Hello, I just got my htc one x at&t so I unlock it and try use my carrier. I fix setting for having internet with my carrier and everything is pretty smooth. The problem is that when I try update software I get:
”error
SERVICE UNAVAILABLE
check for software update under settings
when service is available”
trying to update I go menu->settings->at&t software update->check for updates
The thing is I don’t get anything like you have latest software or something like that.
Searching for answer I saw that many people said that changing sim worked for them…the thing is that I don’t have any other micro-sim (yesterday I change my mini-sim to mini micro-sim and I don’t have any other). So I came up with another idea.. trying to update without any sim in phone…but still I get some message so any idea???
ps: I can not use at&t sim I don’t live in usa just bought it from there.
Ok wow ..I'm going to provide this link for you and hopefully you can use it. No offense but it doesn't sound like you know what you are doing....please becareful with your phone so as not to perma brick it

Btw that is a normal message that sometimes occurs. So what version Rom and hboot are you. Please ask or read up. To do a carrier ota you have to have SIM card .

The link you gave me is the first thing i read before i even reacieve the phone!
The phone bought throught a person wich had it as a upgrade from his carrier so he check it works and sell it,so how i can check for 100% its not root?(Just for the 1% something is wrong).
If you are not in the US, that is probably the reason you cannot download the OTA. You typically need to be in the proper country to get OTAs.

AFAIK, there are only SIMs, Micro-SIMs, and nanoSIMs (Apple properietary). I don't know what you are talking about with mini SIM or mini Micro SIMs.

If you are not on the current AT&T 2.20 firmware (if you are still on 1.73 or 1.85), and have any desire to root and flash custom ROMs, I would suggest not updating by OTA. Instead, root and unlock the bootloader now. 2.20 firmware updates the hboot, which plugs the hole by which kernels and radios can be flashed from recovery.
If you still want the official 2.20 firmware, just go to HTC's website and download the RUU for the AT&T version of the One X (download to your PC, and run it with the phone connected by USB). OTAs don't typically work if you are not in the intended country (USA). RUU will wipe the phone, but in my opinion, this is a cleaner/better install anyway and will cause less issues, which often happen with OTAs.

That's what i was saying about micro mini sim.(pic)
So i end up that i will work my mobile one month to see it runs smooth, i mean no need to use my warranty and then (after my exams) when i have time i will spend one day to read the [index] which you upload..and then i will flash the latest stock rom rooted!
One more question, flashing many roms (i did that one on my previous htc desire bravo) means installing the apps you usually use many times is there a trick to put your apps instant to the new room i mean without instaling them one at a time throught play store??
Thanks a lot!

Interesting, I just looked it up on Wikipedia. I didn't actually didn't know a full sized SIM was about the same size as a credit card. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subscriber_identity_module#Formats
Of course, these haven't been used in a long time, so most people just call a mini-SIM a "SIM".
For practical purposes, GSM phones use either SIM (mini) or Micro-SIMs. With the exception of the latest generation of Apple products, which use nanoSIMs.
If you have a nano-SIM, you can buy an adapter to insert it into your One X.

Titanium Backup, which can be found on the Play Store. It will restore your apps and app data. Highly recommend the paid version, as you can batch restore all your apps after a ROM flash.

Well at the moment we don't have a free way of doing that without S off. But you can easily and cheaply purchase a "unlock code" online. Just Google it

No, root does not give you SIM unlock.
As the previous response already said, there is currently no free way.
Thank u guys for replying....
Btw wat is bootunlock?? Just for knowledge
Bootloader unlock gives you the ability to flash custom ROMs, custom recovery, radios, kernels, etc. You don't have access to those partitions otherwise, even with root.
You can get unlock codes for 4 $

Call your carrier and get the unlock code. that won't cost a penny.
If that won't work, Using IMEI number see if can be unlocked in cellunlocker.net, It has free checker. If it can be unlocked you can buy unlock codes from ebay for less than 4 USD
Hello,
I have recently bought from eBay a beautiful new HTC One SV and I wonder why I cannot receive the latest 4.2.2 upgrade through OTA.
I asked the HTC support in UK and they told me the phone is branded Virgin UK and I have to wait for them to release the upgrade. But I read on other post that the upgrade is already available from Virgin mobile.
I tried to unlock the phone, doing several factory reset, changed the sim to a different provider, but no success... Now the phone is re-locked.
This is the current configuration:
sw: 2.14.401.6
CID: HTC__001
Android version: 4.1.2
Can somebody please help me to get the latest 4.2.2 update?
Thanks!
Alberto

Hi Modding.MyMind,
Thanks for your answer. I have tried yes, several times but no success... It always says your sw is the latest version.
When I switched on the phone the first time, there was a system update of about 34Mb and nothing more.
The sw is still 4.1.2.
You may need to sit and be patience then. Sometimes a new device that has been activated needs to be processed in the system through their database. Not sure how long you have had your device activated though. I would think at most, a week (and that is pushing it lol).

If the update is already available for your device with virgin mobile then I would assume someone has already provided a download link for the ota. However, I don't have it, but I would suggest downloading it if you can find it and attempt that route.

I have activated the phone about 3 weeks ago... Where do you think can I find the right OTA? And how can I install it manually?
Thanks!
Android ruu. Google that. There is a website by that name. Scroll down to K2 and select the link. There you can find OTA's. Though, I do not know if it has the one you need honestly. Also, check out @old.splatterhand index thread. You would need to place it on your internal sdcard and then reboot. If the right one you should get a notification at the top of your phone.

In my opinion, this the available "free" software of an unbranded phone.
Regarding htcdev.com, Virgin mobile Software number should be 2.14.652.6 or 2.14.351.6 (if i'm not totally wrong).

