[Q] Help with installing new ROM, phone stuck on boot loop - General Questions and Answers

I own a HTC Explorer. I rooted it a few months back. This is the tutorial I used (just for your reference) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415223
I have not used the factory reset option yet but somehow, when I restarted my phone today it got stuck in boot loop. Can anyone suggest a good ROM which is the closest to the stock ROM? It should just be closest to the stock ROM as I don't care for any extra feature, just the basic functionality of the phone. Also link me the tutorial that I should refer to when doing this. If it is the same one that I used for rooting, let me know what's different that I must do since I know that some steps will be different cause I'm installing a new ROM and previous tutorial I used was only to root the phone.
Thank you. Ill be getting online back in 8-9 hours so if you need any details regarding the phone I shall be able to do it then.

[Q] Htc Sensation on bootloop. Please help

So i am a newbie on rooting and everything related.
and i rooted my phone got it on super cid and tried out a couple of custom roms to which ones i liked best for my liking.
The last custom rom i had was the hypernonsense 1.4
and when i was putting that on my phone. the guide told me to delete the file "android" afterwards. so.. i dont know if that has anything to do with it.
and i think i change the kernel or something on it too as it told me to do.
Everything was going good until i tried to put my phone in recovery from my backup on clockwordmod.
then it just stays on constant bootloop.
If someone can give me easy instructions on how to fix this problem. id greatly appreciate it.
You can try putting it into download mode, then flash a stock ROM. Otherwise you can look for a solution in the Sensation's forum.

ROM Help

I have rooted my n8013, but every time I try to install a rom it "freezes". I purchased ROM Manager, but whenever I check the download roms there is on a small section with nightlies...I thought for $6 I would get a list of all available roms...was I wrong?
I did download Android Revolution 9.0 and CM 10.2, I added them to my tablet, I disconnected the tablet from the PC. I then booted to recovery with ROM Manager. I managed to get Android Revolution to the point of installing google apps, but it froze, I couldn't click anything or do anything. I tried to redownload and reinstall it on the tablet but it just freezes at random points in the installation.
I have tried to install CM 10.2...twice and both times it just sits at CyanogenMod loop (Blue circle with 2 spinning "wheels" going in opposite directions). I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but this is the hardest time I have ever had rooting & installing a rom. I am no pro and I don't understand all of the lingo, could someone please either help me, or point me to a step by step guide?
Thanks!

I followed this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIYiXzcW7xs
I then followed this guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102677 for the recovery.
Now I have actually managed to get CM 10.2 to work, but I cannot figure out the Gapps. I downloaded them to my pc and tried to put them on the tablet but there is no program that can open them (or so the tablet says). I could go poking around, but I don't want to break anything so I figured I would just wait for a response.
I was actually debating on doing a complete wipe and starting back at square 1. Then following this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZKGWN-TQE0 But that just seems like to much work, I have a feeling I am very close to being done and I and want to start all over.
I wanted to get Revolution to work but it wants to fight with me so whatever.

Did you read the special notes in the Revolution HD rom site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119547 In the you need section it says that you need the Custom recovery by "High On Android" Then there is a section on the same page that tells you how to flash. You need to follow the directions exactly.
Don't know if you know this but the directions on the 1st video put the CWM recovery on the tablet and then when you did the 2nd video you over wrote that CWM recovery that Revolution HD is compatible with and the one you installed is not recommended by Revolution HD.
I had Revolution HD on when I was rooted and I liked it....... If it were me...... I would return to factory rom........ then follow the exact directions in the first video........
Then follow the directions on the Revolution HD site link I sent you.
Curious......... why are you rooting? What do you want that factory rom does not have?

The reason I want to root is because..well..I want to learn. I cannot learn just by reading, I have to do hands on..I have to actually try it before I can learn it. I am so fascinated by tablets and android that I could sit here tinker and poking around for hours. Another reason I want to root is because I have read that rooting can improve battery life, and that samsungs touch wiz is "buggy". I have noticed that at times things don't seem to work as they should be (buggy, glitchy, choppy).
I was unaware that I flashed over cwm. How do I return it to factory rom and start all over?
Thanks for the help btw, I really appreciate it.

I followed his guide on how to unroot. I made it to step 9 before it said that it had failed. Once I tried to reboot the tablet it said
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issues. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I downloaded Kies but it wouldn't connect to the tablet.
I did find this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311507
I am stopping before I break it even further. Any advice?

Big big problem with that is you are far more likely to end up with a brick .
As the posts shows you are not hands on as you have failed to read the instructions and have to resort to asking users to tell you what those instructions you failed to read are .
Rooting cannot improve battery life .

