[FIX][SOLVED][URGENT] I fell asleep while doing a nandroid, now it is dead. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I fell asleep while making a backup in TWERP. now it won't start AT ALL. It doesn't even go to any sort of screen at all. Black screen. Completely. It will bibrate if I hold the power, but it just keeps doing that. As long as I hold the power, it vibrates after a few seconds like it normally does, but over and over and over. Plugging in a charge cable does the same thing. I cannot load into anything. Am I screwed?

Did you try battery pulling and then going to download mode?

The phone can be very retarded when the battery goes completely dead. Did you try pluggin it in and leaving it for like a hour? Then try and boot into recovery and reboot from there.

All it does is vibrate constantly when I plug it in... But I will try this. Interesting note: If I pull the battery THEN plug it in, it vibrates after having a red light notification, which disappears. Furthermore, if I put the battery in after it disappears, it turns red and stays that way.

It is fixed, here is how for any future visitors to this thread!
Alright! I fixed it! It's back into Paranoid Android . Anyway, here is how. I plugged it in for a few minutes (about 5) then, I read a thing on how I may be able to get it into ODIN. So, here's how. Unplug it, take out the sim and microSD, and take out the battery. Leave it alone for 2 minutes, then pick it up and BEFORE YOU INSERT THE BATTERY hold down power, home, and volume down. Then, insert the battery, keep holding those down until it vibrates. When it vibrates, let go of power, keep the other two held. When it goes into the warning screen, choose to reboot the phone and let it reboot. Now charge that sucker!

That cannot be said better, and I think it should be more visible on the internet for anyone who wants to know, that this phone DOES IN FACT become very stupid when it goes completely dead. If it weren't for that simple statement, I probably would have taken it to Verizon and been made a fool. Thank you x714x!

You are welcome sir.

[Q] Bricked phone. Goes into download for just a second.

Ok so I wasn't using my phone but it was turned on. I wake it up to use it and it turns off and starts vibrating every other second. I take the battery off and whenever I put it back in it does the same vibrating thing. It flashes the samsung logo twice and then just goes black and vibrates every second. Can't get into recovery at all. I tried going into download mode but it only goes in for about a second then flashes off. It's sort of like a glitch like display when it flashes off.
Any ideas?

make sure it has a good charge, what happens when u have usb plugged in
I plug the usb in and it just keeps vibrating. Even if I take the battery out and plug the usb in it does the same thing. It only stops when the battery is out and nothing is plugged in.
i think its a low battery, it does weird things when its really low, make sure ur using oem cable and keep it plugged into wall plug, not comp, for a couple of hours, did u read this, could b power button is stuck http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716302
with no battery and cable plugged in it just vibrates, will not start
I apologize, I actually opened that thread and skimmed through it. The power button was just stuck internally. I just pushed it down a little harder to get it unstuck.
Phones back up and running. Thanks for the help!
Weird a couple of people have reported this issue now

[Q] Let battery die after flashing new rom, now it wont charge

Ok guys, I'm in a predicament, I flashed the latest AOKP build 3 (clean flash) flashed IMOv.16 cache/dalvik/permissions and everything worked great. This was around 2pm. I spent the rest of the day just messing around with settings getting it how I liked it. even after several reboots. Now my battery dies around 11:45pm so I plug it up and it vibrates once, the charge screen shows for a second but the charging icon doesnt spin and then cuts off. tried it for about 30 minutes in the wall, 30 minutes from usb from computer, now its been in the wall for about an hour, if I unplug and plug it the phone does nothing, but if I pull the battery put it back in and plug it up to either power source the charge screen shows for about a second and then cuts off, but nothing happens after that any suggestions? has this happened to anyone else? what should I do?
Ok im not sure why that happened, but I fixed it. I pulled the battery, put it back in and instantly help VOL down + Home + Power and I got it tothe screen before Odin. So I was going to flash stock, but I figured if i can get into Odin I can get into recovery so I pressed down to restart phone instead of up to enter odin mode and it restarted and booted up, with a significant charge on it! Phew thought I had done something bad! :victory: My blood pressure is returning to normal now, but why did that happen in the first place? Will it happen again if my battery dies?

Phone Won't Turn On

Okay, so I was playing a game and evidently it didn't like something I did so it closed the game. No force close message, nothing. just straight back to the home screen. So I re-opened the game and now it really didnt like what I did because it sat at a black screen with the soft keys lit up. I powered it down by holding the power button for however many seconds it took. It vibrated once. I let it sit for a few, then I PRESSED the power button. Nothing. So I held the power button for a few and it vibrated. I let go of the button, ANDROID flashed on the screen, then it went back to the powered off screen (i.e. blackness). I tried it again, same result. I held it for a little bit while AFTER the vibrate and it just vibrated again. Now, when I press the power button nothing happens; when i hold it nothing happens either. I tired removing the battery, putting it back in - nothing. I tried plugging it into the wall, nothing (yet. been about 10 minutes). Tried having it plugged in, removing battery, replacing battery, power button - nothing. I tried power button plus vol+/vol- and yet again, nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions? Sorry about the abundance of run-on sentences
Oh, and FYI i've been running whatever the latest release of AOKP was for quite some time...so nothing new was flashed or installed or anything of the such.
Try reflashing to stock firmware using ODIN? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398
or may be a dead battery?

reflashing to stock would probably work if i could get the thing to turn on...dead battery is what i'm thinking...just very, very weird...there was no bad battery life at all or any indications the battery was about to **** the bed...excellent battery life and everything...i guess anything is possible though...

