Hi guys,
Last night after flashing a kernel my phone was stuck in boot loop..so I turned off the phone and connected to charge, morning I saw that whole night it was in loop.
Later fixed the loop issue, but now no matter which rom I am on the place where the icon dock is it flickers and has a shadow of Samsung logo I can relate this to the boot loop that caused burnt pixel.
If I keep brightness to the lowest it is not visible yet the moment wallpaper is a light colour and brightness is high it is visible, I want yo know your opinion is it a hardware issue or is it something that might go off with time ?
Regards
Arif

Yes. This hw issus.
when in startup time (bootlooping time) the lcd brigtness is max. So you have it whole night, it is very high possibility of lcd burn mark.
hope it can gone by time.

The screen is a little damaged, it probably heated up with the max brightness and the same picture, it will go away with usage by itself.
There are many apps that can solve this, they change every pixel to many colors very fast.
It will self correct itself
Hey thanx both for your response ..so far it seems that I got lucky and the flickering issue is gone after some hours of usage and rest
I have seen these issue on laptops and we have ended in replacing the lcd for the customers, flickering in laptop happens due to backlight issue, I was afraid that if backlight is gone I am axed as here also we have backlight as it's an lcd..so I think it was an issue of over heating that had left that mark and when it cooled down it become normal !

Having issues . The Screen just dims after then selected timeout duration? Any ideas ...

I have the same issue where the screen dims after a few seconds of inactivity, though my screen timeout is set as 1 minute. I've disabled power saving, so I can't imagine what can be the cause. Hope to hear what others have to say about this.
Do you have auto check for the screen brightness. This is probably the cause
No. i changed my times around and it seemed to go back to working.

My auto brightness and smart stay are off, but still it happens.
Are you guys using uleah2. .
It started for me again on ULEAH2. . Auto bright and power save are off.
Edit. I flashed my shipped rom nandroid and the damn screen timeout bug persists ... wtf

So every once in awhile my phone will start scrolling in-app. At first I thought maybe it was just oils on the skin, like some hp laptop touchpads, but after a while I disproved this. Now the real weird thing is that if I shut the screen off the come back to the app it stops. I'm thinking maybe something to do with sudden changes in ambient temps. Any thoughts?

I have the same issue, was really bad this weekend when it was near 0 and I was outside. same thing where I shut screen off and back on and then it seems OK.

Same here has done it since day one not very often but out of the blue screen acts up. I have watched it move icons on homescreens around before. But turning screen off then on stops it

Sometimes happens on mine, but only when using a high amperage charger or there are water drops on the screen (from rain).

Add me to the list. Mine has done it a handfull of times but turning the screen off then right back on has always corrected it.
Very odd.

Happens to me a lot when it's freezing outside. On/Off cycle fixes it
So my question now being, if we can assume its temp related, could this be solved by a patch to adjust based on ambient temps, or is that in the proprietary driver for the touch panel?

I notice it happens to me if I get the screen wet at all.
As stated, turning the screen off/on fixes it.
So I am studying and taking notes on papyrus when all of a sudden screen goes black.
And it's not like it went to sleep mode because if I hit the power button it makes a sound but does not turn the screen back on.
When I click the second time it turns the screen on, as if I turned the screen off and on while it was black screen.
Has anyone experienced this?
So far I have had this only happen while taking notes on Papyrus, I have 30min set to turn of screen and this happens during my note taking...
Also I am using GMOD SPen, to turns of capacitive sensor. -Maybe it could be the problem?
The only input I can provide is that under the same circumstances as you, ( GMD to turn off capacitive touch) and using papyrus, I had no such issues.
Something I feel I should share though, is that the spen latency is greatly decreased in papyrus on a custom ROM such as baked#8 but you lose the Samsung features.
Just my 0.02

What about Android Revolution HD 5.1?
I was having serious latency problems earlier but that was due to 2d gpu acceleration.
Once I disabled that I still see some lag, but it's much more tolerable.
Should I try the rom you mentioned, is the latency really that good?
So far, the least latency I've seen was with software called "write" although it has a lot of useful features Papyrus is still my favorite.

Well, if you are comfortable with taking a cwm/twrp backup the you can try it for yourself
I noticed a great deal of difference personally.

