I'm fairly new to the One X, but I have been a long time user and member of these forums for other devices.
I'm curious first as to the difference between original android development and android development?
I'm also curious if a stock/rooted/debloated rogers JB rom available
I am using a fairly stock version of the Asia JB release, but it has a few issues and I miss the swype style keyboard as well
I like viper Rom , its sense based with awesome performance. Do your homework and make sure your device is compatible .

I guess there just isn't a stock Rogers rom floating around yet
Anyone have an answer to the first part of my question?

The distinction between "original" and not is hazy at best. in general "Original Android Development" is deSensed / AOSP stuff while the "Android Development' section is Sense-based (closer to stock), but you can find de-Sensed ROMs in the latter and Sense ROMs in the former so... it's not a "rule" per se.

Just wanted to know people's opinions of the lack of aosp dev support for this phone.
I don't want to take anything away from the Dev's that have ported from other devices but i'd like an AOSP Rom that is developed specifically for the Desire S :/
Yes, there seems to be lack of dev support here compared o all the other HTC devices..
What I would really like is if we could have Android Revolution HD ROMs, and LeeDroid ROMs (there are great ports now from dhd)
But I would prefer support from the devs themselves

Currently there are multiple rom within this single thread in development, I'm hoping that they are all split at done point other wise it will be difficult to follow
Swyped from HTC Desire S using XDA Premium
Not as bad as an absolute lack of support.
The Kyocera Echo doesn't even have a recovery, stock or custom. We had root until 2.3.4 took it away.
Now we have nothing.
Should 2.3.4 be anything to be happy about without root? :|

It's been less than a month since Alpharev released their S-off, and an AOSP take so much more work than just copying a Sense rom and adding your own tweaks. Hydrogen Saga is the most stable AOSP I can find, andthis is also ported.
In time custom AOSP's built from the bottom up will come. I love not having any Sense.

I think it comes down to a quality issue. I never used a Cyanogen rom on the original Desire that didn't have a bug that wasn't already reported on the changelog. Not even a nightly.
Roms for the Desire S at the moment are coming with little Quality Control. We are the testers!
I come from using a nexus one, and before that a g1, so I am used to having vanilla android on my phone or at least having the option to have it. I bought the one S when my phone broke down thinking that the htc sense UI would not be such bad thing. However after a few weeks I still can't seem to get used to it and actually have grown to hate it. I installed a rom that doesn't have most of sense but it still doesn't have the same feel. So getting to my question, why isn't there a rom that is just plain ics without sense. Will this ever be available?
Also kind of off topic, but why was sense ever created? I understand that htc wanted to put a twist on android but wouldn't it be enough to create the apps and widgets? I feel like some of the key features of android are lost and for little gain. What is going to happen when jelly bean rolls out? Will one S owners have to wait more while htc tweaks it to work with sense again? I have gotten really used to the hardware aspects of this phone but I am contemplating switching over to a galaxy nexus just for the benefit of having vanilla android and having more development support.
Have you tried CM9 or Paranoid?

Idk man... I'm new to this phone, but I know my phone is now on Android 4.0.4, and there isn't a single hint of sense ANYWHERE in the ROM. I also had to flash a different kernel so I would be willing to bet its not on the stock kernel

that differen kernel is still based on a heavy "sensed" one by HTC. easily tested by it's multitasking ability or lack thereof. i don't think anybody "de-sensed" it completely yet.
HTC One S via XDA
CM9, AOKP and Parandroid are not sense Based. Ohe kernel is not sense based. a good example is MIUI, there are 2 MIUI builds, one is AOSP based (based on CM9) and the other one is sense Based.
Want proof by your own? flash CM9 or AOKP and flash a sense kernel on top of it and try to boot the phone. you will get a boot loop.
CM9 is the closest you will get to an AOSP pure vainilla rom since is based on it.
You guys on the first page must be pretty challenged... CM9, AOKP, and PARANOID are based off the the CM9 source. They have NOTHING to do with Sense. The only Sense based ROM (not stock ROMs, IE TrickDroid) is one version of MIUI as it has the stock Sense camera and such...
Sense was created because it's what HTC wanted. Why is there TouchWiz, Moto Blur, or anything else like that? It's because the device manufacturers wanted their own version. Thank the dev team for the option to switch different version of Android... We will only have AOSP ROMs and not ever stock ICS (no mods) ROMs because there is no stock ICS for our device. Only Sense or AOSP.

