Hi everyone,
I assume that my question for most of you is obvious, but still i looked around for the answer, and didn't find.
So i hope you all could help me out.
Is there any option to add a typing language to the TF700T physical keyboard?
When I go to "Settings->Language & Input->PHYSICAL KEYBOARD->asusdec...
I used to have my language supported there (in Itock Rom). I flashed an AOSP based Rom on my TF700T (LiquidSmooth Rom), and suddenly I noticed that I can't enable my language an type in it, cause it's not there.
Can anybody recommend me what to do?
Add the language...? (if possible)
Flash another AOSP Rom...? (Is the language support, an Issue with my Rom, or any AOSP Rom?)
thanx for your time...:good:
A quick search only yielded some specifics about changing some characters to others, but you would not be able to change the text prediction. I think this would be something ROM-specific, as the keyboard itself doesn't carry any languages. (Ehh, right, guys?! :S ) I'll take it up a bit in the morning -- I really need to go sleep.
EDIT: Ugh. My OCD got the better of me. Try this before reinstalling :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelper
Demo here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelperdemo
I know it costs money, but it may be worth it if you change ROMs often -- it would make you independent of the ROM's support of specific layout files.
There is another app called keyboard manager (I think) that does the same thing and is free on the play store.

Does this work for the physical keyboard as well? Oh, well, @OP: take a look and be sure to try the free option first.

Hey guys finally someone has gotten smart enough to make the first multi touch keyboard. It's called Smart Keyboard in the market and its free. It's still in beta and is very buggy and ugly. They keyboard is going in the right direction, maybe someone can build on it and perfect it? Thanks.

You can see the screenshots in the market. And it doesn't look THAT bad. Basically a white version of the stock keyboard.
Multi-touch seems to help my typing a lot. Even without the auto-correction (which is supposedly going to be added in the Pro version later on), I can type almost perfectly, compared to the many mistakes I make with the stock keyboard.

I agree its definitely a step better than the stock keyboard. One problem is that it doesn't show the letter when you hit it, it's just blank. Cant wait for a pro version or for someone to make a more improved app.
very nice keyboard indeed. the vibrate option doesnt work on my n1. its also missing the voice input but istill like it because it implements multitouch correctly unlike the stupid stock kboard
So I just downloaded app and selected it from language & keyboard settings but I still end up with the stock KB. Any ideas on how to switch it?

Hold down on a text box and it should say "Input method". Click that and should display the keyboards you have installed/enabled.

Alright fixed the problem thx!
Still needs quite a bit of work. All in all, it sort of reminded me..why exactly do we need a multi-touch keyboard now? Sure ive used the iphone keyboard....but it doesnt make a world of difference if the OS isnt built around the function.
fantastic find. using it to write this response and this is an amazing fix for me. not sure if it is the multitouch or not, but either way i like it
pretty good missing some features but i feel a bit more accurate with it.
Not bad! This has a lot of potential...
ill run it again once the bugs/fixes are worked out

vibrate works fine - just very faint.. it's a light pulse rather than a strong/long vibrate.

You can tell its multi touch if say you hold down the A key and then press the J key it will type the A then the J right after it.
Wish they could add holding Q for number 1 etc like the HTC one!
Only thing I really want.

I just tried to reinstall Swype beta after upgrading to 3.2 but get an error about the screen size into being supported. Anyone find a work around for this?

Didn't know that about the asus keyboard, I'll have to check it out. Still, as a matter of principal, I'd like to figure out Swype.
So I don't make the mistake again, what is the the Themes and Apps forum for?
ASUS 'swype' not as good as the original swype, imho

Themes and apps form is for discussing apps and showing people new apps. for example if a new market apk came out it would be posted in themes and apps. Or if someone makes a theme for an app like making the market default to red instead of green for example or making a theme for a rom it would go here. Anything you lable with a [Q] should go in the Q&A forum.
And swype probably isn't compatible with 3.2 yet maby check out the xoom forum and see if anyone got if working there

Agreed.
I get the error as well with Swype, but I already have it installed. I am still able to use it after the error.
Most likely Swype will need to update on their end.
Update from Swype
It is worth noting that if you are a Swype user it will stop working when you get 3.2, there is a bit of a workaround here:
http://forum.swype.com/showthread.php?4255-3.2-upgrade-and-Swype-don-t-play-well-together
but it is not perfect.
The key is not to uninstall the Swype installer (like I did), if you do you can't get Swype back.
A new version is promised, but no date.
I did the work around on the swype website. It work ed for a little while but than stopped.
Went back to flex9 swype option. Until the swype fix is out.
Thanks for heads up about not to all uninstall it. I've just been doing upgrades with no wipe and it still works. Stock --> Prime 1.6 --> Prime 1.7.
Just saw this thread but hadn't tried my swype after 3.2 update yet. Just gave it whirl. Got an error message that said I had a screen size not compatible with installed version and I should contact Swype. After that it seems to work fine.
As Swype have decided to wait to fix this until their next release (I can see their point, but it means I am without a critical part of my EeePad) I have installed SlideIT Soft Keyboard instead, so far I can't see any reason to go back to Swype, their loss.
Swype is my favorite ok my phone but for the 10" tablet I love thumb keyboard

