[Q] How To Root Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G SGH-T769 on Linux? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I got Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G SGH-T769 (it comes with Gingerbread). My goal is to get Cyanogen Mod there, so first I planned to root it and use CWM to install a CM. But I need to do it on Linux, so all the instructions found around suggesting using Odin don't help. So far I found Heimdall and installed it on Debian x86_64.
But I'm not sure what else is needed to actually root it. I found some examples with some "one click" methods, but that's not helpful (since they are for other models). Any advice?
Thanks.

[Q] samsung galaxy s4g brick help

alright so i had one of my friends who has the vibrant on tmobile help me root and install darkys rom on my phone. since i had no idea i just let him do it since he has it on his phone. we rooted it use the onesuperclick. we took off the bloatwear and then put the rom on the sd card loaded it up in recovery and did the recovery then installed it. my phone hard bricked. nothing comes up or no download mood nothing even when pluged. but no worries i just send it to tmobile. but i wanna know if anyone can give me a guide to do this step by step so it dosent happen again when i get my phone back. thanks
The vibrant roms do not work on the 4g....until they are ported to 4g with the proper mods made to the rom they will cause a brick everytime

1. no matter how much it looks like it, the s4g isn't a vibrant. there are as of yet no custom roms available.
2. people like you and your friend are the reason carriers and manufacturers are going towards more restrictive ability to root and signed/encrypted bootloaders
theirs no roms for the 4g?

[Q] Odin Bootloader Anyone???

I have been looking everywhere for a bootloader to flash to my SGS 4g via Odin, can anyone help me?
P.S. would a SGS Vibrant bootloader work on it because I have found one of those?
Thank you for your time,
Chad
i don't know much about bootloaders but WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT FLASH THAT VIBRANT BOOTLOADER, IT WILL BRICK!

Don't think that Superoneclick will root gingerbread. Dr honks modified gb kernels will auto root and give you cwm.

Not sure but again you can Odin Dr honks modified kernel to get root and cwm. They are in the dev section.

Nowadays I tend to only check here twice a day. Busy busy days now. =/.
But Chad, to answer your question, if you're gonna root, you might as well try out some of the custom gingerbread roms we have on this forum. There are Audiophile, valhalla and ICBINB. There are differences to all of them so make sure you read up on which you might wanna flash.
Superoneclick can't root our phones on Gingerbread, so you'll need to flash a custom GB kernel as Exodian recommended.
If you want you can follow my GB starter pack guide from step 7 on so you can prepare your phone for having ext4 and a gingerbread rom of your choice without issues.

[Q] Backed up ROM on Vibrant 3G installed on Vibrant 4G?

My husband has a Samsung Vibrant 3G, I rooted it and installed MIUI-NB_1.12.2_signed a few days ago and he really likes it. He just bought a used Samsung Vibrant 4G with the FFC on Craigslist today. Our question is if I make a ROM Manager backup of the current ROM on the 3G, can I install it on the 4G or is the hardware so different that it is impossible? Thanks for any feedback !!
Vibrant ain't sgs4g. Vibrant roms (nitpickers) brick sgs4g, ROM manager shouldn't allow flash work on sgs4g... ROM manager issue with sgs4g too.
Treat both phones/roms separately...

Thanks !!
ok, off I go to root and install a fresh copy THANKS !!
Good luck with that no miui here...

You did the right thing by asking first. If you need more help just go ahead and ask in this thread, plenty of people willing to help others who ask the right questions.
OK, we have decided to leave the OS virgin for now, no root and no custom ROM Maybe later we'll root at least. Thanks for the feedback and keep up the GREAT WORK !!

So I know for future reference, what is the easiest and best application to root the 4G? I have quite a few downloaded when I rooted my husband's Vibrant 3G, such as SuperOneClick and Galaxy S One Click Root All Models. Which one do you recommend?
Depends if your on froyo or GB
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
It's Froyo 2.2.1 It's probably a much better thing than being on Gingerbread to root, right? It's a PAIN in the badonkadonk to downgrade via ADB, been there done that twice with the MyTouch 4G's Successfully too, it was a huge learning curve though LOL
Eh it's the same really.just the method differ. For froyo you can find super one click 1.9 and use the PS nueter (sp?) Option just like you did with the vibrant.
are you planning on cwm recovery?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
yes, I know CWM pretty well since I started rooting MyTouch 4G's a couple of months ago, I find it easy to use and never had any problems on those particular phones. But then, the MyTouch 4G's are HTC phones, this is a Samsung and a completely different kind of breed If you have anything better and safer for rooting the Samsung Galaxy S 4G's, I'm all ears
You could hit the GB upgrade, root, and cwm all in one flash with my one click guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422824
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Tell him it's ok that his phone isn't as good as yours/ours. Just once for me
If you decide on updating, 2.3.6 version is really smooth. There's a few ROMs around, just read up and follow any/all directions.

Question about root and 4.0.4

So I'm wanting to root my s3,but it is running 4.0.4 and I would like to root it and put a rom on it but the majority of guides I've seen are for 4.1.2.i have Odin already and the Samsung diverts installed. Can someone direct me to a reliable guide I can use? Thanks

from my understanding it is easier to root what you have than the 4.1.2 method..
