Hey , yesterday i left my phone plugged in overnight. After it has completed charging , the battery icon stops showing any signs of charge and lockscreen shows battery 100%. Anyways , from this i may conclude that the battery stops taking power after charging full . So all i want to ask is dose our htc gets overcharged / battery gets damaged due to stay plugged in overnight?
Regards

Most probably yes, it damages the battery may be, i have explorer from about 10 months and my use is Hardcore! and i really mean that so many times ive put my phone on charge on night and it gets overcharged, everything was fine from 9 months but now ive started to have problems with battery like, phone normaly charges to 65% in less than an hour then takes 3-4hours to reach 100. So its better if u charrge it when its needed.
Hope this helps.
Ya, but I've noticed that after teaching 100% the phone stops charging by itself., somewhere i read that if devices battery has been charged , the charger itself stops producing more power. That means device or the charger dose not allows overcharging of the battery than how are you experiencing problems when your device has never been overcharged ? I have a busy schedule and only have time to charge my explorer at Night . It would be a big problem for me if you say phone gets overcharged and battery gets damaged.

my explorer get charge in almost 3hrbut it nevr gave bacup of more than a day on genral use right from the begning :crying::crying::crying::crying:
Battery doesn't get over charged, but it does keep charging the battery as fast and its being used, so yeah, in the long run its not a good idea to leave it on all night.
And btw, i still leave my dumbphone connected to charger all night, and its goin on its 3rd year and battery still going strong, but then again, those phones barely has any use of battery as compared to a smartphone.
Anyway, you shouldn't do it, it won't hurt overnight, but in the long run you will notice issues.
Charging for long hours will hurt your battery because it's only a 1300mAh 4142mV thing. But, even I have to keep my phone on charge whole night due to lack of time. If someday you find battery getting heated up, start taking care of it asap.
Remember, battery is the heart of your phone.

Having the same problem as hsn97
yeah.. try not to leave it for charge for over an hour after its fully charged.. It can lead to serious problems.. Mine takes about 3 hours for a full charge and lasts a little over 1 and half days..
Well, yes. If you will notice, the phone charges in 3 ways:
1. From 0 to 90% it will charge in rapid speed.
2. 90% to 100% the incoming current will reduce significantly.
3. When it reaches 100%, the current falls really low, so that overcharge does not take place.
But if the charger is left overnight, the low charge can cause lot of problems. Overcharging reduces the battery life and performance.
I have been using explore for almost a year now and my battery has not decreased much.
I keep it everyday overnight for charge

Overnight charge is okay but if the phone reaches full battery and you still continue to charge it will reduce battery life

You should be okay, lithium ion batteries aren't hugely reliant on cycling when they are first used but its still good to do so just in case, but ignore your phone telling you its fully charged, use current widget while charging and check 'ma' value before disconnecting from power and when its sat at around 15 to 30 ma for half an hour or so while the phone is charging and doing nothing and then you can safely assume its fully charged or just leave overnight and check ma in the morning. This is because your phones still used to the ma and mv readings of a smaller battery so it thinks its full before it is. It will also say you have 100% battery for ages after a charge but again that's the phone not used to readings from a bigger battery.
Hope this helps

Whats a good battery widget to show the ma values etc ?
Well mine lasts me at least 12-14 hours of heavy use most days. To fully charge it will take longer due to the size difference but your phone will always say its charged before it really is, I don't bother watching the ma value much anymore I just give it a good 4-5 hours when it gets down to about 5%. Youl get used to it

let it go 0% then charge to 100%, then pull phone off charger, and put it on loader again (it auto resets batterystats) and then let it charge again for an hour (now ur sure its 100%)
then use it till 0% and do the same, load to 100% and pull it out, then put it in and charge
after u done this twice u should be ok in my eyes and get good performance

I think he means charger when he says loader. I am also using Anker battery and I'm very happy with its performance!also, go to your settings and make sure your screen light is dimmed. Turn off, things like vibrate on key press, touch tones, touch sounds make sure your apps ate not running in background! This is a huge battery drain! Believe it or not settings can make quite a difference!m going from 8am to 11pm heavy use without a charge! Some custom Roms are also made to increase battery life! You might want to look into that! I get so many extra hours out of Virtuous Inquisition 4.0.2 , than I did with stock! I was amazed! Also don't use live wallpapers I know they are wonderful looking but they are quite a battery drain also. Good luck and hope I've helped you!

Nope it won't decrease battery performance. Your battery will not overcharge or anything if you leave it on, the phone will only pull enough power to maintain a full charge when its reached 100%

Had my baby for a little over a year and a half, been nothing but a great phone in that time. This is where the problem starts... I'll be using it like normal, texting and surfing, and will have 98% battery, the phone will shut down, and when it decides to start back up, I will have 14% battery or less.... But it will go up if I leave it alone..... I've tried wiping the battery stats, even charging with the phone off, nothing is working. I will attach screenshots so you can see what's up.