What firmware number did you download and what country do you reside.
Are you using an official Samsung data charging cable and did you purchase the tablet new?
Are you using a usb extension cable?
Can you get into recovery or download mode?
When you plug the tablet into your computer is it recognized?

First, from my research that was just a Soft Brick..so not a big big problem.
Second hands on means you learn as you go..I am learning as I go, trial and error. Some people learn better by reading, some people learn better by doing. I am the one who learns better by doing. I have rooted a few other tablets with zero issues. I managed to figure out what was wrong BY MY SELF....trial and error. So your statement about me having to resort to asking users to tell me what those instructions are, I followed the instructions on how to unroot...they are what caused me to soft brick.
According to Mike1986 at this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119547
In the ROM Details, it says Excellent Battery Life.
According to http://www.droidviews.com/install-android-revolution-hd-rom-on-omega-rom-on-galaxy-note-10-1-gt-n8000n8010n8013/
As for the battery life, it is far better that what you get with stock ROM on your Note 10.1.

I managed to figure out what the problem was. The firmware link that is posted by Max is for the galaxy note 2. I am not sure if thats just old or what. I went to samfirmware and I downloaded one and I reset the tablet to factory setting.
First I want to thank you kkretch for all of your help, I am a amateur, learning what all the lingo means. I am not sure if the other poster just knew everything about tablets without having problems or not. But I know that I have had no issues except this time..no biggie just learning is all (imo).
I did want to ask you. Beings I am unrooted can I follow this tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZKGWN-TQE0 or should I follow Max's tutorial on how to root and then follow this guide?

There is a bad link in the printed directions but you should always go directly to samfirmware for the latest firmware updates.
I hope you know that you nearly bricked your device, it is a must to read and follow directions that are posted exactly.
I hope you know that CM 10.2 will take away S-Pen function.
Max has ROM reviews on his site for most of the popular ones.
As your just starting I would stick with videos that show you how to install roms for your specific device. And if you choose to root again after you do so the next step would be to do a full backup in CWM recovery to a microsd card so if you run into problems you can always restore back to that point.
Good luck

I was actually looking at some of those roms, and I checked through Max's videos, he did reviews of them but doesn't show how to install them. This is where I got confused. I would love to find a tutorial that goes step by step through it. I also did have CM 10.2 on the tablet, I was still able to use the pen. Which is all I really want, I bought the note 10.1 for the specs (2gb of ram). As for the pen, I pretty much just use it for drawing and for selecting small fonts and links.
The 2nd video I posted seems very easy, I just don't know if I need to follow Max's root first, or if I can just follow the 2nd video from start to finish. I am thinking that I need to root again, and then follow the 2nd video.
Do you have a rom that you recommend? and a video tutorial that I should follow?

You are on your own....... I'm not making any recommendations. I have rooted and unrooted many times but I keep going back to stock and that is were I'm staying. lately I have seen a bunch of post like yours with rooting problem and bricking or soft bricking.
If you still want to install a custom ROM your better off going to each roms page under Galaxy Note 10.1 Android Development and read up on them.
Good luck.

[Q] Install 4.2.2 official google ROM on HTC One 802w

First off, I'd like to say thank you in advance for any help I receive. I'm not an expert by any means at this - I would consider myself amateur at best!
I'm fairly desperate at this point - I've been trying for days to solve this myself by following various tutorials and forums, but have had no luck, so I'm really hoping someone here is willing to help me out!
What I've been trying to do:
Install official Google 4.2.2 Jellybean on HTC One 802w Dual sim model.
Current State of phone:
The phone is currently rooted and has clockwork mod installed and SuperSu 1.65 and has moonshine installed. However, I've had absolutely no luck in finding or flashing a 4.2.2 ROM onto the phone. I cannot find a ROM to match the phone - all the zips I download from this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43177948&postcount=369 say that they're corrupted and can't be copied to the phone or extracted. I find this really weird as I've checked the MD5 with HashCalc and they match. I have searched around other sites but cannot for the life of me find a ROM that works.
If it isn't possible to install the official Google ROM, I would be ecstatic if someone were to guide me through the process of restoring the phone to a complete factory state. I downloaded a supposed recovery img file for this phone, however it doesn't seem to work, so I flashed clockwork back on instead.
If anyone can help me with either of these things, I would be EXTREMELY grateful - I've reached a point where I'm at a complete loss on what to do.
Thank you very much for your time

you wont be able to flash a stock Google Rom onto an 802W.

