My mom recently got the Asus Transformer TF300T.
I told her that for my to install apps, the tablet needs to be rooted and unlocked.. of course she doesnt know what Im talking about.. I just told her the warranty will be voided... she freaked out..
So is it possible to install apks without rooting/unlocking?

Yes, just go to Settings -- Security & Screen Lock -- then check the "Unknown Sources" box and click OK when warning pops up.
I can use es file explorer to install or do I need to use adb commands?
Thanx
Yes you can use a file explorer application on your tablet such as ES File Explorer to install apk files. Just check "Unknown Sources" as mentioned above and install apk. An addition please search before opening a new post, and don't forget to support developers
thanx for the help

I just finished following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668173 guide.
I have the SU app, but when i check for SU it says i do not have it.
I can view the Root Dir.
Any thoughts?
Try to cold restart the tablet and when you are back online install root checker thats for free in the market. me myzelf had to reboot twice before i realy got all the root acces on my tablet.
Can you elaborate on what a cold restart is?
I booted my device down twice.
When running Root Checker i have the output of " Sorry! This device does not have proper root access."
I was helping with this device and the rooting methods seemed kind of out of line to me. I was surprised when it came back online and had super user, Then we downloaded root checker and titanium backup and got the no root error. We've made a few reboots and even retired flashing the zip file. Not sure where to go from here.
What does ota root keeper say? Load that up and launch it. You should have 5 checks. Any missing is A problem.

and
Protected SU copy available.

Sounds like you are half-rooted. I assume you are unlocked running stock jb? If so have you used this guide? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30516010
Following step 3 is what solved the half-root for me.

Getting close.
I used the file they provided to recover from and close but no cigar!
The only option that is not checked now is "Protected su copy available".
Seems like something could be missing, I followed the guide you linked verbatim.

If that's the only one you should be good. Use root checker to verify. To enable that protected su, use ota root keeper to make a backup. Should be a button for it.

Alternative Fix
It seems like you fixed your problem, but I have an alternate solution that might work for anyone else that might stumble on this post. This sounds like a problem I had, commonly referred to as a half root, and just fixed without having to unlock or change the recovery; all it takes is pushing a file via adb and a few other lines of adb shell commands. The fix I found was on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30522201&postcount=118. Follow the long code section at the end and you should be back to root goodness (or better than it was to start, in my case). If you have problems feel free to reply or message.
I did resolve it and forgot to post. I'd like to thank you guys for the help though. This was my first post and the community seems very mature and professional. Is there any apps (also roms) rooted/normal that you would suggest for the TF300T? Thanks again for your time

Hi Guys
I am new at this but I am hoping you can help me. I install TWRP 2 recovery and then wipe cache and delvect and then rooted my Asus tf300t. I used fastboot. Everything went very well. Then I opened Titanium Backup Pro. It tel me it can"t acquire root privileges. Install busy box. So I tried . I Went to Playstore and downloaded it, open it and it says my device is rooted. When I press Install, it says installing Busybox failed. When I open VOODOO OTA Rootkepper Device rooted is checked but not permission granted.
Please Help an Old Girl
Thanks in Advance
Linda
1st look at playstore if there is an udate for su app
Install it
Then open the Su app and update the binaries.
Done
I recommend downloading supersu from the app store and installing it. If you have appropriate root permissions, it should update the su binary for you. If that fails, please post every step you took and the results as best you can remember them.

Got it working Thanks
1> A couple more questions. It possible to take off any program that was pre-installed. Like Zinco or the stock browser etc and if so how?
2> When I try to install a apk file that I have on my tablet I can only press Cancel. The install button doesn't work. What am i doing wrong?
I now have Su working. Have rooted tablet with permission and busybox is installed properly. Hope you can help again.

Happy to help. I was you just a few weeks ago.
I wouldn't remove system apps just yet. If Asus releases another update, and chances are they will, missing system apps can cause update failures, but if you want to do it, you can get a program like root explorer and remove what you don't want from /system/app folder.
As for your install issue, go to settings - security and make sure unknown sources is checked. If it already is, you might be trying to install an incompatible apk, just a guess.

I've a TF300, with JB build 10.4.2.18 on it and unlocked, with twrp on it.
Can I use Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip to root?
Also I have 2nd one that "would" still be under warrantee if I hadn't unlocked it and install a custom recovery. I found a ASUS to dual OTG USB adapter, when I plugged the computer in to the adapter which was plugged into the tablet, it went black and hasn't restarted since.
As that is an electronic "breakage" would that still be under warrantee? When I call ASUS should I ask, or play dumb (easily done on my part - kinda proud of that ...)
Does anyone know? Would REALLY like to get that back, rather then collect on the "insurance".
I would recommend supersu instead of superuser on jb

If I may, yes user superuser apk, but after you do and reboot, then install supersu on top of that which will ask for superuser permission from superuser to function. After that, all apps will ask for permission from supersu which I think is better of the two.
So in short, do the following:
Flash superuser apk
reboot
Launch superuser app just to get the splash screen out of the way, then close it.
Download / install supersu from the market and launch it.
It will advise the su binary needs to update, do so
It will pop up a request for permission from superuser app to do this, grant it.
Once done, supersu takes over as the authorizing app for all other apps that need superuser permission.
As for the 2nd, you can play dumb, but if it's unlocked, it will say it on boot, so hard to hide. I've read that asus will still honor if truly a hardware failure, but I guess it could go either way.

Worked a treat. Thank you.
If I might, is there a way to get Google Search OUT!
Suddenly Google Search will launch (and voice search will NOT stay off) and I then get a gesture screen. I haven't launched them, but afterwards the tablet goes screwy for a while before settling down.
Man if I could delete that sucker?

I used the above, and already had superuser install (I was thinking ahead). Ran Avast Firewall and it grabbed root and worked fine. I like lbe better, well, I would in a phone for it's blocking of the imei (is that right? doesn't look it), but I digress ... I just wanted it for the firewall - I have a problem with Google in general, but when GO Keyboard lists an internet connection as needed and grabbing your keystrokes as a possibity well... (rant done - sorry).
I figure I'll tell ASUS I unlocked the bootloader - just to clear the air that it's P/S problem, before i send it along.
Is an apk file able to install itself without a prompt? I clicked a link by accident that downloaded an apk of questionable content. Obviously I deleted it, but I'm wondering if it's possible something could have been installed without my knowledge.
Thanks guys

Nope not possible.
But on apps like blackmart, if you give it superuser rights, it can install apps right away!
And also TB can do this.! While restoring (pro version).
So basically, I think for it to happen superuser permission might be needed!
LIFE! Live it to the best!
so apparently there was a root for the tab 4 SM-330NU model and it took me many hours and even months to get around to finding a root. this guy named Abdullah I on youtube had a tutoral on how to do this. tbh all u need to do is go to the kingroot website on your phone, download the apk (use ES file explorer to install it, it jsut makes things easier), open the app select the opition to begin onetouch-root. for me it restarted but dont clench it will be ok just reopen the app and u will see it still processing the root. keep an eye on it till it gets 100%. after that just download the root checker app and after a minute, boom there goes your root.
that guy made a tutorial on youtube so u can go there also if u didnt understand a thing i said lol.

You say to download to your phone, but I'm guessing you mean I can do this all on the Galaxy Tablet?
No comments on this thread. Has anyone else successfully used this "kingroot" method?
