Hi,
I'm using a Galaxy S running a froyo custom ROM.
I was wondering whether there is a way to disable the "auto lock" feature of the phone?
The display can still shutdown based on the selected screen time-out time, however, the phone should stay without getting auto locked, unless its explicitly locked.
Ideally, it should be like in the Nokia 5800, where the screen switches off after the given number of seconds, however the phone stays unlocked (unless its locked using the hardware button) and the display comes on when the screen is tapped/touched.....
Is there any way something similar could be done with Android?
Thanks in advance,
Look for an app in the market called No Lock. One click on the app toggles the auto-lock on/off and it's auto-loaded every time the phone boots up. Couldn't be easier simpler.
Thanks for the reply.
Actually, I'm using "no lock" at the moment.... What I'm ideally looking for is a way to bring the screen alive just by tapping on the screen. Even eith "no lock" still you need to press one of the hardware buttons to awaken the screen....
Maybe this is not possible in Android ?
I don't think it is...
But even if it was possible, why would you want it? It'd get triggered so often any time you brushed up against it, wasting battery and launching apps while in your pocket or something.
try Extended control
I also need an app or a tweak or something that let me set the screen timeout, withOUT autolocking, but also withOUT disabling the lockscreen, so when I press the side buttons the phone locks.
I've been searching for days with no luck. Any help, please?
hi all
ive checked alot of forums and threads and cant seem to get a 100% answer.
i love my defy, however since its got a physical button on top that turns on the unit, and then to turn off the screen u click it again. simple
it may sound picky, but i dont want to click the power button to turn off, also i dont wanna wear out the power button.
ive tried plenty of apps that do "screen off" function however they just lock the defy instead of turning off the screen.
just wanted to know is it possible to have no lock screen for android?
ive found a good app called "invisible lock widget" which is a hidden icon that u click to lock. is it possible to make it just turn off screen.
or does anyone have suggestions please???
Btw this probably should be in general . .. .
Froyo's 'slide to unlock screen' cant be turned off easily from a settings option.
Anywho, the way around it is this https://market.android.com/details?id=org.jraf.android.nolock.
"No Lock", which can be found in Market, can disable the lock screen.
I'm using a Chinese app 一键锁屏, which can turn off the screen by a tap on the icon. But it requires root.
I use "No Lock", works great
thanks all
thanks all for your replies.
i have tried "no lock" before i posted this thread. ive tried alot of those no lock screen apps and none of them do what i want.
when i use no lock, it just stops me from using any app that can turn off screen.
well, i guess there cant be much done.
if anyone else has any advice it would be much appreciated, other wise thank you all.
I'm not sure I've read this thread correctly but I'm quite happy for the screen to time out and turn off the screen, but I don't want to have to swipe to turn it back on. pressing the power button should be the only action. to revive the homescreen.
would no lock achieve this?

the thing i want to do is make it so that i can turn off my phone with an icon instead of using the power button. i found apps to do that however they dont turn off my screen, instead they lock my phone so the screen is still on but locked.
i just want it to turn off as if i was using my power button.
"no lock" app stops my phone from going into lock screen at all, however it stops all the other apps from functioning.
maybe if i could change the time that the lock screen stays on would be good enough for me.

When the screen is turned off, most apps will be stopped by design of the android system. Do you mean "no lock" turns off screen and some apps which the power button doesn't? Can you name some of these apps?

sorry, when i mean stop functioning. im talking about the other screen off apps.
when i have "no lock" activated it stops the screen off apps from working.
basically i just wanna do turn off the screen of the phone just like i do when i click the power button but have the option to use an app.
but from what ive read other androids like sgs it works fine yet for my defy it doesnt.
does anyone else have that problem?
is there anyway to calibrate the screen? im having some calibration issues with my g2x and restarting the phone doesnt help!
I just looked through the hidden menu list. I don't see anything about calibration.
Out of my last three phones that had touch screens, Ascend, Evo, and Indulge, It seems like only one had a calibrate screen option, so I don't think it's real common.
What problems are you having? I've noticed a lot of times with my G2X that when I push a link, it highlights right above it. But the link still works.
I have issues as well, there are no calibration settings in Hidden Menu. Sometimes I press on the screen and it hits something else. Sometimes, I'm not even TOUCHING the phone and it will, by itself, select and enter into different apps on my screen. I thought I had a virus on this thing.
I checked around, other people are having these issues and have NO real fix for it. It has to be an SW problem. When I first started using my G2x, there were no touchscreen problems like there are now. Guess I'm gonna have to change my signature on the G2x away from "so far no issues".

