So I've been looking for an app that supports hierarchical note taking, but i haven't found anything that really meets my needs. What i was hoping for was something like keynote, which i used to use with windows, or (god forbid) onenote. Preferably open source, and not requiring shady, intrusive permissions. Encryption is always nice.
Any suggestions? Seems like this short of software would be exceedingly common on a mobile platform. Somebody has to have something trustworthy that they use.
Notelynx Outliner. It can be found on Google Play. There is also a pro version available with additional features.

I've used quite a few of the different note apps but I always come back to Google drive. Easily accessible from any computer and printable.

Evernote seems nice and functional to me.

Same thing I've been questioning there is a lot of programs that came installed and nor in Google market or Samsung market gets

The app is customised for the GN 10.1 so most likely Samsung would need to push it out via Google Play like with their other apps. Best to pose the question with Samsung.
not so much that it's customized for the gn10.1 but that it's licensed to only be used by your gn10.1.
if it were available through any market i'm pretty sure they'd be violating some kind of license they have with adobe as you'll then be able to install it on any device linked to the account.
It gets updated when updates come for the Note itself. And update to JB will surely update it as well.

Just make sure you put the pen against or close to the screen before you rest your palm against it and you should be fine.

I forgot about that totally!
However i still am not satisfied with the failure on small curves

Hi,
Photoshop is amazing for photos, coloring etc., but in my experience it's not good for drawing.
Try Scketchbook pro, layerpaint (palm rejection can be configured and it's very good), tv paint (beta) etc.
You can draw and color at one of those then add effects in photoshop.

Hello All,
I am a high school math teacher considering the purchase of this for classroom usage. My goal is to wirelessly connect to my desktop PC and run my windows software from the tablet (using Jump Desktop or something similar). I will be controlling a program called SMART Notebook. My question is this: the only reason I really want this tablet over many others is the accuracy of the S Pen, which will be awesome for writing equations and such. However, will the S Pen even work while using those remote desktop control apps? I've heard people say it only works for a hand full of apps. If this is true, I would not purchase this tablet. Other tablets just are so unresponsive with styli that I've tried. It's very frustrating. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!

In case this is a tl;dr situation:
Will the S pen function smoothly and accurately in an app such as Jump Desktop or any other app where you remote access a PC?

U do know that the s note app automatically does math formulas and equations. Actually works pretty cool. Just to play around I wrote up a bunch of fake equations and it figured it out

Somehow i think you unresponsiveness issue is not coming from tablet itself but the network you used to connect both device... if that's the case note 10.1 wont be any help either...

I was testing the tablets with no network connection. I was just testing the accuracy of writing with various styli on various tablets. I didn't have an opportunity to try the whole PC remote control setup in the store.
Is it just me? Do I suck at using styli? Haha. I couldn't get things to write correctly. It would always miss spots in my numbers and stuff. As if you're writing in pen and it is running out of ink.

Okay so bear with me here. I'm trying to figure out a way to connect my Samsung SGH-I927 (Captivate Glide) to the Note 10.1 so I can use the physical keyboard to type with on the tablet. Is this possible in any way so I can use the tablet as a monitor and my phone as a keyboard?
Sent from my GT-N8013 using XDA Premium HD app
No you cannot do that as to recognize the phone drivers will be required which is not possible
Why dont you just buy a usb keyboard in that case a cheaper option or a bluetooth one
Oh okay, I was just wondering if it was possible. I wanted to find another way for people to type on the tablet without having to buy a new device. Thanks for the answer though.

Sv: Connecting a phone with the Note 10.1 in order to use the phone's keyboard?
There are apps to remotely control other Android devices, isn't it possible that such a solution will work? Since you can control the controlled device both with the actual device and with the device acting as a remote control, you should be able to use your tablet for everything and then just use your phone to write. I've not tried this though, if anything I would like to use my tablet keyboard to my SGS3 but since I can send sms using my tablet there's really no point to be honest.

You understand what I'm trying to achieve here right? It would be nice to be able to type on the tablet without having the virtual keyboard come up on the screen, using your phone as the keyboard for your tablet. (I'm assuming it's easier for most people to type faster on the phone rather than tablet). I'm not talking just sms, more as overall typing in every app, if possible.
Again, this is just a question which I'm hoping that we can find an alternative to using a bluetooth keyboard. It would be helpful for anyone who doesn't want to lug around more accessories for their tablet.

