Need a new ROM? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Ive been rocking CM for sometime now with this phone and all previous ones, and I do like it its been my dd, but im looking for something different. Now I know this is/can be opinionated and subjective to users, but I would like to get into a good discussion about my next ROM for my S3.
So lets see what you bring to the table.

JellyBeans, CleanROM and HELLSROM are great, stable and fully supported. Check them out. I go between them and am currently on 4.2.1 HELLSROM

Depends on if you want a TouchWiz ROM or an AOSP ROM

Well I'd like to stick with AOSP or AOKP

If you want to try something completely different and stay with AOSP, i suggest trying MIUI.

This is a great build/ rom in the link

That's actually one I'd prefer not to use, I tried that with my droid 2 and to be honest I did not care for it. For me it didn't flow well...if that makes sense

Well would you want a stable one or a recent one?

yeah i know what you mean, i used to use MIUI but not anymore, now i use Jelly Beans rom by beanstown106... which for me i like it because of the AOSP theme and feel, but with touchwiz features and stability. mainly the touchwiz camera.

I've been running CleanROM 5.6 with LeanKernel 1.6 for a couple of days now. I've never used a version of CleanROM that wasn't stable.

If you want a stable AOSP ROM that doesn't have much bugs you would have to go to late versions such as Milestone 1 release of AOKP, but if you want a TouchWiz ROM with a 4.2 AOSP feel HellsROM (recent development so will have a few bugs) would be perfect.
AOKP
HellsROM

I have thought about using AOKP, and from what I can tell they are getting ready to release a new version over at rootzwiki ( I could be wrong ) or I was thinking about Parnoid..

Ya, I tried touchwiz for a while for some reason battery life isn't as balanced as in AOSP ROM's atleast for me anyway, but performance wise they are pretty smooth.

I guess the problem is there are so many spread out across so many forums it's very difficult to get them in one spot.
I've been looking at what's been mentioned but still nothing has jumped out at me. I guess I need to choose one and go with it, unless I should wait for something to come out

Ive been looking at Clean ROM for awhile, I might make the jump. As for GalaxyMod 14.1 I have not seen that one.. might give that one a look too

I am about to try out the newest version of pac-man ROM. It is a hybrid of AOKP,CM 10 and Paranoid Android.

The newest version of cleanrom is my personal favorite. Its very fast, clean, lite, and super stable. I don't have a single issue with anything on this rom. Its updated every now and then but not to fix issues because there are none, but to make it even better by removing more crap from the system to make battery life even better. I've tried a bunch of roms and I get better battery life, faster and smoother performance, perfect stability, and overall happiness with this rom than anything else that I've tried. Along with the k3 modem and rpm its perfect. I got 1 day and 4.5 hours off a single charge before I got to 10% battery with medium use (using my phone as I normally would, without purposefully letting it standby to save battery). If I had to pay $50 to have this rom, I'd do it. Flash it and give it a couple days and you'll see why.

I'd have to say that synergy r257 and clean ROM 5.6 are the two best ROMs

CM9 or AOKP?

what do u use and with what kernel? and what is the best set up?
You can't have other people choosing for you! lol everyone will have their opinions and liking towards different roms. I personally go for CM9 + InstigatorX's kernels. Some people go for AOKP or Chimaira other AOSP based and use Instigator's kernels. From there you have to choose which version or which governer is to your liking, if you prefer a certain setting like performance ones or power saving ones etc...
As for CM9 and AOKP I am an avid CM9 user but have used AOKP before. AOKP has a lot of customization right out of the box, CM9 is going from the ground up so they add features slowly and is constantly update almost once a day. AOKP they release one update every say 10-15 days~ and occasional milestone which will have more features than fixes. I like seeing updates gradually come and look forward to them on a daily bases thats why I stuck with CM9 and I like it for its stability. I've had a few FC's on the older AOKP but those are probably gone now with the latest milestone but features and readily available tweaks, the unicorn has them all (AOKP). I would personally make a nandroid back up and test them out yourself to see if its to your liking. My preference may not be the same as yours so its each to their own. :good:
Thanks for the reply bro, just wondering what the peeps on here were using, I think I'm going to stick with cm9, I really dig it, but I was wondering what kernel should I add, its a big mess with a bunch of releases on that forum lol