Is there a way to resize the keyboard in "SlideIT Soft Keyboard" like swype to make it smaller and move it to the lower right? I uninstalled swype assuming it will works after I run swype installer, but it didn't.
I am still getting the screen size issues with this. Has anyone had success?

Yes. I wouldn't have posted it if I wasn't successful in installing it and running it on my transformer. You just get the screen size warning pop up once after install. Just click OK and then you're good to go.
From the swype forums, they say they should have
An update that will fix the issues with 3.2. It sounded like they were holding off because they were planning an update to be released around that time before the issues with 3.2
Hang tight for an update from swype very shortly

Is this a port of the original JB keyboard or is it the same as your ICS one with a skin on top?
From the picture above, it appears to be almost the same as the ICS, so what is the difference? eep2378 in another thread says that the main difference between ICS & JB his the prediction. Is that in here too?
Thanks

I have uploaded it to the market and this is the link. This may take some time until it will show up in the market.
I have also attached the file to the post.
Beansoft did a similar release to the Play store, but reported these known issues:
* User dictionary doesn't work on ICS (adding words will cause a fc)
* Only English, German, French, Spanish, Portugese (Brazil) and Russian supported

I started typing and it gives predictions almost when i finished the word. It also won't predict what could be my next word until I type most of the word. Not sure if it is expected to work this way.

Nice idea and i'd love to see it (specially prediction) working. But doesn't work on my N1 with AOSP 4.0.4 -> fc -> uninstalled.
Downloading now!!
Have been a loyal user of your ICS keyboard~ Would be great if you can add the same tweaks (e.g. long press enter to get smiley selections) to the JB keyboard as well.
Is this possible, I can't find it anywhere.
It is a nice feature, but try backspacing inside of google and you can't delete the word cause it just keeps changing it. Kind of funny actually.
I would just like to turn it off.
Unfortunately it's a known bug with some Google services / search bar. You need to swipe energetically from the right side of your keyboard towards the centre to make the whole word disappear, but that's just a workaround, of course.
And SwiftKey is all about prediction, so unfortunately it's hard to get rid of it completely, but I'm not sure this would help. Disabling all languages makes it worse in predicting, but it still tries ;> probably based on custom dict or its own mechanism.
See if changing the (smart) space behaviour changes anything (it probably won't).

I've included a few of my thoughts on keyboards in the apps thread and there's an ongoing discussion on these here.
Awesome, thanks!
Am I doing something wrong here? I am trying to use the Samsung Keyboard with spell check turned on. It seems like it does not correct even the simplest of mistakes as other keyboard apps do.
For instance, if I type "thee dogg", it does not correct it. Those are not words in English. Why doesn't it correct to "the dog"? Instead of correcting these obvious misspellings, it just adds the misspelled words to My Word List. Why the heck would anyone want that? I'm lost on the logic here.
Any help is appreciated.

Yes, it is in English. I can just use Thumb Keyboard which has decent correction but I would prefer to try the Samsung one due to the extra features. Just odd that it would choose to add misspelled words to your word list rather than fix them. Head-scratcher. I'm looking for a setting that changes this behavior but cannot find one.
Samsung seems to do a number of things software wise that you sort of wonder how it ever made it out of committee. They add so many cool features but then totally whiff on some of the obvious stuff.

I've never been a fan of swype, probably because I can blaze with thumb typing if I have a decent spellcheck. Don't even have to look at the keyboard.
I think it is a jellybean problem, it worket fine for me on ics, it doesn't work on my s3 also after jellybean update, I tried it now but it doesn't add wrong words to the dictionary on s3 , but on note it does!
Sent from my GT-N8000 using xda app-developers app
I've had a lot of issue with the default keyboard. I have it set to predictive and I have Continuous typing active so it works like Swype but it's choice of words is sometime ludicrous. Even when I swipe slowly to each character it will often (25% of the time) give me a word that starts with a letter at the opposite end of the keyboard from where my swipe started.
I have started using the handwritten input for most things as it seems to work so much better than the actual keyboard.
As long as it has taken Samsung to roll out this JB OTA it is surprising the keyboard is so buggy. I reserve the right to totally be doing something wrong but I can't tell what it is.
