The one thing I don't like most about running custom roms (mainly the CM10 stuff) is that the benchmarks seem to heavily favor Sense roms (4.2K on CM10 vs 6.3K on JB Sense+), the inferior cameras (ICS sense camera is amazing, i'd kill for it on JellyBAM) and since I come from T-Mobile, I miss the 2G/4G symbols whereas everything else has 3G, H+, H,etc.
Is it possible to port any of these over to a rom? More specifically, JellyBam?
Thanks guys,
Greg
Everythings possible but... I doubt anyone would be interested in spending that kind of time and effort for it.
As for camera, there are plenty of camera apps on the market that works very good actually.
And to be honest, I find the camera in CM10 better than the stock ICS one. Not that I use the camera much, but the few testpictures I took came out clearer than the same testpics I took on stock ICS 4.0.4.

Now I am under the impression that the camera on this phone has greater capabilities then any of the android operating systems (including roms) allow am i correct in this thinking?? and was the lg camera the best?
currently i am running latest eaglesblood which i like very much so.
i am not that tech savy and have a hard time understanding the complexites of video and capture with 720p and all will there be an upgrade?? for cm7 based roms
basically where do we stand and where are we going for 2.3.5 with camera??
ps. same basic question but with hdmi??
IMO the lg camera rules. The CM7 based cameras are very dark, they don't see light properly. Eagles blood does not play nice with stock lg camera. I tried flashing lg cam to it and it replaced both camera apps that come biult in. It also stoped me from getting a signal, and no battery indicator.
Probably try cm7 nightly 2.3.4 and try installing stock camera there. Not sure if that will work. I will try and respond here.
DO NOT USE LG CAMERA WITH CM7 IT IS NOT COMPATIABLE JUST YET. DIDNT YOU READ THE THREAD? THAT IS WHY IT DOESNKT WORKON EB BECAUSE IT IS CM7 BASED. IT WILL BE COMPATABLE BUT doniqcc said it is going to take a lot of work be wise the framework is completely different Anyway that's the deal just be pacient it will happen.

Try installing the latest MIUI... 1.9.11 I believe.
The camera in that is AMAZING. Touch-to-focus works great, and focuses really well. Better than the LG Cam IMO, and it's 2.3.5 based!
import
now i tried the miui rom and in my experience i had so many bugs and fc
would it be possible to import that to cm7 or cm7 based roms?
waiting for the next whole none nightly solid CM7.
jbdaka6445 is right miui sucks. Actually it is a decent looking ROM espicially if you like the ****ty Iphone. But I hafd it installed and Iusually keep a New ROM installed at least a few days but I could not staND ALL THE FC AND BUGS.
OpenSensation is almost done. Great work Vorbeth an Sc2k. I think im switching to OpenS from virtuous inquisition and im sure im not the only one. No more sense based garbage
Cool, but Sense based roms aren't garbage. Sense can be sometimes, but stripped roms are good work. If video recording is fixed, I'll join you.
EDIT: So HD video recording is there. Jumping ship to CM9. lol.
hey man, you have an htc, sense is just for us, no one can have it...
htc without sense is just another phone, like others...
anyway, aosp is good framework
I totally agree, CM9 is pretty much the best ROM on our phone now
It's pretty awesome, but I do miss the Sense camera. Focusing is much better on it for some reason.
I always switch from going from CM to MIUI in trying to find what it the best ROM. I'm loving the MIUI ICS right now. I do like stock android but MIUI is beautiful and doesn't get in the way. All you have to do is put a launcher of your choice (hate stock MIUI launcher) and you are good to go.

Until the Camera on CM9 is as good as the one on Sense, I'm sticking with Sense. With a custom kernel and some tweaks on Spare Parts, this phone really flies.
Glad to hear it. I've been avoiding CM9 until someone said something along these lines. I'm always on the lookout for an awesome AOSP Rom, so I guess I'll be downloading soon.
Try Hypernonsense. It is a good in between, stripped sense with AOSP theme and it used the sense camera. Closest rom to CM9 and it is a bit snappier IMO.
The only downside is it lost support couple days ago.

