happens to be a problem with CM10 i believe

This problem I've nicknamed the dammit dammit sunofabeach problem. It seems to only effect a handful of us when flashing anything other than a sense based Rom. I've searched, poked, prodded, yelled, bribed and done things im truly ashamed of to find a fix to this problem... No dice homie....

Its narrowed down to 2wire routers.. I've tried admin passwords that didn't help.. only other advice I got was to buy another wireless router and connect them via ethernet
Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk 2

I have found it to be far better when the SSID is broadcasted. Also sometimes enabling/disabling WPS quickly helps. or just continually trying to connect and moving around. Sense roms do not have any issues with them.

Worked for me
I had the same issues last night after doing a fresh install of CM10 using [KERNEL][12/31] rohan.kernel.b7 [Linux 3.0.57][GCC 4.7][2.0ghz][S2W][INTELLI][SIO] After a fresh flash of stock kernel the problem went away. I then REFLASHED Rohans kernel and all is well. It seems some of these phones are finikey with kernels, so if one may not work for you it may for the other guy......I am convinced this is a kernel issue, so flash and reflash and let me know the results.

Usually it connects automatically within range, its just when you want it to connect that it refuses. It also kills battery constantly trying to connect. It's a known issue between the router and AOSP roms.

I was having this probelm with my 2wire =/
Now, I don't have it.. For some odd reason. I'm running the newest build for MIUIv4 with Rohans b7. I have yet to have connectivity issues.
Try flashing my MIUIv4 and see what happens?

different type of wifi issue.... I think

Hello Everyone. I have an att one X that is having an odd wifi issue. I've googled and only found the hardware wifi issue and im pretty sure that's not what i have. I actually got this phone on a trade for a one s, when i recieved the X it alrealdy had the venom rom installed. so at first i thought that it was just maybe a bad rom flash because i looked at the rom build and it was one of the earlier versions, but i flashed cm10 and the issue is still there. The issue with my wifi is that it doesn't connect to anything even if im right next to the router. it doesn't seem to find the router and it'll constantly pickup random wifi signals and not the one i want, but regardless it will never connect. all of the info i've seen out there about the hardware problem says its a week signal problem with both wifi and Bluetooth but it'll still connect. my bluetooth also seems to be working fine. I'm on the new firmware i believe because i have to flash the boot image through fastboot in order to get a rom to load. Can it be the Kernal? i've been reading on this so such for the last two days that i think i read that the kernal must also me flashed in a different way, not straight through the recovery.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'll try and post a quick video on this issue later on
Bro.. Mr sinco and I have been fighting this issue with aosp ROMs for the last 6-8 weeks.... We've brought it up and seems to be pushed aside.. it started making me mad enough to where I'm back on sense ROMs. (Not that there's anything bad about them, I rather aosp)
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Well i think that rules me out. Because I was on the venom rom which is a sense rom. Maybe I'll try another sense rom and see if that works for me
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk 2
Hmmm sense ROMs have always been good... Maybe try to delete that ROM off of sdcard, do a clean download of cleanrom or something, and try everything fresh.. don't do a backup or anything... 100% clean install and see what happens

i too have been effected by poor wifi performance on all aosp ROMs (specifically AOSP JB rom's) rohan has asked me to provide a log at i have to do so, i just figured theres no way no one else doesnt have the issue and one of his irc buddies or someone with more knowledge would provide one...however we're months later and i still have the issue, i suppose its time i buckle down and logcat the poor man.
Thanks really hope that works. I really like this phone and it would be a shame if it was some other type of hardware issue I can't fix

Well my problem is connecting.. it can take up to 20 minutes just to latch on. Once its connected the performance OK OK, nothing to complain about but nothing to brag about either.

Which rom are you using?
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk 2
Its the router not the phone. Well kinda.... the phone(with aosp or cm installed) does not handle certain securities that some router use. I have been troubleshooting the best I can and I finally got mine to work but you need to be able to adjust router settings
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
How do I edit router settings? This happens on every aosp ROM..
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
It happened to me on every ROM I tried that wasn't a sense ROM. I ended up having to turn of DMZ and WPS. After that I got my normal download and upload speeds and it always stays connected.

Do you turn this off in the phone or the router?
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk 2
On the router. DMZ is a security subnetwork to help keep internet "things" out of your router. WPS is also on the router and helps people who have trouble connecting devices to their router to be able to just hit a button to connect. Turn them both off in the router settings.

