Help This Guy Out - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I Was Looking Thru Stuff On Google+, And Saw The Following Post. I Don't Have A Nexus S, But Still, Why Shouldn't I Try, Right? Anyways, I Will Show This Person The Posting If You Guys Have Any Suggestions. Thanks In Advance.
" My Google Nexus S phone got locked due to multiple wrong patterns. Data was off and even USB debug might be off. So, not be able to login to Google ackt. If I can get USB debug turned on somehow, I will be able to unlock the phone by Android Debug bridge.
Anyone has an idea on this?"

--- Enter your Google username and leave the password blank. This is known as entering a "null" password.
--- Enter your Google username without the "@gmail.com" domain name with your password.
--- Enter your Google username without the "@gmail.com" domain name with a null password.
--- Use another phone to call your Android. Answer the phone and push the "home" button followed by the "menu" button without hanging up. Sometimes, this combination will open the phone's settings so that you can disable the pattern lock.
--- Use another phone to call your Android. This time, hang up and immediately press buttons randomly as fast as you can for 30 to 60 seconds. Hit the "home" button last. This is another way to get into the phone's settings to disable pattern lock. Timing is key with this workaround; it might take several tries to get it right.
--- Gmail.com offers a password recovery routine. Most users report that it doesn't work for them, but it's worth a try. Start at the beginning and follow each step carefully.
--- As a last resort, set your phone back to its out-of-the-box condition using the factory-reset function.

Either way, if all else fails, you can bring your cellphone to your carrier and they will reset it for you.
Edit: Sorry if I offended you, it would be easier if the person joined here instead of throwing the ball back and forth. Thanks.

You're from L.A. (I'll imply you can speak and write decent English). Don't include a capital first letter for every word of your sentence.
Don't blame us if we suspect something fishy when your writing is subpar, and subpar writing often comes from not too educated larcenists. You wouldn't be the first nor the last person to try to bypass the security on a cellphone.

And yes, resetting to factory defaults will erase his personal data. That's the security idea, because phones security are not meant to be bypassed for someone to be able to access the user data.
Previously there has been a few ways to workaround the imposed limitations by shoddy ways, but I don't believe they are possible anymore.
If the person is rooted, there is a way.

He can turn off airplane mode by holding down the power button at the lockscreen and then selecting Airplane Mode from the Power Menu

[Q] is it possible to unlock samsung pattern lock by an upgrade

please help me
If your problem is too many pattern attempts try this.
Call the phone from another phone.
Answer the problem phone, hit the back key while call is still engaged. From there hit menu and go into settings. You may be able to remove pattern lock or do a factory reset. You will lose your apps etc but not your info on sd card. I fixed one for a friend with this method before. Might take a few goes to get it right.

That has't worked since before 2.1.......

PIN Security

Is there a way to set the time interval before the phone asks for your PIN. Right now it asks every time you unlock the phone. I cant seem to see any settings to change that.
Thanks.
unfortunately there is but will only work until 2.1 . Google locked down the API used to access lock settings in 2.2 and above so until they write it into the code themselves or reverse that decision it looks like your not gonna find what you need sorry.
Man, that sucks. Thanks for the detailed answer.

I use an app called: no lock
I have a pin set up for my sim card, so I only have to enter it when I reboot.
But with no lock, after you're at your home screen, run the app once, then there's no swiping, puzzle or pin to enter. Until you reboot again.

How to silence a call (not cut it) ?

[2 deep breaths]...
Okay, I have searched it but there was no answer corresponding to Atrix 2.
A call is coming and I want to silence it. I will not cut it because I dont want caller to know that I deliberately cut his call. In E71 there if I press right menu button, i can silence all calls (which stops vibration + ringtone in between). How do I do it for Atrix 2? This is not for all callers, I should be able to decide whose call I want to silent at that particular moment.
I dont want temporary/workarounds like keep it in silent mode/press volume button all the way downwards, etc. Thanks.
Press power button. Silences the call and locks the screen with out hanging up.

I am thinking of simple things first, make sure that you are not on maximum battery saver mode. Go to settings --> battery and data manager --> battery mode --> select the performance mode..
See if this solves the problem.. if it doesnt then let me know if you have installed any battery miser kind of apps.

Ok, will try that. Meanwhile, other issues:
1) I downloaded the facebook app. But it never logs in. It keeps on saying "loading". Similarly, when I try to sync social networking app/widget, youtube doesnt sync. It says "youtube sync failure". Why is that?
2) I recieve an SMS containing a mobile number. In E71, I could select the number and save it to a contact. This is not possible in Atrix 2. When I recieve an SMS containing a mobile number, there is no option to save it. This is the basic requirement of an SMS. Any ideas?

Pattern lock?
Is there a pattern lock feature for A2 like in case of galaxy s2 and iphone? If yes, how to enable it? All I have is number/passcode lock feature. In IPhone, the passcode is 4 digits and after that we dont have to press enter key, but in A2, i have to enter passcode and then press enter key (which is too much of extra pain).
Settings --> location & security --> setup lock screen --> pattern
Just dig into settings you will find everything you want.

Pattern option is "disabled by device administrator".
I see what is happening here. Since I had setup my phone to use my office email, i have having such problems like screen automatically shutting down and inability to use pattern lock !!
Thats my best guess.

yes, that is because you are now forced into a corporate security policy. No way around that unless you stop using your office exchange account on your device. an easier way is to forward your mail to gmail, and setup a way to do this over https. This is all on the gmail site, so don't ask how to do it in here.