I think so! I'm sorry if I confused you with the talk about sms, that's just a sidetrack why I don't think many have this kind of suggestion.
However, my solution for you would be this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tournesol.tabletremote something like this, an app that allows you to remotely control another Android device including typing words (at least that's what the description tells). So, you use your tablet like you use to do and when you click on something where you wish to write you minimize the software keyboard on the tablet and use the phone instead.
I've not tried the app though, but there's a couple of different apps that do almost the same but in different ways and hopefully someone will do the trick.

No, it's okay, i just didn't want to be limited to sms .
I was looking at apps last night but it was late and didn't feel like running tests on different applications. I looked at that yesterday, I'm going to try it out later today. (still in bed at the moment since it's only 6:47 am). I also saw this app, and the interface seems basic. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...m=organic&utm_term=android+mouse+and+keyboard I feel like this could work also. The remote desktop by Kolakowski Damian doesn't let you control the tablet in the manner that you want to.

Well, there's a chance that you have to test a couple of different apps before you find someone that does what you want it to do and more importantly, in the way you want it to. But I can't see why you shouldn't be able to do it, I have the Unified Remote app to control my PC with my phone and typing works great even though I don't get any auto correction. After all, it's a quite simple feature and shouldn't involve too much data transfers that can cause lag if implemented correctly.

Tablet remote definitely works, but there's one major problem to it when you use the physical keyboard on the glide. If I wanted to enter special characters (colon, semicolon, apostrophes) it would not register on the tablet and only certain keys would hit. It works for the regular virtual keyboard on the phone.
If you want an alternative, smaller keyboard for easier typing, try out tablet remote. I'm sure there are more apps which I will look into and post on here.

I'm basically just guessing here, but I think that might be because you are not using the same ASCII codes on your OS as your app. In my opinion that shouldn't be a problem since it should just send the codes to the other device, but if it's converting it to text before sending it over there might be a problem. After all, the most common use for this app I suppose is typing in an URL or maybe search for a song, at least that's that I'm doing when remotely control another device.
If there's not any settings where to specify regions in the app, hopefully there's an app that supports US (?) keyboards.

I have extracted the Amazon Instant Video app from my Google TV device. It opens on the Note 8, you can select videos, but on trying to actually stream the video you selected, it crashes. If there are any talented people on this forum who want to try playing with the .apk file to see if they can fix it, or if there's someone willing to host this file, let me know and I will email it to you.

You would also need to get the Flash enabled version of GTV Chrome working, since that is really what the app relies on.
EDIT: At least that is the case on the Sony NSZ-GT1. If it is different for your device, I'll have a look, but from what research I have done, it is not an easy task & it will involve a few modifications that will not sit well with other apps or the Play Store.
Post it up though, I just got my dev environment setup on my new machine & the missus will be out of town this weekend.
Unfortunately you're right. The Google TV Chrome app will not install on the Note.
There doesn't seem to be a way to post files through the XDA app, but I can email them to whoever wants them.

Well, I have to report that I have had little luck getting this to work on any non-GTV device. I even built an AOSP build with using a GTC boardconfig. No luck.
I am very pissed with Amazon though, so I went & bought a LTE KF HD 8.9 & I am going to play with getting it working on other tablets. Man I hate the Kindle stock experience. Thank goodness for root. I'll let you know if I find a simple way to get it running, but it will take some time as business is wicked crazy right now.
Any luck?

Yes & no. I have firstly been playing with the Nexus 10 & the KF HD 8.9. I was able to finally get AVOD to work on the Nexus 10, BUT, *BUT*, I essentially had toport the entire KF rom to the Nexus 10. It is buggy & there are some graphical & resolution issues, but it worked.
The only other instance I have found was also similar. A guy got it working on a Galaxy Tab, essentially doing the same thing, porting the whole KF rom.
You could of course use a different launcher, but it is still ICS, 4.0.3, & aside from losing a lot of the N10 cool features, it really is far from stable. I don't have a lot of time for this stuff at the moment, work is crazy busy these days. At any rate, I am going to see if I can try to go about it the other way & try to port some of the KF framework & core apps to JB when I get some time. Right now though, it is a no go.
Is there an app/software for Windows 8.1, similar to the application protection app on Android, which asks for a password every time an app is opened? I have looked at winguard pro and the likes, but I would prefer to use an app instead of a regular software.
I am liking my surface pro 2, but the lack of decent apps is crippling. Not sure why Microsoft has not been able to rally major developers to develop for Windows phones and tablets.

Currently I do not know of such a software and its certainly not possible using the basic app api's available... Since you have the pro in theory someone could write one but none currently exist.
