How to add an APN (rooted 4.1.1) - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Im in Costa Rica on vacation and I just upgraded my wifes Verizon S3 to 4.1.1 in order to unlock the GSM capabilities of the phone. I placed a Costa Rican sim card in the phone and voice calls work great. I have paid for a data plan on the SIM card, but I can not get data to work.
I was told by the phone company here to set my APN to 'kolbi3g'. Unfortunately there is no option to to add an APN.
I just rooted my phone, and I still have no option to add an APN.
When I go to More settings -->Mobile Networks --> APNs and I click the menu button all I get is "Reset to default". With a rooted phone there has to be a way to set the APN
Any help?
Sidenote- I have a rooted RAZR MAXX, and voice and data work great
Thank you

1. Get apn manager pro.
2. Get titanium backup pro.
3. Install both and then make apn manager pro a system app in titanium backup.
Remember they both have to be pro version for it to work

Awesome I will try this today. Thank you...
I would love to be able to do this instead of going through the hassle of installing a custom ROM.

With or without a custom rom you still have to do this.
Also there is less hassle using a custom rom like clean rom or synergy or beans imo.

That worked!!!! Thank you so much

[Q] (noob) Help, tried flashing cm10.1 and now I dont have cell signal or data

So I am a noob but have successfully flashed a few roms onto my phone with no issue. Today I tried to flash cm10.1 and all hell broke loose. I flashed cm10.1 though clockworkmod (now I know that was not correct) and then reset everything and did it though bootrecovery. I also flashed the gaaps and now I do not have data or local cell service. It is showing that I am roaming (like i am out of the country) and asking me if I want the data on and would be charged for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, at this point I have a phone that I cannot use. Thank you in advance

Won't Activate Mobile Data (Sprint)

Hey all. I flashed my first rom today and its just stuck on "activate mobile data service". If I press skip, it would be able to make calls but no 3g data. I took out the sim card and still no luck. There is no APN settings on the mobile options. Not sure what to do here.

Call Sprint (using a phone other than your Nexus 5) and ask them to re-provision your data. This happens quite frequently on other devices also after flashing a new ROM with Sprint service.
Just keep in mind that neither Google or Sprint have to support the custom ROM. While they may not know that you are on the custom ROM, I would just put it back to stock and see if it work first.
I found the fix. There's a flashable apn zip for sprint that got me data.

verizon s3 metropcs mms fix

this is to fix mms messaging on metropcs flashed verizon galaxy s3. place zip on sdcard, reboot into recovery and flash the zip then reboot. once phone boots up go to settings, more settings, mobile networks, access point names. you will see lte-verizon internet apn click on it to activate apn then reboot. once booted back up send yourself a mms message, it may hang on sending/pending if so turn on airplane mode, then turn off airplane mode and all should be good. this was tested on 4.1.2 with verizon sim in the phone. with non-verizon sim or no sim in had to use apn manager to activate apn
extremely huge thanks to mrctony for being so awesome to mail me a test s3 to develope this fix u rock man
Update: now added 4.3 test zip. The 4.3 zip is for DEODEX ROM ONLY pls post results.

Yeah, it might be something with CM11 then, it doesn't happen all the time but I get it quite often since CM11.
I also get 3g data drops, and I have to restart in order to get it again,I hope CM11 fix that soon.
Thanks for your response.

Hey everyone, I have flashed many Sprint variants to MetroPCS but never a Verizon. Is the process the same? Does the SIM slot need to be unlocked?

Verizon phones usually are factory unlocked but that doesn't matter for flashing it that only matters if u want to put it on metropcs gsm. As for flashing its basically the same but verizon u will prob have to enable hidden menu and when u flash connect to it send spc and set it to nv only then reboot then reconnect write prl and flash as normal

Straight Talk APN Settings??

Hi everyone, Im hoping someone knows the apn settings for our S3. Ive tried going to Straight Talk's website to the get apns that way and it just gives me an error saying that if i am using a sprint of cdma phone then i dont have to update my APN. one problem with that. theres no APNs in the list at all. My s3 was running 4.1.2, but i have recently rooted it and flashed Gummy 4.4.4 to it. still a locked bootloader though. any ideas or help with the APN will def be appreciated
You'll need to use a third party messaging app and enter the APN info in the apps settings. I work recommend 8sms for a close to stock experience. In the MMSC section of the APN settings you'll need to enter "http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms" without quotes.

I have the SCH-S968C, the Samsung S3 for Straight Talk. and your pastebin link helps but i downloaded the apn backup and restore application and tried that but an error popped up saying that it was supported with Android 4.0+.
I lost data the first time I flashed CM and the only way I could get data back was by restoring from an unbrick image. Have you tried going back to stock? There are directions on another XDA thread on how to use APN backup and restore with Kit Kat roms but the APN settings don't seem to take on this phone.

I dont want to go back to stock is the thing lol is it all KK roms? ive only tried flashing the Gummy 4.4.4 and ive been using it. I tried to flash PACman rom but it boot looped my phone to the point i had to restore using Verizon's Update and restore program.
I am currently on stock but have successfully flashed CM, Pacman, PA and SlimKat. When I first lost data I restored to stock which restored data and the next time I flashed a KitKat ROM it worked fine.

Its been a month since the no data problem started with our phone and CM and since trickled down to PA and slim ect ect.. You should be fine with most roms before Aug.
