GPS disconnects when minimized - General Questions and Answers

I am running ICS 404 with CWM on Micromax A90S. When GPS is on and any related app is running like maps/waze, gps test etc, GPS icon appears is notification bar. It stays there once locked. However if I minimize the app pressing the home key, the app runs in the background but the gps signal disappears. So when the app is launched again, it takes time to lock. Is this default in Android?

[Q] Gps activated when screen goes off

Hi, my problem is that every time i turn the screen off the gps goes on. If i lock the screen and turn it on after five seconds the gps icon is active on the status bar.
At first I thought it was some misbehaving app, but now I've frozen almost all apps using the permission ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, but the problem is still there.
The application using the gps appears to be google maps, is this behavior normal? I don't have latitude activated, autosync is off.
I keep gps on because I have seekdroid installed and on gingerbread apps can't self-enable gps
You don't per chance have Tasker installed or some other location based widget on your home screens do you?
If you do have a location widget working (Like Lattitude or Loopt) there is probably a setting to check to tell it not to automatically turn on location.

Anyone else notice anything strange about Enabling Data?

Hey guys, I'm not sure if this is just my phone or not, but I can't seem to disable the data connection outside of the widget from the notification bar.
I first noticed the problem when I was attempting to create a profile that would turn off the data connection and back on every 15 minutes, but it failed to do anything.
Afterwards, I tried out some apps such as Widgetsoid2.x and put Mobile Data and 2G/3G onto the widget. However, I noticed that turning off the data from the widget would show it being off on the widget but it'll remain on in the notification bar. If i turn it off through the notification bar, the widget on the homescreen would be off. However, clicking the homescreen widget to turn it on would bring up the Mobile Network Settings screen with a toast saying, "Enable Data First".
Anyone else got this problem or have a solution?
Its not just you, I have profiles setup using Llama to switch WiFi on and off depending on where I am and of course I have it turn data off when WiFi is on.
Now I'm not sure if its a glitch related to turning it off manually, but it doesn't seem to turn back on when out of range of WiFi despite having a rule setup to do that. Yet other rules work perfectly. I just assumed it was a bug with Llama and figured I could like with it.

[Q] i9020T - ICS 4.0.3 - GPS Icon randomly appears in status bar for a few seconds

Hello-
I have noticed that the GPS icon randomly appears in the status bar when using non-GPS related apps. I cannot find an exact pattern, but I've seen the icon appear when answering a phone call, accessing gmail, unlocking the phone, etc. The GPS icon appears for 2-3 seconds and then disappears (never really locks on).
Under location services, I have:
- Google's location service [not checked]
- GPS satellites [checked]
- Location & Google search [not checked]
Anyone else see similar behavior on ICS?

You would be surprised how many apps can use GPS for location. If you don't want it to show up disable GPS and use cell towers for rough location. It won't lock if you don't have good GPS signal or if you're indoors.
Anyway this is normal behaviour.

[HELP] quick access bar, no gps/wifi switch on HTC ICS.

Hello,
maybe someone can help me. I got ICS from HTC Elevate, and... it's little bit buggy, but IDK if this is bug or not - in quick access bar (when u finger down the screen) I don't have enable/disable wifi button, and gps too. This was very cool thing in GB ROM, but it's not on ICS, it's normal, bug, or... not enabled? Can I repair this? Enable? These switches are very helpful. Screenshot attached - there is only (from top) mobile network, hotspot, bluetooth, airplane mode, task manager. On above this i have WIFI, but there is no way to simply switch it off or on, i have to enter wifi settings through this

[Q] Wifi connected but doesn't transmit data?

So ever sense I've upgraded to the OTA JB release, my wifi will connect to the network but won't actually send data. To be more specific, the icon in the notification bar will always have a highlighted orange arrow down, but rarely green arrow up. When launching an app that uses data, I either have to refresh it several times before data will transmit, or open/close the app a few times. Never had this problem with ICS. Any ideas? I'm on stock non-rooted locked bootloader.
