Hi guys,
How to check which bootloader i have? I got it from ebay, had already been updated to jb, dont know if it came like that from company or not. Use asus unlock apk to unlock the bootloader.
I'm asking because I want to install TWRP and root it and install custom rom...I'm reading guides and im a bit lost about jb and non-jb bootloaders and stuff.
I'm not new to flashing as im still using galaxy s and you know Samsung support sucked hard on that one.
Thanks!
If you had JB from stock, you have JB bootloader

the official upgrade is gonna arrive next month and i am going to upgrade my phone. i unlocked my phone using HTCdev unlock and got it rooted using superoneclick.Nothing else. But since the update would require a locked bootloader i had some doubts?
1. if i relock my bootloader using HTCdev then i will only loose root but not mess up my phone right?
2. and even if i do relock my phone, will i be eligible for the upgrade? or will it get stuck in a bootloop?
its only rooted no custon roms installed no nothing. i just hope i don't have to go through the RUU process for (to be eligible for OTA update) because its a bit daunting.
thanks for your replies and hope this hasnt been asked before
id also like to know how to avail official ics update.. and also how go back to original rom.. im on sense 3 custom rom..
I just received my TF300 and ASUS is asking me to update.
I'm currently running 2.6.39.4. Can you hack the lastest update?
I want to install CM. Can't wait.
And is worth hacking? Asus' UI replacement doesn't seem as terrible as my last device, a Droid 2.
(And since my phone broke and the replacement has a locked bootloader, I'm going to buy an S3 since MotorBlur is ****ing horrifying).

as this question has been asked over and over again.
Can you root without unlocked bootloader?
Yes. I rooted with an outdated root method, so i'm not sure which method you need to use with the software you currently have. The info is there, you just have to sort through it.

This method appears to work with any firmware. I rooted from 9.4.3.29 with no problems.
2.6.39.4 is the kernel ID, not the firmware
Hello!
I bought a Transformer Tf700 the other day and stupid as I was ( It seems ) updated it to JB before unlocking the bootloader and rooting the device.
So I have been searching around the forums, but it seems that there is no way to actually Root a JB device that did not unlock the bootloader in beforehand.
So my question is can I root&unlock the device?
The guides I have read only tells me that I can only root & unlock from ICS and to Downgrade to ICS ( from my understanding ) I need to have the bootloader unlocked... Witch makes this a vicious circle, so from what I have read its not possible to downgrade to ICS with out unlocking bootloader. And I can only unlock the bootloader on ICS.
So does anyone know away that I have missed? Or is it just happy waiting time for me ?
Best regards
Zibbr.
You still have to downgrade, but you don't need to be unlocked. Just download the .30 firmware, pop it on an SD and it will notify you to downgrade. Also, the unlock tool still works on JB if you still wish to unlock.
I recently bricked my device and had to do this, so it's certainly possible. I'm not unlocked just yet, but people say the unlock tool does work.
EDIT: I just used the Unlock Tool and can confirm that it works with Jelly Bean just fine...now to hope I don't regret unlocking!
Hi I'm somewhat an android noob. I owned a moto droid back a few years then I had an iPhone and forgot a lot about android and a lot has changed since then. I now have the galaxy s3 and I love it. I have it rooted and have clockwork recovery installed. My question is that to install custom roms I know you need to have an unlocked bootloader. How do I unlock it on 4.1.1? It seems that most information I find gives details for earlier versions of android then what I have and I don't want to do something incorrectly and mess up my phone. Any help would be great. Thanks.
Edit: Nvm I found a zip to flash to unlock the bootloader. Thread can be deleted.
I am thinking of getting an S6 and i wanted a rootable phone. i see a root method available but no bootloader unlock and yet i see ROMs available. how does this work. i thought bootloader needed to be unlocked in order to do custom ROMs. Or is htere a verizon bootloader unlock available i could not find?

There is not and 99% chance there will never be a bootloader unlock. Root method no longer works in later versions of android. The bootloader does not need to be unlocked with a custom recovery.
I apologize for not diligently searching as I should, I came across this asking the same more or less as I was.... I have one sitting on lrx22g.g920vvru1a0c3 which if I read the root method correctly I can root... At that point you say that the boot loader doesn't need to be unlocked so I can ( mfastboot flash recover xxxx.IMG ) on a locked boot loader? Or use rashr ? And after which we can ROM it?... Could I then theme it as well? I am coming for Motorola's all I've ever had/used/touched ever.... Running stock do I need to deodex it to be able to theme it? Do we have firmware out there n a tool (like Moto's rsd lite/ house of moto) to flash it with? With unlimited data is there a mobile hotspot mod/hack use utilize the baked I hotspot app? Can I still pull system apps theme um zip um and flash up.... Not having the Sim card yet I can really play with it as I wish to ... I just powered it on and its asking for an update... So I figured it'd try to root it now as there's no unlock for it..... Thank you kindly for your time and information
OE2 is the latest firmware that is rootable. Once rooted, you can flash a custom recovery and load roms through that.
There is a rooted S6 available for sale on swappa right now, just so you know
