That's an on-contract price, unlocked will set you back for around $650 (Rs 33000 approx) Sorry

On contract means you'll have to sign a contract of 1 or two years with AT&T and the monthly bill will be no less that $60 for that time, after the competion of the contract, the phone will be yours

As you all know the iPod has a load of apps, that's it, that's where apple kicks ass, but I would choose the note 2 over the iPod any day... I'm just sick of the ****ing iPod/iphone anything that begins with the letter I

Buying on-contract is similar to buying the phone with a postpaid connection + EMI here in India (like Reliance used to offer long back when they started - 500 rupees phones). Most of the cost of the phone might be split as pseudo-EMI's in your monthly postpaid bill and you can't cancel the connection for the contract period (usually 2 years). Since you've to buy the on-contract phone with a connection - you won't be able to buy that through bestbuy as that would require you to submit the documents and application for a new connection in US.
Apart from that, most of the on-contract phones can be used as an MID / media player, but given that you've to pay the bill for a connection every month, there is no reason you would want to use it without the connection
Your android alternates for ipod touch are Samsung Galaxy Player models / cheap locked or bad ESN smartphones from ebay (locked phones / bad ESN phones tend to cost lower because its difficult to make them work with phone calls & data, but since you won't be using the calls / data, that's a good option.)

It would be better to buy the iPod touch 5 since it is small and easy to carry. It even has a good camera, siri, etc. Also, it should fit your budget.( if u have a budget) And if u do buy the Note 2, don't buy At&t version; instead buy the unlocked one.

galaxy s2

Hi , At&t is offering me galaxy s2 for $230 as an early upgrade offer. my contracts ends in nov 2012, so if i take this upgrade offer, my contract would end in nov 2013, should i go ahead with this or wait for some new phones in june/july.
There will always be a better phone coming out in a few months. If you wait for summer, it will be the holiday season.
Samsung sold over 10 million GS IIs before selling a single one in the US.
Any flaw, what so ever insignificant, in the captivate is fixed in the GS II. It feels amazing in hand, super smooth and fast, plus there is already 7 different ROMs, and it hasn't been out a month yet.
You cannot go wrong with the GS II. Go into the store and play with it. After two weeks I have yet to find a flaw, or a way to make it lag, or hesitate.
My question for you is: how do I get att to let me renew a year early? (For next time)
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)
AT&T is letting me upgrade a year early also. Pretty sure it's not a full discount upgrade, or what, but my contract isn't up until 2012.
the original retail price is $199 and they are offering me for $230. I just called customer care and asked for an upgrade for s2 they gave the above option...this is with a 2 year contract....

Don't do it! You'll feel ripped when the SGS 3 comes out, Think about how long the SGS 2 has been out outside the USA..... Or you can can get the GS2 as it is one of the greatest phones out there right now and it flies like the wind.

My contract ends in January 2012, but I got a Galaxy S II off-contract.
The thing's AMAZING!! Super light, amazing screen, extremely fast, the best in every aspect.
The price is not, it's $599 off-contract. But do what I did, scout craigslist and find people who are selling it new in box at a good price, or sell your captivate, or trade.
The deal I scored was $360 + hacked Motorola Backflip, and I have a spanking new Galaxy S II.. Just don't deal in a bad neighborhood and always make sure it's the Galaxy S II (Say's it on the back)
Save your contract/upgrade for the Galaxy S III

Patience and Negotiation my friend. There are people out there that just want to sell the phone and one needs to take advantage. Did the same thing for the original Galaxy S (Captivate), got it new in box for $350 when it was $599 at the time.
does the galaxy s2 with live wallpaper make the phone slow down when scrolling through apps?
what I wanted todo was..take the early upgrade option now and take it early next time to..by doing this I will have a new phone for a cheaper price...

It does not lag at all, it's buttery-smooth and shows no sign of lag considering the powerful specs and the hardware-accelerated browser, launcher, and touchwiz applications.

