Nope, in fact, if you root your ics, when you install the Jellybean, your phones unroot.
And, the steps:
1: Download and install RSDLite and Motorola Drivers
2: Download jellybean files, and extract it.
3: Put your phone into Ap fastboot mode (Vol + and -, and the power it. Select 'ap fastboot' of course)
4: Load the .xml file into the RSDLite
5: Plug your phone into your pc, hit 'Start' in Rsdlite.

To the OP. I know you are trying to help and you may have some ground breaking information for us, but please PM a dev or someone before posting steps that could possibly hard brick peoples device. I kinda get what you are trying to tell us, but some things are unclear and I believe you left some steps out, and if someone tries and bricks, thats no good. Not being a **** about this, just trying to save some bricks.
I want to see you help people as much as you want to help people.

Maybe clean up op post. Clearly state that this process is not for ATT phones.
Check out most op posts in dev section. Most have a standard disclaimer that says "DO AT YOUR OWN RISK!" I am not responsible if you brick YOUR phone.
It provides the op as "coverage" for blame when a new user and flashoholics try something and it goes wrong. All phones are not the same as we have found out with overclocking. My phone is one of those that won't take a massive OC. Luckily it's still taking a licking and still keeps ticking.

B. if any issues happens during the installation will i be able to revert back to ICS. ?

D. after the Jelly bean update will my handset be warranty void. ?

is it necessary to relock the boot loader in order to flash or can we just leave out the last step (fast boot OEM lock)?
Oops - getting ahead of myself here. The problem I'm trying to solve is the "recovery mode, yellow triangle with <!>" issue. So I'm going to have to at least flash stock recovery. Had planned to flash everything, then realized that the ICS zip is incremental changes to HTK75D, and the Moto download would probably need a couple of OTAs to get there. SO, I haven't tried what I posted yet -- And I just HATE it when people post without having done it themselves. Mea Culpa. Excuse is that I was posting from plane coming home from overseas and anxious to get home and try it. Sorry.

My boot loader is unlocked and I flashed using the .zip
You had to do it using a USB pen drive instead of the sdcard though.
The android/! point can be solved with a down or up arrow and the power button at the same time, then select the update option.

I updated via Keis (bad mistake!) and lost my root. Even worse, I lost the ability to boot into cmd -- every time I do the Control + power routine I get booted into Android Recovery. Without the ability to get my tablet into download mode, I can't connect with Odin.
Please help --
Either........ is there another way to boot into download mode?
Or........... is there a way to install cmd on my tablet without using odin?
Please....... I am not new to rooting but I need a bit of detailed description. I'm very afraid of bricking my lovely tablet.

Thanks for the response -- however the process you describe does not work after this Kies upgrade. Volume down + power does not get me into download mode -- instead I get stuck in the Android system recovery (3e). (Same with the volume up+power.)
My only options in this Android sytem recovery are to:
reboot
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
I am wondering -- what if I were to place the clockword mod recovery zip file on my sd card and then use "apply update from external storage", or simply reboot.
Any thoughts or suggestions? I was also told I might be able to get into download mode through adb.
Thanks again for dialogue.
Barbara
No chance... Stock recovery needs the zip files to have samsung approval, not only that but it won't allow a different region rom to be flashed either.... Looks like you screwed the pooch on this little puppy...

So just to clarify, you are saying that it doesn't matter whether I can get into download mode or not (which I was able to do, with ADB), because ANY clockwork mod recovery file that I find will be unloadable (because it won't "play" with stock recovery)? Is that correct?
Don't want to sound argumentative, but does that mean that anyone who upgrades their firmware via "official Samsung" will be unable to root in the future? That's not too cool.
But if so, I can live with it.
Again, I appreciate your time.
Barb
I know with the S3 there is a root tool that allows rooting via ADB but I don't believe this has been developed for the Note 10.1 as yet. Everything is done via ODIN... Unless you wish to try the 1st method from this thread to get root access - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831152 - then install a version of CWM manually...
Stock root is very picky about what it will or wont flash.... Even if you have a stock rom, if the CSC oodes, region, doesn't match it will error out...

