[Q] Phone Icon Missing -- SOLVED - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Using my phone as usual, went for a run. When I looked at my phone after my run, my phone icon is missing from the bottom of my screen (whatever that's called--it escapes me now) and from my app drawer. It's still present on my lock screen and the app still exists on my phone--as shown in the application manager.
Every other thread with this issue is either doing stuff with themes or ROMs, or they just removed it accidentally from the home screen. Not the case here.
Any way to fix this without doing a factory reset?
I'm running stock, rooted VRBLJ1

Seems like issue with your launcher, what launcher do you have? Try to reboot your phone, if stills not working go to settings->apps and clear data for your launcher.

Using the stock launcher. So what's the name of the launcher? Found several in app manager that could be it...

Touchwiz
I just force stopped mine, cleared data and it reset it. That will undo all the customization if you had any. Hope that works.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

I have a "Touchwiz Home". Is that it?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Yep. It reset mine and added back the icons I took off. Give it a shot.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Great. Got my phone icon back.
Now, anyone know what went wrong with the launcher or what got corrupted? I ask so that maybe next time we could fix the problem rather than having to clear the data and loose all customizations.

can you freeze your wi-fi calling?

I tried to freeze wi-fi calling in Titanium Backup. But after that I still see this app when I check it in setting-->application-->managing-->running. And just as before, you cannot kill it from running application. Is this normal?
I used bloat freezer to freeze it and my battery life has been 10000000xs better ever since.

not normal. i froze it on mine, and my husband froze it on his, both using titanium and i havent seen it running since. perhaps you need a reboot? the app isnt in your drawer anymore, is it?

I just took couple of screen shots. This is my first time to link files from dropbox. Hopefully it will work.
here it shows the wi-fi calling has been frozen
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/27291692/g2x/2011-04-28 09.23.55.png
and here is shows the wi-fi calling is stll in running app list
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/27291692/g2x/2011-04-28 09.22.59.png
I cannot see the wi-fi calling app in the application screen. --if that's what you mean in my "drawer"(?)
When you say reboot, do you mean press hold the power button to turn the phone and and back on again? I think I did that last night but apparently it didn't resolve the problem.
p.s. the same thing happens to one of "my account" app as well (the one cannot be killed by manage application in setting)
same case as OP. Froze wifi calling and MyAccount with TitaniumBackup, but both apps still run. (yes they disappeared from the menu, but they are still constantly running)

You should have to reset it... cause i had the same problem i froze My Device and it sent me into this weird force close loop but after i reset the phone it didn't show up in the processes again.

factor reset? again? well, if that's the only easy option...
btw, I think someone mentioned there is thread that gives a complete of bloatware that could be frozen. But maybe I not good enough at searching, can anyone point it out? Thanks.

No no no i mean like battery pull or turn the power off and on not Factory Reset! and ALL bloatware can be frozen and/or removed if you want! But the only reason you get this weird force close loop is cause you freeze/remove the program, but the process is still running leading to the phone not knowing what to do. Than after you reset it(Not Factory Reset) it wont start up because you have removed the app.

I do not have any FC problem. My problem is simply that, when I freeze the bloats with titanium backup, these bloats would be removed from the app drawer BUT still be running in the background. (this scenario applies to WIFI calling and Myaccount)
I have restarted the phone, factory reset, and tried this on 2 phones already. So I really doubt that would fix the problem.
1 question: what do you freeze them with? Maybe bloat freezer can do a better job than titanium?
just kidding! I went to the menu you are referring to and saw the apps under running processes for me too! This scares me, however since the program is present but frozen, aka can't be actively run, I am ambivalent as to whether it has an adverse effect on battery life. (maybe since it's frozen it is present on the list but won't drain battery?) Also, maybe it's presence there insures that it won't get in the way of an otA

I completely uninstalled it from my phone. If it 'breaks' OTA updates, I'm sure there will be a ROM dump within hours anyway on here, if I'm not running CM7 by then that is.
yea the thing is that, I sometimes want to unfreeze Myaccount or WIFI calling to actually use them. Uninstalling/reinstalling is quite tedious every time

Problem with ICS launcher

Hi guys!
I´ve just updated my TF101 to ICS and it´s really fast. But I have a problem with the laucher. Some times, when touch the home button to go to the homescreen, the laucher and all the icons desappear.
I can´t go to the apps that are open (with the multi-task button) but the launcher doesn´t appear.
The only solution I know is shuting down the Tf101 or closing the laucher app, but it is quite boring to do ir every 5 or 10 min.
Does it happen to anyone here?
Happens to me as well.

Same here... needs re-boot to recover...
I only had that if the option to kill tasks as u exit them was checked on. Its under developer options towards the bottom.
Edit: actually that's only the case on my phone. I have the option checked on my tablet and it works just fine.

Ok thanks for all I´ll re-boot it, but will I lose all my apps? I´ve never done a hard reset.
Everything that wasn't stock on the tablet will have to be reinstalled.