More 'features' in 4.0. But it may bootloop you. If you're ok with dealing with that then 4.0. I myself am trying to decide and I don't want to deal with bootloops so I just, right this second, decided to go with 2.2.1

I would go with 4.0. I was having trouble with my phone looping when I put on UCLF6 modem, I switched to the newest kernel and everythings been smoother. I would also say don't be afraid to try things out. Usually you will know what you like and don't like after you test a few configurations.
Just backup and keep multiple versions of the kernel in your SD so you can switch just in case it fails to boot. I'm currently using 4.0 badass underclocked to 1.1ghz when idling/light use and use smartassv2 when I play games.

I use Chimera RC2 and it is amazing with InstigatorX kernel. Had some trouble getting it to run at first but finally got it to run. As for setup, I prefer performance so I am working on getting it to stabilize with 1.7-1.8 OC. I am still testing governors and UV settings but SmartassV2 benchmarked pretty damn high compared to badass and ondemand.
RC3-(Official?) should correct issues and may be released today

For those having battery life issues here are some UV settings that I posted up in InstigatorX's thread. They have been stable for the past 36 hours.

In my humble opinion, CM9 tends to be a touch more stable than AOKP. But remember AOKP at its essence is CM9 with extra features thrown on, so it's bound to have the potential for a few more bugs. But both are very stable and won't give you any more issues than any other ROM really. Basically it's a question if AOKP's features are something you feel you want. I recommend spending about a week with both and then deciding.

What is the best Rom for Verizon GS3? in terms of speed and performance

I wonder what's the fastest stable rom for the verizon Galaxy S3, in terms of Speed and performance, Personally I think Senergy is the one, any other Ideas... thanks
I think it comes down more to how bloated/bloatfree the rom is and the kernel imo

The video player is outstanding although there you can run multiple programs in AOSP to replace it
I agree the camera is irreplaceable
I only use Play Music so I cannot comment too much on the TW music player

To be honest I've tried every Rom. And even stock this phone is buttery smooth. I have had almost every high end android phone Verizon has sold. The s3 is the only phone out of a about my 8 other phones I've had in the last few years that I have never seen lag or stutter. It is perfect and always smooth. Way better then the GNEX or rezound I had. I've had the s3 since launch in July and I have not seen it lag yet. This phone has truly impressed me and I'm very picky.

In my opinion, Clean ROM is the most stable ROM available. I have been running 2.1 for a while and just updated to 2.5 with out any problems or crashes. I highly recommend! Scrosler is the bomb!:good:
I've gotta throw a vote in for Jellywiz... It's not the greatest on battery life, but it's a great daily driver.
I also liked Synergy ROM as well.
CleanROM for touchwiz, AOKP for AOSP jellybean.

My favorite so far for Jellybean has been Jellywiz, but it was a little buggy for my taste last time I ran it. The hot reboots were killing me.
Daily driver right now is CleanROM 2.1 with Clean Kernel 1.2, Dirty Tweaks 2.3 and Kinda Crap Mods. Best setup I've had over the past month, and really gives me the functionality and feel I like. I've flashed other stuff and keep restoring CleanROM.
But, you gotta try them out for yourself.
I gotta jump in here and spread some aosp love!! Paranoid 2.13 and Codename Android 3.6 are fantastic daily drivers. Ive been using CNA since Sunday. Super smooth, lots of customization, theme chooser, new SMS/MMS pop up,, etc...
When paired with lean kernel battery life is definitely do able!
You should at least give them a try!!

