[ALL 2012 XPERIAS] {GUIDE} Recovering from SOFT-Brick - Sony Xperia Miro, Tipo (Dual), J, E

This is from the WIKI page "Brick (electronics)"When used in reference to consumer electronics, a "brick" describes an electronic device such as a smart phone, game console, router, or tablet computer that owing to a serious misconfiguration, corrupted firmware or a hardware problem, can no longer function. The term derives from the vaguely cuboid shape of many electronic devices (and their detachable power supplies) and the suggestion that the device can only function as a large, heavy object.
The term can also be used as a verb. For example, "I bricked my MP3 player when I tried to modify its firmware."[1]
In one common sense of the term, "bricking" suggests that the damage, often a misconfiguration of essential on-board software, is so serious as to have rendered the device permanently unusable.
However, another use of the term "bricked" is understood to describe a situation where a device is unable to function even when the device does have potential to be recovered later to a working state. In this sense, the damage may be reversible; it is only during the period that it's unable to function that the device is deemed "bricked". This is often referred to as a "soft brick" whereas an unrecoverable device is a "hard brick".DON'T WORRY, BE PATIENT, YOU CAN FIX YOUR PHONE.
This is common 'cents' worth more than a million dollars

For this guide I will define types of RESETS that happen when pressing both the POWER and VOLUME UP buttons.
SOFT RESET = 1 vibration then let go of buttons (hold about 3 seconds); Like hitting REBOOT.
HARD RESET = 3 vibrations then let go (about 10 seconds); Like taking out the battery.*
*USE HARD RESET ONLY IF ALL OTHER TRICKS HAVE FAILED. RECOVERY FROM THIS DEEP LEVEL OF SOFT-BRICK WILL TAKE A LONG TIMEBoth can be used at anytime on a working phone. Most bootloops will also allow resets
First try to use SONY's PC Companion to REPAIR your phone.
However if your bootloader is unlocked this may not work

For most of the tricks you will need to have FLASHTOOL ready with a STOCK.ftf file waiting at a specific spot.
For help with finding your phones STOCK.ftf file click here
you will find instructions HERE on how to create your own STOCK firmware ftf file for your specific celluar carrier/region and model XPERIA. Each phone model has a different file for every android version. You will need a working phone to get your specific file, However you can use a GENERIC version that comes on international phones to recover from SOFT-brick
As the various 2012 XPERIA forums get organized, the moderators are trying to set up STOCK FIRMWARE ftf file download threads. As these threads come on line I will add them here. For now I will provide at least one file per phone for recovery.
MAKE SURE YOU USE A STOCK FIRMWARE FOR YOUR MODEL. Using the wrong models file will give you the very SOFT-brick your trying to fix. If your not sure then ask for help.

M2 from my sister Pattern Blocked!! Help please!!

Hello !! I'm not much to put posts but... I have a huge problem... The M2 of my sister (in the hands of his little girl) has been blocked... She activated the pattern (her little 3 years old baby), and do not know what pattern is!!!... Also she activated and deactivated ALL, and is no wifi or data enabled... So i cant send an email to my sister Gmail!! I searched how to enter the recovery but it is impossible not to find anything !! How is it possible?? I want ti do a reset and stay factory... But i cant enter to the recovery...
Any little help ?? :angel:
Regards and thanks in advance !! :fingers-crossed:
Try to repair it with Sony PC Companion.
I cant!! PCC say me "need unlocked" or something, if i dont unlock the pattern, i cant connect to sony companion... (awwwwwwggg)
When you enter an incorrect pattern 5 times, you get a Forgot Pattern button where you can use your google password to unlock

Hi!! Yes i know! But i have said in my first post that i have no wifi or data activated! So i cant use the google password. All data is on SD, so i only want to "format" or "wipe data", but i cant enter recovery...
If you just want to format, wouldn't flashing a clean FTF solve it? I suppose you'll have to wait until the battery runs out for it to turn off first, though.

