[Q] No GPS Functionality - HTC Desire S

Hi everyone. I've had my Desire S for over a year and I'm very happy with it except for one thing, the GPS doesn't work at all.
I'll be lucky to get 2 satellites after 2 minutes, and getting a lock at all is very rare.
I've tried the AGPS patch here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442032) and it hasn't helped, assuming I've done it correctly. It requires root which I hadn't done previously. I unlocked the bootloader with HTCDev, then used the superonclick to get root. I'm still S-ON though, does that matter? The Root Checker app says that I'm successfully rooted. I copied the two files across using ES File Explorer.
Is it possible that my GPS hardware is just faulty?
I'm more inclined to believe it's a software issue, because before I got Android 2.3.5 the GPS was fine, and it stopped working as soon as I got that update... would that be possible?
All advice greatly appreciated!
Edit: Also tried this 'tape over the connector' trick: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25128818&postcount=15
and the gps.conf for my country from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953630
No improvement

same here... most people said that it might be an broken gps antenna

htc wildifre with cyanogenmod 7.1.0.1-buzz - wifi non functional

hi there! i am new to this forum as registered member, but i've been often here in the previous months.
now i have a problem.
i have made an s-off and installed cyanogenmod a couple of months ago. the version was definetly 7 but i can't remember which one. back then i had problems with wifi and gps, none worked, but i googled it, and found that flashing the radio via clockworkmod helps. i used one of those standard versions of radio found on cynogenmod webpage. the versions 3.35.15.31, 3.35.19.25 and 3.35.20.10
and that solution not only made wifi and gps work again, but it made gps work better, it took total of 2 minutes to find satellites and get a good fix.
but two days ago i updated my cyanogenmod to 7.1.0.1-buzz and the problem appeared again. so, ok, i'll flash the radio again.
the first problem was the clockworkmot, since i upgraded it to ver 3, but i managed to downgrade it via rom manager and install the radio drivers (not sure if "driver" is a good term for it). but it helped only partially.
so i tried all three possible radio drivers, but all i managed is to make the gps work. it works fine, but when i try to connect to a network it gets stuck at "obtaining ip address", then it says "disabled" and tries to connect once again. and that goes in circle constantly!
i tried to google it, and search in this forum and several others, but i cant find the solution. always before i install the radio drivers i wipe the dalvik cache, but that doesn't help either. i tried it via rom manager, by rebooting into clockworkmod, i even tried to reset the phone, then wiping dalvik and then flashing radio, but that doesn't help either... does anybody have any idea how to fix my broken wifi? any help would be appreciated! thanks in advance!
p.s. should you need any info regarding my phone, just ask!
still nothing? guys... please... help!

Wi-Fi PROBLEM AFTER UPDATE TO 4.0.3

Hello to all!
Just want to create this thread hoping to help others
I am not a developer, but got my own unlock shop
My clients do bring many Sensation phones which have problem with Wi-Fi after update to 4.0.3
I did try all methods just to fix it:
1.JTAG soldering, repair boot, flash radio zone, changes hboot version. after flash with older software
2. Root the phone, install supersu, install Wi-Fi fix .apk
did solve many phones, but yesterday another client brought another phone with the same Wi-Fi problem.
I said to myself: easy tiger! perhaps there is another shortest way!
All I have done is: go into Bootloader Mode > Factory Reset & VIOLA!
After reset Wi-Fi works like a charm.
All I ask is, please. Who have sauch a problem, just do this step & confirm in this thread.
Kind Regards
Factory reset via bootloader mode works like a charm. Been having the same problem and doing factory reset under setting, but doesn't work. Thanks for the info man.

hello,
can you please tell me what did you just did in details cause i tried every thing i ddi't slove the wifi issu and what hboot you use ? firmeware, kernel, rom ... can you tell all that
Thank you
This is the most common problem encounter during the OTA updates. I would suggest install the right RUU if you want stock ROM its better than the OTA updates.
I had issues with the OTA as well, my phone would say no Sim card but when i placed it in another phone it worked just fine. T mobile support told me that the update did something that wouldn't allow non 4g sims to communicate with the device, I originally had the MyTouch4g. So i went over to a T mobile Store to switch my sim with a 4g sim out but the problem still remained the same. Called support again and they warrantied out my phone and sent me a replacement within 2 days. Just sharing my experience with OTA issue.