You get a faster upgrade cycle (discounted upgrades every year) if your bill is over a certain amount per month, which I think is around $100

That stopped this year. They changed it, from 12 months to the normal 20. After upgrading in September, I next qualify 5/2013. That's why I was curious how he got them to budge at all. I have another line that qualifies in December (start date 4/2010, never renewed), and the phone broke, I tried in store and over the phone, they won't let me upgrade early without adding like $100 to the price of the phone, not the gentle $30 the OP got.

The new LTE phone is not worth it considering that it sports a slower processor, and LTE isn't widely implemented

I have always had an 18-month upgrade cycle with them, $75 "earlier than that" option. But, I've been with them since the Cingular era courtesy of corporate discounting.

I was with att wireless, before they were Cingular, with a corporate sponsorship this whole time. In the past I have had 18 or 12 month cycles too. The att store told me they changed the policy a few months back so all future renewals are not eligible until 20 months. I'm ecstatic with my phone now, so it doesn't matter now, but if in a year I can upgrade for only an extra $30, I'll be all over that. Maybe by then the LTE phones will have battery life worked out, and my area will have LTE

I was talking to one of the managers at my local AT&T store and he was saying that he could upgrade me early and renew my 2 year contract, he said I would get the phone at the 2 year contract price, the only catch was I had to buy $200 worth of accessories to go with it. Of course he pointed out the the Jawbone Jambox is $200. I might use it for the Skyrocket that's coming out, I'm just having a hard time parting with my Cappy.

June 20th ....SGS3 T-Mobile

You may have already heard the news released today about the Samsung Galaxy S3 arriving in stores on June 20th (fingers crossed ) but I thought I would post it for others to see. T-Mobile also has included release dates for a few other phones like the Galaxy Note (way too big ) and the Mytouch line of devices. The fallowing information has been provided by TMOnews.
Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB Metallic Blue – June 20th
Samsung Galaxy S III 32GB Metallic Blue – June 20th
T-Mobile myTouch (Huawei Phoenix) – July 11th
T-Mobile myTouch (Huawei Buddy) – July 11th
Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB Ceramic White – July 11th
Samsung Galaxy Note – July 11th
* I got my eye on the Blue 32gb. SGS3....(Pebble Blue)
What are you all thinking?
July 11th for me, not wasting my time with the blue version. White is just too pretty.
Hope they release the radio for the note before the release of the t-mobile note. I just don't see myself rockin a smaller screen lol

Not sure about price...How much does a Note go for on other networks? Probably similar pricing? I bought my SGS2 for full price the day it came out and I kicked myself for doing so. I had the MT4G in one hand and the SGS2 in the other, what am I supposed to do? lol....I called T-Mobile this afternoon to check on my upgrade status. and what do ya know? This June I will be due for a full upgrade, just in time for the worlds greatest smartphone aka SGS3. Or until a better phone drops 2 weeks later....haha. My guess is no less than $600.00, and who knows about the difference in price from the 16gb to the 32gb? I cant imagine it being over a 100 dollar difference between the two, but what do I know. Our luck it will be like $850.00 or something ridiculous...
T-mobile is notorious for making you pay way too much for a phone even when you have a full upgrade available. Needless to say I'll be waiting to see reviews and developments before I jump onto any of these, even though the galaxy III is calling my name.

The last time I bought a phone, upgraded, and added a 2 year contract on my plan was when I got a Blackberry Curve 8900 right around when the phone came out for close to $300. I've been using a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone I bought from a friend up until I got my S2 about 6 months ago. I paid $400 dollars (With a $50 dollar rebate, whoopdeedoo...) out of pocket with an obvious full upgrade at a T-Mobile store not an "Authorized" reseller. Close friend of mine paid the same amount as me shortly afterwards.
I would have much rather have paid the glorious $99 dollars you paid. Did you get it during a promotion?

I got my TMO Sensation 4G in 8/2011 and it cost me $229 up front. Was supposed to be $249, but the salesclown screwed up and initially said $199. I was going to walk away, then he offered a bit less and I took it since I really wanted the Sensation. My big mistake, picking the phone first instead of the carrier. I didn't realize TMO coverage is not so hot here in Vegas. I will be switching to either Verizon or Sprint in 14 months unless TMO dramatically upgrades their coverage.

