Hi guys,
A bit of a question for you, I am running the magnificent endymion 3.4 at the moment and want to know if it is ok to update my Rom manager and titanium back up as the market is now saying I have updates, apologies if this has been asked before I couldn't see any other threads on this and am just a bit curious

Yes, of course. It's recommended.
No need at all. Works fine. Many things are recommended, just in case of Bugs / more features. None the case here
To Update Or Not ??

Hi pughie.
The thing about updates, is that you should know what benefits, if any are there in an update, before you apply it. Sometimes it's a good idea to keep certain apps updated (like Gmail, Maps, Facebook and twitter), because, i've learnt from experience, that these usually only get better with time.
Then there are those updates that only add new language support, some UI changes, permission changes, etc... and you may or ma not update these, because they don't really change the core functionality of the app.
Some app updates are completely ridiculous. For example, the application "Folder Editor" had a beautiful looking interface and flawless unintrusive performance, but the latest update shot it to hell and made it push irritating pop-ups on the screen all the time. I would avoid such updates. Good thing is, there's an option to uninstall updates from an app in the "Manage Applications" setting.
Finally, there are updates which essentially change the core capabilities of an app, and it is always a good idea to update them as a rule. The ones i have on my phone, that fall into this category, are 4EXT Recovery Control and Titanium Backup. (For example, the newer Titanium Backup updates add compatibility with ICS, which is essential if you decide to try out the ICS ROMs available for the DS) Ditto with ROM Manager... I hope you get the general idea.
So it's always a good idea to look at the changelog of any app update before deciding to update it. A good practice is to use Titanium Backup to backup the previous version of the app before updating, so that if you don't happen to like the update, you can revert to the previous version (Uninstalling updates from the "Manage Applications" tab will set you back to the oldest version you had on the phone, so i recommend the TB method.
Hope this is of some help to you...took long enough to type!!
Thanks a lot, very grateful for any advice I can get as I am a total novice at this and am learning a lot each day.

Well a lot of really great applications need to be run on a rooted device.
For instance some RAM boost apps, certain security apps, antivirus apps.
A few games like rooted devices also.
...etc.
Others will chime in here shortly with better answers...
and ad block apps that usually block ads in other apps too
Root gives you full control over everything in /data and /system. So you can backup and restore all your apps and data (e.g. using Titanium Backup) or add/delete/replace system apps (at the cost of losing ability to do OTA upgrades, except if you keep a backup of the original files and restore them before doing the upgrade). You can run Browser2RAM and other nice hacks and customize your system while it is running.
What you cannot do with root only: custom recovery or custom kernels. No custom recovery means no easy way to modify or repair the system from "outside", the only thing you can do with the stock recovery is restore the complete system ROM. No custom kernel means no advanced modifications, e.g. DPI changes, over/underclocking, or driver-level stuff.
Setting your DPI lower than stock. 180 is so sweet.
No it's not working anymore since JB.

I'm going to wait a bit longer too see if anyone has a solution. Then I'll unlock and install clean Rom. Then dpi change will be possible.
Just my two cents

There are a lot of great "lowlevel" networking apps like dSplot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914699 (there are a bunch of others, zanti, facesniff, etc, google is your buddy) which if you're into those type of things, are REALLY handy danddy.
The adblocking can't be praised enough, whenever I come across an unrooted-unadblocked device it makes my head spins.
Certain file manager apps (Total Commander, Beta Explorer to name a few) arguably takes advantage of root to squeeze better performance or features (personally, I didn't notice anything faster nor slower, but I dig it when total commander says it's being granted root access when I move files, it make me feel special like that).
Browser2ram is super-freaking-amazing (check this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923285)
If you're a linux fly guy, having busybox around makes this tablet way more handy and powerful (I'm ssh'ing into it, doing all bunch of thingies)
You can use somewhat more sophisticated VPN-alike routing like ssh-tunneling from your tablet through your home (or amazon EC2, like in my case) on a per-app or device-wide basis (e.g: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.sshtunnel&hl=en there are others)
Various app-backing things (yes, titanium is fine, I meant along the line of DataSync: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quintstoffers.DataSync&hl=en)
IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING you can tweak and play with various scripts and config files lying around though I'd be extremely careful with that as it can brick your device, prevent you from OTAing or punch a hole through the universe, ymmv (I personnaly had some issues with build.props which the fine gentlemen here on xda helped me resolve)
There are plenty of other reasons, rooting really makes android in general, and this device specifically, shine like a crazy diamond.
Cheers.
hello guys...
I am new user of android os...
so i dont know which kind of apps are useful for improving performance.. for that i have installed task killer.. cach cleaner.. antivirus..game booster. etc.. but i have not noticed so much improvement..
so pls tell me which kind off apps i should installed.. so i can maintain mobile performance good..
and also one problem there is so many apps for only one performance (exa task killing) and all have good rating so among them how can we find good one...
nd also pls guide any setting which can also improve performance..
Thanks in advance...
Antivirus can slow down the phone a little. I'm not sure the task killer is good idea. Best way to increase overall speed of the phone is unlock the bootloader and install Vengeance kernel from Android Development forum .
Use clean master to clean cache and junk files
It also can clean ram

