is mobile anti virus really needed?
is there lots of android viruses out there?
does it warrant the need for paid protection?
is something like avast helpful or a waste of space?
Generally a waste...but better safe than sorry i suppose

Antivirus in the Future
Sigh I never imagined antivirus for phones
Some guy told me in the future to expect it for TVs also
Well, phones have sophisticated software these days. It's inevitable that there would be vulnerabilities.
Most of them are exactly the same sort you see on desktops - people installing something stupid and giving it permissions they shouldn't.
The user is the largest vulnerability of all.

What is a recommended anti-virus for Android smartphones, specifically for HTC?
Thanks
None, you don't need one. Anti virus apps are superfluous and just unnecessary...

I like avast mobile not for anti virus but anti theft features.

I'm a systems admin myself and I've never believed in anti virus apparently on my phone either if you know what's going on in your phone you shouldn't need one I don't even use one on my personal computer

Don't get one. Just be cautious on what you download and install.
evo4g with strikeICS.
Same here.. I don't believe in anti-viruses on my computer (both windows and ubuntu) and neither for my android phone. Just don't visit certain virus infested websites and you should be ok..
I use eset on my pc so i know how those guys work. I recommend you their mobile av, you can always start your 30 daya free trial and see for yourself.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
you can try avg or kasper
Av are unnecessary. But look out and avast are good antivirus.

If you're rooted it can do a lil more.

I think the avast anti theft is brilliant, have to install the antivirus first though, which I deleted as don't use them, just be cautious what you install
i'm using kaspersky mobile security.. well, the anti virus might not necessary for some individual, but it has other useful features included such as track devices / block unwanted sms / phone call.. try visit KAV website and read about it
avast is OK if you are rooted you can use the firewall that should be more than you need

Me too, as a computer tech is has been my experience that antiviruses are overrated and get depended upon too much.
Still, most people are probably better off with some kind of protections.....especially the facebookers.
I have put Avast on a lot of customer's computers and used it at times myself. It seems about as good as any.
Lookout seems to be quite good

I've been happy with lookout (probably because that's what came on my phone originally). I don't really care about the antivirus, I just like the anti-theft features. You can wipe the phone, make it play a siren noise, or just check it's GPS location on their website.
Hmm.. do using antivirus slows the system down??? And how do we know f something is malicious without installing an antivirus??

Does anyone know how to make an application that will not allow Facebook to be installed? I might be interested in purchasing an application like this or making 1

If you don't want a particular app then don't install it. There's probably no way to block installation of a given app.

What he said. Is there a particular reason you want to block the installation of Facebook?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Though if you had a vendetta (and a rooted phone), you could always just put a Facebook catch-all into your hosts file to black-hole attempts to reach them. Wouldn't stop the app, would stop it from ever actually working and any website connecting there.
I think you would need to sign up for a MDM service. There a few of them out there and they should be able to either block apps from being installed or automatically uninstall it if it gets installed.

Haha sorry I was just kidding but also wondering. Yeah I know how to install apps or not. I was thinking of an app that you can download and then when you did want to download facebook it wouldn't let you. Its really just a joke brotherhood. I don't have a Facebook problem but I see one developing lol.

Which app is the best for malware, locking your lost phone, and locating remotely? Please feel free to explain any point you want. I've been looking at AVG or LOOKOUT
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I use Avast... Android has remote wipe and locate a lost or stolen device built in... Setting> security> device administrator> Android device manager... Check mark Android device manager to activate it... Then all you got to do to see if everything is working, is Google search Android device manager, it should be the first link...
Here a YouTube video...

I've been using Avast for a while on stock sgs3 rom, but it was slowing my phone, so I uninstalled it. Apart from that it seems good.
I you have a rooted phone, give SecDroid a try too.

wheres my droid is probably the best lost droid app and netqin the best antivirus which also has a lost phone app in it as well.
I installed lookout. I have premium somehow through a tmobile phone I had. So I deleted those 2 and added my 2 new g2's. It works nice, actually better than the iPhone app

Give It A Try.
Belarc Security Advisor
I use the Belarc Security Advisor which tells us about known exploits for our android version and installed apps. It also makes suggestions. The database has over 300 vulnerability entries!
Lookout sucked my battery dry. Thanks to suggestion on here tried BitDefender. They have there services broke down into separate apps, so you can actually as Lily just just as install what you want. GPS,works like I want it to. Great App

Well, I use BitDefender too. It found 3 malware apps installed in my phone during the first scan. I'll stick with it
Hey guys for those of you who have been using the greatest craigslist app ever, do you have an issue with the occasional ad that almost fills the entire screen?
I know the app has been removed from the market indefinitely, but it is honestly heads and shoulders better than even the paid apps. I've had many people ask me for the .apk because they see how quickly I can locate anything they are looking for.
I've tried using adaway which will remove the ad but there is still a pop up that fills 80% of the screen.
Help Please!

For free I think this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cleanmaster.security&hl=pt-PT
antivirus for android is useless. You are rooted? install the Xposed-module and then xPrivacy.
xPrivacy can do much more than every anti virus in the store. it handles the rights management of apps and you can modify it. And its priceless and OpenSource.
