[Q] How to recover deleted files? - HTC One S

Hi there!
I accidentally did a reset of the phone today. And all my pictures, sms etc is lost
But after I updated to Jelly Bean the phone does not show as an drive in Windows. Therefore my data recovery program don't recognise the phone since it is mounted as a media player (mtp).
How can I recover the deleted files? Can I mount it as a drive somehow?

If he was rooted then he just use TWRP to get mass storage and use the app he was trying to use.

Funny that you need to root a device just to mount the phone as a disk...

Suit yourself for updating to JB :silly:

If the phone cannot detect as a drive, photo recovery software cannot scanning your phone. Here is a data recovery for android witch is focus on android phone, you can try it to see if it can detect your phone. dr-fone.com/android-data-recovery
Photos always stored in CF card in your phone, can you take it out and connect it your you computer with a card reader? if you can do this, the cf card can read as a drive on your computer.

MTP mode can't restore deleted files. You'll need boot into TWRP and mount the int SD to USB mass storage and then run any recovery software.

Ok, guess I have to root then. Any quick guide howto? Can I unroot it afterwards?

I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 (N8013). Loaded TWRP v2.8.5, mounted the internal SD, disabled MTP, and none of the commercial file recovery apps can see my N8013. If I enable MTP in TWRP the device shows up, but of course the tools cannot recover the files. I also installed SuperSU when prompted via the TWRP method.
Can someone post some specific steps on how you were able to get this to work? I'm trying to recover a ton of important deleted pictures for a friend. Thanks!

[Q] Problem connection my blaze with USB

Ive had this phone for a week or so and have since rooted it. But I am now having trouble connecting using USB. I can connect it to my PC and it will show 2 removable drives in my list of drives in explorer but I cannot access them. I also cannot mount my SD card in CWM. It doesnt show any removable drives when I try in explorer.
This all worked fine until I tried installing Samsung Kies which seems to be a POS and somehow screwed my drivers up. Ive removed them, got Kies off my system even went so far as to remove the Samsung drivers off my system and use Revo Uninstaller Pro to get any remnants off only to reinstall and have the same issue.
Any help would be appreciated.
Im using Win 7 64bit. With this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918608
I also tried this to no avail.
First uninstall Kies from your PC and make sure you doesn't leave behind any files.
Uninstallation of the software and the drivers installed by Kies I suggest using Revo uninstaller to do that.
Uninstall it from your PC then make a fresh installation.
Open Kies but do not connect your phone, if it wants to update Kies, go ahead and do it.
Close Kies, connect your phone and open Kies.

Thats the driver I had installed, but I think KIES somehow screwed everything up. Im going to try to reinstall KIES then remove it with Revo and install the exact driver from your link and report back.

Well I did try what you linked and no good. I still get the 2 removable drives showing up in windows but it tells me to insert a disk when I try to access them.
I dont quite know how Im going to change ROMS if I cant mount USB storage in CWM to get the ROM on there for flashing.

Haha yeah..true. You can Odin back to stock, or Insert the SDcard into your PC (no cable) and put a Rom there, or can also "I THINK" use adb to push a rom.

1st let me say Im an idiot on forgetting to mount the USB that way but it wasnt asking me I had to look on the notifications and tap from there.
But that still leaves me unable to mount from within CWM. I attempt to mount my SD card and it doesnt show anything, now I also installed ROM Manager and flashed CWM Touch in between my rooting and now, could this somehow have screwed things up?
Something else I just noticed since the 2 removable drives are now accessible, thanks to you helping me realize I was forgetting something important, both of these drives seem to have what may be important stuff on them but also seem like it may be duplicated or being a bit new to this it could just be the way its supposed to be.

These instructions work to recover any deleted files whether they are Music, Photos or even Apps after Rom Install Wipe or even Factory Reset.
These instructions even work to recover any type of data after accidental delete.
I tested myself after Installing CM10 on my sisters SGSII and she told me afterwards that all her photos, all 1200 of them, yes 1200!! were gone!! I of course immediately asked her why the hell did she save the photos to the internal memory instead of the SD Card

3) Turn on USB Debugging in Developer Options
4) Connect to PC via USB

Explaining this is too complicated for Noobs so don't worry about it.
13) Click Start
Let Program do it's thing
After it's done check on the files you want to recover and click "Recover"
The program then will ask you where to dump files to. Select or Create NEW folder then click OK

Restore files problem

Discoverd today that my videocamera map in Quickpic was lost, must be deleted in some way
My OPO is not rooted.
So when Im connecting my OPO to my PC it finds the telephone but not as e:,f:... It find the device name, so Recuva or ohter recoveryprograms wont recognize it.
So I downloaded this https://www.recovery-android.com/oneplus-phone-photo-recovery.html
The problem is when Im going to use this program is that the phone restart itself all the time.
I have read that it is much easier to recover files while OPO is root, but I find to problems:
1. If I root the phone all data will be erased.
2. If I root some programs might overwrite lost data...
Anyone know any other solution to this problem?

