Keyboard lag - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Is it just my phone or does everyone elses stock keyboard suck. I literally just reset my phone and typing in the google user info on the phone setup was the most painful thing i have ever done in my life. Then when i go and load the JB stock keyboard, the phone freaks out and their is constantly a notification in my status bar asking what input method I want to use. I CLEARLY PICK THE JB KEYBOARD, LEAVE ME ALONE!
Sorry, it just fills me with anger that someone would give the go ahead to release this to the public.

I don't too many people who use stock keyboard, there's a million better options.

Yea the Samsung keyboard lags ridiculously, I use the android 4.2 keyboard. works great, and can fly txting with the swiping actions.

I use PERFECT KEYBOARD. Free in the Play Store. Works flawlessly and looks professional. Of course you'll have to go into settings>language & input>change the default keyboard to Perfect Keyboard.

The lag comes from their predictive text. Go into the settings and and turn it off and you will see ZERO LAG. Or... download another keyboard such as swiftkey (which is AWESOME!!)

Mike is right. SwiftKey is a awesome keyboard. Zero lag and the prediction is great. Probably the best keyboard out there. I paid for the app awhile back and it was well worth it. I used it on my Rezound cause of the keyboard lag and now on my s3. You'll love it.

Yes go with Android as Andy says or as I prefer Swiftkey. The keys are big enough for me to hit. There is new straight beta and Flow beta. Sign up for VIP and they email you all beta APK's.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I ended up loading AOSP 4.2.1 so its not an issue anymore. I had loaded the JB 4.2 keyboard several times and would pick it in the settings menu, but the Touchwiz roms didnt like when i didnt use their keyboard so it would constantly ask if i wanted to use a different keyboard

[Q] Slow and laggy Keyboard !

Hi all
I use 4.04 ICS DDLP5, v6 100% applied (and overclocked to 1.6Ghz)
I tried samsung keyboard, google keyboard and Swype keyboard,
but it seems that there's definitely some delay or lagging whenever I type fast, I can even hear and feel the tap/haptic delayed which I feel like some aggregated combo being tapped!
Any commends? anyone having similar issue or solutions?
I tried to turn off the XT9, but only improves a bit, I still notice the lag, just not as smooth as my old iphone 3gs..
and I also want some of the XT9 feature turned on as they are useful.
This problem is so much noticeable when I use the stock browser's URL textbox to do some search, as it tries to pre-guess words and show urls in advance..
Maybe there's some hacked solution to better utilize/prioritize the cpu and memory for this app?
btw, when I used CM9/CM10's jellybean ROM and used the their stock keyboard, it was much smoother, but it didin't have the korean keyboard included...
Many thanks
Have you gone through the Swype tutorial to see how to use it properly? If you are tapping away on it you are using it incorrectly. Using it in Swype mode it is the fastest keyboard out there bar none.

Well I use GO Keyboard ... it's pretty cool and you can get different colored themes..
but this website has some pretty good suggestions

Android 4.2 keyboard
Stock 4.2.2 with Swype-style gestures. It's very good, with just a few things niggles, e.g."I want to go too" always comes out "I want to go to", and you have to manually select "Too" from the choices. I the original Swype I think you could swirl back on to the "O" and get "Too"
Other than that it's ace. The old tap tap tap keyboard looks really old skool now. (iPhone users)
I'm using SwiftKey - it has Flow (like Swype) and also normal typing.
I tried Swype but the the suggestions are way better in SwiftKey for both languages I use (German and English)

Same here...I use SwiftKey 4, and the Flow feature is just cool.

Me too, but I have just a HTC Wildfire, which is too slow, and that's why I'll turn off the Flow (too slow, and that's why unusable.)
Which keyboard
The HTC Sense (4+) stock keyboard with swype style input and normal. I like it vey much

Cool, will give it a go, thanks

Perfect Keyboard Pro. It's fast, completely customizable (down to even adding custom backgrounds), allows you to adjust and tweak everything. It's a paid app in the playstore, but well worth it. Plus you can use keyboard skins designed for better keyboard, smart keyboard, and perfect keyboard so plenty of free skins out there.
If you like to flash custom roms and change up screen dpi, you just backup perfect keyboard settings, tweak the key height, and the keyboard adapts well in landscape and portrait (so no tablet version needed). I've tried them all, this one is my favorite all around. Swype is fast, Swiftkey is amazing, but none offer the customization of perfect.

