With the help of red_menace over at the apple support forum, I present Mac users with an application that will sign their .apk and .zip files.
It is a droplet application, meaning you just have to drag the file you want signed onto the application itself. A new file will be created with -signed at the end of the file name.
For this to work you need to have testsign.jar in your root directory. The root directory is the first place you come to when you click on the mac hard drive.
If anyone wants to use or edit the script that's fine with me, I really didn't do much, just asked the right people for help.
Android-sign.zip Download
Android-sign.zip has both the testsign.jar and android-sign application.
EDIT: Sorry about the mixup. Testsign.jar is now linked above.
thank you sir! will try tonight
Exception in thread "main"
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: testsign
I cant find the testsign.jar its not in the tool directory of my SDK that I downloaded from Androids website
Where can I get this testsign.jar?
*EDIT*
I found the testsign.jar in the forums. You can get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538020
But I still get the same error I've placed the program and the testsign.jar file in the same directory.
I have some cool skins in the making! I just need to know how to sign these files! I'm on a mac.
Why am I getting the error?
wow i need this bad...now lets c if i know how to get it 2 work....

are you putting the testsign.jar in your ROOT dir? aka where adb is
same error
Okay, so I'm getting the same error. And yes, my testsign.jar/Android-sign.app are both in my sdk/tools dir.
Not sure what the problem is.
Hope I can get this to work

What file is the adb? I understand what adb means and what it does, but I don't know how to identify it.
Ok so since im new to this can someone can make a really dumb guide for me from dowloading the app to putting the test.jar file please.
im getting the same error, this is a huge step though when u figure out whats going on with the rest of our Auto-sign, repost thanks nd thumbs up
nice...thx for sharing this. will come in handy
oops, still getting used to all this. haha

the testsign.jar needs to be in the root directory of your computer. The app can be placed anywhere you would like. Where ever you put the app, the new signed file will be also.
guys so lets say i put meltus audio hack in cyanogen 4.9999 and i want to sign the whole build back up how would i do that.
thank you

Oh okay, thanks.
You said to put it in the same folder as adb is why I was confused.
I'll try this out in a few.

no i said that, and it is where adb is.... at least for me... in the root dir, if you move the adb file there you don't have to enter the path every time you enter adb commands in the terminal

i think what jaaronmoody was talking about is just putting your adb file into the root directory instead of adding to the bin. but im pretty new to the whole terminal and coding stuff, so i just know what i've picked up since having my g1.
guys does anybody know about signing folders again to make them flashable?

well if the file is good. you just have to drag the cm 4.9999.zip file onto the app and it will spit out the new signed version.
What I think is more complicated is actually modifying those files. I use virtualbox to run windows and do everything with 7zip.
Anyone know of a zip program similar to 7zip to edit the apk and zip files?
Dude! Thanks! Alright guys get ready now that I have everything in place ADB, and signing my .zip files expect Luck's turn at android development lol. Im hecka grateful for everybody but now im ready haha thanks guys
Thanks for the help.
Works like a charm.
Awesome droplet.
Hey everyone!
On the rom I currently use there are about 20 apk's I have no need for. What I do is download the rom, and individually delete the apk's before flashing the rom. The thing is I flash quite often (cheeky, I know ) and this is getting quite frustrating.
Ideally I want a script that does this all for me. I found one but it seems be for running on the phone, after the apk's have been installed. Does anyone know how I can create a script for the PC that does this before I even install the rom?
Thank you for any suggestions.
Oh and here's the thread I found that looked relevant...

Over what OS?
If in Windows (or any M$ OS, incl. DOS) you can make a batch file.
My file is adjunted as example (modify as you like, put in the root dir -obviously to the unzipped ROM- and run. Rezip and maybe re-sign)
salu2
Thank you. This is exactly the kind of thing I am after. If I had of been born just a few years earlier I would probably know all about batch scripts. Fortunately, I just missed the DOS days!
Anyway, I puzzled out / looked up the commands in the script you posted. Based on that I extracted the rom, then placed the batch file within it, so that the cd (current directory) command runs correctly.
Unfortunately this mucks up the signing on the rom. Do you re-sign your CM7 roms every time you do this or is there an easier way?
Edit: My PC is Win 7, 64bit, soon to be Win 8 Consumer Preview.
Edit: The roms do not need resigning.
I don't re-sign the ROM, simply flash again over Clockworkmod Recovery.. and work.
But, you can:
1) sign using Auto-Sign....
2) Click [Thanks]...

You're welcome.

Hey again. I was hoping to build on the script you kindly provided. At the moment I am using various alpha roms where the exact apk's present changes fairly often. It would be great if I could see the outcome of each action. This way I would know if the apk has had it's name changed or been removed. How would I enable this?