Hey! Sorry but i don't understand you... Frist, whats FTF? (I'm Spanish, so my English level it's only from school )
The battery ended two hours ago and phone its off, but do not understand why you mention it ...
Thanks!
You'll need flashtool and an .ftf file from here (probably customized_ES, since you're Spanish).
Charge the battery, but don't boot the phone.
Put the .ftf file to <where you installed flashtool>\firmwares
Start flashtool, click "Flash", select the ftf you downloaded
It will prepare the files, then ask you to connect phone in flash mode
Hold the volume down key and connect the USB cable (keep holding the volume down key)
The notification LED should light up green and flashtool will start flashing.
Should it not start flashing, then you're probably missing some drivers. The installation package for it is in the flashtool\drivers directory.
edit: I think this should be clear, but doing so will wipe all your data on the phone (not SD)

It tells you what to do - install the drivers from the flashtool\drivers folder.
If you are running win8+ x64, you might have to disable driver signature enforcement in windows first.

Edit: Ok, i changed the "cable" (i dont know why) and now its flashing!!! After flash, what i need to do?
Use the PC companion. Look for the repair option and that's it. If I'm not mistaken you'll find it on the support zone. Just follow the instructions

Actually, after flashing the ftf you should have a factory reset phone, so no further repairing should be needed.
Okay!!! All its okay now REALLY THANKS!! The only thing is the little baby of my sister bloqued SIM, so i called her operator for PUK and now it's all okey hahahaha
Another time, Really thanks!!! :laugh::laugh::laugh:

This is only for certain z devices I think as it uses a loophole in certain KK firmware to restore x-reality and supervivid and if your lucky it might improve low light condition images. Not really needed on the M2 as the loss of said ta keys doesn't really effect the camera like on the z range of devices where it renders the camera unusable in low light conditions.

Which dual recovery should be downloaded for Xperia m2 dual from nuts web page?

[C2304] Installing TWRP or CWM recovery in the Xperia C

Well, I just purchased this device and came here after that to look at what we had and I'm disgusted.
And there are several reasons for that, being:
1 - Locked Bootloader...
2 - This forum seems somewhat abandoned, which leads it to be somewhat disorganized.
EdiT:
Thanks to our friend repey6 > http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=5704037
TWRP 2.8.7.0 is now included, and it works just ok, with all functionality.
I strongly recommend you to use it instead of any other recovery. Just make sure to backup your ROM again after installing it, as CWM or Carliv backups won't work in TWRP.
I replaced the old TWRP included in the attachments with the new one provided by repey6, but the installation process remains the same.
Plus, this was not created by me and it's mad old (2014). But still it works better than the Carliv Recovery we have available here...
So Let's go. The proccess is the same for both, just choose the recovery image you want in the end of the topic.
(almost forgot to say that if your phone bricks it's you responsibility, I tested it in mine and it is working fine)
STEPS:
STEP1- Root your phone (if it's not rooted yet).
To root your phone you'll need to:
a-Download the framaroot APK provided in the attachments
b-Install it then click in the Boromir option and the su binary will be installed.
c-Download SuperSU from google play store.
That's all, simple like that.
STEP2- Check your bootloader's S1 Version
a-Open your dialer and input *#*#7378423#*#* , then go to Service Info>Software Info> S1 Boot Version.
b- Check if yours is 2.14.J.2.6 or 2.14.J.2.13 or 2.14.J.2.16 . If yours is one of these go ahead, it should work just fine and you can proceed.
If yours is 2.14.J.0.68 do not proceed, as it will 100% brick your phone.
c- My phone has S1 Boot Version 2.14.J.1.15 and in spite of the developer having not mentioned anything about it, I risked it all and my phone flashed the recovery normally, so if your version is also 2.14.J.1.15, it should work just fine and you can proceed.
STEP3 - Install the recovery
NOW, BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL HERE, OTHERWISE YOU WILL HARD BRICK YOUR PHONE:
a-Download the mobileuncle.apk file provided in the attachments and install it.
b-Download the twrp_xperia_C.img file provided below and put it in your internal memory (not on the external). Rename it to recovery.img, otherwise mobile uncle won't see it.
Now, here's the part you have to mind, so you won't brick your phone.
Mobile uncle can install a recovery using one of two methods. One is by installing the image from your internal memory (which we'll be doing). Other is installing it from the internet.
Now, YOU DON'T WANT to install a recovery from the internet, as mobile uncle doesn't provide any image for your device. So if you flash any of these recoveries, you'll never be able to make your phone boot again.
See in the image below and you'll get what I mean:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
c - So, before proceeding TURN OFF YOUR WIFI AND DATA CONNECTIONS so that mobile uncle won't show any recovery from internet
d-Open mobile uncle.
e-Grant Super User
f-Press "Recovery Update"
g- With wifi turned off, you'll see only your recovery in the screen
h- Click it, the file size of the file I'm posting must be around 6MB ( 6210KB for CWM), if it's different cancel and download file again.
i- press ok and restart.
DONE
:good:
EDIT:
I just noticed that after flashing the recovery you might get your phone stuck in the SONY logo after it.
In fact it happened to me, but just once.
If that happens don't panick. Recove the cover of your phone and besides the SIM-2 slot you'll see a tiny role with the word "reset". Insert a needle in there and your phone will restart normally.