same here but may be able to narrow it down.
I am having the same problem. The whole screen just displays the wallpaper and removes any icons or buttons. So I can pan sideways and can sometime know what I am clicking on by memory but all icons go until I reboot.
weird thing is.... I have done a factory reset. reloaded my apps and settings. Its all working fine until I pop the Gmail and Calendar widgets on the screen, then boom. Gone again.
At the moment I am running without any widgets and I have not had a repeat. Do any of you clever clogs have any ideas on this one. Seems to be a small percentage of users with the issue.
Same...
I had the same problem however it seems to have stopped now. Perhaps as a result of my app purge that i did the other day.
Anyway for those still having this problem i suggest you use the notification bar to access the settings then from there you can go to the Launcher under apps and do a force close. after a bit it will reopen again with all screen icons and widgets back.
Guys I think this is the same issue, it happens on my tf.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1519943
yep
Happens to me too,
I managed to fix it the latest time without rebooting, by going into settings, running apps and stopping the launcher and anything google. Next time this happen I will make a note of which killed process gives me my app icons back.
also its strange that even with the app icons gone, you can still click around the screen and open things, as if they were there.
same ...
same problem on my tf101
I fixed this by clearing the data for the Launcher in settings. Hasn't happened since but annoying as it meant rebuilding my homescreens :-(

you should try Nova Launcher, it looks and acts like the default launcher in ICS. But with a couple functions added. I havent had any troubles with it.
Just search it in the market. to get the widgets to work just move it to /system/app
I installed ICS on mine at the weekend. For a couple of days it reasonably stable, though certain apps lagged somewhat. Then it got much, much worse. There's a recurrent problem with the launcher. If you've gone away from it, such as to use an app, and then return, firstly the widgets and stacked/grouped app icons vanish, then all the rest of the icons vanish, and the three squares on the top right of the screen. The icons are still there, as it's possible to stab on the screen in the right place and launch the app that the invisible icon links to. All five screens of the launcher have vanished. The tablet still runs, as the live wallpaper still runs, and the recent apps are accessible.
Other problems include major freezes or lags. It's common to go to launch email or the web browser only to have to wait 20 seconds or so before anything happens. I've had to wait 5 minutes before now for Opera to launch. Eventually the tablet will freeze and I have to reboot it, but even then, apps take an age to launch, and regularly freeze. It's getting to the point of being totally unusable. It's taken many, many attempts to write this email as the app crashes of its own accord, and perish the thought that I copy and paste any text in, including the email address - it's enough to crash the email app.
My TF101 ran Android 3.2 perfectly fine, and very, very quickly. It was gloriously stable. I can't get more than 2 hours of use out of this without having to reboot; this afternoon I've been having to reboot every 10 minutes.
I've drawn Asus' attention to these problems via Twitter and Google+, and I know they've been told about it on Facebook, but there's been a wall of silence.
Richard
I had the problem with a disappearing launcher on ICS on 4 different launchers. Recently I removed a few widgets (NewsRepublic, Bacon Reader, and DroidWidget) and haven't had the problem reoccur. Maybe some widget incompatibility is to blame?

Could be. Mine's more stable (touch wood) since I got rid of both Beautiful Widgets widgets off my home screen.
Guys I´ve finally done a hard reset on my tf and all goes fine.
Thanks for all
Same problem here with the stock ICS launcher. Using ADW Launcher EX without problems.
Some apps seems to be running super fast at times and then others super slow at times with ICS. Guess I'll do a Titanium backup and factory reset and see if that helps. ugh...

Google Maps (Navigation) GPS Issues

First, it sometimes sends me to the wrong place.
Second and worst of all, my navigation lady keeps saying the same thing over and over "turn right to xxxx and exit at xxxx" doesn't matter where i am going or how far away i am from home. But.the navigation map will show the right path/direction/way (most of the time) just the voice keeps looping on the same message.
I am on stock ICS. I've tried reboot, deleting and reinstalling the app, refresh, wipe cache, etc. anybody has this issue and knows how to fix, it gets really annoying?

Try clearing data from google services frameworks and data and cache from maps. Not sure it will work but it's worth a shot.

The same problem happened to me from time to time -- and it might come back again when I update my ROM. Clearing cache and clearing data for Maps was enough to get rid of the problem. No need to re-flash the entire ROM.
- First stop Maps in your Android system (System settings > Apps > All > Maps then click Force stop);
- Then clear cache
- Finally, clear data;
- Try again loading Maps/Navigation and ask it to drive you somewhere. Ear if the voice is still stuck on the same Turn right on main street...
If the problem persists after trying to clear data and cache, clear all /cache partition and Dalvik's cache in recovery.

Out of curiosity are you using TiBu, and did you let it reboot your phone on a schedule?
I ask because I have seen this same exact problem. The problem appeared to stem from a scheduled job within TiBu that would clear cache and reboot during the night. I killed that job, and then I no longer had the problem. However, I later went back and set up a different job to move apps to internal memory and then reboot. Once again the problem returned. I have since disabled all jobs that reboot the device, and all is good for me now.
Sign out of Google maps first...

I've heard that for persistent problems like yours that you need to sign out of maps and latitude, then clear the maps caches and data in both, then re-download ur maps updates from the play store. Latitude is known to hold onto a lot of the bad data and then re-communicates it back to maps.

[Q] Back Button Problem

For several days now I've been having this problem appear in different apps. First, it happened on the Facebook app, then on an app called Goal, and most recently on the Textra (SMS Alternative). What basically happens is when I press on the back button (be it the capacitive button on the bottom of the screen or the button in the app that appears on top), the screen just refreshes. I'm not talking about a refresh like on an internet browser, but more like it redraws the screen really quickly. I basically get stuck in a specific screen. What's worse is that even if I do somehow get out of the screen, the next time I come back to the app (say I switched apps for a minute), I will be back in that same screen.
No matter what I do, it's almost impossible to get rid of the screen. I tried clearing the running apps, and even if I start it over again it will go back to that same screen. The only thing that has so far worked has been either clearing data for the app, which can be troublesome especially if it's an app that requires some sort of a setup, I end up having to do that all over again. Or in some cases, I reboot the system.
I have recently installed a memory booster software, and this only occurred to me know that I'm writing this message. I will uninstall it to see that was what was causing the problem, but if it isn't, does anyone have any idea what it couuld be?
I'm running NOVA Prime 3.0.2 on the Ultra MAXX.