What's wrong with the cm9 camera? Works fine for me and now we got 1080p.
Had Sense 2 months on my phone. Phone felt bloated and slow on 2.3.3 and Sense 3.0. Switched to AOSP. CM7 then virtous inq then CM9. Maybe 4.0.3 with Sense 3.6 is better and snapier but had no time to test it. The only thing i like about Sense ROMS is the CAMERA. Better quality! Touch to focus while recording a video! Amazing, but we cant have it all.
I also agree with throcker.
I have flashed some AOSP ROMs like CM and Kang and the although the camera works the quality of pictures especially in low light is terrible.
I have tested a couple of times taking pictures with CM and then the same picture with stock Sense. The ASOP pictures come out with a greenish hue.
This leads to my question, is this something the Devs can improve with time or is this a trade-off of not using a ROM based on the Sense framework?

It can be improved, but there are much more important things to do/fix as of now. And it may require a lot of work. It is at the bottom of a lot of developer's lists.
yeah I totally respect the Devs work and for the most part just wondered if it was technically possible.
thanks for the answer.
Will wait patiently..lol
Same I am very thankful to the Dev's.
Curiously though, so it seems that my best bet is to root my phone but to keep the stock ICS android on it becuase otherwise I lose sense4 and the supposedly better camera software htc preinstalled on it?
Thanks so much! cheers.

If you like sense, then stick with the Sense-based ROMs. As for the camera, the hardware is still fully capable of taking the same quality pictures whether you are using AOSP or Sense ROMs.
The camera software is different in AOSP and may not have all of the features included in Sense (yet) and the picture quality might be a little worse off in AOSP, but the AOSP ROMs are still in alpha. The developers are working hard to create a stable, fully functional AOSP ROM... it's just going to take a little time. It doesn't hurt to try the AOSP roms out and see for yourself, just don't expect everything to be working flawlessly.
just as the title says, which is a better fit for our tab? I upgraded to ICS but i see the aug10 cm9 update fixes almost everything. Which is a better flash?
If you want to be able to have more market apps available go with cm9
Because the official ICS prohibits you from downloading apps such as virtual tennis NFS not pursuit, real racing etc..
CM9 gives you a raw android experience and is snappier in my opinion because it uses a kernel similar to s3 I think
The official ROM however seems to have a slight advantage with screen clarity
It has pop up apps which can allow you to text while in an app.
The official ROM also scores higher in quadrant benchmark . But in my opinion cm9 is smoother and has better battery life.
PS: been installing both ROMs back and forth

I went from HC 3.2 to CM9 on my 6210, and defnitely agree with the snappiness of the CM9.
I just have a disease and feel the need to jailbreak/hack any electronics I own. LOL And the ability to sideload apps that are otherwise non-compatible with my tablet works well too.
depends on what you like, at least for now, since our cm9 is still buggy, and not to mention we are not don't even have any custom ROM/firmware/kernel with optimization yet since the only 2 developers for tab plus is still working on getting everything to work properly. but overall, cm9 is better than stock for me. more apps support, better battery life, more performance. but the stock is more stable, for now, and have much better camera(if you care about it, i do).
appreciate the replies guys. Its hard having the galaxy nexus with tons of support and than having this which i love but development is crawling. I guess i'll flash cm9 soon and see how i like it compared to the iCS leak.

cm9 is a lot nicer than the stock ics.
well that is my opinion.
Stock ics is better than cm9. you get polaris, better icon handling and customization with touchwiz, no force closes. I find cm9 bland and lacking. Smoothness is the same for me.
Well if you prefer a complete functioning tablet, then you should stick with the stock ICS ROM.
Thing that aren't working with CM9:
IR Blaster
Audio output on 30 Pin Connector
MTP (MAC only, Windows users indicate it works)
DSP Manager including any Equializer app
WIFI finicky
HDMI output
Hi all.
I'm just wondering what do you think about JB 4.2 camera. I've noticed that all 4.2 cameras are laggy. Few days ago I've tested ICS with Sense camera and it was blazing fast!
Do you have any workarounds to use fast camera on 4.2 JB?
Cheers.
I was testing CM10 and 10.1 today and yes, they have much slower cameras than sense roms like sabsa prime 14 that i am testing now. I think it's all about drivers, however you can also try with different camera app.
Reply
Most JB 4.2 cameras are laggy when compared to Sense cameras....As in the above reply its said, It is may be due to driver...Also in some JB roms there is a slight issue with the images captured...A green/colourful line comes in the image...In some roms its fixed though..
I've looked for alternatives but both UCam and Camera360 were worse for me. Still looking for a decent third-party camera app.
Im having the same lag trouble on jellytime 4.2. I just installed Camera ZOOM FX app. In my opinion, its twice as fast as the stock one, and doesn't have any green/pink lines. It changes to stock for recording a video though, but its ok with me... It has built in image editor with lots of stuff. Hope i helped