Dear Scott,
I was looking for a way to install a Google Play Edition on my HTC One 802w when I stumbled upon your post.
Although I cannot help you with your primary goal, as I have not found a way to do it myself, I think you may have a chance to get your phone back to work installing an alternative ROM.
I have a MaximusHD (http://llabtoofer.com/2013/07/23/htc-one-dual-sim-maximushd/) running on my phone, and it is pretty customizable; but it is not a stock ROM.
I hope my advice will be of some use for you.
If you find a way to flash a Google Edition ROM on the 802w, please, post it for us here.
Good luck!
Me too, looking for alternative custom ROM for this model. I had to buy this model which comes from China Unicom which is not sold in my country (Malaysia) because i really need a good dual sim phone. I read thru the Maximus HD had some issues with dropped calls and Bluetooth connection sometimes not stable. Is there other custom ROM out there that I can try? Really hate all these chinese apps taking up space on this phone.

[Q] I messed up, and I have no idea what I got myself into. (Returning to stock FW)

I decided today to read a few guides and watch some videos on how to root my HTC One M8 w/ Harman audio. So I successfully rooted it, and installed Carbon Rom. At first things went well, and to make a long story short, I would REALLY like to revert back to my original firmware. All bloatware included, I dont care. I really have no idea what I'm doing with any of this, and the internet keeps bringing me here to find solutions so I figured I would post my question. Currently I'm downloading an RUU with hopes that it will magically fix everything (file name: RUU_M8_WHL_K444_SENSE60_SPCS_MR_Sprint_WWE_Harman_3.30.654.2_R_Radio_1.08.20.0916_NV_SPCS_1.52_003_release_395175_signed_2 (1).exe)
If anyone could please just give me some sort of direction on reverting back to the normal firmware, I would be IMMENSELY appreciative.
Tried running RUU. Made it worse. Now it's stuck at the carbon boot splash. Cant even take out the battery. I have no idea what to do now, goodnight.
You might start by checking this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
There are instructions on how to get into recovery and download the stock firmware, based on the results returned from running certain fastboot commands.
Please keep in mind that I don't have the M8, nor have I tried the steps mentioned, so this is entirely at your own risk.
Good luck!

GT-N8000 downgrade and no update.

I've been using Gnabo v_7 version for quite a long time, and a very simple and beautiful day when I woke up my Samsung GT-N8000 was stuck on bootscreen. I wasn't able to do much so I got this "Brazil stock rom" that I found in a website, and it flashed all right, except for the detail that there is something at the screen that I haven't got a bloody clue how to remove. hahaha
And still, whenever I try to install another room, I got stuck at bootlogo and so on. I'm kinda lost here, mind a little help?
I traveled around the forum but well, I'm a little dumb so I couldn't find any proper information about, how to solve this. I would like to know if there is a way to remove this thing from the main screen, and post here the image for you guys to see it please.
I tried to post the image here to make it easier understanding, but since I got this login recently I can't =\
Thanks
Install custom recovery (if you haven't already. If you already have it installed, make sure to update to latest version), root device, wipe everything and flash custom ROM.

So far I've tried the rom = N8000XXUDNE4 [still bootloop], then another 4.1 android version of other German rom XXALGA and nothing. Downloaded 3 Brazilian versions, and nothing. [I am from Brazil]. The only one that worked flashing using Odin was one called "KIES_HOME_N8000UBALGA_N8000ZTOALG3_N8000UBLG5.tar". And still, not recognizing my cellphone chip, and with some big watermark at the middle of the screen showing some information about the ROM and the version is 4.0. Even though this one worked fine, I was able to root and when I tried to flash another room, BANG! Bootloop again! =\
I was looking at the forum topics and I read some about ADB or something like that can fix this and "break" this bootloop making the device work normally again with the roms. But i haven't got a clue how to use it. Please help me! =\

You can use ADB to push/pull files to Android. I don't know if you can use it to fix bootloop. With it, you can also reboot to recovery and sideload zip

Well, after 2 days of research and paying attention on things here, I found out that my problem is "/EFS error". Meaning to use ADB to recover or fix it? But I don't know how to use this. I've downloaded 3GB of it but I was lost about using, and uninstalled. Is is there any short or better version and some good tutorial about using to retrieve my EFS so I can install another roms? I'm using original stock rom now, Brazilian android 4.0 and that's the only only the device is working fine but of course missing things as my cellphone card and the yellow message at the top of the screen. Please guide me through ADB.
P.s Is there a way to create /efs or something like so the device work properly? Cause I've deleted when I installed some rom, and I have no backup here. =\
Thanks!