Put the update on your device's SD card and flash it from within recovery (TWRP, CWM, possibly stock)
I don't think you can flash OTA zips through custom recovery....
Not unless you know what you are doing when modifying it lol. But lets keep it simple

Fair point. So, with stock recovery installed, we could apply from sdcard or apply from phone storage
Internal sdcard (phone storage)
Sent from my C525c using Tapatalk
---------- Post added at 11:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:49 PM ----------
An OTA is downloaded in the /storage/sdcard0/Download/ directory and once applied it is removed. However, if saved and not applied it will remain there. Anyways, that is the location where it is normally stored when you get that notification (assuming it is the proper OTA).
Sent from my C525c using Tapatalk

But I would think that being on the root of the internal sdcard is fine. Though personally have not given that a go for myself so I am only guessimating on that one lol.

---------- Post added at 11:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:53 PM ----------
Actually, now that I think of it.... Stock recovery comes with a prebuilt feature very similar to CWM. So with that said, guess the location wouldnt necessarily matter if applied that way.

New Cricket / AIO / AT&T Overlords Moto G Android 4.4.3 Still Waiting....
I have no faith that att will allow the update as the newer moto 4g lte will be out soon...
so i guess that no one on att's aio / new cricket cares about the 4.4.3 update?
I have no faith that it will be released in this country on any carrier other then the unlocked versions that are carrier anogistic aka the international versions. Well i guess lenovo will not let moto do the update for non google play editions... and att can care less. they would love for us to just buy new phones at full price to get the latest os... also would be great to have sd card slot... phone is limited with out for playing games... i want a 128gb microcdxc

They'll probably update it, because it fixes a root exploit that gives you freedom to do some fun stuff.
Remember, they have to modify it so you don't have wifi tether. I got sick of that and got an unlocked one. Never again.

I also am thinking about getting an unlocked one and selling the AIO/Cricket one. I didnt do my research first, so I found out the afterward that the damn bootloader cannot be unlocked on the at&t moto g. What a crock.
I rooted using twrp openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.1-trltetmo.img.tar via Odin 3.07, and installing UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.16.zip from the SD .

Correct me if I'm wrong, but trltetmo is for T-Mobile, isn't it?
FYI - this method does not work on retail phones . . . at least for me.
We probably won't see root until our boot loader is unlocked by Verizon.
Mine is dev and was a quick easy root exactly as stated.

Also on sammobile the link for the Verizon stock is broken all I get is a 404 when I click it... now I've done it lol.
Gonna try this method on Tuesday, when I get mine...Thx!

So will this work for the retail version too or only the dev edition? Thanks for any clarification! :fingers-crossed:

Can you use my backups? I have the stock and the rooted. I will send them to you if you want to recover with them. Maybe check your Sim card too.

Thank you! It was what I dreaded, but I'll keep hope alive! lol UGH.
Verizon has spent a ton of money locking down their bootloaders, there has been a bounty for the galaxy s4 bootloader for quite some time now (think we are in the third year or more) even if root comes to the retail version (hard to see that since the only root methods currently involve flashing something with odin) it is even less likely any of them will see custom roms. that is unless someone picks up the safestrap project as i last heard it was dropped. Dev editions are going to be the new norm for anyone on verizon, gonna be the only way to get custom anythings.
that said has anyone been able to extract their stock recovery or make a backup of the stock image from their dev edition? at this point i'd be like forever your BFF if you could get me back to stock since KIES wont work and samsung support doesnt even know the Developer Edition is on sale yet...... let along can they get me a stock recovery image lol....
also i just inboxed you @ffr3245 i am not sure if ti will work, but at this point i'd try just about anything.
I can not get these to upload!!! Anyways, I found docugod's post where he had uploaded his recovery image which is stock without root from Note Edge Developer Ed. Thanks go to him. With that being said, you should not have any problems using that recovery image. But as always do so at your own risk. And for anyone else reading.......This is for the Note Edge DEVELOPER EDITION, it is NOT for the retail Verizon one.

Hey guys, I recently purchased a second hand Galaxy S6 (not an Edge variant) and I'm curious as to how exactly, I go about rooting it in order to unlock it. I remember rooting my S3 was relatively straight forward, but this seems a little more complex partly due to just how many options there are for all the different models.
I'm on Android 5.1.1, and my build number is currently: LMY47X.G920FXXU3QOJF
If anybody could point me towards a relevant guide or provide a little more information, that'd be awesome. Cheers!
Get into downloadmode, flash a kernel with autoroot via Odin. Reboot and congratulations ^^

Neat, thanks for the response!
Would this Kernel suffice? http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...nt/kernel-hacker-kernel-s6-universal-t3254487
Also, as a result, would this make my phone automatically unlocked from all network carriers?
You can use that kernel. I use SpaceX kernel. They are both with autoroot.
I dont know if it unlock all network carriers. I think phone can already support different ROM's from different carriers.
I flashed for example French ROM. And now im on the official dutch again

I managed to get it working. For those who are curious, this is a great video that illustrates exactly what to download and from where, depending on your region.
Now that I'm rooted, however, does anybody have any idea how to unlock my device?
Try a Nexus 6P

Great answer!
Seriously though, considering I just bought this, and Nexus 6Ps are about 200 more here, that's not really an option.

I wouldn't waste my hard earned money on Nexus Junk. And make no mistake, they are all junk.

Have you tried calling EE? I think they'll do it for a small fee.

I'd rather this not turn into a 'what device is better' thread, please.
And I'm gonna go into their store today and see what they can do for me. Apparently, it's only £8.99 for an unlock, I just wondered if there existed any free method.
