[Q] How to know if I have Jelly Bean or ICS - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi guys, I'm new to this forums and Im going to root my SGS3 for first time, I was just looking for my actual firmware and rom just in case sometime later I decide to turn back to my original stock rom or I have to use guarantee for my phone.
I would like to know how to verify if I have jelly bean or ICS.
Thank you very much!

Just go to settings, scroll down to about phone. If Android version says 4.0.x your on ICS. If it says 4.1.x you are on JB.

Im on 4.1.1 so I guess im on JB, Thank You!, so I suppose JB is better than ICS?

Jelly bean 4.1.1 is touted to have better performance and some UI improvements. More improvements (like group messaging built into the messaging app and lockscreen widgets) are to come in 4.2.1

[Q] Downgrade AOSP JB To Official ICS Asus .26 or .30

Hi all
I would like to install the new official update for jelly bean
Actually I'm on Baked Black Bean (AOSP) Jelly Bean
I think I cannot install directly the update from a custom rom
So, is it possible to downgrade from jelly bean AOSP to ICS asus .30 or .26 and after apply update for official jelly bean ?
Thanks for your answers
No, you cannot flash stock JB over a custom ROM because it is only an update package, as has been referenced on multiple threads by now. Please refrain from starting a new thread to get answers that have been given multiple times already, since that only keeps us busy with reiterating ourselves.

If you get stuck while having read and reread these threads, making sure you get the point, do chime in and we'll help you out.
One word of advice, though: stay away from .30 UNLESS you already have NvFlash installed -- in that case, it seems only nuclear disaster could wreck your 700. In essence, the same would go for stock JB -- as we don't know what the side effects are as of yet -- but, hey, you seem bent on finding out. If you do, tell us, OK?

[Q] Some very basic questions about new ROM

Hi! I have a US Cellular Samsung Galaxy S (SCH-I500). The current OS is android 2.3.5. I know that this will never get ICS or Jelly Bean, so I am thinking about using this as my first foray into Rooting/Modding. I would like to see Jelly Bean on this phone, but will settle for ICS.
I have spent the day reading post after post. I know more now than I did when I started, but still not sure how to proceed. I am really looking to upgrade the UI, but want stability and full functionality.
1. When done, do I still use the Google Play store?
2. Will the camera, text, phone, etc. all work?
I am looking for a Jelly Bean OS (ROM?). I have downloaded AOKP fancinatemtd jb milestone 1. Will this work on my phone, or is there a better fix?
Looking at this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070
I am not sure if this is the right set of instructions? If they are, at what point do I use the AOKP?
As you can tell, I am very confused and would appreciate some step by step direction. Thanks.

CyanogenMod 10.1 help please please

Hello I've probably posted in wrong area but I recently rooted my gt9300 via Odin was on jelly bean 4.1.2 and I installed the 22/2 nightly cyanogen mod and now states jelly bean 4.2.2 has this then now updated my jelly bean? As download was only small.....
I'm a total noobie to root and would appreciate any help please.
What?
It seems you managed to root your stock ROM, which was 4.1.2.
If you flashed CM10.1, you did upgrade your Android version, which is updating your jelly bean.
If that's all you're wondering then you should go to the forum for your GT-i9300
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1563
The forum for your new ROM is located at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2035141
If you have any more questions, you should go there.
Thank you. Is what I've done been done correctly? Or should I have updated my firmware alone first?

Custom ROM, Official JB ROM is not released for 2011 Xperia phones. Moreover, ICS is damn too slow and hence wanted to try out Super Jelly Bean. Don't know what should be the exact sequence of events.
Appreciate any help!
No ROMs I could update

And if you all believe I did not search the forum, I downloaded almost 5-6 custom ROMs, kernels and flashed them but the phone doesn't just boot up.
ICS 4.0.4 did not allow for rooting hence went for 4.0.3 and rooted. Since, last 2 days, I flashed my ray more than 10 time with no success.
No Jelly Bean ROM I could find which would make it workable. Hence, settling for 4.0.3
Thanks.

Hello. How come you didn't get an answer yet? To flash any custom rom all you have to do is to unlock bootloader. Just google the phase "Unlocking the boot loader" and the first link will lead you to the official website with all the instructions (I can't post links since I'm new here). The only problem is that your warranty will be void (if it is a problem). Some roms can be flashed without unlocking, but Super Jelly Bean is not one of them (as far as I know).

Hi, maybe am late or maybe not, anyway
I recommend using test point method to unlock your bootloader so you don't lose your DRM data. Proceed with caution do not attempt this if you don't know what you are doing,** I take NO responsibility if something happen to your phone, you are doing this at your own risk.**
here is the links: www[DOT]androidflip[DOT]com/unlock-xperia-phones-bootloader-without-losing-drm-data-track-id-working/
sorry am a new user i can't post links replace [DOT] by .
And also i recommend using Super Jelly Bean 8.0 as its a great ROM very smooth and with nearly no issue.
hit thanks button if this help.

Thanks everyone. With so many help options provided by you fellas, I could flash custom roms. After trying virtually everything, I've settled with SJB 8.
Thanks,

Tried various ROMs and I must say this forum is very helpful.
Not sure how do I close the thread, incase there is any need for it.

Update to Android 4.3 from 4.0.4

Hello,
I have searched the Motorola Atrix 2 forums for a guide/thread that will help to update my Atrix 2 to Android Jelly Bean.
I have the Cyanogen downloaded along with the required Gapps. This is one of the links that I was referring too.
http://ndroiding.com/motorola-atrix-2-mb865-update/
Now, I have the following questions;
1. How do I root my MB865? Currently I have ICS 4.0.4 (AsiaRetail) and the phone is unrooted. The ICS update was installed OTA.
2. How do I take a backup of my current ROM? I have installed ClockworkRecovery MOD (ROM Manager). The one that I have installed does not support MB865.
3. We have multiple OS(say Win7, WinXP) on one laptop and we boot whichever OS we want when we powerup. So can we do that for our
phones too?
I was referring this xda thread.. and I felt that the information given there was a bit hotch-potch. Also, this one might be old.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650&highlight=root+atrix+2+mb865
Can anyone post the latest thread if there is any?
Also, there is a request to the moderators of the group. Please collect all the guides and post them together in a separate section (If it's there then sorry.. I missed it).
Thanks

That link what you posted is a custom ROM & did not look much in to it beyond that. First up everything I am posting is for non AT&T device. Be informed that our device does not have a direct fxz for JB 4.3 & what you need to do is go to the developer section & d/l official Moto stock (leaked unofficially) JB 4.1.2 then fxz via rsd to your current ICS phone (obviously you got to read all the steps, drivers, usb debugging enabled etc etc). This gets your device on JB 4.1.2 official and then install Boot Menu Manager 0.3.4 (search development thread again) & thereon read extensively on working of BMM and that point forward you are free to install any Jelly Bean 4.3 custom rom's. Good luck.

So you are on stock ICS and your phone is not ATT... You need to download jelly bean official leak 4.1.2... Install RSD lite on your windows and then install jelly bean rom . To install official jelly bean 4.1.2 , you dont need to root your atrix 2. I have tried this rom and its good.
and if you want to try 4.3 rom then you should try PA 4.3, it is good.
your second answer about rooting- I used swapper method for rooting because one click root method did not work for me.
3rd answer- Yes you can multiboot your atrix 2 for that you install BMM ( boot menu manager ) ... hope it help

How many times are you going to ask this question? Do a little bit of reading for yourself and you will find that the bootloader is not unlockable. Also, if the op of the ROM says to install gapps, then install gapps. Just follow the directions, it's that simple.
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.
