Hey XDA!
As a brand new Galaxy Tab user and first-time tablet owner I have a few questions about heat-development and battery-usage, but here is a bit info first:
Model: Galaxy Tab 2 7" 3110 Wi-Fi only
ROM: Jelly Bean 4.1.1 P3113UECLI4 from this XDA thread
Launcher: GO Launcher EX (not HD)
Notable Root applications: Beats! Audio-driver and "Fullscreen" to hide the navigation bar, both from the market
Screen: At permanent 70% brightness
Other: Background sync is off, all widgets are set to refresh between 1-3 hours only
I think this should cover it I hope. I'm not really used to tablets as like said the GTab 2 is my first tablet so I have not much to compare it to but I wonder if it's normal that the device gets pretty warm on the back while just browsing the web and using TuneIn Radio? That's all I did yesterday night and after about 10-15 minutes I didn't found it too hot to touch but it was still slightly uncomfortable :/
The battery-life also doesn't seem to be the greatest as it seems to actually drain power from the battery when plugged in to a regular USB 2.0 port. I understand that tablets can't charge from USB 2.0 unless they are in deep-sleep though is it normal that they actually drain power? o.o I can see my percentage drop by 1% every 3-10 minutes depending on what I'm doing while connected to my PC, though it charges fine if I let it go into deep-sleep...
And to finish this post, here are two screenshots of my battery information:

70% brightness? that explains a lot about battery drain...

Ehehe well I guess I'm just used to a bright screen from my iPhone 4, since I disabled all background things I don't need my iPhone 4 lasts me about 3-4 days without a charge at 75% perma-brightness and doesn't get hot unless I forget to lock it and fall asleep^^; I dropped the GTabs brightness to 50-55% now and enabled CPU power-saving, things seem better but I will report in a few hours for more accurate results

Can someone tell me any suggestions to have better battery life with a custom kernel
I'm currently running aokp milestone 4 with trinity and just look at this horrible battery stats

Flash Matr1x to start. See if that helps. Also, look at what apps are running. settings>apps>running. See if anything there is on a lot, and stop it. Turn auto sync off.
I get about 20 hours of decent usage with this setup
every kernel and rom combo is going to perform differently. I find the best way to get the most out of my battery is to calibrate the battery by fully charging, allowing the battery to fully discharge, and then repeating those two steps once or twice more.
You without me is like Harold Melvin without the Blue Notes...
download battery calibration app from market, fully charge battery (94 or 95%), then calibrate using the app. Allow your battery to fully discharge (until it shuts itself off), and finally charge your phone completely with it still off. You should notice an amazing enhancement in battery life.

what I do is: (Use NSTools, its easier to make this setups!)
- Use LiveOC on 110%
- Overclock to 1110 Mhz - 200 Mhz
- Activate Deep Idle
- Use Lionheart governor.
Try this and see if it helps.
Turn off GPS and nfc if you're not using it! And wifi if you're not connected to a network, I think that may help something!

How about you tell us your on screen time?
Seems like your phone is on for quite sometime given that is it at 41%. Usually during a normal day mine usually consumes 28% with 2 hours of on screen time.
If you're hitting 4-6 hours of on screen time, that battery stat is NORMAL.
Thank you guys for your suggestion but i think my battery is just too old
im ordering some spare batteries for amazon
Tell me what you think about these

Ok. On 4.4 (with linaro version of franco kernel) i could leave wifi on and overnight get 2% battery loss.
Now on 4.4.1 (again with linaro version of franco kernel) i get 5% overnight loss. Nothing else has changed!???
Here are my battery stats...
(i plugged it in just before bed so it'd reset the 'unplugged')

I think betterbatterystats is what causes the battery drain in 4.4.1, i uninstalled it and no problems.
Based on the screenshots (log from BBS would be better as some stats are missing in your post) you've got WiFi on with few applications utilizing it. Like SwiftKey, Facebook and few others. Review your WiFi configuration (you may also need to remove/forget your WiFi network from the phone and configure it again - that seem to fix certain WiFi issues at 4.4.1) and check again. Also try with WiFi off for comparison.
Thanks I've just forgot the wifi and rebooted then re connected, I don't get why SwiftKey is using it? It's a keyboard!?

5% loss overnight is still decent I would take that
mine seems ok
edit. seems the pic has gone wrong. it shows the battery going up a few per cent overnight
I know but it's over the double the 2% i used to get!

