Should I do a complete data wipe for a new kernel or just wiping cache & dalvik cache enough?
Cache and dalvik is all

when doing a full wipe what's the difference in doing a factory reset and wipe cache + dalvik from just doing a format all the partitions( except the sd card)? And also what the difference if you were to just wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache rather than just taping on the wipe cache + dalvik by itself?Just wondering so for all the topics.

Factory reset wipes, data, dalvik, cache and boot.
Explanation of dalvik cache wipe: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...wiping-cache-dalvik-cache-do.html#post1980306
No difference, you just do one but not the other when you wipe just Dalvik for instance.
I gotcha ya!!!

the "formal all partiotions" is a more complete wipe i recommend to do that when installing a new rom in few words it wipes everything you can choose singly too

The "Factory Reset" only wipes the data partition of the phone (all the user-based info), whereas the "Format All Partitions" does exactly that (data, system, boot, sd-ext, cache, etc).
Thank you very much!!!

I always use ARHD Super Wipe script when installing a new ROM...
I am running a custom rom and if i wipe dalvick cache will my phone still be ok, or will I get any errors?
No problem at all.
Though be patient upon reboot as it will have to rebuild your dalvick & therefore will take a LiL longer to boot.

Should be alright, usually if you run into problems thats what you do as well as fixing permission. :good:

Yes you will be ok if you wipe the system or dalvik cache. In fact, I would recommend it before you try to flash any kind of update, mod, or apk. Just make sure to run Fix Permissions after you do, this will save tons of headaches down the road if you make it a habit. Also check out Vincom's stickies at the top of the SkyRo Developement thread, they've got a ton of info in them.
I do not believe you mean system. Wiping dalvik is the odex optimized (for your rom...) files that run when you launch an app.
Wiping the cache partition is fine as well. You should get an optimizing applications dialogue when you reboot.

what kind of files does (wiping delvik cache) delete?
and what would happened to the device after formatting "system/"
last one about ULTRAGEN V.1 ROM
thread link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020137
i followed the instructions carefully but the rom wasn't successfully installed so i flashed CM 10 again
Wiping the dalvic cache did just that, it wipes the dalvic cache... formatting system deletes everything in the /system folder which will require a new rom to be flashed

Is there a difference when I clean cache through an app say Clean Master VS when i clean cache using a custom recovery? Does cleaning cache from an app do anything?Or is it obsolete?