It should work in both, I'm using a recovery for C2305 in my C2304.
Just don't try flashing a C2305 ROM on your C2304. It will not hardbrick your phonw, but the SIM cards will not work and you will get a mad functioning phones.
Some custom ROM's based on stock firmware work in both though.
Hey anyone tried for xc 2305???
So my S1 bootloader version is: 2.14.J.0.68. Is it for sure there is nothing that can be done?

Sorry for the late reply! Haven't been able to test this until recently due to an issue getting my PC to work properly with my phone. Anyway, I would like to confirm that I was able to flash this on my Xperia C2305 that had S1 Boot Version 2.14.J.0.68. The photo below is proof of CWM running on my Xperia C2305:
Things you will need:
WMShua SuperFlash: http://soft.flushrom.com/WMShuaSetup.exe (after installing, you can change the language to English by renaming Program Files/wmshua/language to Program Files/wmshua/language_x)
Xperia C 16.0.B.2.16 FTF: C2305_16.0.B.2.16_TacoNikky.ftf or C2305_16.0.B.2.16_Congngheviet.ftf (pick one; I used TacoNikky's version)
Procedure:
1. Open WMShua, then click on Flash (not Super Flash). Browse to the FTF file you downloaded. You can choose to backup system before flash (I unchecked it on mine). Follow the screenshot below for guidance:
2. Turn off your phone. Next, hold down the Vol- (volume down) button on your phone. While holding down, plug in the micro USB cable. The LED will flash red. When it changes to green, release the Vol- button. WMShua should automatically try to install the needed drivers. After installing drivers, it will begin the flashing process. If your phone turns on instead, simply unplug it from the USB, turn it off, then try again.
The flash process may take a long time (it took 30+ minutes for me), and sometimes it may look like it hanged, but it's actually working. Just be patient. Once it reaches 100%, your phone will automatically boot up. Check your S1 Boot Version—it should now be 2.14.J.2.16. You may find that you've lost root, so you will need to root it again (I use KingoRoot). After rooting, follow the instructions on the first post to install CWM or TWRP. Good luck!