No Internet connection over wifi

Hey guys,
Today I've unlocked the bootloader on my HTC Desire S using HTCdev website, then I used SuperOneClick to root the device. Strangely when I press the volume-down and power buttons on the screen it says S-ON but when I try to run the SuperOneClick again it says that my device is already rooted. What's the difference between S-OFF and root access? Is there any?
But the real problem is that I don't have the Internet connection over wifi. It works on usb pass-through or mobile network. What's wrong?
I also installed CWM and using it I installed AGPS patch. I installed the the Google Specific build. I rebooted my phone and the Internet over wifi wasn't working. I just can't determine at which point it stopped working - after rooting the phone, after installing CWM or after installing the AGPS patch.
Then I realised that the patch I had installed wasn't the right one... So I installed the Google Specific CWM Flashable build. I thought it would help but no...
So what might be the problem? How can I fix this?
Thanks!
Could you help me, please?
I think that now I've messed up completely. I wanted to install a different radio on my HTC Desire S (from o2 UK) and now I don't have signal at all. Wifi connects to the hotspot but there is no connection. Damn it...
S-OFF means a unlocked bootloader. then you can flash 4Ext-Recovery which will bring you new ROMs to your phone.
rooted means only that you have root access to your exisiting ROM. The most of the ROMs are already rooted because some interesting apps like Titanium Backup, PDroid etc. only run on rooted devices.
to cut a long story short: try flashing REAPER rom, by which you can Turn GPS-Patches on an off by the in-built reaper tool.

[Q] Problems with GPS on JB ROMS

I've been trying multiple JB ROMs over the past few days and have been unable to get the GPS working. Specifically I've tried AOKP(4/7), Cyanogen10.1 (4/4 and 3/22), and codefireX SR19.
I've tried with and without the inspiremod+gpsfix. The GPS works on stock 2.3.3 so it isn't HW. I've tried swapping out the gps lib with other versions including from the stock rom.
I'm beginning to suspect the radio though other users seem to be using it with success (12.69a.60.29_26.17.14.11). I tried flashing another radio using the bootloader with PD98IMG.zip on the SD card, but the file either ditches instantly or hangs while parsing (I suspect this is a safeguard in the bootloader?). My device is not S-OFF (I arrived a bit late to that party), however I've read conflicting reports that you can do this without S-OFF using that method.
Everything is great, if I can just get the damn GPS to work. I've burned 8 hours running through options and I'm coming up empty. Hopefully one of you has some magic you can sprinkle on this issue.
In a last ditch effort I tried JellyTime 4.2 R6.1 and had some success. GPS works now. Perhaps it's a kernel issue. I am curious as to why that might be. This seems to be 4.2.1 instead of 4.2.2 so perhaps that has something to do with it.

[Q] HTC One XL GPS Problems 4.2.2

Hi, I was previously running Android 4.1.1 Venom XL ROM. I saw 4.2.2 Venom XL and decided to upgrade. The upgrade went smoothly, but I have two problems
GPS:
As soon as I reboot the phone everything works. After a few hours, suddenly the GPS will not work anymore. When you bring up programs that require GPS like Maps/Waze, it will not even look for satellites (no GPS icon shown). Once I reboot, things will be ok for a little while. I tried installing the GPS Status & Toolbox App and even when I open that App, it is the same behavior. It works after a reboot, but the GPS lookup does not happen after a few hours. It is big problem for me since I moved to a new state only 4 weeks back and have been highly dependent on the GPS to take me around. Anyone face this problem and have any suggestions? I tried the different options the GPS Status & Toolbox offered but none of them helped. Thanks for your help. Never had any issues with 4.1.1.
Weak signal:
I have seen suggestions of installing BeastMode Kernel or update the firmware to fix this problem and am yet to try this. Do I need to be S-OFF to install the kernel?
My HTC One X is rooted and I have supercid, but it is S-ON.
Thanks for any help in this regard.

No, you do not. The kernel solution is a good option, if you do not have S-off.
Although you should consider s-off, as its easy to do (especially if you already have adb set to go) and gives you more options for recovering (if you are SuperCID and S-on, a Jellybean RUU will brick you). As long as your understand that s-off means all security checks are off (and you therefore need to be careful of what you flash) s-off can be a very good thing to have.
Also, your GPS issue may be related to the signal issue, so kernel or 2.15 firmware fix might solve this as well as your weak signal issue.
Thanks. I did S-OFF, installed the new firmware, reflashed viper xl 4.2.2 rom and I am back in. So far so good. I hope GPS works ok. I was trying to download the latest 4.2.2 beastmode kernel form the following link:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/m53u563v2ql3818/beastmode_tester2.zip
posted on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45089267
Is this the official BeastMode kernel for 4.2.2? It says tester and that is why I ask. Also, I see no specific instructions of how to flash it. Is it just as easy as copy to sdcard and use recovery to flash? Can anyone please confirm?
EDIT: Found the updated link http://nosroms.com/?developer=Evita. But, if someone could still confirm the way to flash the kernel, that would be great.
Wipe cache/dalvik and flash kernel via recovery.
Sent from my One X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks. All set now. Looks like my GPS is working great :victory:
I hope that my the kernel does its thing and no signal drops.
Thanks for the help.
