Find the tar or md5 file and install through odin, further instructions at the link.
Worked for me

Cf-root by chainfire still works.
Sent from my GT-N8013 using xda premium

I just updated with mobile odin and it was rooted

I also believe that the CWM method still works too.

It does work. I did it after flashing 4.1.2 over the german rom. No problems whatsoever.

Are there benefits to choosing one method over another?

The ClockWorkMod method will give you root and the ClockWorkMod recovery to install zips and do nandroid backups/restore from recovery, while the cf-root will only install root.

Is there any root for 101G running ICS WW-9.2.2.3 ?????
Thanks in advance
Anyone help
From what I've read, they closed the exploit with the update so ViperMod does not work anymore. You might have to wait for something new.
Thanks for your reply BUT jcarrz1's rom which based on 9.2.2.3 is rooted , How did he do it ?

There's a different between a rooted ROM and trying to root a stock ROM.
He just base his ROM off 9.2.2.3. For those that already have root and CWM they can update to a rooted 9.2.2.3
It's just those who are on stock non rooted 9.2.2.3 will have to find a way to root first before they can install CWM and flash a rooted 9.2.2.3
Hope that make sense.

Right but it's a different process. He take the ROM from ASUS and modified it on the pc. After which if you're rooted and have cwm you can flash his ROM.
Bottom line you need to get root to flash "custom" ROM.
What he does is on the "dev" side of things.

You can root / unroot your device without flashing bootloader . Check thread about Android Development for 7"
So nothing new ?
I'm also interesting to make a backup of my tablet before flashing rom.
Im looking for the DBT Firmware or how to create a rom backup too.
Is it possible to flash a firmware from another country and change the language (maybe the BTU Firmware = United Kingdom)?
So its not the DBT Firmware but it is stock.
Another idee i've searched for is to extract the Firmware from Kies.
I've found something but i can't post the URL, because I'm a new user
Google for "extract firmware kies", it's the first entry.
Unfortunately we have to wait for the update to 4.0.4 to get the firmware.

Flash stock rom only from odin or heimdall and you will have no root and stock factory state and counter will not increase as counter not increase with stock firmwares
But try to use triangle away app before all that to reset counter to zero

Using the first option -- yes, because it replaces stock recovery with CWM. Other two options only provide root, nothing else. In order to flash PAC ROM (or any custom ROM, for that matter), you need a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP), which you will have to install as an extra step. So, the first option is the easiest...

Question on updating from 4.1.1 VBRBLK3 to 4.1.2 VBRMF1

I have a rooted Verizon S3 that is currently on 4.1.1 VBRBLK3, I would like to upgrade it to 4.1.2 VBRMF1. I understand that I can use Odin to do a full rom flash however but I don't want to go that route, I would like to use the apply the update using the recovery option . In order to do this, do I need to appy the updates in sequencial order? Like update it to VBRMB1 first and then VBRMF1 or I can apply VBRMF1 directly to VBRBLK3?
Thanks,

Are you rooted AND unlocked? Do you have a custom recovery? If so, you could just flash the rooted stock VRBMF1 rom posted by Scrosler.

Or you just go grab the modem/radio from the stickies and flash in recovery.

That's the complete stock rom that you're referring to, not just an update zip file, right?

Since its a rooted zip, it will upgrade the software to VRBMF1. Your baseband (Settings/About Phone/Baseband) will still read VRBLK3 so you'll need to flash the firmware that Sandman-007 just posted about. As I said before, this will only work if you are rooted AND unlocked. If you haven't unlocked your bootloader then do not try this method.
To answer your initial question in your first post, you can take the OTA which will unroot your device. You can then use Casual by beanstown106 to root/unlock again.

I think I have found both files now. Just to be sure, these 2 files are:
I535VRBMF1_I535VZWBMF1_VZW.zip (around 820MB)
d2vzw_VRBMF1_firmware.zip (around 20MB)
Does it matter which one I do it first?

Looks about right. The flashing order does not matter. I prefer to flash separately with a boot into the rom between flashes whereas others would flash all at once. Personal preference really.

[Q] Move from 4.0.4 to 4.4

I am trying to get to kitkat on this damn phone and it just keeps bricking.
Does anyone know if i need to go through all the updates to get this to work?
maybe if you have a step by step that would be amazing.
Thank you
I assume you have a custom recovery installed, just make sure your recovery manager is up to date as some older versions of CWM will not flash 4.4 and same with TWRP. I used CWM touch v6.0.4.3.

installation aborted.
There must be an order in which you have to apply updates.
Anyone have any clue on what that order is?

There is no such order. As long as your bootloader is unlocked and you are running an updated recovery you should be able to flash seamlessly between any ROM.
What 4.0.4 ROM are you currently running? And are you sure you're on the most recent CWM?
I think your firmware must be up to date as well. I can't remember what the latest is off the top of my head. I'll check.

VRBMF1 is the firmware you should be on.