I also feel the battery drain quite a lot faster. About two times faster when idle, and i see quite a lot "awake" caused by the Android System when the screen is off.
@wheilitjohnny
that must be coming from some process. I don't have such issue, it's pretty much the same as it was on 4.4.
I've not changed any apps etc since tho. That's what's annoying

What's wrong with this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48258563. No need to start new threads
Can you guys try this?
Set your screen to auto brightness.
Use your phone - web browsing. Now take note of your battery percentage (I use battery dr. so the percentage is on the top of the screen).
When the percentage changes - start timing. Browse primarily white web pages (news etc...).
Time how long before the percentage changes.
Mine is somewhere around 3 minutes (or slightly less). That makes it run around 5 hours (300/60) if it's consistent.
Is this what you guys are getting??? I just put in a new battery and to be honest it seems just like the older battery.
Thanks!!!!
I seem to be consuming 25% of battery in a hour of web browsing (stock battery). So, if you've upgraded to the 2100 mAh One X's battery, everything looks correct.
Thank you. I can't believe how fast this phone burns through the battery. GPS is a killer drain too.
Amazing how many programs start running as well without starting them (Battery Doctor shows me apps using battery).
Oh well.
You have the 2100 mAh battery, don't you?
Yes browsing drains the battery pretty fast. This happens on every smartphone,.though.
About the thousands apps automatically starting, most of them don't drain anything at all, it's not their fault.
try to change browser

No, I have a brand new OEM battery. I'm not sure but I think it's due to the AMOLED screen which just burns through battery when displaying white.
Not every phone burns through battery this fast. The One S is one of the worst. See this pict:

This isn't right surely my phone gets way too hot as well and I'm only browsing social media so far I'm really not impressed with this phone as my sms texts crash too and I can't delete conversation or it takes way too long to open a conversation.
In the first screenshot what is your screen time?

Probably not even an hour mate, it's ridiculous
Strange... Your phone came with Android 5.0.2 preinstalled? Now I see you're using 4g ... For example now I have 54% batterry with 2h 40 (music, web browsing on 3g+). I heard the Android 5 is a major battery drainer (especially if you re staying on 4g). Try to make a few full discharge/recharge cycles or try a hard reset.
For example I don't have a battery problem even that I'm running Android 5. But I've manually flashed it( from Android 4.4.4) . This is my usage for today:

Ahh I see well I'm running the 5.04 I think, I can't update the software so im presuming it is the latest one, and sync where would I find this? Sorry I'm new to androids. You see yours is on about 50% and you can still get 10hours+ mine is on 67% at the moment and it's saying it won't last another 4 hours. I think I'll let it run completely dead them put it on charge
Settings->Accouts-> and uncheck auto-sync data. And about battery predictions they are not so accurate,at least at the first 1-2 weeks... Trust me this is a great phone in matter of battery just give it time. With proper settings and medium usage(4 h 30m screen time) you can get something like this:
This is my usage data that I had 2 weeks ago . Medium usage, web browsing,fb and some pictures .
Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
Ah I see, that's the dream right there lol. This is the second day im using it, it's lasted longer then it did yesterday but it's nowhere near yours lol. I really hope it adjusts it's self by the end of the week.
Also do you find you're phone becomes warm to hot just browsing the Web?!
Depends... On chrome after 20-30 min but I also listen music and it's not that hot . Also it's summer and the screen stays almost at maximum light and that heats it up too .

So I came from the note 4 and thought I would see better battery and screen on time. I see the posts in the note 5 thread that people are getting 7-10 hours of screen on time and maybe the most I can get is 5. Is this from the sprint cell service or something else. I have a lot of apps disabled with package Disabler and I am not rooted. What are your battery stats?

Just about the same as yours. I get about 3 hours of screen on time. However, I do leave wifi, gps, and Bluetooth on all the time. I have a bluetooth headset connected for the majority of the time.
Most I get is about 3.5 SOT so I would say you're getting pretty good battery life.
Confused about the Office apps.
My battery life is good so I can't complain but I find that the pre-installed Microsoft Office apps are taking up quite a bit of my precious juice. Since I have not rooted yet I can't freeze these apps. Is anyone else consistently noticing these apps at the top of their battery usage?
You can use package Disabler to freeze apps.

I get great battery, just deboated and used an app called kernel toolkit.
I get 6-10 hours on screen if not more and all day battery with screen off, but my phone is seriously deboated and most apps stopped from starting.
I get over 3 hours in a 16 hour day. It's not great, but more than enough to get me through the day. The fast charge also helps for the heavier use days.

Yes Microsoft Word was murdering my battery.