CleanROM. Looks like stock, very stable and incredible battery life.
I've been running synergy since day 1 and been lovin it, had it on my dinc as well, amazing battery life, superb performance and no reception problems at all. I like the fact that one of they're main priorities is completely relinquishing Verizon's control over devices. currently using cm10 and have the same mod for changing songs via the volume rocker.
Overall i like the AOSP based roms best. The just tend to have a number of things not work or work well (GPS, audio issues, strength of signal, etc...). The TW ROMS are best with the stable releases, unless you like testing with daily.
I have most success doing complete wipes and a regular flash to stock when i hit weird issues.
CleanROMS are really fantastic, Beans is VERY innovative (just unstable on my phone), CM10 is great but will really come into its own when the issues are fixed.
Keep in mind that what is stable on one phone may not be on the next.

I am still pretty new to this however, a little background. I just switched over from drinking the Iphone cool-aid. Ever so thankful that I did! Im running AOKP Build2. I love it however the battery life eats it big time. I see everyone talking about Clean Rom and I think that is about what I want. Am I understanding correctly that Clean Rom is pretty much bare bones? All I care about is "Butter" and battery life! Thanks in advance from a noober!
My favorites due to reliability and use as a daily driver. Haven't had any issues with these gems:
Synergy - whatever the latest ICS touchwiz version is. (Using Imo's LeanKernel)
Code Name Android - whatever the latest version is. (Using KT747 Kernel)

I really hate how I flash a new from every day. I though jb was good at first but not like everyone else I have my doubts. A little to "heavy" doesn't feel right on my phone. I used to run CM7 and CM9 on my i9023 nexus s.. and I found CM7 to be really unstable. I switched to a CM9 nightly and it was a godsend.. smoother, more attractive and 10x more stable! but I found it sort of "slowed down" after about 3 months.. just a circumstantial observation though, didn't do any tests.
I'm hooking up my friends with a couple of Nexus S's shortly because they need phones. I'm thinking of giving them CM9, rather than 10, for better battery life. But I'm guessing CM9 is susceptible to the SMS remote wipe hack? haven't tested it.
Personally I never liked cyanogenmod up until 9.0 , I'm on cm9 right now but it random reboot & hangs :/ cm10 seems pointless to me.

true dat. I remember when AOKP came out with their first JB rom, it was so unstable; rebooted my phone every 10 mins and I flashed cm10 and was happy for a while but it then started to do the same thing. Then i went to paranoid and it was even worse; so i went back to cm10. and then AOKP JB build came out and i was skeptical about getting it because of my first experience with them but I gave it a try and I have been flashing AOKP all the way up to build 4 and let me tell you; BEST ****ING ROM ON JB right now. Thing is, every rom is fast and smooth right after you flash it. In order to talk so good about one, I'd say you need to keep it for, at least, 3 months. If it's still stable and fast, with no wipes needed, no daily reboots, I'd believe you.

Thing is, every rom is fast and smooth right after you flash it. In order to talk so good about one, I'd say you need to keep it for, at least, 3 months. If it's still stable and fast, with no wipes needed, no daily reboots, I'd believe you.

AOKP JB is very stable now. I haven't wiped since the nightlies, up to build 4 currently. I flash new build/nightly as soon as it's available. 3 months? Don't think I can hold for even a few days after new build is released.

I doubt there's any CM10 based rom more stable than CM10.0 stable. I'm running it right now and so far I haven't encountered any bugs or issues really, except for volume wake being unreliable (likely a kernel issue).

That sounds good I don't use volume wake so I'm good without it, I read somewhere that cm stable wasn't really stable just another nightly but I'm willing to give it a try, I'm so sick of sense at the moment and I'm waiting for the rebuild of viper one s and sense 4+ but in the mean time this will do

+1 on CM10 Stable. Although, the latest Nightly is fine also. Stables are Nightlies to some extent. Maybe just be a "Polished" version of previous nightly. Not 100% sure as I am not on the inside of the building.
Surprised you put this in General ridearoundsolo, you are definitely no Noob--
Haha I debated on where I should post but I decided general since I'm not really looking for a how to but more just to see what are people are using at the moment, but yea I'm on cm10 stable and its working great but it feels too boring compared to being spoiled on viper one s

Both definitely have pros and cons. I like both. The widgets on Sense and the lightness and smoothness of CM10.
While cm10 is great I can't play shadowgun dead zone! Back to sense it is