This should have been the first thing that you posted, little info like this my friend is vital..
Android gives you freedom, use it and start exploring.. it doesnt mean that people here dont like noobs, everybody here started pretty much as noobs, i still consider myself a noob. But what everybody expects here is, do your bit before asking questions.. explore the your mobile, search the web, even then if you cant figure it out, then search the forums even if you cant find it then post your query.

All u hv2 do is to PLAY with ur fone dude ....
xplore everythin .... make mistakes (only when u hv powerful tool of flashing back ) ... try each n every settin
mistakes make u learn faster (not @all intention of lecturing u  )
So I installed a new sandisk 16gb card microSD card yesterday (after formatting it first in PC, then in phone) and put some songs in it. More problems started:
1) Randomly, the phone says "no sim card". I have to restart the phone to get my sim card working. This is frustrating.
2) When I woek up in morning, the phone was dead. Something drained the battery to 0%. Why?
3) The notification was automatically set to some random song. Why?
Have you tried taking out the memory card.. see if it solves your problem.. though few things are strange in your case, but take out your new memory card out.. and pls dont ask why because there are already ample threads on "class 10 memory cards not working with A2"

[APP] Avanos, the first guest mode for Android

One day when I was jogging, a little girl that looked scared and confused approached me. She couldn't find her mother and she asked if she could use my phone to call her. I thought to myself 'Sure, I'm helpful.' When I was waiting for her to finish her phone call, I noticed that she was swiping her finger on the screen. I was thinking to myself, 'Why does she need to scroll during a phone call?' I took my phone back and lo and behold, she was going through my pictures. I reprimanded her, telling her that she shouldn't be going through other's phones like that. I felt real bad that I had to take my phone back before she could find her mother, but what else was I supposed to do? It's not like there's an app that can do that.
That's when Avanos was born.
It's a simple phone dialer that locks the user in it so that no other app can be opened, fullscreen so that the notification bar cannot be accessed, It even closes the long home press automatically. It operates just like the built in dialer. After the person hangs up, it opens a password prompt that unlocks the phone and makes it go back to normal when the correct password is entered. I honestly think this is a revolution in Android. It can be helpful to coaches when kids that don't have phones need to call their parents, nice people who gives their phone out to others frequently, or as an everyday emergency phone.
So tell me what you guys think; I need the feedback.
Mod edit: No commercial advertising without free version.
Ooooh great idea!Congratulations!I wish i was an adult and could buy apps from play store.
Thank you

It seems like a great idea to me. You might want to edit your post since its missing the play store link.
I tried the reviewer version. Unfortunately running cyanogenmod nightly 7/27 for the Sprint gs3 it won't lock. Press the home button it goes home, long press and task manager comes up.
Long press also still works on the menu button to bring up search and back button to kill the app. Not sure if you can fix that though.
If it gets updated for cyanogenmod would definitely pay the 99 cents.

Bypass Samsung Account Galaxy S5 OK3 (Without PC and OTG)

Hello Guys... i recently got a Galaxy S5 from Ebay that unfortunately was locked by a Samsung account due an abnormal factory reset... there are many ways to bypass this on previous versions of android but unfortunately mine has the last update OK3.. After many attempts to bypass this I was about to give up until i got an idea that finally worked..
In the previous versions of android it was very easy to do it because you could open a web browser very easy but in this update the people of Samsung remove all these options... but... they forgot one...
1. Basically what you have to do is connect to a free WIFI from any store that request you a sign in... for example in my work we have a guest wifi that is free but in order to make it work you need to enter some information like your name and email address...
2. Once you get to this screen enter the information and accept everything so you can log in to the WIFI.. after that a web browser will open and that's what you need!! if the browser do not open just try to select any text and press the search button so you can open the browser..
3. Once the browser is open go to the Playstore webpage, after this the Playstore application will open.
4. Enter your Gmail account and search the app EASYTOUCH
5. Download the app and run it... this app will open a floating bubble in your screen that will allow you to open any app on your phone or go to settings etc...
6. After this you will be able to do anything you want on your phone, well almost anything lol.. you wont be able to receive any calls... but you can make calls receive sms and also send sms... something is something
7.. I suggest downloading a Launcher like Cheeta and a screen locker like CM LOCK. Sometimes the bubble from Easytouch disappear and you wont be able to do anything unless you restarts your phone.
As you can see the whole point of this is to open a web browser so you can install any app from Playstore that will let you use your phone "normally". If the browsers doesn't open just select any text as you were trying to copy it but instead of pressing the copy button press the search button...
I'm sorry if my explanation was not clear... English is my second language....
Wouldn't it be much better to return the defective item to the eBay seller on the grounds that it was probably stolen, and then buy one that works?

Yes and No... 99% of the time yes it was stolen... but there is nothing I can do about that, actually it will be a lot of of rework on my side... i will have to open a case in ebay.. wait tons of days... send the phone.. get a refund... buy another one... wait like another week.... So I decided to keep it.... yes it may be wrong buying stolen phones... but I think there are worst things than that and you wont stop doing them... so.... just keep an eye on yours so it doesn't get stolen...
