[Q] Can I flash the new GT-N8010 JB UK update on my rooted GT-N8013? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can i flash the new update 4.1.1 UK version of GT-N8010 to my rooted GT-N8013?
If anybody tried it, does it work fine? any of your data are lost or they are still on the device ?
and do you think should i wait for the US version or download it anyway ?
keep in mind i bought it from US and I'm living in Egypt, so still would i get it or a notification if the OTA is released in addition to that my device is rooted?
Thank in advance

You should not lose data when you go from ICS to JB irrespective of the version. But if you are rooted then do not take a chance a titanium backup for just in case there are any complications.
You will not receive OTA unless you flash the orignal rom when it is released which anyway does not make any sense as it will always release months after the first release

I recommend to make backup of your data with titanium backup or same. After update your data will not lose but I always format system, data, cache when update different version, for better works of tablet, then restore what I want.
I think for long time should i update or not, for month my tablet work on 4.1.1, and for two week work on 4.1.2 - it's awesome, all that i can say

I flashed uk 4.1.1 on my gt-n8013 from stock ics, rooted. It works fine and you do not lose data. Someone had dumped the Us 4.1.1 that came preloaded but there is no .tar file yet.

You should idealy not lose date when you upgrade or step up from a previous version, but it is always better to back up data so that you are safe.

Getting nexus S tomorrow, 2 questions.

I am getting i9023 nexus S tomorrow. I want to know 2 things,
1. Is ICS OTA available now or is it still "halted" by google?
2. If it is still not available I would like to have official 2.3.6 atleast. Is it complicated to manually upgrade to 2.3.6? Can you explain me a bit?
And secondly will I still get official OTA for ICS if I manually upgrade to 2.3.6?? A friend recently got the same phone and it had 2.3.3 out of the box so I am thinking mine will be same as well.
Btw I know you can manually have official ICS as well but I'll like to wait for it till google resumes the updates.
first , i don't know
second , yes , no compilcation , just in "about phone" there is "updated" , all automatic.
Option 3) root your phone and put whatever in the hell rom you want. Change daily....

This is my first android phone, I will eventually root and all that tinkering but initially I want to have a simple experience.
option 3 the best one. at the time you finally root your phone you will regret not have done it before
1. ICS OTA is available. I don't think Google ever officially halted it and I think the news just said it was in a few specific areas temporarily. I got my ICS update about 2 days after the news said it was halted. I have a Nexus S i9020 though. I don't know if ICS is available to all Nexus S versions yet.
2. It is pretty simple to upgrade to 2.3.6 manually. What you do is you have to find the URL of the official update that Google pushes out. Then you download it into your phone, reset it holding some buttons, choose the file and click ok. More detailed instructions are here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1280785
This link gives you instructions to go from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6. DO NOT use that file if you are on 2.3.3. You will need the 2.3.3 to 2.3.6 file. The instructions will be the same though.
Here is a compilation of all of the i9023 official updates. 2.3.3 to 2.3.6 is in there as well as 2.3.3 to 4.0.3.