No........ that's the goofy part of it. I had an upgrade waiting for me (under "settings, upgrade" and so I stupidly assumed it was the official jellybean. Wrong, wrong! I was simply upgraded to 4.0.4. I can't see any noticeable changes, except for the Android Recovery system having booted out my Clockwork recovery (and the root, of course.)
I've decided to wait a week or so until I get the official jellybean and then decide what to do.
It will also have given you a new template in s-notes - landscape and the scroll bar... It will also have given you the ability to use an exFAT formatted sd card... There were a few other tweaks but not too much...

You sure you bricked it? That's the consumer version right? If you have acces to the fast boot on then we can help but if you have you boot loader unlocked then that's tuff cause we still learning not to brick for the hd . I'll tell you what though, If you boot loop or have a black screen try holding power and volume buttons until either the screen freezes and reboots or until it starts up again. Then you can access boot loader mode and or fast Boot we can flash something.

My first post due to a death
The death of my XT925 was probably on the cards since I decided to wet my appetite and unroot it and also unlock the bootloader. Everything was sweet at this point, but then I decided to upgrade to kitkat. A big risk, as it turned out, since now I have a smooth attractive-looking brick. My mistake was downloading a rom, which after _nearly_ completing, failed (after many attempts to get it). I repaired it, and then installed it using some root software. I'll have to look up the names, but now I have no response after a lot of frenzied button pressing. Bootloader / fastboot would allow me to get RSD Lite fired up - but I have nothing. The last thing I did was leave it on overnight with the recovery menu on the screen. Should I get my shopping pants on?

Sorry to hear this.
Flashing is a risky process one can easily flash something that is corrupt, or have something not complete.
One user is trying to restore his with this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551113
Things to try.
1) Flashing the fxz/xml using the snapdragon fastboot command line
Last resort thx to SamuriHL
2) In custom recovery, you could attempt to wipe the system partition and see if that then allows you to flash the fxz/xml.
3) If not, wipe the system partition and then flash a known working rom in custom recovery (4.1.2).
Coming from ATRIX 4G I never had to flash, now with ATRIX 2 I know I need to flash to bring my phone back from bootloop.
I know I can use RSD Lite (is this the best tool, isnt there a simple ATRIX 2 Fastboot tool?) to flash but can I just flash the /system or do I have to flash the entire file system?
I am asking 'cause I bricked my phone by deleting one of the moto files in system/app, that's all. The phone was working fine until the reboot when it enterered the bootloop.
Again, do I have to flash the entire file system or can I just flash my /system ?
Just put the default_flash.xml file in RSDLite and hit start.
And you will flash everything.

Just flash the whole thing, it is the safest way to get you back to normal.

Is restoring stock ICS literally as simple as what you have stated above? OR are the steps as below:
1. Should one boot into the stock "boot manager menu" (if that is the right term used around here?) by holding down both vol up & down buttons and hitting the power button?
2. Select AP Fastboot, connect via USB and then push the "InlineFlashing_Edison_67.21.125_CFC_P3_APBP.xml.zip" via RSD Lite?
And oops I got a doubt now: do I use the ".zip" file as a whole in RSD lite?
(yes, I have been reading the various noob threads . )
And lastly can the above be used as the ultimate fallback option to restore an Atrix2 to working/stock ICS state from any screw ups? (well most screw ups ... like if something goes wrong with I am trying custom roms, trying the overclocking mod etc...). Thanks!
RSD lite will unzip it before flashing, or you can unzip it then load just the XML. Works either way.

