[Q] DVD/CD Drive in Galaxy Tab 2 7"? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I was wondering if a DVD/CD drive can be connected to the USB OTG adapter? I know that keyboards, mouses, pen drives and even hard drives are supported.
I will try to borrow one DVD/CD drive to see if it works. But would be nice to know. I saw the different threads that talk about this but none for tab 2. Even I guess would be similar for all android devices.

I believe only the Asus tf300 could do that but there is no stable app for running the DVD, Google it

Keyboard and mouse options?

Can we get a thread going for supported keyboard and mice for the various roms that are available.
I know the MS natural works in VEGAN MOD, but what about the others. I am running TNT 4.2.2 and 2 logitechs, 1 MS are not recognized.
Keyboard - WITGlobal.com keyboard + case
Mouse - ASUS ROG 3000DPI (too sensitive though) and Dell crappy mouse
They work perfectly well. Also, if you didn't see in the Android Development section, USB hubs work so you can plug mouse and keyboard in at the same time for some Quake 3 gaming
This would be more appropriate in the G-Tab Accessories forum than general. It will just get lost in here.
Just sayin'...
Good idea Mods, please move this to accessories.

Logitech G-15, been working since 4.0 release of TnT Lite, dunno about any others.
Your G-15 worked? i didn't even get lights when connected. Even connected while Gtab was hooked to adapter.
Might have to play around some more on that one.
I have one of those old apple keyboards working and the extra USB ports on it work as well so you can plug a mouse or flash drive as well.

Microsoft BT 5000 bluetooth mouse
I have a Logitech that works with Vegan. It's not with me now so I'll edit my post later with the model number.
ETA: The keyboard is a NetPlay, model number Y-UC29.

it is a 3 year old g15 so perhaps adifferent revision?
I can confirm, I have a 3+ year old G15 that works as well, but it will sometimes shutdown my device when I disconnect it.

1 - I do; that's a flame war here, read the various threads and deside for yourself.
2 - Look at the threads for 3G dongle. I suggest Roach's Prime ROM.
3 - AFAIK USB sticks and externals should work but I have none to try. File system support could vary by kernel.
4 - ???
5 - Google it and search this forum.

There have been some issues reported here but I think mostly ealier builds; mine drained at about 10%/hour yesterday with prolonged typing and has been drained to 2% on several occasions. Works for me, although I've heard it's not good to drain all the way for overall battery life, so I rarly do.

USB connection, not read as usb 2.0?

Hey guys, i recently got the galaxy tab 2 7.0, when i plug it into my computer, its not read as usb 2.0
why is that?
i've even tried plugging it into the back of my computer, and my laptop.
i've had many samsung phones, sg2, nexus, tablet 10.1, and 8.9
also have kies software..
why is it seen as usb 1.0?.. transferring things is so slow
help please
There's already a thread on this here, or possibly at...another site. But pretty sure it's in one of these Tab 2 forums. I'm too lazy this morning to find it for you, though.

[Q] USB Ethernet Compatibility?

My workplace doesn't allow wifi, so I need to use Ethernet. My trusty Cisco USB300M that I was using on my Transformer Prime doesn't seem to work. Maybe because of the included microusb adapter?
Anyone try getting Ethernet to work on this tablet? Thanks!
Everything else I've thrown at the OTG adapter seems to work, so maybe it's driver? Too bad.
Guess I'm going to have to look at the Transformer Infinity.

Try this
or the apple one. It worked for most tablets.
from bobjgear's web page
"Samsung and ACER Brand manufacturers have not enabled Android's wired Ethernet support in their Android releases, so these Brand Tablets can not used with any wired internet adapter. "
Although since the a510 and a700 are pretty new, things might of changed. be worth a try if someone had one kicking around, but since your cisco didnt work, i doubt it.
I've been using Foxfi / PDA net combo at my non-wifi work. Not sure if that would work for you.
I've only had flash drives, hard drives, and a mouse and keyboard. Good luck on Ethernet.