Thank you the first link shows how to flash which seems quite simple and the second thread has all the download files.
Btw can you tell me something about regional updates. Are they dependent on what country I am "in" or which country the phone was purchased from?
And can any i9023 owner comment on the status of ICS OTA?
Updates are based on the country the phone was purchased from.
Flashing official ROM doesnt void warranty right?
And how exactly does the phone "know" which country it belongs to? I mean arent nexus ROMS all global?
it looks the combination of SIM card and IP address (if available)
mainly the SIM card, it's how it chooses the phone language at first boot
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Flashing the official ROM won't void warranty since it can be flashed via the stock bootloader. It is officially available for the i9023. Feel free to download the update from your ROM to 2.3.6, then 2.3.6 to ICS. If you experience issues in ICS, i'd recommend doing a data/factory reset and, if needed, flashing the OTA again. Just be sure to backup as much as possible (can't backup app data/settings/saves without root, sadly).
Also, you won't be able to downgrade back to 2.3.x after you've flashed ICS without rooting too.
First thing root your phone, and after make a passion about this, search in forum, read, and install what you like, what you think is great for you, be prepared, you have a lot of work afther rooting, belive me.
Good luck.
Just flash stock ics full rom.
If you are concerned with warranty, just flash the stock 4.0.3 from google. However if you want improve battery life, you can flash the leaked 4.0.4, though rooting is required, and may void your warranty.
Hi, I have a Nexus S I9023 too and i just bought it 2 weeks ago... also i am from india but that doesn't matter... now for your questions...
1. ICS is available officially from Google, it's just that some users were experiencing problems so yes they halted the OTA but still it is available through the manual update.. and for your info... Manual update is exactly just the same (100%) as an OTA. Google themselves say that...
2.I myself had 2.3.3 installed from factory and could not get the OTA update... but then i could do it to 2.3.6 with the help of this thread..
Go to this link... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445635
and go to Full Roms and choose the 2.3.6 rom and flash it.. throught the instructions ton that thread..and to tell you again it is another official way to update and google also supports it...
and you will get the ICS OTA even after manually updating... it's just a normal update.. and for your info.. first i was also scared about updating but i just did it and it worked and for ICS i have ICS on my phone right now and i did it the same way as 2.3.6 just download the 4.0 file and do it the same way...
and for your info i am not getting any problems it is PERFECT THE BATTERY IS EVEN BETTER THAN GINGERBREAD.. AND FOR RECHECK I DID THE SAME ON MY UNCLE'S PHONE AND IT WORKED AWESOMEEE!!
AND IF YOU EXPERIENCE ANY PROBLEMS JUST PM ME..
HOPE I HELPED..
EDIT: NEXUS S UPDATES AREN'T REGIONAL IT'S JUST DEPENDANT ON THE MODEL.. also the warranty is perfectly safe...
I agree with option 3. But you will have read and test a lot (this is why we don't have iPhones!! ).
Once you root and flash...you will notice you won't stop doing it!! We have the best damn developers!!

@SAXXENA...................Ohhh Dude " FOR YOUR INFO" unlimited times.
He knows that what u said in total was actually for his Info only.
LOL.
Thanks everyone just got my nexus. It's 2.3.3 and really happy with the out of box experience, super smooth.
As expected no OTA, now I am confused if I should update to 2.3.6 or 4.0.3.
I guess since this is my first android phone it seems appropriate I use GB for a while and perhaps get ICS when google resumes the OTA.
I updated to 2.3.6, quite a quick and painless procedure.
Can someone tell me if I can delete the zip file from the sd card now??
Yes you can.

New firmware update (64mb)

Hey guys! Anyone gotten a recent firmware update?
Been using my Note 10.1 for 2 weeks now. I'm rooted (but on stock ROM) so I know I couldn't install the update.
Currently with a HK set with build N8000ZSALG7 (baseband N8000XXLGA)
Technically if I wanna apply the update, I would have to flash stock recovery? I downloaded it off zedomax's tutorial. Its the same for any region right? *Noob alert
Appreciate any help! Thanks!
One X to rule them all
Ok I flashed the stock recovery and updated the firmware successfully.
Bad news is its not JB (duh). The good news is it brings a few small improvements we saw in the recent India JB leak.
First and foremost, the irritating keyboard pop up upon exiting an app opened from a folder on homescreen is gone!!
And I found some small changes to s note
- s note widget is now added
- scroll bar in s note (but no more collapsing of the toolbars for fullscreen! Horrid)
- new book covers
- new landscape note
Unfortunately, the new split screens hasn't been included and mini apps stay the same. Bummer. Also, no airplay for the s pen in gallery and video player.
Other than these, I haven't found anything else. More to come from Samsung I hope! Really wish they would bring back the fullscreen mode in s note though.
UPDATE: PDF import into S Note seems to work ok now

what is the Android version before and after the update? 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 ?

Sorry for the late reply. I only rooted my Note using Zedomax's CWM method (Method 2 if im not wrong). Didnt flash any other roms as i wanted the chinese input keyboard found only in asian roms. I am not sure if you can just change firmware to another region. Most of the roms are based on the EU stock roms.
In order to update, I had to flash back the stock recovery (apparently available online and universal) since it was in CWM recovery after rooting. This will enable any official OTA update.
Any form of flashing rom will result in wiping of data/settings. You need to use titanium backup after rooting. Rooting (flashing CWM and SuperSU) will not cause any data wipe.
Hope that helps.

