[Q] Overclockable kernels on Galaxy MOD rom? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

** NOOB ALERT**So i have a verizon gs3, obviously, and i was wondering if there are any good overclockable kernels for the Galaxy Mod. I was also wondering where i could learn the basics of undervolting. So preferably a kernel which can OC and undervolt. Someone might have already answered this question but i dont want to look through 238 pages.
Here is the link of the Galaxy Mod thread----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953008

PM already includes overclockable kernels in his ROM, just choose the one you want to use when you install, I prefer lean kernel. All CPUs are different so the amount you can undervolt is going to vary but theres 3 general groupings for our CPUs, slow, normal, and fast. Fast ones will generally need less voltage and slow ones the most voltage. To find out which one you have you'll need to reboot your phone then open up a terminal and type in SU (enter) dmesg | grep ACPU (enter). Once you find out what kind of CPU you have imoseyon has a list of recommend voltages for each type listed in his thread over at rootzwiki. From there just try lowering voltage a little at a time.

Thank you for your help but I'm using the ktoones kernel how do I change it from there?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Use his program called ktweaker.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

No I know that but how do I know when to stop under clocking does it say when I do the terminal thing listed above?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

The terminal command will give you an idea of how well it may under volt. I'm pretty sure KT already has it undervolted some so if you have a fast CPU you can probably go lower but if yours is slow it may not go much if any lower. Its basicly going to be trial and error just lower voltage a little at a time and see if it stays stable. If you go to low the phone will show stability problems, freezing, reboot etc. While you testing try not to have voltages set on boot until you have stable settings.

Thank you a lot Im going to try it.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

So tried it and the second line down said fast so I'm guessing I have a fast one. Now how much would I under volt it to on average? Sorry if my questions have obvious answers I just want to make sure i dont do anything to my first smart phone.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Take it a step at a time, down 25mv across the board shouldn't be a problem to start. Just use the phone for awhile to make sure its stable before moving down further.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

So go down 25 mv then use the phone then go by 5 and use it? Thanks for all your help.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

That's the idea. Mine is a fast one also so I can give you my voltages but theres no guarantee they'll work for you.

Thank you this really helped me i actually got down to 1180mV and counting for 1728Mhz
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Yep, first column MHz second is voltage.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Last question is quadrant a good app to make sure every thing is working well
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Generally I'd say no, it may stress it a fair amount but scores vary to much.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

So then what would I use? Or do?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Just use it how you normally would, if you see a problem start bringing it back up.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Thanks, I went down to 1160mV for 1728Mhz
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

I went down further! I went down to 1110mv for 1728mhz!

Battery script

I noticed there is a script for epic touch that will lower the processor speed to 1Ghz when between 84%-35% batter then 800Mhz at 34%-0% battery, is there any way to get that to run on the skyrocket?

Get setcpu in the market and adjust to the same settings.

Best paid CPU controller

Antutu paid vs set CPU
Which is better ?! What are the pros and cons? Opinions?

Set CPU works fine for me...all I want is one thing, change the speeds that's all. But for a user that wants more options then they would probably chose antutu

* sigh * the only downside to set CPU is the widget :/ I will prob end up doing that

I used to use SETCPU, but finally I found that the battery life was almost the same as the situation when I did not use the SETCPU.....So I gave up at last and let the phone run as it was..

The problem is I over clock and use a beta rom.... so its a bit buggy and if I can't sew my ghz live then I won't be able to trouble shoot so easily.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
what i think is.. just use the "matched" radio and kernel.. and the battery will be at its peak.
Set cpu and check cpu tuner...

For me set cpu is better

I used to use SetCPU until I realized it was the culprit in a lot of my stability issues so I switched to using the kernel tweaked in liberty rom toolbox

Thanks for the input . I hear that the set CPU dev isn't good at responding. Any thoughts?

Cpu tuner it's better than set CPU..i used it in my x8..stability issues are occurred..so i prefer CPU tuner..

Distorted Display Error?

I'm running 4.1.2. from AOKP on a Captivate. Recently, while online using Maxthon browser, I intermittently get a distorted screen. Everything freezes and the phone reboots.
The screen distortion is like a double image with vertical stripes of broken lines. All functionality is lost and after about 10 seconds the phone restarts.
Is this a hardware issue, a kernel issue, a Maxthon issue or some other problem?
Thanks.
Joe

Are you overclocking at all? It's either that or your phone doesn't like the voltages provided by the kernel.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Kernel doesn't allow voltage changes. The CPU is set for 100 min, 1200 max. Are you thinking I should back down that top end? Maybe 1000 Mhz?
I'll do that and set the governor to conservative.

App that helps battery?

Are there any apps out there that LEGITIMATELY help save/prolong battery life? I have memory booster running but that just helps my phone run smoother by killing cached app processes. Anything you guys can recommend?

This phone requires it's own nuclear power plant lol.
Seriously though, don't use memory boosters. They kill battery.
My setup is, CPU Tuner with timeriffic to set display brightness. With Maz's latest kernel I can get by... mind you I live in a very bad signal area (2 bars if I am lucky).
I set cpu to 216 when screen off with performance governor. Also I turn off data and Wi-Fi when screen turns off.

I have mazs latest beta kernel as well. Don't really see a difference in battery life from his previous oc kernel. Ill try CPU tuner though

Sure, but be careful with it. I once it accidentally to low enough power to where I could not get out of screen off (kept going back to screen off). Also using one cpu does not work.

Does CPU tuner even work with a kernel that not over clockable?

Would, but only two cpu states will be accessible... fairly useless.
Edit: you need voltage states for intermediate voltages, then it should work. But I have never seen a non OC kernel with granular voltage definition.

Antutu battery saver is genius. on the pulldown notification it gives battery % (+battery added)
so like 100%((+30)
also clean master (which is a memory booster) doesn't run in background so it doesn't deplete battery as much as some others

i installed android booster, but also procured a brand new stock battery, and i actually am enjoying about 50-60% increase in battery life... although it still is not a lot (as far as i'm concerned!) after draining it, recharging to 100%, and then calibrating, i went 7 hrs 47 mins from 100% to 50% with normal use - calling, texting, some video, some gaming. not to bad considering my old battery would only last about 3 hours or less with the same kind of usage!!!

Check out DS Battery saver. I use it on my N7, catch is, to save battery it turns off all wireless signals. It also forces the device into deep sleep as well.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
well i wouldn't want ALL wireless signals to be disrupted. How would i receive phone calls lol
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Yea, if you get the paid version you can create custom profiles. It's a nice app for a tablet, but only so nice for a phone.

I have used it. Phone works (would be pointless otherwise as we already have the airplane mode).

I just started using "Auto3G" to turn off data and periodically cycle it on to check for emails, etc. I'm getting over 48 hours with mild use.

Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I'm using Trinity ELP file "ELP-G2x-06022012.zip", which has worked best for me as my G2X doesn't work that well with faux-based kernels. I'm also running dual boot with Maz's awesome JB rom with hardware acceleration - this is where I install games and experimental apps.

Thanks but.. What if you overclock the IC of the board (cpu+gpu) what if i LiveOC..?
I'm not sure if LiveOC affects the gpu , but I know certain kernels do! For instance, trinity overclocks your GPU (I'm not sure specifics, but you can look that up over in those forums). Marmite over clocks your CPU and GPU! Its super stable at 1096mhz/220mhz with a decent noticeable speed boost