Just found my receipt, the breakdown looks like this.
Phone price - $279.99 (Discount - Normally $499.99)
Sales Tax - $43.59 (Based on the full price of the phone)
Upgrade Fee - $18.00
Upgrade Fee Tax -$1.58
Total = $341.58
I feel molested after hearing you paid a whopping $99 dollars....

What part of town? The Sensation 4G has mediocre reception, I had one. T-Mobile's biggest problem is EDGE coverage, not a total lack of. Thankfully after two years of them basically stopping any major investments in the Las Vegas area, they are picking back up again. Mountains Edge just got 4G HSPA+ instead of the 3G it was on.
Dude I can't wait!!!!!

Advice on Contract Upgrade

Hey guys, didn't find a specific topic for this so thought I'd stick it in the universal 'General' section
Quick advice:
My phone upgrade is due on February 2013, I've currently got the HTC Evo 3D. I was planning on getting the HTC butterfly on EE's 4G network (once it comes to the UK) even though their network prices are ridiculously high.
However as the company I work for are promoting EE, we're getting an offer which will allow us to get 40% discount on any of their 24 month tariffs. Which means I can get a £46 or £51 contract for about £31-33. If I do go for it they can buy my remaining contract months out.
The only downfall is I don't want the current phones that are out in the market at the moment. So should I go for it and get the iPhone 5 for now (deal with their boring UI for a couple of months) and sell it when the phone i want comes out and buy that one.
These are the EE 4G phones that are available: http://shop.ee.co.uk/mobile-phones/pay-monthly/
Or should I just wait it out and get a contract once the phone comes and hope the standard 4G prices go down
What would you do?
Anyone?

[Q] selling contract cellphone without cancelling the contract?

I just bought a galaxy s3 2 months ago (t mobile) in contract 2 years. I don't like it. I have my old phone as well. I put the sim from galaxy into my old phone activated it same number and all and it works fine. Now I have a new galaxy s3 here that I am not using at all. Can I sell it without the buyer having any problems activating it? Will it still be attached to my account. Not sure how this works. I have never did this before
I know this is prob a dumb ? but i just wanna make sure before I sell it.
The phone would be carrier-locked to tmobile and probably to your account. Im guessing you paid a subsidized price for it, like $100, and it's so cheap because they intend to recoup the actual cost over the life of your contract. Contact them and see what they have to say.
I have AT&T. I had a galaxy s3, loved it but wanted the note 2, so I bought a note 2 for full price. I then sold my s3 to someone who was also on att and everything was okay. I just wiped the s3, factory reset it, and took out my sim.

Full price, meaning several hundred dollars? Sounds like you would lose the subsidy on a second phone?

Need Help... Time to Switch Phones.

Hi All,
I am currently looking at changing my phone. Finally have a little financial back up to get one. I am interested in getting the Galaxy S III or Note II.
But i do not want to go for the dual core version of S III that is widely available. Since there are so many models of the internationally available. Can you let me know which S III models are available internationally can support LTE in USA? I see there is GT 9305 which supports LTE but its frequencies don't match the US carriers.

I was going over some calculations and information websites, prepaid plans are better over a period of 2 year contracts. Saves you a lot of dough!
About the Nexus 4, that battery thing again nails it for me! :crying:
You have to buy your phone outright though huh ?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Yup. But
Look at it this way... $150 for S3 now, which you can get for $600. So that is a difference of $450. But on the plans i save $45 a month average. I am talking about unlimited talk text and 2 GB LTE plan. Contract for that would be $119 per month IIRC. Which would be $65 on prepaid. The difference covers up in 10 months and the rest 14 months you would be saving.
Plus no hassle of breaking terms, switching carriers, selling it for a decent price and whatever.
I'd go for the s3 unless your comfortable with a bigger phone then I'd go for the note 2. Both are very hackable and very good phones.

Well on sprint you could get unlimited data unlimited calls to any cell and unlimited text for about $83 a month and currently get the s3 for $100 and if your a member at a credit Union and get a $100 port in credit

The best phones out there right now, in my opinion is the S3 and the Galaxy Note 2. I would get one of those or wait for a couple of months for some of the newer phones to release.
