Hi,
did you find a solution for you need?
I'm in a similar situation:
Internet sharing from HTC TyTn II wm6.1 to android 2.3.1 iMiTo AM801 8" running Android Gingerbread 2.3.1.
I tried to substitute the wpa_supplicat file as indicated in several threads after rooting my device, but none of them seems to work for me, and all of them break the connection also to non-adhoc wifi network, so I reverted to the original file.
Any help? any news? Let me know, thanks!
Hi everyone!
Yes, I am a noob...
Infos:
I already know that every Android device needs a new "wpa_supplicant" file for connecting to Ad-Hoc Networks e.g. created by my Nokia's JoikuSpot or sth. else...
If there's another option, tell me
Also I've heard about this application:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree
that supposedly can be installed on an unrooted device!
The question:
For me it doesn't make sense, that you can install an app which has access to all files without rooting the tablet at first.
Can I replace the wpa_supplicant without rooting and be happy with tethering 3G from my phone to the tablet?
AdHoc Networks are my only cause for rooting but it seems to be quite difficult, maybe no one did it already with the slate ... I can't find instructions to do it anyway...

Hi,
Anybody knows a working method to make the Galaxy R recognise adhoc wifi networks ?
I think some changes need to be made to wpa_supplicant config .
Replaced the wpa_supplicant located at /system/bin with one provided in this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754961
rebooted the phone.
Now its working !
How can i connect to WI-FI hotspot from "Galaxy R" ???
i have laptop and Broadband on it, i have used Connectify Pro to create HotSpot, and its created but the phone is not able to show the hotspot name ... ???
i have tried in both mode , i.e. WEP and OPEN mode, but no use !!
why ???
any solution ??
android version- 2.3.5
By default Android won't see Adhoc Wireless Networks. Change your wpa_supplicant as explained here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115610
Worked for me in a Galaxy S. Backup your original file, anyway.
Please edit the title of your question so everyone knows what is it about.
Anyone use adhoc? Have it working in 10.1.+/4.2.+ ?
I've tried all wpa_supplicant files I could find with no luck.
I can't get the a700 to see my adhoc ap.
I've got a working wpa_supplicant for a200/ics.
Otherwise I'm happy with
A700/cm10.1.1 stable/kitman v4.1 kernel(3.1.10+)
