Simple Torch
This is a very simple app that just let's you turn your phone's flashlight on and off, so you can use it as a torch in the dark.
This app will not:
Share your grandma's birthday on Twitter
Claim to be a flashlight, but is just a white screen
Request every available permission
This app will do:
Load up super fast
Be a simple flashlight
Need only a single permission to access the flash
It does not look very fancy, because that would make it slower.
I made this app after i only found apps that wanted permission to read my mails, sms or similar - or needed years to load.
This is also my first app ever :good:
Screenshot:
On startup you should see this and the flash should turn on as well.
The app should also be able to run in the background. Use the back button to shut the app down.
I wanted to put this on the google play store - but they want $25 and my credit card info... meh.

GitHub: source code

See attachment.
Should i mention that you should not install this if you don't have a back camera or flash?
Tested on Samsung Galaxy S Advance; Android 2.3.6
Feedback more than welcome!
I have test it and it does wat you say.
Starts fast.
Chance something on the ui because the looks can be better.
I'm stil gonna use this app,so thnx and looking forwards to the updates.
Verzonden door mijn GT-I9300 met xda premium
Glad it works for you as well!
I would like to work on the interface, but im not the best designer, so cross your fingers
I hope it will still be as fast as it is now.
I also have some plans on a few settings.

Update:
After beeing very busy with other stuff, I uploaded the source code to github.
I edited the Thread, feel free to take a look
Thanks, this works great!
I've been using other app's for this, but they al took too long to boot up, and sometimes just shut down because i'd be opening ads …
Again, a nice interface would be nice, but not at the cost of boot time.
Thanks for your reply.
I thought about different things to make it look nicer but could not really think of anything that would work at the same speed.
e.g. a background image would still take time to load so that is out of question.
Tell me if you have any simple ideas to make it look better

Well, i thought about one thing …
When using the app in a dark environment, the white background can be blinding a bit, making it harder to see the actual light coming from the led.
Using a black background would give it more contrast.
Useful stuff.
P.S. Thanks for code)

Thanks!
I just found this and wanted to say thanks. I've tried a bunch of flashlight apps on my android, most were full of junk and/or didn't work.
This app works fine, doesn't do any BS in the background and has a small memory footprint - as an app like this should. Good job!
A black background and a bigger button would be better. I'll see if the code is easy to change.
EDIT: changing "Theme.Light" to "Theme.Black" in styles.xml and the button's width / height parameter in main_window.xml did the trick
could not be more perfect and elegant code
Great app.
At 40K??? Are you KIDDING? freaking awesome!!!!
Elegant design.
perfect in every way.
an app that does just what you want...and nothing you don't.
Keep up the good work, you will go far.
i really like the simplicity of your app, and the idea that you really want to help without taking anything from the user

Light means small, fast and easy to use!
Are you tired of complicated operations and features when surfing the internet? And bored with the low speed when loading the webpage either?
If the answer is ‘Yes’, then you need a ‘Light’ browser!
Light Browser is a fascinating browser!
It can improve the browsing speed, and save the memory of your device. And especially suitable for the devices which the size of screen is limited.
The most important is that, it’s Easy!
Although it doesn’t support lots of complex features, it DOES meet most of the users’ needs. And since the small size of the app, the loading speed is much faster than others.
Features:
1. Gallery View
2. Share Link/page
3. Bookmark Management
4. Screenshot
5. Find on Page
Not only the using, but the UI is also simple and comfortable! Generally the Light Browser will make you fondle admiringly.
*English, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian are supported in this version.

I'd suggest you remove the ad from the top if you're saying it's especially suitable for devices with small screens.
It's taking a big chunk out of my Galaxy Ace.
Or, provide a way to remove ads, for example, download a paid licence.

Yeah. Until then, guess I'll wait till it will be removed.
May be u make a 'one time click for today' ads. Means those ad will come back again tomorrow after user have pressed it once a day.
Definitely a win-win situation for me.