Simple thought.
Have you tried your method with both the Sim card AND the SD card out of the phone?
You know what? My SR did the exact same thing to me on Wednesday. After a couple of hours it just mysteriously would power back on. I couldn't even get into recovery mode. I didn't have a cable, but I assume download mode wouldn't work either. I think this is what we in the AOKP community have come to know as "jank".
okay, so i gave up on it for a few days and just let it collect dust in the corner of my room. now i'm back at it. i currently have the phone plugged into my computer. when I do, i get three fast beeps which to me means "a USB device was just connected to me but i have no idea wtf it is." When i press and hold the power button, i get the "USB device disconnected" sound. When i press and hold the power button again, I get the same three beeps. absolutely no activity on the screen either. so the phone isn't totally dead, it seems...just can't quite figure out what the hell is going on...

[FIX] Unable to Power on after Battery Dies

Not sure if this will work for everyone, but I've been playing with ways to fix the battery drain issue where you're unable to power on afterwards.
Generally you'll plug the phone in to power on, but you'll keep boot looping.
Here is my fix.
Plug phone in while holding both volume buttons.
Select Recovery
When recovery boots, unplug the phone from charger, and press reboot system.
The phone should reboot like normal,
Plug it back in as soon as the boot logo changes.
The first time you do it, it'll boot normally, but die because of low battery; however it did get a small charge during this.
So do the steps above again, and you'll get the phone back on.
you may have to do it more than twice, but twice has always worked for me.
You're welcome

Just be careful, alteredlikeness and I worked on a script together for this very thing and it really did not get you too much power and ended up draining more battery than it charged, that is why we never posted it. The other thing is that you can fry the phone in doing this too, so again be careful.

how can you fry the phone doing this? I've done this twice now so far without any hiccups.

Anytime, you have a connected power source that you plug and unplug, there is a chance that a connection go astray. I have done this to two different phone while testing this and a few other ways to get the battery to charge after a full on dead batt, with the boot hijack in place. The boot hijack is the real issue in why you even have to do something like this, and why we recommend not fully draining the battery.

Soft Bricked?

My Galaxy s3 turned off randomly today at about 50% battery life. I tried getting it to turn back on, but my power button is broken. So, if I take out the batter and put it back in, it will say "Samsung" for about 2 seconds, and just turns off again. If I plug it in, it doesn't do anything. Sometimes if I take out the battery, put it in, then plug it in while it's turning on, it'll show an empty battery for about a second, then turn off. What can I do? I can't take it to Verizon because it's rooted. This isn't newly rooted, it's been rooted for about 4-5 months, so I don't think that's the problem. There is no custom rom and I've tried a new battery. I want to fix my phone, but I really want to keep the pictures on it. Any help?
Edit: The problem is my power button being defective. If I could just boot one time to backup everything, I'll be happy.

What rom are you on and what were you doing just before it turned off? Can you boot into Download mode from a powered off state? That's the key thing.

Thank you for the reply.
I'm on whatever the default rom is. I never loaded a custom one. And before it turned off, I wasn't doing anything. I believe I simply pulled it out of my pocket. I figured I accidentally turned it off on my own because since my power button is broken, it will ask me if I want to turn it off at random times. I'm not sure if I can boot into download mode. I thought I saw a tutorial on getting into download mode without using the power button, but I'll have to find it again and try it out.
Hold volume up, home and then put the battery in. Sounds like the power button is stuck on, so you should be able to boot into the stock recovery and wipe day. Though with the power stuck on, it's probably the signal from the button that says the issue.
Do you have the vz extended warranty insurance? If so, take it in and they'll give you a new one. It covers any phone you activate (I'd never consider not having that coverage)

Well, I tried what you said and saw "Recovery booting", but then it shut off.
I have insurance, but my phone is also cracked, so they won't replace it.
Edit: I've been able to get it into download mode, but it just turns off still. It's definitely the power button because I don't even have to hold it to go into download mode.

Damn.
Honestly, if it were me, I'd raise Hell at a store with a manager until they did a warranty replacement. Crack or no, its the power button you're complaining about, so if there are no marks on the power button, they can't claim it's user-damage (like a drop).

So there's no way I could at least get it to boot temporarily? Or back it up in any way?