Swift Keyboard... It comes with a flow option which is better than swype.. It costs around 100 Rupees after 1 month of free trial but worth it...
swiftkey
I have tried a ton of different keyboards, everything from 8pen to swype, stock, I finally settled on Swiftkey. I like it because it is pretty easy to customize and it has a good feel.

I hate Google keyboard

Hi folks, well the title grabbed your attention, so now my issue:
I am a long-time Swype user and loved it but my "trial period" recently ended and i'm currently refusing to pay for it because a) i'm a tight arse and b ) slightly annoyed that Swype have used me as a beta tester for years and then expect me to pay for the keyboard.
Anyway with that in mind, my wife uses Google Keyboard and raves about it as I know a few others do so I am giving it a try. Have tried Swift Key in the past but didn't get on with it and went back to Swype.
So why do I hate Google Keyboard - well it has issues on my HTC One and i'm wondering if they are handset specific, if its me being stupid or if its just a poor app.... (btw I use it in "swype" mode)
1. It often doesn't auto capitalise at the start of sentences, especially when typing messages on forums etc.
2. It often doesn't auto space after a word, especially if using symbols or temporarily tapping keys to spell an unusual word.
3. If I select a wrong word and want to go back and change it later, I have to tap at the end of the word and hit the backspace key to delete the word and then type it again. On Swype I could select the word and then it gave the other similar options to change the whole word in two taps.
4. The space bar is too big and I often hit that instead of the full stop - maybe i'll get used to that though.
5. On Swype if you wanted to capitalise a letter at the start of a word i.e for a name then you slide from the first letter, off the top of the keyboard then back onto the keyboard and carry on swyping the word. Google doesn't offer anything similar that I can tell.
6. To hide the Swype keyboard I swyped from the Swype key to the backspace key and the keyboard goes. No similar option on Google keyboard.
So wanted to check on here if others have similar problems - are there ways to do things I want to do above or have I just got to like it or lump it?
Cheers guys.
#3 is the biggest pain for me and I wish there was a way to achieve the equivalent with Google Keyboard
I think you should give Swiftkey another try, they have changed quite a lot and now with the new Flow, it is on-par, even better than, Swype.
However, I do agree, the Google Keyboard is kind of wimpy compared to the other keyboards.
meh I have always loved google keyboard and samsungs keyboards, lg and htc do a terrible job with the keyboards.
Try go launcher keyboard too . It ll also be nice.....

Like people have said, give swiftkey another try. They (finally) removed that stupid ".com" button from the url bar...
me too
I hate google Keyboard too i use swift key

dito...
You always have the option of sending an angry email and demanding them to give Swype to you...
You guys should try Keymonk and TouchPal keyboards, they are quite good.
Does anyone know if I can delete a whole word with Google keyboard in simple tap mode? Other keyboards have implemented this using a swipe gesture like press delete and swipe to left.
I use A.I type keyboard, love the features and custom keyboards it has
My device:
Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (rooted)
Rom:AOSP (4.4.2)
Carrier:At&t
Dont forget to thank me if i helped

Stock keyboard is terrible

I have been a long time Swiftkey user, agter trying out just about everyone many years ago. Well Swiftkey has a known glitch that causes it to resize to the default medium. So I have been using the stock keyboard and I cannot believe how bad the autocorrect is. I have tried all three settings too amd I see no difference.
Lol there were 15 typos in the short message above. So now I have to search again for that keyboard that just works.

