Dear professionals,
I'm having a problem and I really need your help.
I have bought the "HTC Desire S" off ebay and it came out to be Orange locked, I have unlocked it successfully however it still has Orange ROM and all the useless Orange apps, can someone please tell me how to remove it and install a regular official ROM as they r very annoying and the ROM has no updates..
I appreciate your help
thank you very much in advance

take it easy, u might hurt ur self
ok its not quite in the right place, but no need to bite his head off.
anyway, in answer to your question, the way i removed the branding from my vodafone DS was this
http://revolutionary.io/ download this tool and follow its instructions, this will root your phone and give you a recovery tool that will allow you to flash a new ROM onto your phone.
With the phone rooted, you will be able to back up your data using an app from the market. Titanium Backup is the usual favorite.
EDIT : may be wrong about it providing root, I personally skipped the backup step as I had no data to lose, but if that is the case there are guides in the forums for obtaining root access
next look through this forum to find a ROM that suits your needs, from the sound of things you want the stock one, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1230029 should suit you.
download the zip file and transfer it to your SD card.
next you need to reboot into your recovery mode by turning the phone off, then hold the vol down button and power button together and selecting recovery from the menu
finally use the volume buttons to select install zip from SD card, and point it at your downloaded rom. it may take a few mins so allow it to finish then select reboot phone.
again this first boot may take a little time, but once its up you should have a debranded ROM as if you had just bought the phone new.
Add the details for your google account and redownload your backup app so you can restore your data and you are good to go
thank you very much for your help,
I shall give it a try,
by the way, will be able to install official updates on it, or will I have to stick with custom ROMs for ever?
thanks again

Nooo, not forever. Just until you get a new device
But seriously: Custom roms don't work with official updates. The trick is that most of the custom rom developers provide their own flashable updates for their roms. The difference is in the way you perform the update. There are even fairly developed custom roms, like MIUI, which have their own over-the-air updates (actually more often than official updates are coming.)
EDIT: In fact, you can switch back to a stock rom anytime and get the official updates back.

lol, possibly....hello,
although a lot of effort had been put into creating a lot of resources which are very user friendly, so it's quiet frustrating when they aren't even looked at.
Plus development is for just that, which is why the moderator moved the thread.

OK, I understand... but how do I get the official stock rom?, and by stock that means it has no Orange apps at all right ?

Once unlocked, i.e. rooted, you can use titanium backup or a root file explorer to uninstall the apps you don't need from the rom you are running atm.
(@ben - what was it you said to me th other day? "no need to sound off" ... hm)

Well, again: read around the forum a little, please. There is a sticky thread right on the top of the development section, called ROMS/RECOVERY/ROOT etc. It's a must read for newcomers. Very useful thread. There you find a link to a collection of stock roms. These are distributed as .exe files, so you can run them in windows and a simple-to-use installer will pop up and help you with pushing the stock rom to your phone. It is advisable that you double check that you are flashing the rom you really want. Someone here will help you to choose the right one.
EDIT: By the way in the general section (where we are now with this thread) there is also a very useful sticky. It's called Guide for Newcomers to Android. Seriously, it's a good read, given that you own an Android phone...

OK man, I will do that, thanks for the tips
Thanks chris5s, Ill definitely give it a shot.
This tool would help to get rid of the annoying Orange splash screen, and other useless apps could be removed as stated before.
Of course, best way is to install generic HTC European rom or custom rom of your choice.
Aforementioned tool would also help install roms, radios, etc, of your choice.
Good luck
Peace
Edit: sorry, Android flasher won't help install roms, but will help with installing custom recovery - Ext4 or Clockwork Mod - essential in s-off/rooted flashing.
as above. thanks
i want stock rom back. D:
By flashing an RUU.
There's a sticky in the development section with all official hTC RUUs that you can download. Make sure to get the one for your device.
I can't seam to be able to find the thread.

oops, my bad. turned out it's not a sticky (it should be though)
here's the thread link
If you want a guide, look here: http://tinyurl.com/RUUGuide
I came across what looks like a link to the 2.21 RUU, but I haven't seen the RUU posted here at all. It just seems like it would be easier to use this than having to follow the process laid out in the OTA thread.

There is one linked in the RUU Ville/Ville C2 shipped roms thread in development section here as well that is supposedly legit. Kindly mirrored by torxx here: http://d-h.st/nwQ
md5 matches the one from android hilfe, could be that torxx grabbed his there ofc
Sorry haven't used it myself but not seen any complaints about it either.

The RUU at android-hilfe.de works of course..

As I answered this question in relation to the RUU earlier today and the thread is one below yours, it's a bit unnecessary to bump this thread. Just use your eyes :banghead:
As for instructions, look in the stickies as it's been covered often enough.
Sorry, I have this thread bookmarked, didn't know there is answer in another thread. Thanks.
I have download OTA ICS for Desire and it has a one thing name ''firmware'' how i can do with it??? help me please

You really need to search and read so you can understand what you're doing and asking.
Also, the official ICS was rubbish - slow, flaky, not good. If you want ICS then flash one of the many good Custom ROMs instead.
I will back what Simon has said... if u still havent rooted yet... root ur phone... try to Get S-off , instructions can be found be in Development Section, Dont go for official OTA... i installed it and believe me it was a pain in a** . Once S-OFF u can flash many Roms out here and figure which onces best for u ...Happy Flashing
