Has anyone gotten group messaging with iPhone users to work correctly on the stock hangouts application? I can send group messages but do not receive any responses. No individual messages and nothing in the group window. I also tried textra and had the same results.
Suggestions?

what are you APN setting for ATT that allows you to do group messaging successfully?

Do you guys in the U.S get free MMS?
The fact that Hangouts sends Group Messages as MMS makes it an expensive proposition here in the U.K?
in the US, every text plan i've had makes no distinction between SMS or MMS, plus i can't remember the last time i encountered anyone with a limited amount of SMS/MMS per month anymore...
Good afternoon all. Before I pull the trigger on the N5 purchase, I'd like to see if anyone has used it with a group chat with iPhone users?
My current ROM on my S3 supports it and I've downloaded the new hangouts app and enabled texting, but in the group chat (myself and two iPhone users) all the responses show as one users name / contact photo. I'm hoping that it's just a compatibility issue with my 4.3 ROM and hangouts.

It's been a while since its release and I am certain that you (all of you) are as fed up as I am about the non existence of a true SMS app for this tablet. Yes, Google+ and Hangout and some obscure other providers give you limited SMS ability and What'sApp doesn't work but Tango ... etc.
Anyone have a TRUE SMS app for this tablet, one that doesn't require your buds to sign up for a Social App or the likes. Remember *Handscent*? I use it on my Note 3 and it works PHantastique !!!
There must be something out there that works.

I use talkatone. I make unlimited phone calls and text with my Google voice number and I've had no problems on my iPad mini LTE and galaxy note 8.0

It's NOT cross platform. If someone doesn't have TalkaTone, they won't get your SMS. Also, have you tried to text an international number? Don't waste your time. Doesn't work. There's got to be something better.

What are you talking about? None of the people I text even know or use talkatone and I send or receive texts to them just fine. when my mom had to go to the Philippines I set up her phone so she can make free phone calls and texts over WiFi with a local number from California, no problems there. But hey I must me imagining things if I've been doing this for the past 1 1\2 years.
So instead of complaining of my ignorance, illuminate me and trek me how it's done...Please.

I like the AT&T Messages app. Syncs with my GS4 and sends SMS over wifi on my Note 8.
Interesting. The AT&T message app wasn't preloaded - believe it or not. Furthermore it states "not compatible" when I tried to download it.
Weird. What's wrong with the device...?

It wasn't before but it is compatible with the i467 now.

I would just youtube it in your situation. it isn't exactly rocket science.

I've used Google Voice, Voice+ (From Cyanogenmod) and Textra. This only works on Cyanogenmod. For wifi only variants the telephony app requires modding.

When I'm in a group conversation with somebody with an iphone 5 it shows they texted but no words pop up. Running moar rom rom. Anybody got an idea for a solution? Thanks
The only solution for TW 4.1.2 that I'm aware of is to download Verizon Messages from the Play Store and text using that. Otherwise, you'll want to use an AOSP JB it KitKat rom since native support for group messaging came in JB.

Doesn't the recent Hangouts update now support the group messaging? I don't use it, but I've seen it as an option in settings regarding receipt of 'group messages'.
So I am new to this whole hangouts thing but I am on Nexus 5 so hoping I can get some help here. I am just really used to the AOSP SMS app.
I have been in a group text with 3 friends for about 2 months ago.
Now on Nexus 5 whenever I get a group chat from one of them, it just shows in their individual thread instead of a group thread like it did in the old SMS app.
In Hangouts go into Settings > SMS and make sure "Group Messaging" is checked.
What phones are your friends using?