Your battery is bad. Same thing happened to me, I recommend just buying a new OEM battery from a reputable dealer on Amazon, that's what I did. Try setting it down on a table and push on one side and if it rocks back and forth its bad. Or you can just look at it and see its swollen
Mine did that and it was just a bad battery. If you take the battery out and place it on a flat surface you may notice that it rocks left and right. If it rocks a lot or if you feel the middle and it feels swollen it may be symptoms of a bad battery.

It is dangerous because battery acid can get on you and cause sever skin irritation. You can continue like this for 1 to 2 days MAX until you get your new battery. Try not to use it because using it more will cause it to swell more, DUH try to only use it for emergencies and then once you get the new battery clean the terminals and you'll be good to go
I used mine got a while like that because i didn't know it was the battery lol

I'm curious about charging habits of the people who have bad batteries. I have had my phone since the day it came out and my battery is still fine. I never let it get below 30% unless I'm testing a new ROM. Killing lithium ion batteries is really bad for them. So how many of you drain it all the way on a regular basis?
I'm still using my old vibrant battery (at times). I don't think that it's as strong as the spare that I purchased a few months ago, but, is on par with the 18 month old battery that came with the phone. I zap them all the way down a lot of the time (then swap to a fully charged one). I do(try) to recharge to full before use though.
Mine does it but only when I'm using wifi or data could that still be a bad battery

Shallow discharge cycles are generally accepted to be better for Li-ion batteries than deep ones.

That is probably a bad idea. I would try to plug it in around 15-20% with 20% being the best time. According to the batteryuniversity website 20-80% is ideal for li-ion batteries because it keeps the heat down. Charging from less than 15% creates heat because that is a low level and takes a bit longer to charge from therefore exposes the battery to more heat. A good charger and battery will shut off the charger once it hits 100% and only allow for a trickle charge if the battery drops below 100%. But I have seen my phone get hotter from about 85% to 100% if Im using it ie: plugged in and streaming music or using navigation.

You need to calibrate the battery...
Follow this, charge the phone till u r sure its fully charged(not what the battery shows), reboot to recovery, wipe battery stats...
After the restart, keep the phone on charging for half an hour to 45 min.
Hopefully this should help unless the battery itself has gone faulty.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710 using xda premium
'Calibrating the battery' is not actually a real thing.
It's a myth that has been thoroughly debunked. The battery stats only show what has used the battery, not how much of it should be left.
And nothing relating to battery stats would explain why the battery level is decreasing while it's plugged in. However 2 things will explain that.
1) You are using a charger that's less than 1 amp. The stock charger than came with the phone and most any other smartphone charger is a 1 Amp unit. If you are using a generic charger it might not have the power needed to charge the phone while you're using it. Same with charing via a USB connection on a computer. Or, you do have a stock 1 amp charger and it's just gone bad. Test this by trying another charger. However if the phone loses battery while plulgged in and not being used, then the charger probably isn't the problem.
2) Your battery is on it's last legs and needs to be replaced. They don't last forever. After a year, maybe two, they start to lose their ability to take and hold a charge. This is the more likely problem. The sollution is to just get a new battery. New stock batteries cost about $10 on Amazon. New Anker larger capacity battery will last longer and only cost about $18.

Hi guys.
The problem continues !!!
Below are the things i have tried...
1.) Charging with original wall charger during phone on...Battery still declining during charging
2.) Completely wiped my phone and did not put any app still the same result
3.) Got a new Anker battery and still the same result (this is my fourth battery !!!)
4.) Tried different chargers and still the same result
5.) Switched off the phone and charged overnight and it took approx 8 Hrs to charge full but then the battery depleted quite quickly !!!
There is something wrong with the battery indicator it seems...Once the battery hits 0% while charging it rockets backs to 100% and then again starts to deplete.
Any more suggestions anyone ???
Maybe the charging electronic is just broken, if there is you have really tested new charger and new battery. Maybe controll your batterypins, maybe those are somehow broken (especially ground pin?)

Hi XDA
I was leaving my phone charging last night as usual, but when I wake up this morning, my phone is extremely hot, maybe at least 60 degree celsius(140F) for I literaly can't touch it, it burns. The phone is powered off and when I turned it back on (thank God it did turn on) after cooling down, it's only like half charged. And the battery itself appears to be normal as usual. This never happened before and my battery temp never goes above 40 degree.
The first thing I can think of it's a failing battery, but can any other things cause it too? What should I do? Will it be safe to charge it again?
BTW, I'm using the Sumsang Galaxy R I9103 and the stock battery, with CM 10.1 nightly builds.
Bump? I tried to carefully charge it a few times and it seems just fine, any ideas? I've already ordered a backup battery online just in case
you shouldn't put your phone to charge for the whole night... an average phone gets charged in almost 4 to 5 hours... hence you may risk damaging your battery.... other thing could be that your battery is already gone worse as you suggested.... it is good that you ordered a new battery. just don't keep it on charging the whole night...
PLEASE HIT THANKS IF THIS HELPED
I leave my phone plugged in overnight to charge as well and I've never had such a problem. Seeing as your phone was turned off during the charging, my best guess is that your battery is failing or your charger is failing. If you have an extra charger, you could try that, if now I would just hop online and buy a new set.
Good luck!