Most of the task managers are useless!
Disable some apps which you are not using Play Movies, Play Book, etc.
Root you XL then install "Greenify" which will hibernate your apps. It will free RAM to some extend and also give you extra juice..

as i tried to close some apps which am i not using currently like maps.. but it restarts automatic..
nd i have also tried to stop cached process but dnt succeed.. nd one more thing i have noticed is that sum of all memory consuming by different apps are smaller than which they r showing in total used memory.. i dnt know what wrong happening.. when i shut down and restart phone than used memory goes down to 300 to 350 mb and after some using of net and apps its become 450 to 550.. (even i closed all apps by swapping ) as i have bought my phone 5 days ago i dont want to void warranty by rooting at least for 1 month so if any other idea or suggestion you have than pls give me..
you dont need to unlock for using greenify (which is a great idea as it gives you fast performance even with an extremely big amount of apps. to use it a partial root from greenifx is enough. hoohle for it. if you wanna make use of guarantee, you can easily unroot with the same app.
Deacticate systemapps you dont need.
Dont use any taskkiller, android does it good by itself, ram is there to be used and if you clean it, you will run the processor hot everytime you start the concerning apps again and so lose battery and performance as cpu is busy with the new task...
and performance on stock is very good btw...
deactivating (or deleting if you have full root) is the most important step. if you root and delete you must also delete the .odex files from system/app.
Oh and a thread title should describe your problem... like "how to improve performance?"

Many people may be ask what is root? Surely most of you know there is an account called administrator in WINDOWS XP and it gets the highest permission to operate the system. Then, Root is to cell phones what administrator is to computer. Only after you root your phone can you have the permission to customize your phone.
Then can you share your root experience. I am considering whether to root my samsung phone.
Ahh for so many reasons. But to name a few: get rid of bloatware, block ads, listen youtube in the background, record my screen, most importantly customize your phone the way you like it and many many more
For more custom features and to make my phone more smoother. My stock rom was really freezy and laggy. When I rooted my phone and downloaded a new rom, my phone feels a lot more smoother.
Mainly for customization and for remove ads u.u

Install a custom ROM and you'll see why.
Rooting gives privilege , if you are not satisfies with what you have , default apps , any other think which can be modified only if rooted .Although i you wont be having company warranty anymore.
I saw this great reddit comment that summed me up pretty well; for a while I did the whole root thing. Loved it. Tweaking every tiny detail of a phone, getting access to insanely powerful apps, etc.
But it all started souring. Confession: I'm a convert from Linux and Windows to Mac. And that's because Mac's just work for me; when I'm needing to do something vital, I'd much rather something that is 50% less powerful but 100% stable. And I've found with my Galaxy Note 4, although I am annoyed at Touchwiz, at a lot of the stock touches, I much prefer having a non-rooted phone that, if/when an error happens, I know is nothing to do with me.
"My evolution using Android..

Completely bone stock
The end..."
I root my device to get rid of bloatware, to install custom roms, to customize my device the way I want.
For best battery life.
- Remove bloat/spy/adware
- Titanium backup for easily migrating apps+data (including system apps) to other devices
- Micro-manage permissions of apps for security and efficiency.
- A good proxy/VPN app (if you've been to China you know what I mean).
- Killer youtube replacement app (downloads, plays in background, checks other video services, etc)
- Screen rec. app (pre-lollipop)
- Adaway (blocks adds even in games)
- Tasker
- Possibly to re-partition the eMMC --typically with those cheap 8GB devices that emulate an SD card and only have 1GB or so for apps. But that can be tricky. Would preferably try to flash a custom ROM/Recovery if possible, which is not really related to root.
- Also didn't add nandroid backups to the list because I don't tend to flash custom ROMs much.
I rooted my Samsung as soon as I got it in order to get rid of the unnecessary apps and save the ROM space. Enjoy my customized phone since I don't like the feeling being led by the rose.
I root my devices to use them to their highest potential and of course for Flashing various ROMS and Kernels