I've actually had the exact same issue, although I use LectureNotes: I can be taking notes from anywhere between 2 minutes and 30 when the screen suddenly goes dark (but not off). Pressing the power button turns the screen off and another power button press brings you back to you note-taking app.
I thought this was an issue with LectureNotes' auto-saving feature, but after seeing this thread, I'm thinking it's system-related (software or hardware).
Anyone have any insights into why the screen randomly goes dark while using the S-pen?

I have had the same thing happen to me while using " Note Anytime ".
I'm using the app and the screen goes completely black, wait 3 seconds or so and the screen comes back on.
I'm using the new B3 stock ROM.

I noticed that I am getting this while using the s-pen.
This does not apply to just papyrus, it just randomly happens.
Please let me know if I should return this to Samsung as I only have 90 day warranty on this refurbished note 10.1
Do you have auto brightness selected? I never have this problem when I use manual brightness but notice it when I use auto brightness.
I just open a topic about this before I notice this one.
I get this problem also, I had this with a few different apps.
And i use auto brightness.
I will try contacting samsung to here what there have to say

I've the same problem.. no rooted, original 4.1.2 galaxy note 10.1.
somebody said that would contact Samsung: have you any additional information?

I do have the same problem (with LectureNotes, but this is the only pen-focused app I use). Independently of auto-brightness, this should not happen. Any news from Samsung?
Hey guys,
I'm using my new nexus 5 for about two days now and something seems to be wrong with auto brightness (at least) on my device. The phone makes the screen brighter just fine, but dimming it when it gets in a dark environment doesn't seem to work really well. Can someone give this a try please?
Just turn off the lights in a room and see if the screen adjusts correctly. On mine it doesn't.
Turning on and off auto brightness fixes the issue but as soon as the screen gets brighter again, the problem starts...
Thanks in advance

Good spot, I seem to experience this as well ! Exactly as you say works fine until the brightness gets set higher then it wont ever fall back its as if it can never lower only increase brightness.... odd!
Did you give it a minute to adjust?
Since my Nexus 5 isn't here yet this is what I've observed on stock Android in the Galaxy Nexus and other phones:
While it should go down after some time it's pretty common for auto brightness not to dim down as soon as it gets darker. You don't want your brightness to jump up and down just because the lighting changes for a second. And since turning the brightness up is much more relevant than down it goes up almost instantly but before dimming back down it monitors the environment for a while.
When you turn auto brightness off and on again you force the sensor into a new reading so this should set the brightness to the correct level without delay.
But it wouldn't be the first time auto brightness was bugged on a phone.
The delay really annoyed me on my tablet running vanilla 4.2 so installed lux which works well. You set the brightness how you want it at a given light level and then it sets the brightness according to the ambient light each time you wake it up and holds that setting until the next time you wake it up... best of both worlds.

You're right gokpog,it does work I just didn't give it time. It took around 10 seconds to change the backlight levels which is much longer than the nexus 4 which is why I didn't notice it. Hopefully there is a more sensitive curve in the future

Yep this has been the case with stock android for a while. Feature or flaw you decide but it is what it is and is across the board no matter what device if its using stock android on it

Well it doesn't seem to work as expected to me: go to a bright place, then to a very dark one. Yes it will dim a bit but not quite enough. Remain in the dark room and turn off auto brightness. Then turn it on again. The screen will get significantly darker than it was before

I have find too that the automatic brightness take time to decrease brightness, also increase, but the most annoying is that with the same level of light and without moving the phone, the brightness goes up and down erratically, without a reason, it didn't happen with any of my previous phones
I just installed this app today, I've had similar problems that weren't present on my N4. With this app running, when I turn the phone screen toward a light, it brightens, and back to face a darker place it dims almost immediately. To give me more battery life I've tuned the brightness curve to be a bit low, N5's auto seemed to be too bright for me overall anyway. Be sure to tinker with both the settings and advanced settings areas, by default the changes are sharp but you can make them fade instead. Fixed the problems I had at least.

I have the same problem with my Nexus 5.
Additionally, since day one, I've noticed that the phone consistently auto adjusts the screen to be slightly brighter than necessary given the ambient light.
I just noticed this issue last night, or at least it's similar. I was reading in bed for a few hours and occasionally (maybe every 15 minutes) the screen would suddenly dim to about half brightness and then brighten back to where it was originally. It was driving me nutz. I've also had a few random reboots, though not while I was using it. I'd notice it on my table booting up. FYI, this is stock with the latest update, no root or unlocking, and still has plenty of free space in memory. I've only had it for about 4 days.