Interesting, let me try. :fingers-crossed:
Really small
This browser is really small , I try it just now ,very fast.
As soon as I noticed the ad right on top I uninstalled it. Lame.
Kudos for a really fast browser. Suggestions :
1. Ads should be placed at bottom. As design language says that browsing experience has to be least distracting. And our eyes while browsing gaze 60% of screen from top. So shifting ads to bottom on a slimmer bar will solve problem to some extent. If this free version really wins heart partially it will automatically pave the way for ad free premium version.
2. Please implement holo theme for menus or just design a fresh UI for yourself. But don't include gingerbread design. This makes the browser a foreign feel on ics and jb. Best option would be to go for a signature menu, design like opera or dolphin did for themselves to keep consistent over various os and creating brand impact.
All the luck with your effort.

Floating Paint. Trace anything you want to keep in a picture.
- floating windows (StandOut 2.1 by Mark Wei/pingpongboss)
- change transparancy of each window to trace what's laying under the window
- select one from several colors
- resize, move, shrink windows
- save, rename, delete, send pictures
Download on Google Play :good:

i might be wrong ,but have not seen any " similar app" like this,on Google play store /

hi,
i had the force closes about 3 times , when i was attempting to
trace and trying to resize correct screen size ( expand )
otherwise working smoothly.Just one more issue. Is it possible to" lock "
"screen" over photo ,as i noticed if you are not careful ,screen would slide "around "
on photo and making any attempt to trace difficult .
As stated above ,i find this app of yours very interesting.
I use the s pen of note 2 ,and it works fine.
good luck

Wow that app is really cool and unique! However there is one big problem when I'm using it, okay it's maybe only whem I'm using it! Its really annoying that the backscreen is black-transparentblack, I would love the app if I could change it somehow to white! It would help when reading white pdfs etc. and making notes. It would be really good change for all tiny apps but I for my use it only bothered me when I was using the painting thing... And then eraser is also missing, but thats not as bad thing!
If set up like this will be transparency.
This is my new Unit Conversion app released today, HoloConvert. I felt that all of the current Android unit conversion apps are ugly and many aren't powerful enough, so I decided to make one of my own with a Holo interface in mind. I recieved great support on XDA for my last app Scientific 7 Minute Workout so I wanted to see if I could get some feedback for my newest app.

What makes this unit conversion app different?
Like I said before, I feel the user interface of an app is one of the most major components of an app. Even if an app works well, you shouldn't have to sacrifice on the looks or ease-of-use of an app. I made this app to target that, while implementing many features such as:
Saving your favorite conversion units
Adding new custom units
Tip Calculator
Multiple themes
Choice in decimal precision
Built-in calculator
I just released the app, so please let me know what you think and of any suggestions!
Wow this looks great!
Just downloaded and it's a great app! :good:
Just one suggestion can you give swap icon (similar like in google translate) so if we need to change from m to cm or vice versa from cm to m, we only need one tap
Definitely will buy it! Looking forward for next update
Beautiful work dev, keep up:good:
Thanks a lot guys! And how could I have forgotten a swap icon, added to my to-do list! I am very actively updating the app at this time (I've technically pushed out 3 updates so far) so keep the suggestions coming

Yep, there was a small issue with them at first but I fixed it pretty quick! Let me know if you find anything else!
Just saw on xda portal am going to try this.
Buying Pro was a no-brainer.
Now I'd only like to get an option to get the favorites on opening the app. This way I have to click two times for them, whilst the goal of favorites would be to have a shortcut!

That would be great. Also, some more currencies would be great, if you have the time (I kind of miss SEK).
Great app though! and at 0.79€, very affordable!
Scrolling through the units is extremely laggy on my phone, other buttons work with instant feedback. Somehow the list is really heavy to render.
I prefer asking google now for unit conversion but this is very nice app
Nice and handy app. One little bug, I cannot input negative numbers on the From input. E.g., when converting from Fahrenheit to Celsius.