Hello, to all whoever watching the comment. I want to tell that I've completely revived my Sony Xperia R1 plus G299 model using the rom I found on the website. It's working perfectly. Sure, I'll provide you with firmware. But I have to give you warning before you do any steps of it
After Flashing the firmware my phone have lost it's IMEI number only its Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is working.
Also this method is just for Sony Xperia R1 Plus which is hardbricked means it doesn't turns , screen shows nothing when pressed button only shows red led blinking when charging cable is used.
Note: If you don't wanna to loose it's IMEI please don't use this method.
Requirements: - Ultimate Multi Tool software, Qualcomm USB Drivers & firmware.
Steps: -
1) Please install the UMT in your system/computer. You'll need to purchase it's usb as this software is not free or you can go nearest mobile repair shop as they do have this software generally or see if your friend have one.
2) Please install Qualcomm usb drivers.
3) If your phone is hardbricked this method works on it only. So open your phone back panel reach to it's motherboard.
4) Now after reaching find Sony G299 Edl points and short them but remove battery first. After shorting both edl points keep them shorted and insert the USB cable in phone and then in your computer. (You have to keep edl point shorted until you plugged the cable)
4) In your device manage you'll see the a usb COM port will be shows (It'll be like this Qualcomm HS-USB Qloader 9008 COM and some number).
5) It means your device is not connected in EDL mode if not try repeating the step above. If it worked make sure the device name shown in device is not showing any kind on error mark in device manager like this
if it does. That means your QC Usb drivers are not good. Seek help on youtube if this happens as this error is not gonnalet us flashing the firmware.
6) Open the UMT tool and choose the flasher option on top. Next make sure its on Single program mode. Below that you have to provide patch file and Xml file. You can do that by going into firmware folder which you've downloaded. It'll automatically detect the file format you just have to select it and then after all is done hit FLASH button.
It'll flash the software in sometime and your phone will reboot after that. But from my result it'll not have it's IMEI number anymore sony IMEI repair is not easy and you'll need to visit service centre maybe.
Here the firmware: - Firmware (https://www.mediafire.com/folder/6tpen9umgcou4/SONY_G2299_S000028_171102_2017-09-01)
Let know how it worked for you.
thank you so much!

Question Unbrick Nokia 2.2

Good night everyone.
I have a Nokia 2.2 TA-1188 to which I recently unlocked the bootloader successfully using the method from this guide:
[GUIDE] How to unlock the bootloader for Nokia 2.2
To content farms: DO NOT COPY AND PASTE THE ENTIRE GUIDE! Now the last piece of puzzle of Nokia x.2 series bootloader unlock line has been completed, thanks to the help of a member called Woke_World. After I read his procedure, I decided to...
forum.xda-developers.com
However, when I tried to flash the latest TWRP (v3.6.2) over stock Android 9 (the ROM used to unlock the bootloader from the guide above) following the exact procedure shown on TWRP's site, using both the recovery IMG and the vbmeta linked within the instructions (the vbmeta apparently comes direct from Google), the phone became bricked and totally unresponsive apart from periodic short vibrations whenever I try to boot in any way (system, fastboot, recovery, etc.).
What can I do to try revive it?

If you can connect to the phone with SP Flash Tool you should be able to flash it with Android 9 again and start over. Just download though, not format + download, because then you'll need to restore your IMEI and serial numbers.

I have just tried to do so, but to to no avail. I keep getting the following error message:
STATUS_STOR_LIFE_EXHAUST (0xC003001D)
The storage on your device has reached end of life, please change to use new device to do operations
I used the DA bundled with SP Flash Tool and drivers linked in one of the folders, apparently MTK ones.
Here's a screenshot of the error message:

I was able to download the firmware again after unchecking the Storage Life Cycle Check box within SP Flash Tool's options, and the phone is now up and running, no troubles up so far.
Thank you very much for your help djinc91!

I've had no trouble with my storage during all the years I've owned this phone. Never experienced slowdown, errors, loss of data, etc, not now, not before.
Even so, this is just a backup/2nd device used for nothing important, so it doesn't bother or worry me in the slightest. I'll just keep it using it as is until it dies or I just can't make it usable anymore.
Thank you for your heads up, though.
