Thats not what i was thinking of. On my Sensation or HP Touchpad, i dont have to do something like that at all. All i do is start viewing a flash video either from youtube or another streaming page and the screen doesnt go off untill the video is over.
Thanks for the tip though. I was doing it already till something better comes along. Its just so annoying going back and forth to settings/display everytime i want to watch something online.
Does anyone else have a solution for this problem?

You could always use tasker....

I have the P5113 and have had this happen. I fixed mine by the screen timeout and/or use a different browser. Due to the flash Android issue watching flash doesn't over ride the sleep timer, just like music you have to change the sleep timer. I have had luck with firefox not sleeping as well as UC.
Thank you all for your suggestions. I have one more question. Do people that use cm10 or aokp as rom have the same problem?

One thing that really turns me away from Google Music is that there's no option to keep the screen on. I use a car dock and I hate to unlock the screen to change the song. :banghead:
I'm using PowerAmp right now, but I want to use Google Music. I want to like it, I really do, if there's any way to fix this please let me know.

You can use an app like Tasker to set your timeout to "infinite" when you have Google Music on. That way, your screen will always stay on as long as Google Music is running and when you exit the app your timeout settings should return to the way they were.
If you are also charging the device while in the car dock another option would be go to settings display & gestures and check the 3rd box down stay awake then the screen will not turn off while on charge. Sorry if I'm stating something that you already new just wanted to throw it out there

Thanks! I've been looking into Tasker but I'm afraid of the reviews saying it's extremely hard to learn.

I tried this before but the thing is, I don't want my screen staying on all night if something happens or it wakes to the lock screen somehow. Isn't that bad for the screen? Burning the image or something?

It's not hard to learn at all if you're only looking at basic functionality (like...if this is open, do this, this, and this). It's really intuitive. If you just play with it for like 30 minutes you'll know enough to get yourself going.

I use my phone as my alarm clock on my night stand with the app called deskclock + which has a night mode so I never had to worry about damaging the screen.

I say go with Tasker. Especially if you're going with something as rudimentary as "when google music is playing, keep the screen on" you shouldn't have any issue creating this task.
Not too familiar with the ROMs or mods available for this device, but if there's an AOSP lockscreen mod, or a ROM that offers the AOSP lockscreen (maybe through a Tweaks app?), you should get music controls on the lockscreen, so you can skip/pause from the lockscreen, without unlocking
All of a sudden my screen refuses to rotate I have no idea what the issue is screen rotation is turned on so it should work but won't. It still works in the camera app but nothing else will.

Just put if curiosity which screen were you trying to rotate? Which app or screen were you in?

I am having the same problem with mine. The screen works in all the apps I use that support screen rotation but the home screen does not rotate. I have tried everything in the previous posts and still cannot get it to work.

I'm pretty sure you need to use a 3rd party launcher to get the home screen to rotate.
I use Nova Launcher & that rotates the home screen just fine.

Any app that supports screen rotation YouTube, messages, setting, Firefox, stock browser, pretty much everything I tried. Screen rotation was turned on the whole time and I'm running complete stock not rooted no rom or 3rd party launchers. The only thing that fix it was removing the battery while rebooting and a factory reset did nothing.

Have you tried a factory reset? Maybe something in your system is corrupted.

Screen wouldn't rotate
I tried everything and the only thing that would allow it to rotate in apps like dolphin browser and you tube was to pull battery. I am rooted and custom rom i tried reinstall of rom and also factory reset and nothing. Thanks for the reminder of pulling the battery, was so use to donig this on my t-bolt. I haven't needed to do this since then just forgot to even try it.

Hey everybody...
I just got a new note & everything is excellent except that I've been noticing some weird flickering in the screen... Its not even flickering, its more like it goes dark for milliseconds & its not that frequent. Should i be conserned or its a software issue... does anyone have such an issue?

Have you got auto brightness enabled? If so try manually setting the brightness, also check your screen timeout in setting /display set it to a 1min not 15secs

Auto brightness is off. The same issue is happenning with my galaxy s3.

I dont think it is. Because on the home screen & some apps like youtube the issue is nonexistent, Strange

I have not seen this issue yet. Had mine since launch.

After some testing I found out that the screen issue is related to some apps only such as chrome & xda's app. Most other apps work just fine such as s note, photoshop, youtube, all games & the home screen shows no flickeri g whatsoever.

I have seen this, I was worried but it is very difficult to return my unit as it is a grey import.
I totally didn't notice that it went away after changing screen timeout to 1 minute. Battery life is good enough to easily cope with this.
Setting back to 15 seconds to see if it re-occurs.
fyi, I leave brightness auto.

I can confirm that the problem is solved. The whole issue is that some apps are conflicting with the hover function for the s pen. Once you disable that function in settings all becomes completly normal without any issues.

I have the similar issue on my Note 10.1 - the browser is the biggest 'flasher' and it seems random. I called Samsung support - They had me reset to factory and the issue went away, but eventually came back. I don't want to have to keep resetting to factory as that is painful for me to reconfig everything and I tend to believe that if I restore to ClockWorkMod backup, the issue will still be there.
Hi.
l had the same problem earlier. Simply deactivate the hovering S - Pen icon, and voila!

Same problem here turning off the pen hover will report back if it works cheers
My daughter loves to watch YouTube videos but she's only 20 months old and doesn't understand the fact that if she touches the screen the video will stop. She also will reorganize my home screen and erase my contacts. Is there an app that will allow me to disable the touchscreen through use of the camera or volume buttons? I really want to let her hold onto my phone without having to figure out what she has messed with and all that jazz.

I've been on the hunt for an answer for a few weeks. I'm using CM11 nightlies and when I'm watching a video in the browser my screen dims and eventually shuts off as if nothing was playing. I did see a few people post with the same issue in a few threads but that's about it. I thought it would eventually be fixed but it doesn't seem to be a common issue. Only happens in the AOSP browser and I just clean flashed everything before posting. So it can't be because of the dirty flashes. Anyone have any idea what gives?

Well, they are called "Nightlies" for a reason...
Does it happen with other browsers? It might be the browser's fault.
Don't think its an issue with your ROM. Completely stock and the same happens to me watching any embedded videos.

Browsers are certainly a personal preference. If you're dead set on using that particular one, then I would suggest something along the lines of using the Xposed Framework and the module App Settings: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2437377 You can use this to keep the Browser (or other apps) to not time out, but just the apps you select instead of just doing a generic leave the screen on for 10 minutes at a time. Or, if you use ART, or don't care to mess with Xposed, then something along these lines: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nbondarchuk.android.keepscn&hl=en should work for what you want. Basically you can just set it to keep the screen on as long as you are looking at the phone (FFC) then it'll stay on - ala Samsung.