Damn LG and T-Mobile really screwed the pooch with these phones. =(

I've noticed that the edge of the screen is very very sensitive. I'm constantly opening droidtv when the app drawer is open. It's right at the bottom left. My fat fingers overlap the edge enough to open it. Makes me laigh.
Also, I've set launcher pro to scroll the apps up and around like it is in the stock drawer. It cracks me up how it is so sensitive that you can open the app while the icon is scrolled up and around the corner. Even when it's two rows back and especially out of the way. Try it.
I know you said you weren't touching the phone, but maybe some of these times were when you were just holding it?
Yeah, when I'm holding the phone, the bottom of my palm near my thumb is close to the edge of the screen, and it registers as if I were pressing on the screen with my other fingers.
The screen jumping around randomly, I can't explain it. And it does happen when I'm not even touching it. I would put the phone down and watch it go, entering menus and apps and pressing all kinds of things. On one of the forums I linked, someone said to remove the battery and let it sit for a few seconds, then put it back in. So I've tried that, and so far the touchscreen isn't acting possessed anymore. This isn't a constant thing. It's just happening at random times on my phone, it's leaving me confused lol.
I've just began to run into this issue. It most apparent when using the keyboard, and switching keyboards doesn't even seem to help.
CM7 fixed the calibration and touchscreen issues long long long ago.
Hi All,
I was hoping you guy might be able to help me out.
The LG G3 is awesome, i love being able to turn the screen on and off without using any buttons.
One bit that i think could use some work is that currently, when the screen is on, you can tap the notification bar twice to turn the screen off, however, i find that this doesnt work so well all the time.
I have Nova launcher and i wanted to link a two finger swipe gesture with an app to turn the screen off however...
All the apps on the store only seem to offer you the option to turn the screen off and lock the phone immediately at the same time. Does anyone know of an app that will let me turn the screen off, but NOT lock the phone immediately, and just leave the lock settings to the system defaults.
It seems pretty straight forward but i've tried about 30 apps on the store and all of them only screen off and lock, none allow you to do it without locking the phone immediately.
Any help would be really appreciated!

Thanks for the idea. I just tried and had no joy. It can trigger an action when i turn the screen off myself, but it wont turn the screen off for me.
Any other ideas?
I feel like this is so straight forward and that i'm just being super dense - im hoping someone points something so obvious and straight forward out that i missed!

You could try an app like Button Savior. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smart.swkey.nonroot
It has the option to swipe from the side to bring up the buttons, and from what I understand, the power button on it is exactly the same action as pressing the power button on your phone. You could tweak it to try and get it to the solution you want, but I think at least the button should be what you are looking for.

My phone seems to do the same action either way. I think I know what you are talking about. It seems that on previous roms, the screen could go dark, but if I woke the phone back up it wasn't actually locked. What about this app? It seems to distinguish between the two.

Here is another one you could potentially try. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ericlpchow.screentrigger
Tried both of the above... Neither seem to work!

I use "No Lock" when I want to switch off the phone but bypass lock settings when I turn it on. Is that what you mean?

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion... The problem with that app is that the phone won't lock until I go back in and disable it... I want the phone to use the same system timeout so if I do leave my phone lying around it will lock after 3 or 5 minutes on its own.

Take this.
Note: Needs Root
Not sure it it covers your needs, but I'm using SkipLock combined with Gravity Screen
SkipLock let's you bypass the lockscreen (and pincode) when your phone is connected to either a trusted WIFI network or a trusted BT-device (carkit!).
As soon as you get home you'll turn on your screen and you the lockscreen as usual, but from that point on it's lockscreen free until it disconnects with your wifi network.
So when you turn off the screen the screen goes black, but as soon as you turn it on again you'll see either the homescreen or your last opened app.
It works really GREAT!
Gravity screen is not needed but makes it even easier. It automatically turns your screen on when you pick up the phone, and turns it off when you place it down (configurable). It also features Pocket Mode so it will turn the screen off when you put it in your pocket and on again when you take it out. Worst part was getting used to NOT press the power-button anymore

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion - i just tried the app and it has a non-root version, but that just basically turns the screen black, leaves the notification bar and navi buttons and doesnt actuall replicate pressing the power button.
I cant root my phone either as i need to use banking apps and these dont work with root.
Any other ideas?

This sounds like a cool set of apps, but I'm quite pedantic about my phone and the way it uses battery and with all the sensors working. I'm not sure its right for me, but its cool none-the-less.

Skiplock doesn't use up any battery. Gravity MIGHT, but there are options to choose that use up more or less battery.
Don't know about needing root though...
Hi, I have been looking for this too....no solution? I use the trusted places and devices to keep my phone unlocked when i am home, and when in the car (connected to bluetooth) but of course turning off the screen also locks it.
SkipLock isn't compatible with my Lollipop G3 - any solutions that work on Lollipop? I've been using Tasker but somethings it messes up things a bit so I would like to try something else
Just curious if anyone has figured out a way to make the home button not turn on the screen. Drives me crazy every time I pull the phone out of my pocket and the has turned on and some app has opened.
If you want to prevent apps from opening then enable the fingerprint scanner option. This way the phone won't be unlocked while in your pocket, and you won't have to worry about apps accidently opening.
Also, the fingerprint reader on this phone is blazing fast. It is the fastest way I've seen to unlock any Android phone from a lock screen, so honestly everyone should be using it. It's no more inconvenient than pressing the power button.
