[Q] Good 7 inch tablet for 5 year old? £50-60 - General Questions and Answers

I've been asked to find a good android tablet for my 5 year old sister who is very good with technology and quickly picks up anything you throw at her.
It needs to be at least 7 inch, running ICS or JB and have good specs for the money!
But also a price tag of only £50-60 as its her first tablet and we do not know how she will treat it!
Preferable from a repitable website or ebay, amazon etc.
Thanks
James

Look into the nabi 2. While it's more than what you're looking for cost wise, it's an awesome tablet for kids (my son is 4) and it comes with a bumper (to protect it from tumbles) and 50 preloaded educational apps. You can also download more as well. Their support via Facebook is phenomenonal!

That are some awesome accessories like a keyboard, headphones, external battery charger pack, blocks to personalize her nabi, etc. Sold separately of course.
The only thing is that play store isn't offered just yet (they are currently working with Google to get certified) but they have their own app store and amazon is available. Also, it can be rooted to get the play store. It also has parental controls as well! Hth!

Just checked out all the specs and it looks pretty good, will do well for young children but don't you think theyre just a bit too young for a tablet??

Dont judge my baby! Lol. No he isn't especially since there are plenty of educational apps that supplements what he learns in daycare. Its not like he's watching youtube or anything, hence the parental controls. Plus it keeps him away from our computers and phones.
There is a youtube video showing how to root it.

I stopped playing at level 5, but it was butter smooth.
Ya never rooted my phone and i get the occasional software lag when i click something in the interface. however after i do it that one time it must stay loaded because then it becomes as smooth as butter. i just hit level 14 almost to 15 now and have been playing for 3 days straight. today will be another marathon day while at my security job! but the game has yet to wear me out i think it has to do with how there is always something different to do.
OP, Im gonna move this over to "Themes & Apps"
Can you do me a favour and edit your first post so that it doesnt look so much like an advert for the game, discussing it is one thing but looking at that I would be inclined to think that you work for the company and are trying to advertse here
Thanks.
I'll Do to tomorrow when computer is up and running! Sure thing!

The only time you really need wifi them for this game is when you're downloading install package which is about 600 mb. I had originally said I will run over edge but only if you are tethered wifi through something else I do this with my tablet

The Android Market is being re branded as Google Play. You should get an update via the market.

Now if only we could get a check-out feature. I use a pre-paid credit card on line and I'm charged a buck per transaction. I'd like to get a few of these games and songs they have on sale but buying them one at a time adds up.

That's his sig.
I ran into this a while ago and this is what i found out after a few days of frustration:
The reason you can't rent movies is that you have superuser.apk installed. The movie companies are kind of forcing google to not allow rentals on rooted phones (I guess cause you could possibly get around the drm easier?)
There are a couple ways around this.
1) you can unroot via superoneclick
2) you can buy the movies, then go to YouTube via your browser (set it to view the site in desktop mode) and watch them that way
3) there was at one point a gabled version of Google videos that took out the part that checks for superuser, so i bet he did it with Google play movies too.

OnLive bought out by another company. Will remain as is. Not shutting down

You would think if this were true then why did they sign on to support the Ouya?

Apparently its confirmed:

They actually got some freebies they're handing out and an amazing deal on Lord of the Rings: War in the North going on right now too.

An OnLive spokesperson confirmed to VentureBeat that the streaming gaming service's assets have been sold to another company. The spokesperson said users will experience no interruption of services or product roll-outs and the new company plans to hire "a large percentage" of its former employees. The original story follows below.
Rumors of OnLive's demise may have been greatly exaggerated.
When asked about reports that the company was shutting down entirely, a representative with the streaming game service told GameSpot, "We don't respond to rumors, but of course not." He went on to note that Vizio Co-Stars streaming media players with OnLive built in are just now rolling out to customers, and the company is in the middle of a three-week indie game giveaway promotion.
Earlier today, Mashable carried unconfirmed reports that OnLive laid off its entire staff. However, the business was said to be transitioning to a new phase in which a number of the staff could potentially be rehired. The report suggested the new-look OnLive could be driven by intellectual property and its numerous patents on cloud-based gaming.
Wasteland 2 developer and Inxile founder Brian Fargo posted on Twitter that he had received an email from an employee with the company saying that everyone had been laid off and it would be closed by the end of the day. He later tweeted that he had received a recall request on that same email.

Well war in the north is only $5 for the full game...compared to the normal $20 that is a good deal.
I always buy my games from them when they are cheaper than a bag of dirt hahhah...the most I spent on a game was $10 for the normal edition of Dues Ex, where the normal price is at least $30+

OnLive has confirmed they have been bought out by a new company that has 'substantial backing". OnLive will continue as it has. No info on the name of the company that now owns onlive just that OL will continue as normal

Yeah I agree with you there. The screen CAN be a bit cluttered at times....or stuff is so small I want to go play on my laptop or PC...another thing is that the play doesn't have are l3 or r3 buttons....I wish they would put on screen ones...but they never gave a yes or no response to my inquiry about it.

Google Play $.25 sale!

Has any KF users bought any games in the sale? If so, which one? I bought Doubletwist Alarm, FIFA 12, Mass Effect Infiltrator, Mini Motor Racing, and OfficeSuite Pro.
If only Google accepted PayPal. Yet another thing I'll miss out o :banghead:

I also bought double twist alarm (for my evo actually) but for my kindle fire I got mamc (monsters ate my condo) which I highly recommend because it is insane! Literally! Lol
I bought adrenalin asphalt 7 the othe day, don't waste your time for the kindle because all it would do is loop the gameloft logo and not play. Plus it's huge, like 1.4 GB almost. I guess the 15min refund time must start after the download because that took forever and after I discovered it wouldn't play I was still able to get my quarter back

What's the best beat making app?

I'm a producer as a hobby and I have tried many beat making apps but have yet to find one I like. Some are good but can't record and others just aren't so great. What your opinion/suggestion?

Electrum Drum
Kinda off topic, but I've been using something for a long time. It's not an app on android, or any phone. it's actually for psp (PlayStation portable). It's called beaterator. It's by far the best portable beat making app.
But on android, there's not much, I used this one that's called spc. Idk how much it is on play store, I got free as Amazon app of the day. It's pretty cool but not much to do on it. It's basically a bunch of loops you put together.
Thank you all for your suggestions, I have the ppsspp emu so maybe I can get beaterator to work.

Not a true "beat making" app, but I use Caustic. It is a full featured synth app with decent beatbox capabilities. Paid version is 7 bucks, but for me it was worth it.