Hey guys
i need some tips or feedbacks. So ive been with the Galaxy since the S3, and each one ends up becoming the same. They are great when i first get them, then within the first 2 months, they pretty much turn into crap. The UI isnt smooth, things take a while to open, apps dont transition to another smoothly, opening texts,, going back and forth between texts and apps arent the best and i constantly get problems to the point i need to do a warranty exchange with tmobile.
Do you guys experience the same or are you phones super fast and fluid? Even with a rooted phone i experience the same. Whenever i test out my friends iphone, everything seems to be super quick and fluid, just not customizable and limited to what you can do
What can i do to improve my phone or this is just how these galaxies are?
Thanks!
Hiya
I find it's good to reboot every so often, and I also use the built in Smart Manager to Clean All, and I don't experience any lag.
I do run my phone pretty clean though and don't have a million useless Apps which does tend to slow it down.
Reboot and use the smart manager from time to time and you should be good to go. I also find that using Package Disabler, Nova Launcher and Anti virus Apps SLOW DOWN my phone and make it buggy and laggy.
I have now wiped it and left it fully stock and it multi tasks properly and is super quick.

Thanks for your response. i already do all that. I use clean master everyday to clear my phone of cache and boost it so all background running apps are closed. when rooted, i deleted all useless apps and bloatware. i do restart my phone but still, i face these problems. its just frustrating when using an iphone because everything is so fast! i just want to fix up my android to be the same but it always turns to ****. im now facing a problem where outgoing texts stays stuck on sending and doesnt go through so now i have to use a third party messaging app.

Seriously, cleanmaster?? Delete immediately! If you're rooted, why don't you freeze the bloats? Use amplify and greenify combo! Can't believe a rooted user uses cleanmaster
Clearing cache every time is not good and results in stutters as cache is meant to make loading times faster and usually only cleaned if there are signs of corruption!
Your description looks suspicious

So if you're no longer rooted, you can't use titanium backup. No need to root the S6 as you won't be able to update and rooting without using custom roms isn't that great.
Use package disabler pro! It's enough. Put apps to always optimize in battery settings. Use a custom launcher like Apex or Nova. Update everything. Clear cache in storage menu and reboot. You should be good.
Try leaving at least 1GB out of your internal memory free, although its impact is not proved!

no, i meant i used titanium backup when i was rooted. im no longer rooted because i had to update my phone in order to fix some problems i was having. When i was rooted, i used a custom rom, twisted sixx version 3. i want to reroot my phone again, but i want to know if i need to download new files again to root if what i used last time is ok. last time i rooted was in septempber so my files are from that time frame. If not ok, where can i go to get the new files i need to root again? also with your phone, is everything usually fast and fluid or do you come across the problems i mention earlier as well?

Sorry can't help with newer root methods!
I'm completely stock and using package disabler pro and app optimizer. It's not buttery smooth like a Nexus or Motorola, but it still is a fast experience, i.e, rarely any scrolling stutters. Try putting animations to 0.5x or 0/off.

Or he could use Kernel Adiutor and set Androids build in kill scheduler to free ram
Sent from my LG-LS740 using XDA Free mobile app
My little tips :
First. Speed up your android device by *not* installing any speed booster app.
2. Android is smart enough to force close background services when more ram is needed. And restart them when ram hungry process (e.g heavy game) ends. Do some research, it's a very very bad idea to manually kill background apps and services. Doing so will just decrease both your performance and battery.
3.Stock Samsung provided applications gives better performance and battery life. They also use ram more efficiently. try using stock launcher, stock keyboard, stock E-mail app, etc.
Also every other launcher that uses vertical scrolling will have lags. (Apex,Action,Nova and even Google Now Launcher)
4. Manually clearing cache is also bad idea. Imagine you put your charger on your desk to quickly access it when needed (cache), then someone puts it back to drawer every time :| (Clearing catche)

Thanks for the tips. i already use stock email, stock interenet stock everything. My battery dies extremely quick with minimal use, as oppose to when i had it rooted, which was significantly better. with minimal use today, its been off the charger for 5 hours and im already at 50%. i also dont force close. i just click that menu button and press close all when nothings being used, or are you saying thats not good to do?