In one plus one, no bootloader unlock zip like tool needed as per above forum thread , because fastboot oem unlock command only unlock OPO. Above thread for bricked phones.
You can store photos, videos and other files in pc, then unlock then transfer all data again to your mobile, for apps use es file explorer and backup your apps as apk filesand transfer them to pc, then restore
Only 3 steps
1.unlock bootloader
2.flash or boot twrp recovery
Flash permanant recovery change
Boot one time recovery change, after boot into system recovery changed again to stock
3. Root with supersu or not.
An OPO-owner's pc recognize his OPO as a cd-unit and he can access it to copy and delete files on it

data recovery from dead gpu z3

Hello
so after filming for 5 seconds underwater my z3's screen turned black and turned off permanently. though it seems to still turn on normally
after unsuccessful replacements and search on the internet the logical explanation was that the gpu is dead
so now i want to recover the data (photos, videos, music) i have on the internal memory
the device is locked by pattern lock so i can't access it when i plug it (it just detects the device)
i want to know if flashing will remove the lock without clearing my data
and if so how can i do it with a dead screen
best regards
I can think some ways of doing data recovery...
1: Safe method if you have recovery!
you can do a soft reset by pressing the button on the side of the sd card/sim tray.

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Press it till it vibrates for a second time, this time it will shut down.
After this, you can turn on your phone and enter recovery (if you have a custom rom or kernel), in this mode you can fetch your files from the internal storage by connecting it via usb to your computer.
2: Use as last resort and confirm the internal storage wiping before doing anything...
Unlock bootloader (I cant remember if it does erase the internal storage partition or not) to install a custom kernel that has recovery.
3: Probably the second safest but it's needs searching the tools if you don't know how to use adb.
If you do have USB Debugging enabled in the phone, you can try to fetch files by using adb in your computer.
Open a CMD in the directory where adb.exe is located and write this code
adb.exe pull /sdcard/ c:/sdcardbackup/
Click to collapse
It will fetch your files from internal storage to a folder called sdcardbackup on your C:/ drive
Hope this can help you!
If you're going with flashtool, you need to wipe the data partition called userdata since there is where the config is stored but it also wipes the internal storage
hello thanks for the reply
1. tried no luck

Hi, as your bootloader is already unlocked try to continue with 2.
If you haven't installed a custom kernel try to install a kernel like EliteKernel, you can find it here in the forums.
Use flashtools and flash boot.img via fastboot mode on your phone, that way you will have a recovery working.
update
flashed Z3FotaTWRPV5.img into it and got it to boot to recovery
i just got my pictures including the picture that killed my gpu (ironic)
anyway thanks for the help... can i edit this to solved?

Hi there, I'v tried to update my FT101. So I've found the right website for the job, KatKiss ROM MarshMallow 6.0.1 Release. Got a lot of things going for me so I was really in the mood for it.
I came a long way.... until the moment came to update Android itself. Entered the SD card. No SD card found. Oke let`s try another one, no SD card found. Alright, also found a link on how to install the FT101 with a direct cable from a PC. Plugged in the cable from the FT101 to my win10 pc, no connection what so ever! Oke let`s try my win7 pc, no connection what so ever! Oke let`s try the laptop, no connection what so ever! So now I'm running out of ideas, last and final try. Different SD format's, NTFS, FAT, FAT32 and exFAT (tried it with two different card's).
Made some photo's of my progress, is there anyone that can help me further? Please? :fingers-crossed:

So assuming by your pics, you still are able to get into bootloader/APX AND Recovery (TWRP)... So you are not yet completely bricked, this is good.
Your TWRP version is 2.3xx and you wanted KatKiss 6.0 marshmellow.
You needed the latest TWRP 2.8xx, that was in another thread.
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2434422
If you find a way to get the sdcard reading (only formatting linux ext3/4 or FAT32 will work) or the pc to connect to TWRP/APX, install the newest TWRP and reboot the recovery (important), and try again to install KatKiss 6.0mm AFTER the reboot.
Your original USB cable for the asus is in good shape? Not frayed or busted? This is important if you want to recover back to stock:
(I cant post links yet) Download the Original factory firmware and the ASUS drivers from here
Code:
http://www.asus.com/us/support/Download/28/1/0/1/32/
Those should be able to get you back to factory.
Are you using a one-click method to root and do that stuff? Most of them are outdated nowadays, packing in old cwm or old twrps.
If need arises, you should check in Windows Device Manager and see what the TF101 is showing up as when you connect.
To get the right driver for it working:
connect the USB
boot the TF101 into APX/bootloader and leave it there
delete the device in the DeviceManager (and checkbox the Delete drivers as well)
now boot the recovery of the TF101
On DeviceManger delete the new device (and driver checkbox as well) again
disconnect the USB
install the ASUS driverpackage letting it finish installing
then afterwards reconnect the USB
reboot into APX, and driver should install in device manager, when it appears, then reboot into recovery and wait for it to install a driver.
You should see if any of the tools you had used has in its directory adb.exe and the related dll files, open a command prompt in that folder with the files (hold shift when rightclicking the whitespace inthe folder> Open a Command Prompt from here). Then with TWRP open and USB connected, go to Advanced -> Sideload ABD, see if its connecting something in Windows Device Manager. If it is working, then that means you can use in the command prompt
Code:
abd sideload xxxxxxxx.zip
-----------> xxxxxxxx being the filename you want to flash
repeat the command after each one finished with the rest of the zips you want to flash