Just downloaded.
Looks very nice but I have two remarks.
On my SGS2 4.3" display, text is HUGE.
It would be nice to be able to select between few text sizes.
Nothing fancy, simple "Small, Medium, Large" selection.
You desperately need to implement reverse conversion.
If I choose meter as first unit and insert number "1", it works for Angstrom but cannot cope with AU.
You could implement simple swipe left or right to replace currently selected units
Also, question "Are you sure you wish to exit?" is unnecessary in my opinion.
Best wishes in new year!

Well I purchased it.
Will keep it but two issues so far.
The icon is ugly (will be nice to have something graphical)
The first conversion I tried was not accurate. There are exactly 12 inches to a foot so I selected convert feet to inches, selected 3 feet and it did not convert to exactly 36 inches.
Nice
Some current, resistance, voltage, ect. units, would be great. Nice job I can help with translation to polish.
great!
 it's cool
Very nice app. I just have not been able to enter a negative number for conversion.
For instance, if I attempt to enter -40 for a F to C for temp conversion, the "-" symbol does not appear to register as having been selected for input, despite the fact that the keyboard shows it available and I have entered it.

Hi all!
I wasn't satisfied with any of the current methods of accessing all apps/contacts so I set out to create my own.
I present to you, Snype.
Snype has a unique dual-index system where switching between "snyping" apps and contacts is almost instant. It has changed the way I use my device and has done the same for many of my beta testers.
It also has a unique "side panel" mode where apps and contacts can be accessed simply by scrolling a finger up or down the edge of the display, which is always active no matter which app you are currently in. A list will appear and automatically begin scrolling to the location in the index that the finger is pointing to.
Snype does not try to replace your launcher. In fact, I designed it so that I would be able to use any launcher I like and not have to worry about the launcher's implementation of the app drawer. This means it's very easy to have a completely uncluttered, beautiful home screen and still be only a second away from accessing any app or contact you desire.
There are no ads and all functionality is available for free. The premium upgrade allows full customisation of the appearance of the lists.
Let me know how it goes for you!
I should mention that the premium upgrade is available for $0.99 for a short period of time to celebrate the launch of Snype. It will be a bit more later.

Really good app. I will give you 5 stars!
Some things to change:
- Add more languages
- if possible the alphabet lists have a title to know that one it is for apps, and the other for contacts.
- A widget and a direct access from home.

Thanks for the excellent feedback.
More languages is actually a surprisingly large challenge due to the indexes. It is something that I might look into again later, but when I was having a crack at it before there were some significant technical hurdles.
I have thought about doing something to let you know at a glance which is for apps and which is for contacts... like different colours or something. I'm not sure. Where do you think the title should go? There's not much room there.
I also looked into doing a widget. Unfortunately widgets don't support all kinds of views so making a widget with this functionality is impossible unless the launcher is built specifically for it. That's actually the main reason I implemented the side panels, because I knew the widget would not be possible.
ability to launch apps in halo would be nice. And maybe icon theme support. Very nice and useful app by the way:good:

I just released an update to fix some crashes in the initial release.
I just released an update which added animation to the side panels, adds Snype to the list of apps and fixes some bugs. I'm still trying to hunt down some bugs that occur only on some devices. Let me know if you have one of those devices please.
Okay, I think I've got all the known bugs fixed. Let me know if there's anything else wonky.
Just released an update with a new feature: favourites bar.
Now it's even faster to access those special few apps and contacts you use most often.
I love the ability to search contracts easily! And light theme looks cool.

1. Are you talking about a lag in the animation or the loading of the list? I'm working on a different implementation for the list but I haven't seen any animation lag myself
2. That makes sense! I'll add it to my planned feature list maybe something like a longpress menu in the settings screen? with options to rename, view info etc.
Maybe it's just my phone. I'll try it on another fresh device as well as a fresh install on mine, and report back.

I'll stick to updating on the play store itself for now, but I'll drop a post every time an update is pushed

Wonderful. When I get the update, I will test and report back
Also, how about the ability to "hide" apps from the list.
For people with plenty of apps, the scroll list could take awhile.
If this is implemented, it would be perfect for me.

Yes! That's one of the things that actually got me into making a minimalist launcher.
Very few minimalist launchers have that ability and the implementation is quite, for lack of a better word, wonky.