Hi everyone, this is my little Guide how to flash a modem (baseband) or a bootloader, or both together in Odin. Reading many threads in the last weeks, has showed me there are many people who have problems with flashing via Odin. I hope this thread will help and result in a successful flash for you guys and girls.
First of all, i want to say, i'm using Odin 3.09 for flashing.
https://mega.co.nz/#!RxsVmQgC!vZ6fruGpIyl5zc_cimddMNHBN9dy8zM2f-0yqq84QZQ
(Credits for the odin package to @samersh72)
I explain how to flash a modem and a bootloader together at the same time. You can follow the steps also for only one of both.
Everything you are doing with your phone is on your own risk. I am not responsible for anything.
So let's start with the flash:
You have downloaded your modem (let's say NB9....tar.md5) and your bootloader? OK, so
1. rightclick on Odin and start it as administrator.
2. Now open the windows taskmaster. End all "Kies" processes.
3. In Odin untick "Auto reboot"
4. For the bootloader select BL and browse to your bootloader file.
5. For the modem select CP and browse to your modem file.
The next step is VERY IMPORTANT
6. Power off your phone. (Make sure it's not connected to pc or charger)
7. Start your phone into download mode by holding Vol down, and power button.
IMPORTANT: DON'T REBOOT INTO DOWNLOAD MODE FROM YOUR POWER MENU! ALWAYS USE THE TWO BUTTON COMBO!
8. Once your phone is in download mode, connect it to your PC. (Best results always with your original Samsung USB cable)
Odin should say "Added" now.
9. Press the Start button in Odin and let it do it's magic.
wait about 2 - 5 minutes.
10. When Odin shows "PASS" you can unplug your phone.
IMPORTANT: WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE "PASS" DO NOT UNPLUG THE PHONE BEFORE!
11. When you have unplugged your phone, it is still in download mode. Just hold the power button about 8 seconds until your phone reboots.
DONE
Go to Settings/my device/about phone. There you will see your new baseband.
To check if the bootloader was flashed correct you need a terminal emulator.
type: su (press enter)
Type: getprop ro.bootloader (press enter)
The result shows wich bootloader you have.

Thanks for the guide my twin good [emoji106]
Thanks! Nice guide. Do you have a link to the flashable modem files?
I looked from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025&highlight=modem+files but could not find the one I'm looking for. Is there another source?
I can take files flashable in either Odin or custom recovery.
Cheers!

Here's another link my friend. If you have the i-9505, you only can flash modems with odin. Recovery isn't possible.

Edit: sorry, just realized it's the same thread. So you could look at sammobile. com if there's the right modem for you.

Thanks a lot!
I haven't found the modem files on Sammobile. I only find the complete stock ROM files that do include modems, but they're like 1.5 GB, and I don't even know if I could extract the modem out of it...
Cheers

Do you have a new knox bootloader?
Here's the package you need my friend. If you have a new bootloader, flash gsm modem and non-hlos. bin.
If you have an old knoxfree bootloader, flash only the gsm modem.

Yes, unfortunately (at least I think). I had to take my phone in for repair (hardware issue, it could no longer read SIM card, so no connection). They changed the whole board and loaded the latest software, with Knox
I was planning to flash a debloated TW ROM as primary so I can still have the stock camera, which gives far better output than anything you can have on custom ROMs, especially in low light conditions, and then test a few custom ROMs for daily drivers as secondary.
But if I guess if I flash a TW ROM, the Modem will be included, right? So that's why I first want to make sure I have a way to flash the modem I have right now and that works well.
Another option would be to find a way to save the modem I currently have on my phone, if there's any way to do that. But that might be even more challenging.
It drives me mad to think that all that is because of the camera, otherwise I would just flash a custom ROM and be done with it!

If you flash a stock tw firmware, the modem is included. In custom ROMs not. To save your current modem isn't possible i think. You only can look if there's a modem package available to download. But no matter on wich ROM you are, you can always change modems to whatever you want. It's not necessary to have the same modem as the ROM base. It just has differences in signal strength or mobile data connection sometimes.
Thx
Thanks for the clear how to

Hi everyone, this is my little Guide how to flash a modem (baseband) or a bootloader, or both together in Odin. Reading many threads in the last weeks, has showed me there are many people who have problems with flashing via Odin. I hope this thread will help and result in a successful flash for you guys and girls.
First of all, i want to say, i'm using Odin 3.09 for flashing.
You can get it from here:
http://odindownload.com/
6. Power off your phone
7. Start your phone into download mode by holding Vol down, and power button.
IMPORTANT: DON'T REBOOT INTO DOWNLOAD MODE FROM YOUR POWER MENU! ALWAYS USE THE THREE BUTTON COMBO!

First of all you can't flash a bootloader in recovery. You must do it with odin. In odin put it in BL slot. If it fails it can be your usb cable or port. Try another cable or usb port.