That's really funny that you're calling him out when CM is definitely not stock vanilla ics.
So, the easiest answer to this question is because no one, including the OP, has created one yet, if its even possible with what there is to work with.
I'm actually pretty happy with all of the options devs have created for this phone.
only "nexus" phones have vanilla ics

What does "stock ICS" actually mean in this context? AOSP is the true Android experience as Google intended, right? So, is stock ICS something else?
So we can get:
AOSP - original;
AOSP - customized;
Sense - original (default)
Sense - customized.
Is this correct?
Wouldn't we be able to get TouchWiz ROMs, for example?
I'm new to flashing ROMs and all, but I've been following the scene for the past few months, and even though I can say I'm among the brighter people, I still have difficulties understanding - mostly - the nomenclature of the scene.
We don't have it because is EVIL. That stupid google search gadget permanently stuck to all pages is ridiculously stupid. Plus indeed a lot of the interface. HTC Sense is like a cool breeze.
well i come from HTC Sensation ROMS, and in that sections there are a lots of "Senseless ROMS" where everything related with sense is removed, except for the camera, and the roms were so smooth and as fast as AOSP ROMS, the feeling was exactly the same,
I hope someone make a senseless rom for HTC One S soon because its really awesome (like a AOSP rom without any bug becaus its based on a sense rom byt without any sense part)

There are AOSP roms; they are just in the alpha stage of development and rather buggy in some areas. If you want a senseless ROM (as in the actual sense launcher removed), any of the HTC-based roms (including stock, non-rooted phones) can have Sense removed and replaced by any launcher from the market. I've tried the existing AOSP roms, and aside from the bugs... the stripped down HTC-roms as just a quick.
Hello all,
So I just unlocked my phone's bootloader. It's a Telus htc one x with 1.91 firmware running on ics. Just wondering which rom I should flash? I used evita if that means anything. Would like jelly bean if possible.

So I can flash anything from this section of forums? I like sense, I flashed CM10 just to get it officially rooted. Looking for the lastest and greatest, just don't know where to download, unless it's just scattered across here.
Go to android development forum there are a number of sense jb roms. Not a lot of tweaks in them yet as the Rom just got released. I use viper and its very stable but there are a few choices

THIS IS MY PREFERENCE: If you want a stock android feel with the battery and camera of Sense use Senseless RebelROM (in android development Sexton). Right now it's in beta and the video camera doesn't work but other than that it's phenomenal. As the precious poster said, Viper is also a great choice. If you don't like Sense, Nocturnal Dirty and Jellybam are both good choices.

All ROMs are for both Sensation and Sensation XE (as it is the same device). If you are not unlocked, read the guides available in the General discussion forum. And then just choose the ROM you'd like to use from the Development forum.. All promise good performance, but it's up to your taste to choose really. Some are "smoother" than others, and it's for you to try and find your preffered one.

I did not mention any ROM, I gave you a link to the development forum. There are many ROMs available, Read about them and chose according to your preference. There are Sense 3.6/4.1/4+ (and soon even 5), there is AOSP, CyanogenMod (and quite a few actually).
Currently, my daily driver is albinoman's CM10.1, which is quite good (but it's not sense, if that's what you're after).
Read the ROM threads, see comments, and choose for yourself. Android 4.1 and up are usually very smooth, because of project butter. but many ICS (Android 4.0) ROMs are quite smooth too.

ViperS Sense 4.1 is without bugs. I used it for a couple of months, quite stable (and I even tortured it a little).
As I said, Sense 5 will be available soon, it's now in testing, and when it will be ready, they will open a thread for it. For now there is sense 4.1 (which is stable), and Sense 4+ that is considered quite stable - many people use it as their daily driver, but There might be some bugs still, but will be ironed out in the future.

Nope, but you can try it yourself. You should get your own experience. see what people comment (they may point to issues). Just try what seems good to you. Remember to make a backup, and if you don't like a ROM, just revert to your old one or flash another.
I won't give my opinions on particular ROMs as it can go on forever and it's subjective.

This rom is really, really fast, but without SENSE.
This is newest Android (4.3) whit speed improvements.
Hi! I'd like to ask something... Why we have to the Sense fully and totally forget!? Why wasn't good so, as it was? The Sense is a very-very nice and userfriendly thing. The HTC's trademark. At first the Sense 3.6 came out, than 4.0, 4.1, 5, 5.5 etc. The HTC smartphones even now with Sense coming out. Really so impossible the Sense in the KitKat to kitchen for example? I can't that understand. These were just some questions from me. Sorry, when i anybody hurted! I meant no harm! And sorry for my bad english! And even so thanks a lot for everyone, who try to make any roms, kernels, mods other themes! :good:
i think he is saying that we have don't have many sense rom development...
But I think he wanted to say that: "We do not have Sense on kitkat rom etc. And why someone cannot cook this kind of ROM?"
Also also wrong section