Another question. So your phone still doesn't connect to any type of secured wifi networks with any rom period?
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk 2
Idk. I haven't test on many networks. Only home and work. Work has limited security. So it connects fine

i realize my post was far from informative...yes my issue is it not conecting as well. will try, but if you watch it, it stops and just sits at "secured, not in range" or wtf ever. After you put the password in, turn the screen off and let it sleep for a minute, i bet when you turn the screen on itll be connected (its been my only solution so far)
Well PLUKK thanks for all of the feedback. My issue is experiencing it's own unique characteristics and issues I haven't seen, but also includes some of yours. Unfortunately I haven't been able to test on any open unsecured network yet. But the thing with my phone is that it will literally be right next to the router and it sometimes won't show the router in my list of available networks but it'll show others. And all of them are secured. I've tried this at my home and my girlfriends home and here at the school I work at. I work at college so WIFi is everywhere and I've never had problems connecting before, but the issue is that it doesn't even show up on the available networks sometimes it it'll show a network I've never seen. I'll try and post a video about this issue a little later. As I know I'm probably Not getting my point across very well.
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk 2
Every router is different and each one has security set up different. That's why some you see and some you don't. It is the phones ROM causing issue BUT it can be solved by adjusting settings. Since you can't do that if the router is not yours then you can
A. Wait for a fix
B. Use a sense ROM
C. Turn off WiFi
I have tried myself for a week trying to fix my phone too but I have the know how to only do so much. Good lukk

bad wifi reception on cm10

every time i flash cm10 or any other roms base off cm10 my phone gets really bad wifi connection. the phone shows other people's wifi, but my own wifi is not showing up, if i get lucky it might show up after a long time. i dont have this problem with sense roms, it shows my wifi right away.
right now it is with sense base JB roms as well. sense base ICS roms are no problem
Happens to me as well its just something I learned to deal with if you lock it and leave the wifi on it should connect by itself and will remain connected.

WiFi on custom roms

Hello noob here, I have installed two different Roms on my at&t HTC one x akop jb 4.1 and cyanogen 10 and both don't play well with my uverse router .WiFi will not connect in either. Is there a ROM that might work. Don't really want to get a new router. Is the viper xl a ROM that might alleviate the problem or should I just stick with the stock ROM? The WiFi works fine in the stock ROM. Thanks so much for any help

If you have security enabled on the router, try a different type. For instance if WPA, try WPA2. WEP is not recommended, as its weak security, and also I think WEP is known to cause issues with this phone. Also try simply power cycling the router, if you haven't already.
Just an FYI. Cm will change your Mac address. So device specific for router will block the newly flashed cm ROM. Wep2 definitely recommended.

I'm not sure if there is a solution, your best bet would be to ask h8rift or rohan32, they are 2 of the aosp Devs, they might know a fix
The problem itself may be the router, maybe a lack of open source drivers or modules and not so much the ROMs themselves

Mines newer, that's why I asked what his looked like. I have the sleek black one, the grey one used to give me hell with my xbox, one of my laptops, and would drop signal randomly throughout the day. Just all around not very reliable. New one solved everything.
I hadn't been rooted or anything before we got the new one installed so I don't really know if I would of had the OPs problem on the old one

I'm on latest cm10.1 nightly and connecting to my 2wire router is a pain, sometimes it does it instantly, sometimes you have to wait for like 5 minutes... Really bothering me...
It just freaking stays and doesn't even try to connect... and then randomly bamm "connected" when I manually press "connect" it doesn't do **** most of the times. I had that problem back from cm10 earliest builds

Cant connect to wifi on aosp or AOKP. (4.2.2)

Not a noob but am I missing something. Never happened before but sense ROMs wifi is perfectly fine. Sucks to have these next to perfect 4.2.2 ROMs out here and I can't enjoy them. And I haven't seen anyone else reports this. It will see all the networks but when I try to connect it just cancels. Full wipes/permission fixing you name it. It just won't connect.

I'm pretty sure 2Wire routers have always had some sort of issue with AOSP. It certainly isn't the ROM, the ROM is great. It's your router. I suggest keep trying and make sure that all of your settings are correct.

The nexus 10 doesn't have problems connecting to my 2wire router, but my HOX on cm10.1 and cm10 always had and has issues connecting to it. It takes so long to connect... sometimes its fast sometimes its like 5-10 minutes. manually pressing "connect" doesn't do anything, it doesn't even try to connect and then after waiting for a while its connected. Hate this thing.
Its not the router, because on sense my phone never had issues connecting to it. Its obviously the ROM's fault for the most part.
It did all types of test with different routers. 10.1 just does play nice with 2wires. Connected flawlessly with other routers and my FiOS home router

Did you S-OFF ? I had WiFi issue with all CM build (10, 10.1) until I had it S-OFF.
The issue I was facing is that the phone can connect to WiFi but its Speed on Web Brower and Play Store is freaking SLOW (like you're on edge)(but if you test internet connection speed with SpeedTest app, it's fast as much as you can get out of your Cable connection). After I S-Off, the problem just simply disappear.
DID I s-off? Lol but yea I did but that sounds like a whole other issue that you were experiencing. Its def the type of router though.