I received the upgrade yesterday, xt925 with ICS retail. I felt the system more agile, some icons has been changed and two new application installed with ROM, Netflix and Saraiva Digital(Bookstore). I don't liked the changes made in 'contacts', they put a white background, the menu block 'group' 'fav' 'contacts' are ligh blue color with white font, looks strange because the another things like app menu, config menu e etc still in black...
has new transition effects, they looks good.. Well this is my first contact with JB...

I'll try use OTA root keeper and temporaly unroot... then instal OTA 4.1... if doesn't work I'll restore 4.0.4 original and upgrade...

Yep, Netflix and Saraiva are system applications. They come with the ROM. Did you use Titanium Backup to remove them? I did that too, but now I think the best is to just freeze them and unfreeze when needed.
confirming...
So guys,
I've just bought my HD through Claro. If i'd like to update to jb now and be rooted, is the following process correct?
1: install ics retail version BR.
2: root it somehow.
3: use voodoo or the likes to keep the root.
4: Upgrade to jb. (Could it be done normally through the system, OTA? Or would I have to flash it?)
I'm also wondering about Motorola's unlocked bootloader.
Is it better for me to try another way to root, so that I can keep my warranty, or is it better to just unlock it trough their site?

[Q] Aussie version GT-N8010

Hi all
Just got a question regarding the version software my note is running,
I understand there are a number of different versions getting around, I'm unclear as to what is the latest version for my particular model

You can flash you device throught Odin:
Use BTU or NZC firmware.
h**p://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-N8010
Well believe it or not kies says it is the most current version, guess we must just miss out here in Aus
This is why I use other country roms...
I dont think I'd ever have the courage to do something like that on my own device, sounds a little complicated to the novice modder, I'd be too scared to brick it!!
You shouldn't be. It's a piece of cake.
http://techmell.com/android-tips/how-to-install-galaxy-note-10-1-n8010-zccma4-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-official-firmware/
Is it possible however that I may lose some functionality by doing this? It does sound simple enough, I can build computers so I should be able to do it
Ohh, and I lose all software installed correct?, hence the extra special need to backup prior?
I didnt lose any apps or settings but I went from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 updated without a hitch.it will sudgest a backup but I didnt have time or my pc to backup too.i was at work.but a backup is good while you are waiting for the file to download.not sure what the go is nowdays but I use to use titanium backup the paid version.you need a rooted tab tho....not a big deal....google exynos abuse and grab the apk and install that.its made by a dev called chainfire (very trustworthy)it can root your tab in about 30 secs.once rooted you can backup you apps and settings if needed.i somtimes had probs with the settings part, but no probs with the just apps. Once backup is done flash the new firmware, reboot and play for a few mins....then reboot again....root tab again with exynos abuse as it should loose root rights with the new firmware....then re install titanium and load your backup and or your sammy kies backup too. Clear as mud eh?

No, you don't loose apps, but it's recommended to factory reset your device. I went through 4.0.3 -> 4.1.1 -> 4.1.2 without wiping. But finally I did a factory reset to be sure
Okay, thanks for the info
Finally, what are the improvements, additions and removals for the device between 4.0.4 and 4.1.2
Cheers
I believe the jelly bean update is now available for GT-N8010 Australian model

The last release for the US was July 2012 V. 4.0.4. I would use the Brazil 4.1.2 release from Oct 2013 , it works great and is rootable.
Get either from http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/#firmware

Yes it does. and it will wipe your system and apps. Do not wipe with the ICS system before flashing. just use ODIN and flash the new ROM. You will have to root again if you want root. Follow the instructions in the forum.

If you restore app using titanium backup, do not restore data. You can restore apps only, ICS and JB treat app data differently and restoring app data with TB will screw things up.
Isn't it just sad that Samsung never released an official 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for the U.S. model of this tablet even though they released it for practically every other country on the planet! I will never purchase another Samsung tablet ever again!!! Here's proof they don't update their U.S. tablets, http://samsung-updates.com/region/?region=XAR
