I had recently read an article on here (unfortunately I can't find it again) about a certain phone having the ability to display video through a 3.5mm to composite cable. I tried this last night with my blaze and not surprisingly it didn't work. BUT... I switched the rca ends around on the tv because I remembered that using a 3.5mm to composite on an 5th ipod video required I think the white end to be plugged into the yellow port on the tv. So I was changing which cable was plugged into the yellow port and every time I would plug/unplug the red end to/from the yellow port on the tv, the video that I had playing would pause.
I was just wondering if this reveals anything at all, possibly something that could lead to video out through the 3.5mm jack?

I believe there is only audio output to the 3.5mm jack so what is happening when u put that rca in there is its making contact with the audio circuit and just as if u put headphones in and take them out itll pause or music the same with the movie since its only audio to the jack

What you're saying does make sense, I just wonder why it only pauses when I plug in the red end into the yellow port. It doesn't happen with any other configuration. I guess I was a little too hopeful :/. This phone would be perfect if it had video out capabilities.

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a sound dock available for HTC Desire or Micro USB? I want one like those for Iphone:

this is not possible through usb, because the usb prt of the desire doesn't have athe audio out pins for some stupid reason. The only way to do this is through the the jack plug.

Hi Lukzke....do you know if this is possible, (playing out through the ear phone jack plug)?
I did try this using a camera lead that was 3.5mm plug to two rca plugs, into my home amp's aux in ports. I had to turn the amp volume up very high to get any sound out, and then it started skipping tracks and generally behaving badly, so i disconnected. (There may be a better lead out there).
Would really love a solution so that I can stick a finger up to the ipeople!

just did this the other night with a 3.5mm->3.5mm lead. the only way that it MAY have done that if somehow it interfered with the control lines (used when when you use the stock earbuds).
try a different cable, that should fix it.
Not really what you wanted, but can't get any closer:

I have an FM transmitter in my car that I plug into my 3.5mm jack; and I've noticed once or twice that when jamming the connector in at a funny angle without paying much attention, that the phone comes up with the "headset" icon instead of the "headphones" icon. Unplugging it and plugging it in again always solves the issue, though. I think it just happens due to accidentally making contact with the microphone/control contacts.

yes, a new simple lead fixed it....a Connexia 3.5mm G+ model....quite cheap and has worked all day without skipping and the volume levels are ok on my Marantz amp.

I want to buy the 3.5mm to RCA TV out cord (cause I think we're in agreement that the Micro USB to HDMI is not going to happen?)
My questions is can I connect it to a monitor with Composite inputs? Will I be able to hear anything?
I want to stream my slingplayer to a TV for when I go tailgaiting and don't really feel like lugging around my LCD I have in my living room and don't want to buy a TV just for these purposes.
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks!
I'm not familiar with that device, but as long as you can output video through the 3.5mm slot, a 3.5mm to rca cable will work fine. RCA is composite, so as long as your monitor has a yellow rca you will see video. For audio you would need red/white rca in.
I read somewhere that you have to switch the red and yellow ends of the cable because of the way the captivates 3.5 jack is wired. The video will come across the red end of the cable, the left audio on the yellow and the right audio remains on the white. My problem is, I have the 3.5 to RCA/AV cable but can't get any arrangement to work. I have tried both tv out settings on the phone and every possible color combination at the RCA end of the cable and all I get is a scrambled video and a buzzing hum that drowns out the audio. My 3.5 to RCA audio cable works flawless. Maybe I just have a bad AV cable. Anybody else have these issues or any advice?

I've got the same problem on my captivate (stock ROM) anyone can help us out? TV displays Dark Gray - Blackish things, but the thing is that at some part of it I can see my device's desaturated screen.. Any ideas what the problem is?
So hey, I'm searching for some good speakers or a speaker docking station to play music from my G2. Obviously there are an abundance of Ipod/Iphone speaker set ups. I was wondering what products you guys were using and what you think are the best for some outloud listening. Bluetooth streaming? Wifi? I don't even have a home computer, so I'm a little limited. Any feedback would help me out since it's almost Black Friday!! Thanks.

If you can't find a decent dock, you could get a 3.5mm to 3.5mm headphones thingy. Which is what I use for my iPod.
Plug one end into the phone, and the other into your TV. Win?
I must have been over thinking this, I'm gonna give that a go when I get home..only problem is my tv has weak speakers. This could be a good quick fix until I upgrade my system.