USB Ethernet Adapter

I remember reading about some people using USB Ethernet adapters (for wired LAN connection) with their Primes and Prime Docks. Has anyone tested them with the Infinity and the Infinity Dock?
I would like to find a really good one that hopefully will work now, and continue to work in the future with jellybean when it is pushed out.
Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!
I just realized the Infinity needs to be rooted for this to work so I'm guessing it will be a while before we have confirmation on this...
Not necessarily, since the Infinity has root access already (DebugFS method, either by hand or automated). You're possibly referring to the as of yet still locked bootloader, but that doesn't make a difference in this respect, I think.
I do not have any ethernet adapters nor have I ever used one, but someone more knowledgeable on the subject may chime in.
It's funny you ask. Just tested that today with the same Apple USB->Ethernet adapter that I used on the TF101 - it works fine.
You do not need to be rooted- it's built into ICS now - the ethernet icon will appear on the taskbar and in the setup screens when you connect the USB->Ethernet adapter.

Thanks for the info! Can you please post a link to the Apple USB to Ethernet adapter, or at least the exact brand/model/part number so I can find it via Google?
With access to the kernel source it should be possible to compile additional modules to support more adapters. I'll check the default configuration and see what's supported by default. Or you could check the Prime/TF300 forums. Whatever works on that one most likely works with the TF700 as well.

Here is a link to the Apple USB->Ethernet adapter that I have tested and have confirmed to work:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0351619
It's not cheap @ $30 (it's Apple, what did you expect!), but it works and is built well.
I do have another cheaper USB->Ethernet adapter as well (from DealExtreme or something) - let me see if I can find it to test it as well. I'll report back.
EDIT: Ok, found the $7.99 USB->Ethernet adapter from DealExtreme and tested it - it works perfectly as well (and it *alot* cheaper). Only problem is that DealExremes service sucks! It took months to get to me (which is why I bought the Apple adapter at a local store in the meantime)....
Hell - if you want, hit me up and I'll sell you the DealExtreme adapter (I have no use for it). It would be whatever I paid for it (still in packaging except when I tested it) - $7.99 + shipping (I'll have to look it up to see what I paid for shipping).
Here's a link to it regardless:

Hope that helps!

I can confirm that the standard, ASUS USB Kit for Eee Pad Transformer TF101, TF101G, TF201 & TF300, works with at least one USB to Ethernet adapter. Just got both adapters in from amazon and they work perfectly, just plug and play. The Ethernet adapter is the, Belkin F4U047-RS USB 2.0 Ethernet Adapter 10/100MBPS. Speeds pretty much doubled compared to wifi. Since I'm a new member they won't let me post the Speedtest.net results.
Just took a chance and ordered this unit:
http://www.amazon.com/Ethernet-Adapter-Android-Tablets-Windows/dp/B007RTACDM/
Based on reviews, it's worked with other multiple Android devices including a TF300. And the packaging specifically mentions compatibility with Asus docks. I'll update when it arrives.
That adapter should work fine since it's based on the ASIX AX88772 chipset which has the driver included in the kernel.
In fact, that's the same chipset used in the adapter from DealExtreme/DX, so the items are almost identical, although it looks like the DX one has a LED indicator while this one doesn't.
Once in a while, the kernel developers actually list a few of the adapters which should work with a specific driver instead of only mentioning the chipset which the drivers supports.
I took a look at the drivers built in to the stock TF700 kernel and checked the source and found that all of these adapters should be supported:
* Aten UC210T
* ASIX AX88172
* Billionton Systems, USB2AR
* Buffalo LUA-U2-KTX
* Corega FEther USB2-TX
* D-Link DUB-E100
* Hawking UF200
* Linksys USB200M
* Netgear FA120
* Sitecom LN-029
* Intellinet USB 2.0 Ethernet
* ST Lab USB 2.0 Ethernet
* TrendNet TU2-ET100
* Dell Wireless 5530 HSPA
* Ericsson PipeRider (all variants)
* Ericsson Mobile Broadband Module (all variants)
* Motorola (DM100 and SB4100)
* Broadcom Cable Modem (reference design)
* Toshiba (PCX1100U and F35

Following up on my post here, the adapter I received works completely. MUCH faster than WiFi. Can't complain for $17. I'll be using this at home, from now on.

I seriously doubt that you will get the ethernet port working if it doesn't already. There is no easy way to "install the drivers" - it would require a custom kernel, etc... If you need UBS->Ethernet, I'd suggest buying a known-working USB->ethernet adapter
The Apple USB->Ethernet adapter works fine (is expensive, but can probably be found in a retail store).

Do a dmesg and see if you can figure out the chipset used (or dig through the drivers included), maybe we can compile a kernel module for it if the chipset is supported by Linux (kernel v2.6.39.4).

This one does work, tested yesterday. It costs a little more but it is slimmer and looks nicer than some of the generics.