I'm pretty sure that that when I installed eclipse I used WinRar, however 7zip or winzip should work, what kind of error are you getting when you try to extract the files?
have you downloaded it succesfully ?
still no success. I gave up on it... But want to get it! It says something like unkown file type or damaged.... I'm downloading it from eclipse.org eclipse basic... windows 64 bit.... I dont understand why it wont open...
Got everything downloaded now just can't add Android sdk to eclipse..... :/

If it doesn't unzip eclipse it's probably because the file is corrupted, try re-downloading it
I got eclipse now.downloaded Android sdk but can't do the thing to plug Android sdk into eclipse. Says something is missing

What error message do you get? Also make sure you have the appropriate Java version installed (At times I've noticed problems with apps linked to 32-bit libraries, opened with 64-bit Java or vice versa). Although I think it should have both installed in Windows 64-bit.
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have a similar thread. The error is either
1) org.eclipse.ui 3.6.2 error
(When using eclipse indigo)
2) org.wst.sse.core 0.0 error
(When using eclipse Helios)
I will have to look at error. Its after Tron to add it. Hit next next then your suppossedto hit accept and it don't.... And I really wanna get this lined out.been Tryin since..... Last week?

not sure if this is strictly related to the problem of the OP, but after I downloaded Eclispe it would not unzip correctly. It failed on about 14 files.
After looking around, i found it was a path length problem (Windows has a path length folders+filename restriction) and the Eclipse developers know this but still make their paths quite long, since ver 3.5 or something like that.
The way i got around it was very simple: move the zip file to your root folder (eg c:\) then unzip it. You won't have all the extra folders in the unzip path that doing it on the desktop, for example, would have.
Hi i have read a few posts about editing apk files but most are only about editing the image files. i need to edit the classes.dex file inside the apk i have done this but when i try and install the apk it doesnt work is this possible to do? thanks
this is not to do anything illegal it is simply to make an android app i use equal to the iphone equivalent (there are less servers for the android app) so i basically want to change the url from the apk to the iphone url)
Cheers

Tried signing the file after modding it?
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda premium
Hi thanks for your reply, yes i have and it still doesnt work unfortunately
Use apktool to extract the APK, you'll get .smali files instead of classes.dex (this is the decompiled version). Edit these files appropriately, then repack the APK with apktool and sign it. Should work.
Does apktool require command line? if so it is too complicated for me
Yes, it does. If command line is too difficult, it's probably unlikely you'll be able to get this working I'm afraid. You could try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619473
It's an IDE for editing APKs, might help. But honestly, the command line part is the easy bit
Just never had any luck with any command line stuff for android never works for me and i hate all the extra crap you have to install to use it. Thanks anyway ill see how i go.

If you wanna do basic stuff wid apktool then its a reaaly easy tool.. The commands are really very small!
Apktool d xxxx.apk for decompile
Apktool b xxxx for compiling n ur done!
Even the complex ones arent difficult! Only the installing of apktool takes time and its the hardest thing in the whole procedure

in theory apktool is faily simple. but if you compile for android 4.0 better prepare yourself for huge headaches and a couple of white hairs as this thing wont work. i know two solutions, one consists of a really stupid juggling with two versions, one old which you can barely find, and one new, decompile with the old one, compile with the new one. some guy made a mod though and it finally ends the trouble, but i haven't seen it officially pronounced, which made it so damn hard to find it, hidden in some internet forums. another problem was that aapt needs to be present in the same directory, error codes will just spew out a bunch of gibbersish and you will never know whats wrong so all thats left is trying. but once you got it working it is as easy as pie.

This program worked perfectly thank you so much
Like the title says i need a decompiling/compiling ..apktool is just not working for me!
All the other tools I know of are just wrappers around apktool, if it doesn't work nothing will. Instead of trying to find something else, troubleshoot what isn't working about apktool. Does it give some error? At what point in the process? Give as much detail as you can.

I placed two apktool files in windows folder.. Installed jre... I navigate to c/windows in cmd.. And I give command apktool if you (file direcory) without quotes...
And it just says that apktool command was not recognised..! These instructions I saw in a tutorial in xda only.. Don't remember where!!
"two apktool files" - did you download these two packages: http://android-apktool.googlecode.com/files/apktool-install-windows-r04-brut1.tar.bz2 and http://android-apktool.googlecode.com/files/apktool1.5.0.tar.bz2 and then unpack both and copy all the contents of both into C:\windows? If so, the "apktool" command WILL be recognised in the command line (from anywhere, not just in C:\Windows).