I tried this, but nothing..I have an Lg plasma and it dosen't have a specified headphone jack. I just plugged it into the two different spots that would fit the 3.5 mm. chord. One was for a controler, the other was rgb something. I might have done something wrong..Will it just play on any channel?
DLNA ?

For my TV, it has the following channels for input
Antenna, AV 1, AV 2, AV 3, Component, RGB, HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDMI 3
For my TV I have to use RGB to get any sound.
Also check you aren't plugged into the TV's headphone jack.
No its not, Maybe my next one will be.

What kind of modification did google make to the largest Nexus S in bustbuy to have Video out? don't really matter if its video out or hdmi.
techcrunch.com/2010/12/23/giant-nexus-s/
could it be something like a displaylink plugged to it?
i remembered someone did something similar onto a nexus one by reversing the USB port to be a host instead of a slave.
sven.killig.de/android/N1/2.2/usb_host/
any ideas?
or maybe the nexus S does has a video out device.

honestly i have no idea how he would even know its a real NS inside, it could be..you know not
It's probably an opened up phone with a splice from the board to the display.

true, maybe they did just open up a phone remove the screen and take the connections that would normally be used for a screen and hooked em up to the screen using google voodoo
how i hope there is some sort of external hardware to do video out.
i remember reading it somewhere that SGS can do video out via the 3.5mm jack, but not the NS.
www.intomobile.com/2010/07/02/samsung-galaxy-s-video-out-through-3-5mm-headphone-jack-um-yes/
or maybe like streaming straight onto your telly via DLNA. that will be awesome.
I would be interested in this as well, but sadly the SGS and NS are not 100% identical inside.
I used a 3.5mm jack output with a white and yellow connector thingy on the end, sorry for being so technical lol but only the sound played out through the tv no video using the youtube app.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
that would make sense because it is you know, a headphone jack
I think his idea, was that on the SGS that wsa the video out port as well.
using the special nokia 3.5 video out cable
i have the cable, but i don't have an old TV / VCR to test it with.... all my TVs, Monitors, Projectors, Video Players, etc, are all HDMI or DVI or VGA inputs
LOL
it's so hard to find an old RCA inputs now in days

RCA stands for really crappy appliance
Does anyone know if the s5 has video out on the braphone jack like old galaxy s devices?
I need a solution to get composite audio and video to a projector. Projector has DVI / svideo / composite/ VGA.
Any ideas? I have seen mhl to hdmi which are cheap but then I would have to convert to dvi and loose audio and run a separate cable.
No but there is MHL to VGA adapters you can buy from eBay etc.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/400785524940
But that's audio only.
I found thus that might do the trick and doesn't need any external power.

Oh actually just looked again and there's an audio out socket on the aide of the VGA.

Says in the description you get video but you can't get audio out of that using S3/4/5 etc. Probably because of the newer MHL standard.
Perhaps they mean on the older phones? The description says AV cable. The A standing for audio and V standing for video. If it doesn't do audio then the item is not as described. I have just queried this with him. You can't have a title saying AV then in the last line if the small print say doesn't support audio.
Does that mean that the mhl to HDMI doesn't carry audio either?

It means it works with audio and video on older devices using the original MHL, but S3/4/5 etc use MHL2.0 with different pinout and that's why you need an adapter, but maybe something about that RCA cable can't use the audio for whatever reason.
But as long as you use that little adapter you can use any MHL to HDMI with audio.
Just checked my MHL version is 2.1 hopefully they will clear it up. If that is the case can't I just use audio out the headphone jack and video from the mhl phonos? Pain in th ass from a wiring point if view but should still work.

Yeah that'll work but audio quality won't be as good, but I guess it's the only way unless you buy a HDMI to RCA converter, but that means plugging 2 separate adapters into the phone and even more hassle.
Yeah plus I already bought that cable haha.
Your right its a massive hassle, I just gave away my iphone as well which was dead easy to connect via RCA, add that to my unable to swap extSD with inSD on kitkat problem and im starting to wish i hadnt bothered with the S5 now.
just bought Monoprice mhl vga converter which is supposed to be 100% compatible but can't connect... nothing happens,.. no sound, no error, just nothing. installed the Rom with stock kernel (thought that might be an issue (since I was running on Twi5ted Lollipop Rom with a custom kernel... same result, while my wife on her htc one m7 running a custom ROM too had no problem... just connect and enjoy... i'm at a loss... anyone here got an advice? thanx.
Galaxy S5 G900F... stock kernel.
I got an MHL converter in the end as well and it works great, you need to plug your charge cable into it as well at the same time to get it to work.
