Anyone knows of this and what could have improved had the update gone through?
I simply extracted the .zip file and updated modem to LP11.

In CWM, if I try to apply in spite of signature failure, I see the following:
assert.failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "SCH-I815" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "SCH-I815"
followed by E:Error in /cache/.......... [name of zip file]
In build.prop on my tab, I see 'ro.product.device=SCH-I815', but for ro.build.product, build.prop indicates 'ro.build.product is obsolete'.
In the log, all that is followed by:
Istallation aborted.
I: Can't partition non-vfat: datamedia
I: Can't partition unsafe device: /dev/block/mmcblklpl
I: Can't format unknown volume: /emmc
Explanation?

Hope thats enough information, any ideas how to solve the problem?
Thankyou in advance
maybe its a corrupt file or something? I'd download that file again and try again if you haven't already. I know sometimes you have to try installing superuser around 3 times for some phones using CWM so maybe you have to do that also?

Tried a few times now even, downloaded gganon's root.zip file (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282011) with no luck. Ill charge up the laptop and try from there just in case my PC is screwing something up.
Ok so im on laptop now tried downloading the various .zip files and tried installing 5 times per zip and still get the problem that is shown in my first post, any other ideas ?
It mentions that if Step E doesn;t work, try step D. If that doesnt work, try the link below and install "AceGingerRoot.zip" instead of “upd_1.zip”, as described in the link...let me know what happens.
http://acetips.wordpress.com/2011/09/29/root-ace-froyo-gingerbread/
or if that doesnt work, try this....

Edit2: Nevermind updated CWM to 5.0.2.6 and install went fine
awesome, glad it worked.
Please reup AceGingerRoot.zip. The one I have found can't root my ace. And all of them are 980kb. But AceGingerRoot.zip that has been posted here is about 1000kb

This file was the key for me- rooting a Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 on 3.2.6- and that after a day or so searching, running, re-running other stuff and wondering WtF was going wr(on)g. I hope an extra endorsement here helps some other android newbie.
The links seem a moving target, but a Google search on the file name eventually found me one that worked.
What a hassle. I've never been accused of being the swiftest pencil in the box, but if anyone's got a quicker way, please post. And thank you, thank you, thank you...
Managed to lose root today. Updated SuperSU and chose to update binary via CWM instead of normal. Didn't work and I've posted about that on its relevant thread here.
As I said in my post there I tried reflashing the update.zip, but got a status 7 error, to which I then tried AceGingerRoot.zip which was apparently successful in changing the binary from v1.27:SUPERSU (0) binary back to the old v2.3.1-ef (0) binary.
The problem is that I've still not got any root access. So the su files are all in the xbin folder, but apparently aren't readable.
TIA for your help/advice.

Did you set you default write disk to usb storage? You can find it on the settings --> storage.
Or the package you downloaded was corrupted due to inconsistent data. Please redownload it again and try iy

yes, for my you have a corrupt file, download again, used different server and try it
You'll got many problem downloading via OTA, better you use offline rom and upgrade manually by Computer.
So...
I meant to install the PAC All-In-One ROM.
Darktitor specified that I had to flash a stock ROM through Odin. After making sure that I could flash a CF-Root DDLF2 instead of my stock XWLF2, I put my phone in Download Mode and flashed DDLF2 through Odin. I went in recovery mode, wiped data and formatted /system. I then tried installing the ROM (P.A.C. All-in-one, as I already specified elsewhere) through the "Install zip from SD card" button, but it displays the following errors: "assert failed: getprop ("ro.product.device") == "galaxysl" | | getprop ("ro.build.product") == "galaxysl"", repeated for GT-I9003 and GT-I9003L (yeah, it IS a Galaxy SL), and E:Error in /sdcard/i9003 blah, blah, blah (the filename of the ROM, obviously).
What should I do now?
EDIT: The signature verification for the update also fails.
MOAR EDIT: Same problem both with Dhiru's Alpha 7 and the LEMON build.
Try not to format the /system before flash.when u format the /system,build.prop was remove and the signature verification will failed.just wipe data/factury reset, wipe cache and then flash the rom./system will be formated automatically during the flash.

I managed to solve the problem on my own, but thank you very much! (I just had to flash XXKPE and DDLF2 before installing PAC.)
Hey guys,

You'll want to follow method #2 of this but only flash the system and boot images. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47156064
