because you are S-ON do this:
flash 4ext recovery(if you don't have it yet)
enable smartflash
flash the rom
done

remove battery and put it again
press and hold together power button and volume down until it shows you the bootloader screen
connect the device into pc and then follow the procedure of how to install 4ext recovery
You must flash the 4ext recovery by command center in your pc.

My Sons HTC Sensation started playing up last night and stopped working!
Sometimes it actualy boots into android but then freezes and only a battery pull turns it off.
Somtimes it starts but the screen stays black but you can hear the welcome sound.
I played around with pressing buttons and sticking in the charger cable and got into the boot menu by pressing volume down and power.
But it is a "virgin" senation, completely stock without any cwm recovery and its never been flashed before. And naturally its s-on because its all completely stock.
Who can give me a tip on how to go about saving this phone? Is there any way to install cwm recovery on a s-on sensation and then flash rom?
Is there an PG86IMG.zip available to flash cwm recovery onto this s-on phone?
this should belong in the Q&A, not Dev section...
that's debatable seeing as I need to install cwm and a rom...
I'm not a complete newbie, I have an 3VO 3D with s-off and a good rom but I have no knowledge of sensation hence my plea for help here...

I assume you've tried a factory reset? It's a long time since mine was stock, but I'm sure you can factory reset by holding the volume down whilst powering up and then choose the option from there... I could be wrong??

I've seen that thread but I have no knowledge of Linux and I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a PG86IMG.zip that might install cwm onto s-on device.
There is an PG86IMG.zip for 3VO 3D for s-on and also cwm that works with s-on devices.

That is to s-off the device and then install cwm. I cant get into a working android os to be able to use the http://revolutionary.io/ website. And I was hoping to be able to flash a recovery onto this s-on
still belongs in Q&A
click this link, shows how to do everything to the Sensation
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
step 2 should have the custom recovery you are looking for, but it looks as if you would need s-off first? not sure, never tried it that way lol. tried running a RUU?
That link is for s-off...
For 3VO we can flash recovery with s-on, why isnt the same available for sensation?

Go into bootloader and do a factory reset. You can't flash custom recovery on it and you can't s-off it if it doesn't boot.

Someone who finally recognizes my problem, thanks for that. I can't s-off because I can't boot, that's why I was asking for a PG86IMG.zip to flash cwm on an s-on device...
I've been in the boot menu but didn't see any factory reset and that was only by chance. Now when I press volume down and power it stay black and just vibrates every 30 seconds or so...
EDIT: OK, I pulled the battery and tried again and now I'm in boot and lo and behold there is factory reset!!! SO I've pressed that and it rebooted and now its stuck on beatsaudio picture....hmmm 10 minutes later and I'm still on the beatsaudio logo....

+1 for RUU. It's worth a try.
You mentioned Beats Audio boot animation? Is it an XE? Are you from the US? EU? Somewhere else? What carrier is the Sensation on? It's important to know because different regions have different RUUs.
more info needed to select correct ruu... cid, mid, hboot version... will you post these for us please
hello,
i have rooted my sensation (EU).. it is unlocked bootloader with s-on and hboot 1.27.0000 and when i tried to install unofficial ROM it instaled via recovery but freezes when it reboots from recovery...
and now i cant use my phone and i dont know how to unsolve the problem...
please help
Did you download 4ext recovery and enable smart flash ? Did you download the required 3.32 firmware?
I believe s on requires smart flash each time you flash a Rom. Also 4ext recovery is needed. Hope this helps, I'm s off so I flash a bit different than you but I believe this will help you.

follow this guide to the letter then flash the rom again ....(for all adb commands in the guide you can skip them ..as you cant boot now ...and the adb commands are used only to take the phone to bootloader ..which you can do it manually)
or to come out of the stuck screen first
try the extra 1 step present in the above guide

Hello,
I've been searching on how to boot into recovery mode in this forum but none so far can get me into the recovery mode.
I'm using HTC Sensation XE with Android 4.0.3. I've previously updated my phone using HTC-One-X-Toolkit and CWM, including unlocking my phone through HTCDev, from which I got rooted. Subsequently there's an OTA update which I installed. And now I realized that I've lost my root. So I downloaded supersu and tried to go into recovery mode. When I select "Recover" in the bootloader, the phone shows brief android logo and then rebooted back to normal. Similarly when I select "Factory reset" in the bootloader, the phone just rebooted itself and back to normal.
There seems to be an issue with the bootloader? What can I do to reset it?
By the way, I tried to use HTC-One-X-Toolkit and CWM 5.8.0.9-pyramid.img again. It seems to be flashed well and then the phone rebooted. However, I still can't get into recovery mode.

No, The HBOOT mentioned it is "PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-ON RL" and "*** UNLOCKED ***" at the top.
I'm not sure I follow what you meant by flashing through the bootloader. I can't go into "recovery" in the bootloader, even though I can see the bootloader menu. I'll try to flash the touch version through the HTC-One-X-Toolkit

Hi,
You should not be using a toolkit for another phone...
Try THIS ONE
Disregard the 4G title. It works for all Sensations(except XL)
Go for the 4EXT recovery.
This contains the "Smartflash " option, which enables you to flash ROMS without being s-off.

okay sorry for late reply .. You are S-ON and have CWM recovery that's why you can't pass the boot logo as CWM don't have the capibility of smart flash. you have to install 4ext recovery.
Follow the below guide :highfive: and i m assuming that your phone is htc dev unlocked and have adb and fastboot etc..
You need to flash boot.img manually using fastboot in bootloader to pass the boot screen. For viperS "boot.img" is present in kernel folder ,extract it and place it in fastboot folder..
Then open fastboot folder and press shift then right click button and choose " open command window here " .
In command window type this " fastboot flash boot boot.img " without quotes and press enter and done.
hope you understand.
After this you can install 4ext recovery easily using this guide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861 ) ..
dude, after flash rom in cwm, power off phone, press volume - and power button to boot in bootloader, plug in usb cable, enter in cmd, type fastboot flash boot d:\boot.img ( search boot.img in arhive of rom )

Hi everyone, i brought a HTC Sensation XE off someone whos already Hboot/rooted and use a custom rom, however i saw this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671547 Vier 1.6.3
Looked extremely good so i thought i try it, Hboot the phone, went to Recovery, CWM loaded up, did a factory reset/Cache
Installed Rom from Zip
went next on everything on installation so no editing anything (Expect removed a App or two i don't need)
Successful installation
Rebooted, went to boot Screen, HTC Sensation xe (The after the viper load screen) stuck on screen not proceeding to rom
I may be missing something or have to do something involving my PC i don't know the programmes just went straight to Clockwork and did a wipe, installed rom, recommended Full Wip
P.S i also did something stupid and forgot to Back up my last Rom (Opps)
i know it takes awhile to boot first time i waited 20minutes still nothing.
HELP!

You do NOT need to be S-OFF in order to install a ROM.
Assuming that you have HBOOT 1.27+,
Then, have you followed this guide?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
Now, if you have succesfully installed 4EXT recovery, and you're flashing ROM with it, then you must enable Smartflash, since you are S-ON.
To enable Smartflash, spot the headline ''3A. Enable 4EXT Temporary smartflash''
from the link above.
Follow the guide.
Once Smartflash has been enabled, it should be OK again.
You also should have made backup. I don't know if it's too late now.
Maybe this helps..