Gboard. What more could you ever ask for.
Yeah ivwas going to start with gboard. I have used it and it was ok.
Garbage keyboard
Yeah the stock keyboard is terrible. It will take you twice as long to type anything. Switched to Gboard and it was immediately better, like much much better.
After I installed Gboard I noticed a drop in battery life and when I checked how battery stats I saw that Gboard had 35% . Not sure why.
Been using Gboard since abondoning stock keyboard. It's pretty good, but I like Swiftkey more. Just what you are used to more than anything. In a few months I'm sure I'll be saying Gboard is so much better than Swiftkey.
No battery drain from Gboard either
I've used SwiftKey and never had it default to the medium size. It always stays on small.
SwiftKey is the best app. Period. Mine keeps larged size.

Long time iPhone user here. What i noticed on the G7 gboard auto correct strange behavior... say you mispell a word, then go back and select an auto-correct word it recommends, and then say you want to go back and change the last letter on (the corrected) word, it will revert BACK to the original typo/mistake word you originally wrote!! It's super annoying.. have found the clipboard and other features really useful on Swiftkey, and never had the sizing keyboard glitch u speak of...
Maybe it's time to update Swiftkey and start using it again. Gboard is ok, the scrolling feature of th space bar is it's best feature, but I still prefer Swiftkey
Auto-correct
"it will revert BACK to the original typo/mistake word you originally wrote!!"
I have basically given up trying to figure this out. My samsung autocorrect was SOOOO much better. LG are you listening?
And while you are at it, is there some way you can change your keyboard sensitivity settings, so that big fingered people like me aren't constantly getting an 'r' when they hit 't'. Isn't there some way to make the center of the key more sensitive to a strike than the edge? That should ensure that even if i'm slightly off center on the 't' I won't get an 'r'.
Many thanks. I am a good piano player and fairly dexterous, but this keyboard is the ONLY thing I HATE about my LG. Otherwise I think it is my best smartphone (HTC, Samsung G2, Note4; now LG. Had the Dare a long long time ago, so it's been a happy homecoming.) Please keep me happy!
I love the stock keyboard. It looks beautiful and works normal for me. Swiftkey board is ugly and that suggestion bar which cant be disabled is a nightmare. Gboard is good but ugly too.

Which keyboard to use

Hi Guys,
My second post today.
I am using GBoard but noticed 2 pesky bugs: 1. When typing long messages, for example, in this forum, the keyboard stuck for a minute. Completely stuck and then goes back to normal 2. The correction suggestion is not good at all, sometimes I type a wrong word and it suggests the same wrong word in the correction suggestions which is confusing as it should only display the correct one.
Have any of you experience this?
Also, is there a decent alternative to GBoard? I was always using Samsung's own keyboard but it is not good in HK version so had to switch to GBoard.
I use Swiftkey beta

Yes, sometimes I can't see what I'am typing. It is seems like bug or something but somebody said it is maybe connection with the high refrest rate.
I've used virtually the same Samsung keyboard for 6 years.
Find it very distracting to try to migrate even the colors/shades let alone layout.
I use Samsung themes that support that keyboard look I like.
I also "shop" themes for the theme I like for the phone and texting. Everything else I custom load after those ie icon pack and wallpaper.
Google apps run good, then Google improves them, then Google ruins them.
It's Google's nature.
I have zero faith in Google; Google taught me this time and time again.

I can recommend SwiftKey, works perfectly and we even get a custom Samsung theme only made for us.
I'm using Samsung′s one because it's the only one that supports Your Phone. Plus with keys café it's fully customizable, especially the layout.
SwiftKey, I recommend it every time. If there's a word that is incorrect you can simply long it and remove it from the prediction list.
Customize it to your liking.
My go to customizations: long-press duration mine set to 171
Vibration 2ms, sound off, choode one or create your own theme, size and location, cursor control
Thanks a lot, everyone! Very helpful!
I installed Swiftkey but didn't like it.
After searching play store I ended up installing Yandex Keyboard that looks very much like Samsung Keyboard. Like it so far.
I liked the Gboard Keyboard. It supports local langauage typing as well as one can use the spen to wrtie in local langauage.
Also the Voice support is good.
Still using Swype here. Love it and restore onto every phone using titanium backup.

Me too ;-)
Tried now a couple of weeks Swiftkey, but the recognition rate for "swyping" is still significantly better on Swype. Swiftkey is driving me crazy some times.
